No product leaves our premises before passing our strict quality control, including not only checks on finish quality but equally important on functionality. We believe in superior after sales support. Should anything go wrong with your product, be assured that our nationwide network of fully trained service technicians are there to help.

Size of your kitchen If you have a small or extremely large kitchen, make sure your kitchen sink matches. If you have a large sink in a small space, the human eye will head directly to the sink instead of seeing the kitchen as a whole. Or if you have a large kitchen and you place a small sink in that space you will achieve the same result. Design of your kitchen From a country theme kitchen or a modern kitchen, the sink can influence the overall look of the kitchen. Colours also play an important factor in the overall cohesive design you are wanting to achieve. Going with a black and white theme, and by using a black or white sink reinforces the look. If you have a lot of stainless steel appliances that are forefront and make a statement in your kitchen, a stainless sink is more appropriate. Benchtop material Solid Surface Solid surface benchtops are the most versatile option for mounting your sink and is the preferred option for under mounting (where the sink is fixed under the benchtop). Laminate If you have chosen a laminate benchtop and wish to under mount we recommend asking your fabricator for an Ikon sink collar as most fabricators will now refuse to under mount sinks into laminate (as laminate is extremely thin) and if they do, they don’t tend to offer a warranty. These collars enable the sink to be mounted below the laminate surface, providing a smooth transition between sink and benchtop. The resulting finish adds a streamlined, contemporary appearance to your work surfaces. Stainless Steel If you have chosen a stainless steel benchtop then we recommend any handmade sink as they are 1.2mm thick (stainless fabricators prefer thicker material). This gives the appearance of your sink and benchtop as one complete unit, although most of our range (except Dakota) can be welded.

Dimensions of your cabinet size If you only have a 60cm cabinet under your sink then you are limited to a single bowl or single bowl and drainer. It is very difficult to put a double sink into that space. It is important you discuss this with your kitchen designer to make sure that once designed this does not affect your choice of sink, especially if you are looking at two bowls in your sink.

Things to consider when choosing a sink:

How you currently use your sink Changing the layout of your existing sink will require a behaviour change while you work in the kitchen. If you are used to a double bowl and you then go to a single bowl, without a waste disposal then it could be slightly frustrating for you, so make sure that extra thought is given if reducing in size or quantity. Spend some time with your kitchen designer to discuss the kitchen sink. People spend thousands of dollars and hours researching their benchtop but spend very little time discussing and researching the kitchen sink yet we spend just as much time, if not more, at our sink than we do working on our benchtop.

OTHER CONSIDERATIONS Top, flush or under mount? TOP MOUNT

FLUSH MOUNT

UNDER MOUNT

Top mount sinks are installed from above into a pre-prepared hole in your benchtop.

Flush mount sinks feature a single thickness edge allowing it to sit flush against the benchtop material.

Under mount sinks are installed underneath the worksurface so a solid surface worktop, such as granite or wood, is recommended. They are not generally compatible with laminate.

Rolled, bevelled or laser/integrated edge?

ROLLED EDGE

Some of our Reginox sinks give you the option of either a rolled (R) or laser (L) edge. When selecting a top mount sink, a rolled edge gives a traditional look and lifts the sink slightly higher off the benchtop, while a laser edge gives a seamless, flatter profile.

Which cabinet size? It is very important to know your cabinet size before deciding on a sink as it will impact the size and style. Start with the cabinet size and deduct 36mm for the sides (it comes in different sizes by 12,16 or 18mm board but 36mm is a figure that generally you are safe with). If you have a 600mm cabinet, deduct 38mm and you’re left with 562mm of useable space. When choosing a sink to undermount take the overall length of the sink, however when top mounting you can just use the measurements of the actual bowl(s). It is always ideal to allow some room either side of the sink for the electrician to equipotently bond your sink or the plumber to plumb it, working in a cabinet where the sink is at capacity and leaves little room on either side can come with its own set of issues. NOTE: if you choose a reversable sink and are top mounting it, ensure you also allow for the overflow (positioned at the side of the sink). Pressed or handmade? Pressed bowls are made from drawing the bowls shape out of a sheet of stainless steel and pressing it into a model to get it’s shape, while handmade (or fabricated) bowls are made by folding their shape and welding it’s sides. Sinks can be manufactured from different thickness stainless steel, generally the thicker the steel, the more expensive the sink becomes. Most Ikon sinks either come in 1.0mm or 1.2mm high grade 304 stainless steel. 1.2mm thick stainless steel sinks are suitable for both commercial and residential use. Which corner radius?

When we refer to a sink being left (L) or right (R) we are specifically referring to the main (largest) bowl on the sink. This has no bearing on the drainer (when applicable).

