I talentuosi bartender internazionali, vincitori del concorso online The Mixing Star Lab 2014, sono stati i protagonisti del primo boot camp di Mixologia firmato Disaronno.

Giunti da tutto il mondo a Marsala in Sicilia, i bartender sono stati accolti dal Sig. Reina, Amministratore Delegato del Gruppo Illva Saronno che li ha invitati a vivere appieno i due giorni del boot camp in una cornice d’eccezione come le storiche Cantine Florio. Qui hanno avuto l’opportunità di arricchire il proprio bagaglio di conoscenze, in un programma di crescita professionale esclusivo e di scoprire i segreti per preparare nuovi e inaspettati cocktail con un approccio scientifico e innovativo.

The talented bartenders who won the online Mixing Star Lab 2014 competition – one each from 14 different countries – were the principal players at Disaronno’s first Mixology boot camp. Arriving in Marsala from across the globe, they were met by Augusto Reina, Illva Saronno Group CEO. In welcoming his guests to the storied Cantine Florio wine cellars and vineyards, he invited the bartenders to make the most of the wonderful two days ahead. Against this magnificent Sicilian backdrop, they had the opportunity to benefit from an exclusive professional growth program, delving deeper into the art of mixology and, thanks to a novel scientific approach, discovering the secrets behind the preparation of amazing new cocktails.

I bartender hanno incontrato la Dottoressa Rachel Edwards-Stuart, rinomata scienziata del gusto e del cibo che, con la sua masterclass, li ha coinvolti in una serie di degustazioni dove ha dimostrato che il gusto di ogni cocktail è strettamente collegato alla percezione e alla sensibilità individuale di chi lo beve. Come la stessa Dr.ssa Rachel Edwards-Stuart ha sottolineato: “Comprendere la scienza dei sapori è il cuore della grande Mixologia”. Un concetto che ha trasmesso con una serie di esempi pratici, suggerendo anche originali ed audaci abbinamenti per Disaronno.

2 July 2014 On this day the bartenders were introduced to Dr. Rachel Edwards-Stuart, a prominent food scientist who gave a master class on taste perception. Tasting after tasting, she explained how there is a close connection between the taste of every cocktail and the perception and sensibilities of the person drinking it. As Dr. Edwards-Stuart made clear: “An understanding of the science of flavour is the core of great mixology.” It’s a concept that she conveyed through a series of practical examples, along the way suggesting some daringly original ideas for enjoying Disaronno. What about in combination with mezcal liquor, rose blossom or spice bread? she had these special students of hers at once wonder and ponder…

Nel pomeriggio i bartender hanno poi continuato il loro viaggio nell’esplorazione dei sapori autentici mediterranei con una visita guidata delle cantine Florio e le antiche botti. In questo luogo magico e ricco di storia hanno potuto scoprire la tradizione del marsala e dei vini locali, anche attraverso un’esclusiva degustazione verticale delle etichette più pregiate Duca di Salaparuta e Florio che ha coinvolto tutti e cinque i sensi.

Then in the afternoon the bartenders proceeded on the exploratory journey into the world of authentic Mediterranean aromas with a guided visit to the Florio wine cellars and age-old barrels. In this magical abode steeped in tradition they were able to discover the history of marsala and other local wines, also through an extraordinary vertical tasting session – involving all five senses – of the finest Duca di Salaparuta and Florio labels.

3 July 2014 A once-in-a-lifetime encounter. The bartenders finally met Tony Conigliaro, international mixology star and charismatic figure, a charming, imaginative and knowledgeable man who shared some of his own precious tricks of the trade with the boot camp attendees. Conigliaro underscored the importance of ambiance and presentation in serving cocktails: “One secret to having your customers fully appreciate your creation is to build a story around it, give it an emotional context that involves all five senses, so making for a complete taste experience.”

