Truly a temple to wellbeing, where body, mind and spirit can find a new balance, the Bulgari Spa recreates the atmosphere and experience of the ancient Roman baths. The heart of this 7500 square metre oasis of peace is the large natatio, a 20-metre pool decorated with glistening mosaics by Bisazza, reminiscent of the motifs seen in the celebrated Baths of Caracalla - which are also a source of inspiration for Bulgari's Divas Dream collection.

NUMEROUS INNOVATIONS AT THE CANNES YACHTING FESTIVAL 2023 ~Europe's largest in-water boat show.
The 55,000 visitors to the quays of the Vieux Port and Port Canto discovered numerous innovations, whether in water or on land, which serve developing the sea economy and protecting the maritime space. In the idyllic setting of the French Riviera, 705 5- to 50-metre boats (motor, sailing, monohull or multihull), including 130 world premieres, were presented by the largest French and international boat builders. Alongside them, the latest equipment and accessories, and service companies (architects/ designers, interior fittings, institutions, marinas, etc.) exhibited on the outdoor quays and in the Palais des Festivals. As the season’s first international boat show, the Cannes Yachting Festival teams are in the front line to see the growing efforts various companies in the marine industry are making to reduce their carbon footprint. Boat builders love the sea and in turn are very concerned about preserving the marine ecosystem and nature in the broadest sense of the term. Equipment and engine manufacturers also join them to find solutions for energy efficiency and savings. By following the « Green Route » which clearly identifies the products and initiatives that are moving in this direction, visitors were able to see the evolution that is underway and admire technological gems using “greener” propulsions: propeller and/or engine design to reduce energy consumption, particle-scrubber filter solutions, rotorsails or turbo-sails, 100% electric or hybrid thermalelectric propulsion, LNG or bio-LNG, Efuels, etc.

creators of the Torpedo 42, exquisite, bespoke hand-crafted day cruisers.
Hull #21, “Babebi” was delivered to a home port of Beaulieu in late June and is J Craft’s first ever Torpedo featuring a metallic-coloured hull. Babebi is a Torpedo "RS" which comes with two Volvo Penta IPS 650s that will take it to a top speed of 47 knots. The interior is two-tone with yellow brass and off-white as well as the beautiful diamond stitching. The new Torpedo comes with extra lithium batteries allowing for a full day on the water, engines off, with music, charging, fridges, air conditioning and seakeeper on without the need to use the generator making it extra quiet and comfortable without the loss of any amenities. Taking over 9,000 man-hours to build, the Torpedo can reach speeds in excess of 50 mph and offers exceptional maneuverability. Its hull shape, refined over two dozen builds, delivers excellent stability and performance in any sea state, as well as an impressive 280-nm range. The convertible open cockpit features two sundecks, comfortably accommodating up to 10 adults for day cruises. The spacious cabin sleeps up to 4 guests in luxurious style.

Against the cool background tones of the living room, warmth is infused with buttery, oversized India Mahdavi couches that accompany Clara Porsetinspired, star-gazing caned chairs and a grand wood-burning fireplace. On the mantle, a solid spun-bronze vase by Michael Verheyden is yet another element of richness and tactility, along with the photography books, pottery, and twigs styled upon a textured-steel coffee table by Lukas Friedrich.

In the kitchen, dramatically veined marble wraps the entire back wall, including the cooker hood, and forms the counters and island top. Custom black-steel cabinets with ribbed glass doors provide a visual tie to a pair of Pelle pendant lamps while juxtaposing linen slip-covered chairs, and a French antique vessel paired with contemporary brass candle holders. Dinners are held around a dark walnut table accompanied by vintage Molteni ‘Monk’ chairs, beneath a conical matte white and bronze lamp by Allied Maker. Easy finesse continues in the bedrooms, where the varied textures of rattan headboards, hand-knotted rugs, and cashmere window shades contrast crisp white bed linens.

For the four-bedroom property in East Hampton, Keck used her discerning eye to coalesce a multifaceted art collection with decadent furnishings and sumptuous finishes —achieving comfort and an air of old-world luxury, but with a fresh, contemporary take. As with many of the studio’s projects, artwork takes center stage throughout the residence. Abstract sculpture, oil paintings, and vintage photographs are unexpectedly brought together to create moments of surprise and intrigue. From Andrea Hornick’s reinterpreted Renaissance painting infused with animal spirit guides to Lori Nix and Kathleen Gerber’s surreal archival pigment prints of model fish, the works are all curiously playful, captivating, and imaginative.