Essentially, the larger the radius, the rounder the corner. Most of our line drawings refer to the internal (inside) corner radius but you will occasionally also see the external (outside) radius corner mentioned. A ‘radius 10’ corner is ideal as you can fit your fingers down into the corners for cleaning. A tighter radius corner then ‘radius 10’ will require more effort.

DISTRIBUTED BY

CHOOSE THE RIGHT VENTILATION By that we mean that windows, ceilings, cooking on island unit or wall unit, and the position of your kitchen in relation to your home all contribute to what rangehood options you have available to you. This is where a kitchen designer’s experience is invaluable and will help with your options prior to design. One of the main considerations is what option is more effective and less noisy. In our experience remote motor options are always the quietest because the motor is positioned somewhere other than where it is extracting, so reduces the noise of the motor. Traditionally canopy hoods have always been the noisiest because the motor is positioned at head level so will be louder. We find that a rangehood with only three speeds is generally speaking nosier as the extraction goes up in larger increments meaning it is all or nothing. If you intend to go with a traditional canopy or island rangehood then look for something with more speed levels to combat the motor being at head height level or opt for the ones that offer remote motor options.

DUCTING

Another important consideration is the ducting of your rangehood which is unfortunately often an afterthought. Builders tend to put in flexible ducting which has a significant impact on the flow and noise of a rangehood, especially if it is more of a technical design. We are now seeing the kitchen industry taking particular care when planning kitchens making sure to discuss ducting with the homeowner at the design stage. Not many people know that you can achieve an extra 10-15% increase in flow and decrease in noise by using the right ducting for your rangehood. There are companies out there who specialise in just the installation of rangehoods and install rigid ducting to achieve this.

EXTRACTION RATE

We have also seen consumers get smarter at interpreting what is marketing spin and specifications. Years ago everyone just looked at extraction rates of rangehoods and compared extraction rates only. Now people are asking whether these are gross figures or net extraction figures. Gross means what the motor is capable of extracting but not necessary what the rangehood extracts once it is installed. Whereby others market it as net rate, meaning what the rangehood can extract with the motor in it.

AIRFLOW POWER

The airflow power required normally depends on the size of kitchen and type of cooking. The correct airflow for your specific kitchen can be easily worked out.

Simply multiply the volume of the kitchen by ten and you will obtain the ideal airflow for that room. For example, for a kitchen of 3m x 4m with a height of 2.7m: (3 x 4 x 2.7) x 10 = 324. In this case, any Ikon cooker hood with airflow equal to our superior to 324 m3/h will therefore guarantee the complete and efficient ventilation of the room. For a large family, for those who love cooking as an art, or where a group of friends are gathered together in a spacious kitchen to experiment with some exotic recipes, the hood capacity should be over 500 m3/h. Effective capture of cooking fumes also depends on the correct use of the product, where the product is mounted, what you are cooking and how and how the rangehood is ducted.

TYPES OF DUCTING – DUCTED VS. RECIRCULATED

Ducting a rangehood can be either ducted through the eaves, wall or roof. The ducted version will carry the steam, vapours and oils to the outside vent and remove them from the kitchen, whereas the recirculated version captures the air, purifies it through charcoal filters and sends it back into the kitchen environment. Where possible we always recommend a rangehood is ducted as opposed to recirculated, however sometimes this is not possible. To duct a rangehood is always more expensive to begin with but nothing is required after the installation. However, with the recirculated versions, you do need to replace filters on a regular basis which becomes an ongoing cost and inconvenience to replace.

The layout of your kitchen will determine whether your rangehood can be mounted on a wall, incorporated into your cabinets, suspended from the ceiling or installed into your bench top.

The ducted version must be connected to the outside through ducting that carries all the captured air from the house. This requires piping with a sufficiently large diameter at least 125mm (though 150mm is preferred). The piping must also not be too long or tortuous, otherwise the aerodynamic resistance of the passage can cause “power loss”, that is cubic metres of lost airflow. Piping is not required for the recirculated version, since the captured air is purified through the rangehood’s active carbon filters and then returned to the kitchen environment. In this version it is extremely important to observe correct maintenance of the odour filters, and to replace them when necessary.

REMOTE MOTOR TO MINIMISE NOISE

The only way to reduce the noise on your rangehood is to have a remote motor. Some of the noise of a rangehood comes from the motor located just inside your rangehood. You will always have some noise in a rangehood, which would be the actual air movement through the vents provided to extract, but it is significantly reduced with a remote motor. The higher the extraction, the noisier your rangehood will be unless you remove the motor from its rangehood body and place it somewhere else in the house. Note, remote motors are brand specific. Ventilation

DOWNDRAFT EXTRACTORS Downdraft extractors are a perfect solution for kitchen layouts where you can’t duct up. Generally, these require a lot of room in the cabinetry below the unit for the motor unless purchasing a remote motor option. Also ideal for those who have windows behind their cooking space.