From there he went on to mix his original Sicilian Sour, a special revisitation of a cocktail that he included in his book “Drinks”: it evokes the feel of a genuine Med vacation in sunny Sicily thanks to a delectable mix of sweet almond, lemon and apricot scents. After listening to the tips and probing the mysteries of two world-class pros, the bartenders (complete with Illva Saronno U.K. Brand Ambassador Rod Eslamie on the scene assisting) made an impressive showing of personal dedication, creativity and flair by offering their own Disaronno Sour Twists.

All in front of an international audience that in addition to Tony Conigliaro and Rachel Edwards-Stuart included wine & spirits journalists, brand ambassadors and 2013 Mixing Star winners.

Un incontro che non lascia indifferenti. Alcuni di loro lo avevano già incontrato in precedenza. Tony Conigliaro, star della mixologia internazionale, personaggio estroso, creativo e carismatico che ha messo a disposizione dei partecipanti al boot camp le sue conoscenze e abilità, svelando alcuni dei suoi segreti. Conigliaro ha sottolineato l’importanza dell’ambientazione e della presentazione di un cocktail: “Un segreto per far apprezzare fino in fondo la propria creazione ai clienti è quello di crearvi intorno una storia, un contesto emozionale, che riesca a coinvolgere tutti i sensi dando vita ad un’esperienza di gusto completa”. Ha dato poi un esempio tangibile delle sue grandi abilità e conoscenze con l’originale Sicilian Sour, una speciale rivisitazione di un cocktail che ha inserito nel suo libro “Drinks”, che evoca le sensazioni di un’autentica vacanza mediterranea in Sicilia, sulle dolci note di mandorle, limoni e albicocche. Dopo aver carpito i segreti dei due guru internazionali e ascoltato i loro consigli, i bartender, coadiuvati dal coinvolgente Rod Eslamieh, Brand Ambassador Illva Saronno UK, hanno dato prova della loro passione, dedizione e creatività realizzando i loro Disaronno Sour Twist davanti a una platea di giornalisti internazionali, Brand Ambassador, ai vincitori del 2013 e agli stessi Tony Conigliaro e Rachel Edwards-Stuart.

INAUGURATA LA TERRAZZA FLORIO A big kickoff for Terrazza Florio

Nei giorni del boot camp i partecipanti di The Mixing Star Lab hanno anche avuto l’opportunità di inaugurare l’esclusiva TERRAZZA FLORIO: una meravigliosa terrazza affacciata direttamente sul mare di Sicilia, dove godere di un panorama incantevole sorseggiando un fresco Disaronno Sour o uno dei pregiati vini Florio.

Un luogo dedicato agli amanti del vino, ma anche dell’arte e dell’architettura italiane, grazie all’attenta cura che si nota nell’arredamento, che valorizza in ogni dettaglio la struttura originale della cantina. Dominano il rosso e il nero, colori dalla forte personalità che evocano rispettivamente il vino marsalese e la lava del vulcano. A catturare l’attenzione sono una fontana che rilassa con il suono dell’acqua che cade, per un piacere visivo ed emotivo al tempo stesso e, i vasi artigianali di ceramica che la decorano creati ad hoc per l’occasione.

Un tributo alla storia della Sicilia e del Marsala Florio, opera dell’architetto Franco Marabelli.

During the two days of the boot camp the Mixing Star Lab participants also had the chance to inaugurate TERRAZZA FLORIO, a lovely terrace overlooking the enchanting Sicilian sea and as such a perfect spot for sipping a refreshing Disaronno Sour or savouring a superb Florio wine.

It is surely a place for wine lovers. Yet thanks to the exquisite decor exalting every aspect of the wine cellar’s original structure it is equally a place for connoisseurs of Italian art and architecture. The predominant colours are ever potent red and black, respectively calling forth Marsala wine and volcanic lava. Meanwhile, a bubbling water fountain with custom design ceramic vases at once captures attention and induces a state of visual/emotional relaxation. The work of architect Franco Marabelli, the terrace is a tribute to the history of both Sicily and Florio Marsala.

