In queste città abbiamo avuto il piacere di incontrare nuovamente alcuni dei massimi esperti della mixologia mondiale, come ad esempio l’olandese Tess Posthumus, che siamo felici di aver scoperto e lanciato nel firmamento del bartending mondiale, quando è stata eletta Mixing Star nel 2013.

Passo a un altro importante marchio del gruppo: Tia Maria, sempre più leader nel mondo dei cocktail al caffè. Abbiamo commissionato uno studio a The Future Laboratory, rinomata società di ricerca, per analizzare il trend e il risultato è stata l’identificazione di 4 nuove tribù di bevitori di drink al caffè, di cui scoprirete personalità e gusti leggendo la Illva News.

Concludo con due parole su Rabarbaro Zucca, orgoglio italiano all’estero che in soli due anni ha conquistato la terza medaglia internazionale per la sua straordinaria qualità.

We have come to the end of a very busy year for our group, one where we focused attention on the evolution of the image of Disaronno — protagonist of an exciting new TV commercial designed to enhance global brand awareness of the world’s favourite Italian liqueur.

We want to create an ever stronger emotional bond with consumers, and to do so we decided to concentrate on our DNA of Italian excellence and on Disaronno’s distinguishing features and values: elegance, premium quality, iconic status and originality.

With our new 360 communication we are all set to assert the brand at the international level, knowing full well we have an inimitable product with a contemporary style. This year we can count on an exceptional partnership with Missoni, one of the world’s most storied and representative of Italian fashion brands. This international project between Missoni and Disaronno, two exquisitely Italian names inextricably synonymous with excellence, is truly unique and special. We are sure it will give us great satisfaction.

The spirit of innovation plays an important part in Disaronno’s remarkable history and heritage. This comes through clearly in the evolution of The Mixing Star, which keeps taking on more and more of a social media slant. We launched the challenge and the bartenders met it, offering new ideas, fascinating suggestions and sustainable cocktails during the three legs of The Mixing Star journey, in Milan, Amsterdam and London. In these cities we had the pleasure of reconnecting with some of the world’s top mixology experts: Tess Posthumus, for example, from the Netherlands, who we are happy to have discovered and launched on the international bartending scene in 2013 when she won The Mixing Star competition. Now I will move on to one of the group’s other major brands: Tia Maria, ever more of a leader on the coffee cocktail front. We commissioned a study to The Future Laboratory, a prominent research institute, for purposes of analyzing the trend. 4 new tribes of coffee drinkers were identified. By reading Illva News you will discover their personality profiles and tastes.

I conclude with a few words about Rabarbaro Zucca, a product that is the pride of Italy abroad. For its outstanding quality it has just won another international medal, now making a total of three in a mere two years. Lo spot, girato in un’incantevole villa sul lago di Como, rappresenta pienamente l’inconfondibile stile di Disaronno, liquore italiano di eccellenza dalla personalità contemporanea e innovativa, amato in tutto il mondo; un brand premium e moderno sempre al passo con i tempi. Il video, che si anima tra immagini e musica intorno al concetto di rotazione, si articola in diversi momenti, tutti collegati tra loro: il volo spettacolare di uccelli che volano, il movimento impalpabile di una volta stellata, una danza armoniosa. The TV commercial will be in 30”, 20” and 15” format, distributed in the U.S.A., the U.K., Canada, the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium and Italy. “The commercial talks about the brand in a new way and encompasses the entire DISARONNO world: aspirational, evocative, iconic and elegant” - states Augusto Reina, Chief Executive Officer of Illva Saronno Holding.

The creative concept starts with a question: what movement unleashes emotions? The “spin”. In the same way, when you spin the iconic squared top to open the bottle of Disaronno, you enter the aspirational world of Disaronno, the original.

