ell, it’s finally time to say a fond farewell to 2015 and a big hello to 2016! And what an exciting year it’s set to be... We want to start the New Year with a bang, so this issue you’ll find some great features to get your planning on track. This month you can learn how to get your dream day under budget (page 77), check out all the brand new bridal fashion trends on the catwalks right now (page 28) and read four inspiring big-day stories from some of the UK’s cutest couples (from page 60). Plus, with weddings overseas becoming more popular with UK couples every year, we take a look at all the reasons why it’s something you should consider (page 90). Thanks to Christmas and New Year, there will be a flurry of newly-engaged brides-to-be reading Love Our Wedding for the first time. Welcome to the wonderful world of wedding planning! Drop us a line if you need help with anything, we’d love to hear from you...

the day arrives – at last your dream dress is here. Except, what sits inside the vacuumpacked plastic bag is nothing more than beaded nightwear. The quality is awful and as for the style, you hardly recognise it. In that instant your dreams are shattered, and now instead of having plenty of time and a healthy budget, you are close to your wedding day and have half the budget you started with. So here she is, months after her

initial appointment, back in our boutique this time hoping we can work a miracle. Often we can and do help these brides, but because we are dealing with a much tighter timescale and half the budget, the bride must compromise – something no bride should have to do. There’s nothing worse than breaking the news that we cannot get her dream dress in time, or that it is now out of her budget. We’re used to making dreams come true, not breaking hearts. A recent bride summed up her online experience by saying ‘I’ve had the most stressful build up to my wedding, all because I didn’t heed that old saying; ‘if something looks too good to be true it usually is.’ Learn from their mistakes and buy your dress in a trusted boutique to guarantee the experience you always dreamed of.

LOVE OUR WEDDING
A DAY FULL OF GREAT IDEAS!
L AUR A & ROBIN With unique twists on tradition, this couple had a truly inspiring day. Bride Laura reveals all... How did Robin propose?
“Robin is a founding member of A Door in a Wall company, which creates city-wide treasure hunts and games around London. He put his skills to work to create a treasure hunt around our flat, which eventually led to a ring! There were ringing phones, boxes hanging over the balcony, messages written on mirrors. All very exciting!” 60 ♥ L OV E O U R W E D D I N G ♥ J A N U A R Y 2 0 1 6
What dress did you wear? “I had tried a few dresses but they were all out of my budget and I didn’t feel comfortable spending so much on a dress I’d only wear once, so I decided to make my own. I probably wouldn’t recommend that to another bride – planning a
wedding is enough to do – but it meant the dress was even more special.”
And the accessories?
“I borrowed the veil from a friend who I was bridesmaid for the year before. My shoes were sparkly silver kitten heels. I also wore pearl earrings
from Oliver Bonas and a jewelled sash.”
Who were your bridesmaids and where were their dresses from? “It was my sister as maid of honour. She was heavily pregnant so we had to look for a special dress and The Wedding

“We wanted to create something relaxed. Our fairground afternoon tea was enjoyed across the lounge areas at Hampton Manor. Later the guests joined a series of riddles dotted around the estate that formed a

AN INTIMATE OUTDOOR WEDDING
BECKY & A LE X This cute couple tell us all about their stunning autumn wedding, with soft green hues... Tell us about the proposal “I thought Cromer pier would be an ideal place to pop the question,” explains Alex. “I had loved this place since the first time I had been there and knew it meant a lot to Becky. I made a run into Cambridge the morning of the proposal to buy a big box of fireworks, I was all set to make tracks to Cromer in the early afternoon. When we got to Cromer

What was the highlight of your day?
“The highlight for us was that we were able to say our vows to each

What was your best buy? “Our three-tier wedding cake from M&S. It was delicious and we decorated it with fake roses and a topper.”
What’s your saving tip? “When we got engaged we opened a joint saver
account, which we saved £500 a month into for a year. You could withdraw funds as and when you needed to. We also had a terramundi pot that we filled with £2 coins. When we smashed it open we had £300 in, which really helped with costs.” J A N U A R Y 2 0 1 6 ♥ L OV E O U R W E D D I N G ♥ 67

Who were your bridesmaids and what dresses did they wear?
“They were my twin sister Natalie and my close friends Antoinette, Isobel, Tanya and Claire. They looked gorgeous in their purple lace dresses from ASOS.”
What was your theme?
“Our theme was Mojacar and the colour scheme was purple and orange. We used the indalo (symbol of Mojacar) on our personalised sign and stationery, based the wedding breakfast on Mojacar cuisine, and had sangria as our reception drink. Our cake by Gill’s Cakes and Cupcakes was a replica of the Torre del Pirulico tower, with indalo cake toppers.”
What’s your saving tip?
“Look online for invaluable recommendations from other brides-tobe. Also, be prepared to spend more on the things that are really important to you. HOW TO GET YOUR