Downdrafts are often perceived as less effective which is not the case as it depends entirely on where the downdraft is located in relation to the cooking. The most effective rangehoods on the market, in our opinion, are the ones where the downdraft is positioned in the middle of the cooking area as it has to work less to extract fumes being positioned right at the source. In comparison, a canopy rangehood or ceiling rangehood have to work a lot harder to extract steam and cooking vapours in which case most people increase speed which in return increases the noise.

With a touch of a button, the extractor can be raised out of the benchtop when needed and provides a powerful extraction solution while creating a modern and uncluttered look.

Installing your rangehood straight into your kitchen ceiling is a growing trend. With minimalism in mind, these type of rangehoods provide effective extraction power through targeted air extraction while taking up no additional kitchen space. Some models can be used with a remote motor to minimise noise. Ceiling rangehoods are ideal for kitchen islands. IKOLOR FAQ’S What products am I able to get iKolor-ed? iKolor can be applied to many different Ikon products currently. Taps, Ikon Appliances (ovens, dishwashers, rangehoods, etc.), Handles, Wastes, Sink Accessories, Overflows and Roller Mats.

Only Ikon products can be iKolor-ed currently due to demand and warranty being potentially compromised if we were to iKolor another companies’ product (as we often have to dismantle them to put the item through the iKolor process. However, if you wish for something else to be iKolor-ed that is not an Ikon product and does not involve moving parts then Ikon can provide you a quotation (shower trays, stair rails) etc.

How do I clean an iKolor-ed product and what cleaning products can I use? A)

iKolor products should only be washed with soapy water, we recommend Sunlight or Palmolive dishwashing liquid. DO NOT USE any eco cleaning products or any cleaning products with citric acid or limonene as they can damaged the iKolor finish (including handwashing liquid as some of these contain these products in the ingredient’s).

DO NOT USE stainless-steel cleaners, bleaches, harsh abrasives, oven cleaners or other chemicals especially containing chlorine (only sunlight liquid and Palmolive products)

Immediately clean away any traces of fruit juice, damp salt, vinegar, mustard, pickles and mayonnaise

How long can my order take to be iKolor-ed? A)

iKoloring can take 7 to 12 days to complete the process. To iKolor a product we put it through multiple processes that cannot be rushed. We developed iKolor to last.

What must you be careful of when with an iKolor-ed product? A)

Although iKolor is built to be long lasting and tough it is not indestructible, collisions with hard objects, using rough cleaning items like a steelo or using improper cleaning products or items have a possibility of damaging your iKolor finish and voiding the warranty

Are there some restrictions on iKolor? A)

Yes, when purchasing wastes, these are only designed to fit in Ikon products only. If wastes are ordered for non Ikon products, then these will not be covered under warranty.

Does iKolor colour stainless all the way through? A)

It is worth noting that iKolor on stainless steel does not penetrate all the way through the stainless steel. Some consumers can think that the colour has penetrated all the way through the stainless steel, however you cannot get stainless steel products that have the colour all the way through them. How is iKolor different to PVD? A)

   

Why is limonene so damaging to iKolor and other products found in the kitchen? A)

Limonene is an industrial paint stripper in a concentrated form, because of this even in light concentrations it could remove iKolor and remove the polymer binder in engineered benchtops and eco granite sinks. The reason it is so popular in many cleaning products is because it comes from a natural source (citrus rind/skin). This means that the “eco cleaner” can be a natural product yet still be very powerful. Inspirational sinks and appliances

A PVD product has a very thin surface coating of colour. PVD colouring is achieved by exposing stainless steel to different gasses at high temperatures creating a thin oxide layer in the colour desired. IKolor is a coating that is many times thicker than an oxide coating which bonds to the stainless steel, making it much more resistant to scratches and scrapes.

Reminder – Instant hot water dispensers are not recommend with any iKolor products found in the sink, due to the high temperature and concentrated area it hits.

TERMS OF TRADE & GENERAL WARRANTIES

GENERAL INFORMATION: Supply of goods is subject to Ikon® Commercial Ltd terms of trade. Current Terms of Trade are available from the website or from contacting Ikon.

Allow 2-3 working days for delivery outside of central Auckland and Hamilton. Please ensure all product is checked before signature is given to the courier. To submit a claim, please ensure you notify us within 24 hours of receipt of product.