The commercial, filmed in an enchanting villa on Lake Como, fully portrays the unmistakable style of Disaronno, the exceptional Italian liqueur with a contemporary, innovative personality, beloved the world over; a premium, modern brand which is always current. È volata poi negli Stati Uniti, in UK, in Spagna e in Australia dove è stata lanciata con eleganti eventi, che hanno visto la partecipazione di VIP, stampa e influencer.

Thanks to the perfect synergy between cocktail and coffee cultures, coffee cocktails are at the center of an important rebirth. Confirmation of this fact comes also from a new study that Tia Maria commissioned to The Future Laboratory, a prominent research institute.

THE SENSORIALISTS La prima tribù responsabile di questo cambiamento è l’instragram-mad generation alla ricerca di “drink dal bell’aspetto” per la condivisione sui social. Tra le bevande preferite c’è il Tia Iced Popcorn Frappè, nato dal mix di Tia Maria, caffè espresso, latte e sciroppo di popcorn e decorato con veri popcorn.

TIA ICED POPCORN FRAPPÈ • 50 ml Tia Maria • 2 tazzine caffè espresso • 50 ml latte • 20 ml sciroppo di popcorn • popcorn freschi

Versare Tia Maria, il caffè espresso, il latte e lo sciroppo di popcorn in uno shaker. Aggiungere il ghiaccio e shakerare tutti gli ingredienti. Utilizzando un colino (strainer), versare gli ingredienti in un bicchiere colmo di ghiaccio. Completare con dei popcorn e servire con una cannuccia.

THE OPTIMISERS La seconda tribù sarà più propensa a cercare un perfetto equilibrio tra dovere e piacere mirato al benessere. Gli Optimizers apprezzeranno il mix tra l’effetto energizzante del caffè e gli ingredienti dei cocktail. Sceglieranno qualcosa di leggero, come il nuovissimo Tia Coffee Tonic – un twist tra caffè espresso e acqua tonica – ovvero l’ultima tendenza sul modo di servire il caffè, un drink raffinato che esalta il gusto intenso del caffè in maniera innovativa.

TIA COFFEE TONIC • 40,5 ml Tia Maria • 30 ml caffè espresso • 80 ml acqua tonica • pompelmo • ghiaccio

Versare Tia Maria e il caffè espresso in un bicchiere colmo di ghiaccio e mescolare. Completare con acqua tonica e guarnire con una scorza di pompelmo.

THE SENSORIALISTS - The first tribe behind the change is the Instagram-mad generation on the hunt for “goodlooking drinks” to share with others on social media. The tribe’s favourite drinks include the Tia Iced Popcorn Frappé: a mix of Tia Maria, espresso coffee, milk and popcorn syrup, topped off by a popcorn garnish.

TIA ICED POPCORN FRAPPÈ - 50 ml Tia Maria/2 shots of espresso coffee/50 ml milk/20 ml popcorn syrup/fresh popcorn.

Pour Tia Maria, espresso coffee, milk and popcorn syrup in a shaker, add ice and shake all ingredients. Using a strainer, pour the ingredients into a glass filled with ice. Complete with the popcorn and serve with a straw.

THE OPTIMIZERS - The second tribe will be more likely to aim for a perfect balance between duty and pleasure on the wellness front. Optimizers will appreciate coffee’s energizing effect in combo with cocktail ingredients. That’s why they will opt for a lighter drink such as the ultra new Tia Coffee Tonic, or espresso coffee and tonic water. The latest way to serve coffee, it’s a fine drink that makes the most of the brew’s intense flavour. All with quite a cool and refreshingly different twist.

TIA COFFEE TONIC - 40.5 ml Tia Maria/30 ml espresso coffee /80 ml tonic water /grapefruit/ice.

Pour Tia Maria and espresso coffee into a glass filled with ice, then stir. Complete with tonic water and garnish with a grapefruit twist.

THE EXPERIMENTAL CONNOISSEURS La terza tribù vorrà spingersi oltre i confini del gusto, alla ricerca di nuove combinazioni tra caffè e cocktail.