A dramatic departure from the airy spaces upstairs, the atmosphere changes when descending to the basement, where a bold shade of deep green was chosen for the walls, ceilings, and drapes across an entertainment lair. “We wanted to create a mood of a bygone-era social club, with a cocoon-like enveloping feeling of warmth and decadence, but done in a fresh way,” said Keck.“The green feels rich, deep, and luscious. It’s the color of forests but also gems, fancy liquor bottles, and game tables.” A cinema, billiard and poker tables, a bar, and a gym can all be found in this subterranean den, which is brightened with natural oak flooring and dashes of ochre upholstery. Although starkly different in spirit, the two distinct areas of the home are united through Keck’s carefully executed combinations of the refined with the tactile warm and sensory.

Pauline Karpidas is one of the art world’s most highly sophisticated and international collectors, with an appreciation of art rooted to her core. Following in the footsteps of Peggy Guggenheim and Dominique de Menil before her, Pauline has surrounded herself with artists and built an extraordinary collection through friendship and collaboration. This Autumn, Sotheby’s will be offering works from Pauline’s magical home on the Greek island of Hydra. Initially intended as a sanctuary for her family’s summers, Pauline transformed the mansion into a temple to art and design. Through Pauline’s influence, Hydra – an island that has long attracted creatives – became an unparalleled getaway for artists, collectors and curators, who were hosted there for over two decades of unforgettable art-filled weekends. The Evening Auction, taking place in Paris on 30 October, will offer some 40 lots, followed by a Day Sale of around 230 lots. The offering encapsulates the harmonious coexistence of design and contemporary art within Pauline’s world, with a particular focus on the sculpture that was displayed throughout the house and its gardens. Highlights will be exhibited in New York, London and Paris. 055

Pauline Karpidas was born and raised in Manchester, and as a young woman attended secretarial college. In the early 1970s, she moved to Athens and set up a boutique. It was here in Athens that she met and fell in love with her husband-to-be Constantinos Karpidas, with whom she discovered what was to become a lifelong passion for art. Their collecting journey began with the expert guidance of the legendary gallerist Alexander Iolas, known by most as the man who discovered Andy Warhol. It is often noted by her friends that anyone who meets Pauline is won over by her personality, and testament to this character, when Pauline met Iolas in 1974 he came out of retirement in order to help her build her collection. Pauline responded to this in kind by throwing herself in headfirst, and as a collector and patron has ceaselessly honed her craft. The island of Hydra is home to a remarkable collection of old mansions, among which Pauline’s home, perched above the path to Kamini beach, is an undisputed jewel: the majestic but welcoming oldstone building looking straight out onto the bright turquoise of the Aegean Sea. A historical monument known as the Boudouris Mansion, named for the noble Greek family that built it, the building and its Greek Orthodox chapel were lovingly restored by Pauline – who, with her inimitable eye and sense of style, preserved its character whilst creating the perfect space for her collection.

Through collaborations with interior designer Jacques Grange and gallerist David Gill, and having championed the furniture designs of Mattia Bonetti, André Dubreuil, and Claude and François-Xavier Lalanne, Pauline seamlessly brought together the worlds of high art and functional living in Hydra. Represented for many years by Alexander Iolas and favoured by Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé, Claude and François-Xavier Lalanne are today synonymous with some of the finest interiors – and collectors – of our times. Pauline first met the Lalannes at their home in Ury, outside of Paris, in 1978 – becoming one of their very first collectors before they skyrocketed to fame. In a perfect example of the symbiotic relationship that can exist between the collector and the artist, Pauline commissioned the Lalannes to create bespoke pieces that make up a very personal collection. Alongside Les Lalanne, pieces by the Swiss designer Mattia Bonetti and his partner Elizabeth Garouste similarly occupy every room.Whimsical and surreal, Bonetti’s neo-baroque style blurs the boundaries between high art and design; luxurious yet traditionalmaterials such as patinated bronze, marble, gilded rock crystal and glass are met by pioneering materials and craftsmanship from modern day acrylics through to 3D printing. Each piece is unique and individual. French designer André Dubreuil also occupies a central place in the Karpidas Collection. Known for his hand-made wrought iron pieces inspired by classical East Asian and French antiques, Dubreuil became a driving force in the field of contemporary furniture during the late 1980s; with pieces such as his Spine Chair becoming an instant design classic for its elegant yet dramatic stance against Minimalism. In Hydra, ornamental lighting and furniture by Dubreuil complements both the contemporary artworks and historic setting.