In occasione dell’annuale Global Marketing Meeting con focus su “Tradizione e Innovazione”, Illva Saronno ha ospitato tutti i suoi distributori internazionali a Saronno.

I distributori, che durante l’anno contribuiscono con il loro prezioso lavoro al successo dei diversi brand del gruppo in tutto il mondo, hanno visitato gli stabilimenti di Illva Saronno dove vengono prodotti e imbottigliati gli spirits e hanno avuto l’opportunità di scoprire la Real Aromi che produce estratti naturali da spezie e vegetali, oltre a selezionare gli aromi e gli ingredienti segreti che conferiscono un gusto unico e distintivo ai prodotti del Gruppo Illva Saronno.

Durante la visita, gli ospiti hanno anche potuto visitare il nuovo Innovation Center, appena inaugurato: un centro di ricerca e sviluppo unico nel suo genere, altamente all’avanguardia e in continua evoluzione. Già nel 1996 Illva Saronno è stata tra le prime aziende nell’ambito food ad attrezzarsi con strumentazioni all’avanguardia, a dimostrazione di una spinta innovatrice sempre presente nel Gruppo Illva Saronno.

Un luogo pionieristico nel concept e nelle dotazioni che, tra i suoi elementi cardine, ha lo studio della natura.

Illva Saronno distributors came to Saronno recently for the annual Global Marketing Meeting. The as-ever-fascinating topic on this occasion: Tradition & Innovation.

The distributors, who during the year make a valuable contribution to the worldwide success of the company’s various brands, visited the spirits distillation and bottling plants. They also had the chance to discover Real Aromi, the subsidiary that manufactures natural spice, herb and vegetable extracts – in addition to selecting the aromas and secret ingredients which give Illva Saronno products a unique and distinctive flavour.

While in town the guests had the opportunity to explore the freshly inaugurated Innovation Center. It’s a continuously evolving state-of-the-art research & development hub very much in a category of its own. Actually, as far back as 1996 Illva Saronno demonstrated the group’s unfailing trailblazer spirit by becoming one of the first food & beverage companies to invest in avant-garde technology.

As for the center, it’s a pioneering place on both conceptual and experimental levels which finds one of its cornerstones in the study of nature. Augusto Reina, CEO of Illva Saronno Holding, asserts: “Every day we work with the natural world. That takes top-notch professionalism. So in creating our center we made a point of equipping it with the latestgeneration analytical instrumentation. Coordina e gestisce con approcci e idee innovative le ricerche di tutto il gruppo Illva Saronno (liquori, gelato, vini, prodotti da forno, aromi ed estratti naturali) con l’obiettivo di implementare nuovi mercati e nuovi prodotti sfruttando le sinergie di gruppo.

Oggi questa volontà di guardare al futuro, per anticipare le tendenze e le richieste di un mercato in continua evoluzione, si traduce nella realizzazione dell’Innovation Center. A separate entity that operates independently of the rest of the group, the center deals with solving practical problems, optimizing resources, schedules and costs. Implementing innovative approaches and ideas, it coordinates and supervises research for all Illva Saronno business sectors (wines & spirits, ice cream, bakery goods, natural extracts & aromas) with the aim of developing new products and accessing new markets by exploiting the group’s synergies.

Now this determination to look toward the future, to anticipate the trends and demands of an ever changing market emerges in the form of the Innovation Center. Nell’ex capitale della dinastia Qin, Xiangyang, ha aperto le sue porte il Castello Reina. Si tratta del sesto castello aperto da Changyu, la più antica e importante azienda vinicola cinese. Changyu ha scelto Augusto Reina - Amministratore Delegato Illva Saronno Holding, maggiore azionista dell’azienda cinese, per rappresentare la nuova proprietà: una decisione che sottolinea la sinergia tra le due storiche società sinonimo di qualità a livello mondiale.