DREAM DAY FOR LESS Here are some easy ways to save in time for the big day to ensure you get a perfect wedding under budget...
hether you’re making small changes in your daily life to save money or looking at different decoration options to keep funds in check, there’s plenty you can do to ensure you get the wedding you always wanted without having to get in debt. Here’s how...
Use a credit card Using a credit card may seem like a strange option but it’s actually very sensible. Not only will it make large payments for the venue, dress etc more secure, it can also save you money. You can earn interest on your credit card spends, which as long as you keep on top of paying it off, can add up
to some very good savings on your purchases. Pay for daily purchases in cash Unlike the wedding buys on card, consider using cash to get your regular day-to-day buys including your coffee at lunch, food shop and hair appointment. If you have a set
amount of cash in your hand, it will stop you overspending and also make you realise just how much you have been cashing out for things you may not really need. Use discount codes There are hundreds of discount code websites now that can save you a bundle.

Make sure you do your research and also investigate wedding magazines/website reader offers to see if you can take advantage. Some mobile companies offer priority discounts and freebies to their customers too, which can save you money on your regular shopping. And don’t forget to use those clubcard points wherever possible! Take advantage of the sales Black Friday, January sales, end of summer sales... These money-saving opportunities pop up year-round, so make sure you take advantage. January is particularly good as you can snap up some great Christmas decorations that can be used around your venue. Book in advance Every year interest rates go up, so if you can afford to buy the big things early, such as the venue, then do it. Ensure that you get this year’s rates rather than the year you are going to wed and you could save a substantial amount of money.

your own details will also make your day more personal to you, too. Just make sure you don’t bite off more than you can chew. Set your priorities It can be really easy to just go in head first after you get engaged and buy everything wedding related! But this really isn’t sensible, as most of what you buy early on won’t actually be suitable for the day as your theme and
styling evolves throughout the planning process. Instead, sit down together and prioritise what’s most important to you (venue, dress, photographer etc) and set a budget to each supplier individually. When you then have these in place, you can start looking at the finer details. This should prevent you from spending a little here and there on all the unnecessary bits, which really do add up!

Buy a terramundi pot These ceramic pots are such a great idea for couples trying to save. Whether you go for £1, £2 coins or just any loose change, pop it into your wedding pot whenever you can, as these can only be opened by smashing them, therefore making you resist dipping in and out of them. Then, when your pot is full or you’re near final payment deadlines, you smash it open and use the cash. There will be a lot more saved than you think!

Ask your girls for help Your bridesmaids are there to support you on your big day. Don’t feel embarrassed or bad about asking them to contribute towards their outfits, for example. Give them a colour you want them to wear and let them choose their own dresses – not only will this look really quirky, it will also make asking them to pay less awkward as you know they’ve chosen something they are happy to wear and will wear again after the wedding.
Be creative! Think about how you can get what you want for free. Instead of hiring a videographer if they’re just too expensive, why not ask guests to record messages on someone’s phone and then compile them after the big day? Or if you can’t afford a photobooth, just

Don’t let blustery English weather wipe the smile off your face on your wedding day. While we can never guarantee a perfect forecast, you’re much more likely to enjoy glorious weather abroad, as well as a stunning backdrop to all your big day snaps. There are so many places around the world to choose from, so you’re sure to find somewhere that’s perfect for you – just don’t forget to check the best time of year to travel to your chosen destination.
Looking to stretch the pennies even further? Weddings abroad can be as much as 50% cheaper than weddings in the UK and are therefore the perfect solution for couples looking to stick to a tight budget. Not only are venues cheaper but usually fewer guests attend so you’ll save money on costs per head, too – definitely a good enough reason to book those flights! Want to extend your trip? Why not make it your honeymoon destination, too?
For many, the idea of a huge, lavish wedding doesn’t appeal. Choosing to marry abroad is perfect for couples looking to create a more intimate and personal wedding day. Fewer guests attending means it will only be your nearest and dearest sharing your special day with you, and these smaller celebrations make each guest feel much more valued, too. You’ll be able to spend more time with everyone and won’t have to pay for a big party either. Perfect!
More couples are now choosing to spread their big day over an entire weekend as one day simply isn’t enough. Considering a wedding abroad is a great way to extend your wedding – you’ll be able to spend time away from the bustle of normal life and catch up with loved ones. Organising something personal before or after the big day and spending quality time with your guests will show them how much you appreciate them. Why not invite your favourite girls out
