I LASVIT - lighthouse of glass making I Alain Cartier in conversation with I. Lee I Artur Rucinski in conversation with J. Suric.

I have always been passionate about light. The sun, the light from nature that enters our interior space, the light that beautifully illuminates its surroundings, but most importantly the inner light that lives inside of us to illuminate our journey. When we radiate light from within we are like a magnet that attracts others to us and expands so we all become more. As we naturally allow our inner light to shine brightly, people are attracted to the positivity that flows from us. People are naturally drawn to light, love and peace. Others desire for their world to be bright, positive and peaceful as well. When our light shines effortlessly and joy wells up from deep within, it often brightens the paths of others that we may never even know about. Our light extends out to the darkness, causing it to disappear and often, healing the hurt and anxiety that can be left behind. There is no way to know how far our light will travel or how many people will be positively impacted because of it. That

ART DE VIVRE: I Ile Maison HOME - invitation

is why we must decide within ourselves to stand bright and tall, illuminating the paths of those around us, helping and healing where we can. In this issue of Ile Maison Magazine, we focus on Light and our homes as a Lighthouse to others. In times when we gather at home more let’s make our home a lighthouse for others. Let’s be a beacon of hope, love and joy for those who enter our doors. Let’s allow positivity and brightness to flow freely as we smile, laugh and encourage those around us. Let’s shine and brighten the way for one another in this wonderful journey of life. Now, more than ever, we need to allow our inner light, our inner strength to be bold and beautiful as it shines!

ART THERAPY

- a light installation which draws figures in the sand in Abu Dhabi’s Burjeel Medical City. The installation is placed in Burjeel Medical City, a hospital in Abu Dhabi which aspires to become the most prominent medical facility in the whole region. Burjeel is also known for its motto Art of Healing, and LASVIT’s installation is supposed to be a form of therapy for the clients of this luxurious hospital, and that is also why it is called Art Therapy. “All in all, we worked on the Art Therapy project for Abu Dhabi’s Burjeel Medical City hospital for two years – that’s from the initial design up to the final installation. It was finished at the end of last year, and it is our very first installation which is able to draw. Looking at this giant jewel which draws figures in the sand is supposed to give the visitors a sense of peace and safety. The installation has a therapeutic effect,” says Leon Jakimič, owner and president of LASVIT. The installation, which is altogether 16 meters tall, draws the visitors’ attention with its beauty and its kinetic functions. The installation is reminiscent of a stylus fastened to three engines which make the whole installation move. The piece hangs above 50 m2 of sand, and it uses its sharp point to draw into the sand below. The project’s alchemical nature is clearly seen in the special type of sand which creates a play of light and shadow and in the figures which the pendulum draws. LASVIT is famous not only for its design but also presents the craft of Czech crystal worldwide, and Art Therapy is no exception. The installation uses 300 crystal elements, and every single glass component of Art Therapy has its own light source, so the entire piece, as well as the drawing below, are lighted. The whole installation weighs close to 620 kg.

NEVERENDING GLORY OF FAMOUS HALLS Neverending Glory Collection brings beautiful old classical chandeliers to a contemporary form and into modern homes.

The idea of Neverending Glory collection came to us when we realized how many amazing old crystal chandeliers there are, and that it would be beautiful to bring them to a contemporary form and into modern homes, says designer Henry Wielgus. The designers Jan Plechač and Henry Wielgus sketched the shape of the chandeliers by rotating the silhouette around its own axis. In the individual silhouettes, it is possible to recognize iconic chandeliers from five of the world’s most eminent concert halls and theaters; La Scala in Milan, Palais Garnier Metropolitan

ARTUR RUCINSKI

- one of the most desired baritone opera singers in the world. In conversation with Justyna Suric on opera and pleasures in life.

Artur Ruciński, 44, one of the most desired baritone opera singers in the world, famous for Verdi interpretation, found his oasis in the depth of the Kampinos Forest, near Warsaw, Poland. He escapes from a busy life of an opera star to this secluded area at the suburbs and truly enjoys staying at home.

Gardening and reading books may be his favorite pleasures but the most important is cherishing time with the family, wife Ola Troczyńska, also a musician and a singer, and their two young sons.

My goal is always to show the beauty of the opera and I remain focused on that.

La Traviata, Teatro Real, Madrid Which opera roles make you the happiest today? I am still the most comfortable in Italian singing style of bel canto. Verdi repertoire remains my forte. I know that there are many characters in Verdi’s operas for me yet to sing - these heavier, title roles, which would perfectly show colors and depth of my voice. I do not mind reaching out for roles written by Mozart and Tchaikovsky. These are on a bit lighter side and help to maintain vocal health. How do you maintain vocal health? The opera singer voice requires quite serious maintenance to sound vibrant and fresh for a long time . Mozart in this case is very useful while his music requires lots of discipline from a signer. One cannot just sign as desires. What was written by the composer must be sang. I just need to go back sometimes to Mozart myself, to the base, tradition and discipline. Then I can easily go back again to bel canto and Verdi. The voice of a singer requires constant care and training. Especially now when we are not present on the stage as often as before. I constantly work on new roles, prepare myself for the future. I also teach young singers, try to help them, boost their confidence and give them hope for the future, especially now, during pandemic. How do you work on your well-being? How do you take care of your physical form? We, singers are like athletes a lot of physical and mental strength. Imagine that your voice has to resonate in the venue with thousands in the audience. That is why to have the voice trained on a regular basis is a must. It is a living instrument.

In addition to the health of your voice, how you maintain physical and mental strength? I am very active. My two sons make sure that I move. I exercise and try to eat healthy foods, but I have to admit, I was awarded with good genes. We spend lots of time outside as a family. We bike a lot and play tennis. I even travel with the tennis racket and play with my friends met during my opera travels. Today opera singers look good and fit. Does it go with the quality of singing? This is a kind of a new trend that many singers care very much about their looks and social media presence. Unfortunately, it does not have much to do with the quality of opera singing. The group of us, professional opera singers on the top who try to maintain and promote the highest level of opera singing, is not that large. This lack of professional

performers is also managers and opera theatre directors’ fault. They offer jobs to young and inexperienced singers, who look good but are not ready for certain operatic roles. Their stardom shines for so short. Rather than for looks, it should all be about awareness, training, making wise choices for the voice. So how did you know that opera singing will be good for you? Where did your inspirations come from? Music has been always present in my life since I was a child. My parents were working in famous Polish folk group called Mazowsze (established by Polish government to promote folk music and traditions). My parents danced, sang and traveled the world. Later on, they had their own folk groups and were busy teaching folk culture in the Polish schools.