The Reina Castle is now fully operational in the city of Xiangyang, ex capital of the Qin dynasty. It’s the sixth in a series of similar locations opened by Changyu, China’s oldest and greatest winemaker.

Changyu chose Augusto Reina – CEO of Illva Saronno Holding, a major shareholder of the Chinese company – to represent the new property, so underlining the synergy between two storied brands synonymous with quality on a worldwide scale.

Il castello, costruito in stile italiano, è circondato da 73 ettari di vigne, dalle quali ci si aspetta una produzione di vini d’eccellenza per 3.000 tonnellate. All’interno sorge un importante centro di produzione vinicola, mentre nel seminterrato si estende la più grande cantina del continente asiatico (15.800 mq), all’interno della quale possono essere stoccate fino a 150.000 botti in legno. Queste botti sono realizzate con 20 varietà di legno differenti, fatte arrivare in Cina da tutto il mondo.

Il vino assume un gusto particolare a seconda del tipo di botte in cui viene fatto invecchiare. Grazie alle condizioni del terreno su cui sorgono queste vigne e all’integrazione delle tecniche di produzione italiane e cinesi e soprattutto alla stretta collaborazione e scambio di know how tra Illva Saronno e Changyu, i vini prodotti potranno presto competere con i migliori vini di fama mondiale.

Built in an Italian style, the castle is surrounded by 73 hectares (180 acres) of vineyards with a forecast production volume of 3,000 tons. On the premises is a major wine production center, while the 15,800-sqm wine cellar below – the largest on the Asian continent – can accommodate up to 150,000 wood barrels.

These barrels are made from 20 different varieties of wood imported into China from across the globe.

Augusto Reina, who is also head of production here, explains: “The wine acquires a particular taste depending on the type of barrel in which it is aged. Therefore we must select the wood that we use very carefully. We must also make sure that the aroma of the specific wood fits the characteristics of the grapes which we cultivate year after year. This is to guarantee that the aged wines we obtain always meet high standards of quality and feature irresistible scents and flavours.”

Thanks to the conditions of the terrain of the vineyards, to the integration of Italian and Chinese winemaking techniques, and above all to the close collaboration and know-how exchange between Changyu and Illva Saronno, soon the new products will be able to compete with the finest of world-class wines.

Disaronno Summer Camp

L’estate americana di Disaronno è stata animata anche dal Disaronno Summer Camp, nell’esclusiva cornice del Capri Hotel negli Hamptons. L’evento ha visto la partecipazione delle più importanti fashion blogger newyorchesi, di molti influencer, artisti e celebrità. Tra i personaggi famosi presenti: la fashionist Olivia Palermo con il marito Johannes Huebl, il regista premio Oscar Paul Haggis, il designer Luke Wessman, e lo stilista italiano Domenico Vacca. Per la parte musicale ha avuto grande successo la performance di Nelly e Angela Simmons che ha fatto ballare e divertire gli ospiti insieme a DJ del calibro di Lawrence Lee. Non è mancata la performance artistica con il live painting a bordo piscina dell’artista Jeremy Penn. I palati degli ospiti sono stati deliziati dalle proposte culinarie dello chef stellato Joe Isidori mentre, Heather Kelderman Disaronno Brand Ambassador, ha tenuto una divertente lezione di mixologia dove il protagonista indiscusso è stato Disaronno.

DISARONNO SUMMER CAMP - Another event added to the splash that the world’s favourite Italian liqueur made recently in the States: Disaronno Summer Camp at the exclusive Capri Hotel in the Hamptons. Creating a buzz were New York’s most important fashion bloggers, plus lots of influencers, artists and celebs. Among the famous personalities on the scene for the occasion were fashionist Olivia Palermo with her husband Johannes Huebl, Academy Award-winning movie director Paul Haggis, tattoo artist Luke Wessman and Italian fashion designer Domenico Vacca.