All Kleenmaid, PITT and Flow-Ins products require payment before dispatch. For hassle free warranty on all appliances please supply customers name, phone number, address and email address with these orders.

RETURNS POLICY: All returns must be approved by customer services. Please contact us on 0800 83 83 84 for us to issue a RA number for return of the product.

While every effort is made to check our products we recommend all products, measurements and colour matches be checked against the actual product to be installed.

Please provide serial number of product which is located on the outside of the box or on the product. Product returned without an RA number will not be accepted for credit and returned at your cost.

Colour swatches are used as a guide only and we will not be responsible for any colour changes from one batch to another. Please ensure your customer is happy before installing.

There will be no returns for PITT, Kleenmaid, iKolor and Ikon appliances unless special circumstances apply. In these cases we will consider a return and a freight charge will apply on top of a restocking fee.

Distributors, agents and retailers have no authority to bind Ikon to any decision regarding supply or warranty claim nor any products fitness for particular use. Title of goods will remain with Ikon® Commercial until paid for in full.

There will be no returns for iKolor as iKolor is a custom made product so once order has been placed in manufacture this order cannot be cancelled or returned.

FREIGHT POLICY: All products except accessories are shipped free of charge to anywhere in New Zealand.

No returns will be accepted after 3 months from order date. Any product modified for the customer, including iKolor cannot be returned.

Warranty starts from the date in which the product is invoiced. A copy of the invoice is required before warranty is undertaken. If you have a warranty enquiry for our products, contact us directly on 0800 83 83 84, for greater efficiency and accuracy. If we can not find the invoice through our system, we may contact you to request it.

For New Zealand customers: Please remember that the warranties on offer from Ikon are offered to you, the consumer, as a “manufacturers warranty”. You may still have rights or remedies under the Consumer Guarantees Act that are not defined in our “standard warranties”. Nothing in our warranty documentation or any other document can remove any rights you have under the CGA.

GENERAL WARRANTY INFORMATION CONT

Subject to the below mentioned exclusion and conditions, the obligations of Ikon under this warranty shall be limited to either of the following (at Ikon’s sole option): 1. To without charge repair or replace the defective Product(or the defective parts there of) and to reinstall the repaired or replaced product ( or to pay reasonable costs of installation): or 2. To refund the Consumer the original purchase price for the defective products: AND such repair, replacement or refund shall constitute fulfilment of all of Ikon’s obligations under this warranty. To the extent permitted by law Ikon will not whether by virtue of this warranty or otherwise be liable for and hereby disclaim any liability for any incidental, economic or consequential loss, expenditure or damage, directly or indirectly suffered by the Consumer or any other person in respect to any defect in the Product. This warranty does not apply if: 1. The Product has been installed, used or cared for in any improper manner or otherwise contrary to any specifications, instructions or recommendations contained in any brochure or materials supplied on the original purchase of the product. 2. Any attempt is made to repair or modify the product in any way by any person without written authority of Ikon. 3. Installation of the Product has occurred without regard to the installation instruction provided and full consideration is given to all regulatory codes covering electrical, gas and plumbing installations. 4. That this warranty does not extend to: a) light globes and filters of any ages on rangehoods; b) Transportation or travelling costs involved in the repair when the product is installed outside in rural areas. c) damage to the ceramic glass caused by liquid or solid spillover, lack of maintenance or impact; d) damage to surface coatings caused by cleaning or maintenance using products not recommended by the owners handbook;

f) The Product is not in the possession of the original Consumer; g) The Product has been dismantled, repaired or serviced by other than an authorised Ikon service person. 5. All stainless steel sinks must be bonded to the general mass of earth. In situations where it is not required for electrical compliance it must be done for the purpose of equipotential bonding. 6. A claim under this warranty is not notified in writing to Ikon within a reasonable period after the defect in the Product would have become apparent to a reasonable person. If a service call is required and it is not a result of either faulty materials or workmanship, then Ikon or the service agent will charge the customer directly for the service call out. All warranties must go through the approved warranty process. No warranty claims may be expressed or implied by any party other than the warranty claims. Any claim under this warranty must be made in writing to Ikon (info@ikon.nz) and must be supported by reasonable evidence of the date of original purchase of the Product and suspected defects in the Product must be made available for inspection by Ikon or it’s authorised representatives. Nothing in this Product warranty shall override or negative any statutory right or remedy that may be available to the Consumer under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, except where the Consumer has acquired Product for the purposes of business or commercial use. Official decisions will always be made in writing once a claim is fully investigated. Please refer to our website for latest updates and warranty conditions. 8. All Ikon product dispatch will have manuals and installation instructions installed, please make sure these are read and retained. If these are missing from your product please contact your supplier/ installer or download these from our website.