Il desiderio di sperimentare porterà gli appartenenti a questo gruppo a scegliere cocktail con due ingredienti ben distinti, come menta e caffè, come ritroviamo nel Tia Mint Frappè o nel Tia Mint Americano.

TIA MINT CAFFÈ • 50 ml Tia Maria • 2 tazzine di caffè espresso • 50 ml latte fresco • 6 foglie menta fresca

TIA MINT AMERICANO • 50 ml Tia Maria • 2 tazzine di caffè espresso • 10 ml sciroppo di zucchero • 6 foglie menta • 30 ml acqua frizzante

Versare Tia Maria, il caffè espresso e il latte nello shaker. Aggiungere, picchiettandole leggermente, 6 foglie di menta agli altri ingredienti. Shakerare, versare in un bicchiere e guarnire con un rametto di menta.

In un boston shaker mettere le foglie di menta, Tia Maria, il caffè espresso e lo sciroppo di zucchero. Shakerare per 40 secondi. Versare e setacciare il contenuto dello shaker utilizzando un colino in un bicchiere colmo di ghiaccio tritato. Mescolare e completare con acqua frizzante.

Decorare con menta.

THE TRUTH SEEKERS La quarta tribù chiederà drink di assoluta qualità, con ingredienti dalla provenienza certa e chiara. Gli appartenenti a questa tribù saranno più inclini a consumare un grande classico come il Tia Espresso Martini, perfettamente bilanciato e fedele alla ricetta originale degli anni ’80.

TIA ESPRESSO MARTINI • 25 ml Tia Maria • 25 ml vodka • 1/2 tazzine caffè espresso • 5 ml sciroppo di zucchero

Riempire un bicchiere martini con ghiaccio e lasciare raffreddare. Versare Tia Maria, vodka e il caffè espresso in uno shaker.

Colmare il resto dello shaker con ghiaccio.

Shakerare tutti gli ingredienti. Togliere il ghiaccio dal bicchiere martini. Versare e setacciare il contenuto dello shaker utilizzando un colino. Decorare con tre chicchi di caffè.

THE EXPERIMENTAL CONNOISSEURS - On a continual quest for new coffee/cocktail combos, the third tribe will want to go to the next level of taste. With a strong urge to experiment, this group will ultimately opt for cocktails featuring two distinct ingredients: coffee and mint, for instance, as in the Tia Mint Frappé or in the Tia Mint Americano.

TIA MINT CAFFÈ - 50 ml Tia Maria/2 shots of espresso coffee/50 ml fresh milk/6 fresh mint leaves.

Pour Tia Maria, espresso coffee and milk into a shaker. Add 6 mint leaves to the other ingredients, tapping the mint a bit in the process. Shake, pour into a glass and garnish with a sprig of mint.

TIA MINT AMERICANO - 50 ml Tia Maria/2 shots of espresso coffee/10 ml sugar syrup/6 mint leaves/30 ml sparkling water.

Put the mint, Tia Maria, espresso coffee and sugar syrup in a Boston shaker. Shake for 40 seconds. Using a strainer, pour the contents of the shaker into a glass filled with chopped ice. Stir, then top up with sparkling water. Add a mint garnish.

THE TRUTH SEEKERS - The fourth tribe will ask for top-quality drinks with ingredients of clear and certain origin.

Members of this tribe will be more inclined to drink a great classic like the Tia Espresso Martini, a perfectly balanced drink true to the original 1980s recipe.

TIA ESPRESSO MARTINI - 25 ml Tia Maria/25 ml vodka/1 to 2 shots of espresso coffee /5 ml sugar syrup.

Fill a martini glass with ice and let chill. Pour Tia Maria, vodka and espresso coffee into a shaker, then top up with ice.

AMSTERDAM The Dutch leg of the journey focuses for the most part on sustainability, with a strong zero kilometer orientation and a request for responsible use of raw materials. This includes fresh thoughts on how to keep alcohol content low, all while serving inviting cocktails. In the Netherlands the challenge is clearly about flavour, yet also about sustainable consumption.
