My favourite picks this month! 1. This Bella Flower hair accessory by Lily Bella is so pretty 2. If you want a wow factor figure-hugging gown, this Kennedy dress by Enzoani is a must try 3. One of my favourite stationery designs is this In Bloom table number by Lucy Ledger 4. Kelsey Rose are bang on the money with their latest bridesmaid collections 5. This Delfine shoe by Emmy London is the perfect ‘something blue’

his issue we’re celebrating our first birthday in the best way possible – more pages, more fashion and a whole load of gorgeous real weddings! This bumper issue is packed full of ideas to inspire your day, and I have to say, the real weddings are some of the best, ever (from page 66)! As many of you will be approaching your own big day this summer, make sure you drop us a line when you have your photos back and you could be the star of an upcoming issue. Also inside this issue, I love the 50 on-trend dresses feature, showcasing the hottest designs for 2017 (page 19), our high summer theme is getting me super excited for the peak wedding season (page 60), and I love our menu ideas from Beales Gourmet – scrummy dishes whatever the weather (page 104). But my favourite feature this month is most common worries of a bride-to-be (page 99). When planning your wedding, there are bound to be things that don’t go smoothly and worrying about different scenarios or issues is completely natural. Don’t beat yourself up or get into a panicked frenzy, it’s going to be the best day ever, no matter what – we promise! 4

Dresses or jumpsuits?

Our stunning bride chose a bridal jumpsuit over a traditional gown. She tells us her story, exclusively! WEDDING DATE:

of You by Damien Rice, then started to hold up notecards. WEDDING VENUE: They had things written on Holy Spirit Church, East them that he wanted to do Greenbush, New York together in the future, tearing PHOTOGRAPHER: off the notecards each time – Crystal Turino Photography like the scene in Love Actually! Then he went down on one THE PROPOSAL knee, held out a Tiffany ring and We were on vacation in asked me to marry him. It was a Marrakech, Morocco. We came really delightful moment that I’ll back from dinner and he led me cherish forever. out to a fountain near the pool area that was all lit up. He then THE JUMPSUIT put headphones in my ears and I wore a jumpsuit, which was played I Can’t Take My Eyes Off made by House of Ollichon. February 14, 2016

The jumpsuit was called The Linford, which the designer said was named after her grandmother. I chose to go with a jumpsuit because I felt like the small occasion of the wedding had a more ‘going to the City Hall’ feel. I’ll most likely be going with a more traditional wedding dress for my summer 2017 wedding celebration. THE ACCESSORIES

The only accessory that I purchased was my veil, which I bought at The Mews Bridal in

Notting Hill. I ended up wearing my grandmother’s diamond cluster earrings (my something old), and used my mother’s clutch from when she was a bride (my something borrowed). Thanks to Lauren for sharing her story so far. We’ll be featuring her gorgeous real wedding in full next year! If you’ve decided to break the mould with a non-traditional ‘gown’, drop us a line or tweet @LoveOurWedMag

certainly get a much better suit for your money. We pride ourselves on offering suits that compete with top designers.”

GROOM GUIDE:

Reasons to hire a suit

Nic Chan spoke to two top groomswear companies to discover if ruling out suit hire is a big mistake

H

iring wedding attire is an attractive option for grooms with a vast selection of high-quality suits on the market. But is this a viable option for everyone? We spoke to Qaz Martin of formalwear boutique, Hugh Harris, and David Clark from new designer-led U.S venture,

Xedo, for two different takes on hiring groomswear. WHY HIRE INSTEAD OF BUYING? Qaz: “The main appeal of hiring is the price. It’s generally cheaper to hire a complete outfit than buy the equivalent. While I can’t speak for all hire shops, from us, you will

50 ♥ L OV E O U R W E D D I N G ♥ J U L Y 2 0 1 6

David: “There are many advantages, but the main one is the convenience. Xedo’s innovative online experience reinvents hire for grooms. Grooms don’t need to visit a store to get their perfect outfit, it’s all done online. They can even try their preferred suit on for free, long before the big day, to make sure it’s ‘the one’. Another advantage is our Perfect Match bridal party colour co-ordination that gives customers access to formalwear designed by top bridal designers including Alfred Angelo, Allure Bridals, Justin Alexander and Mon Cheri, so they can perfectly match the bridal party.”

IS THERE A TYPICAL STYLE GROOMS CHOOSE TO HIRE? Qaz: “We get a real mix of couples. We offer both very formal and traditional morning suits as well as more contemporary lounge suits, so there is certainly a broad appeal. We also offer a tweed suit to cater for a more relaxed country wedding.” David: “We don’t get one particular ‘type’ of groom as such. Grooms from all walks of life choose to hire. That’s why we offer so many different colour and style options. We like to make sure that there’s something for everyone!”

Changes to mens’ wedding fashion may be subtler than that of bridalwear, but trends come and go and hire companies are doing a pretty good job of keeping up. Whether WHAT IF THE GROOM you want a traditional WANTS SOMETHING style or something A LITTLE DIFFERENT? completely unique, Qaz: “When you factor in don’t rule out hiring, it suit and waistcoat colour, can make you feel like different styles and unlimited a superstar while also tie or cravat colours, there are saving you a bundle! endless combinations. Throw So grooms, give the in accessories and you can hiring market a try and create a look that is completely who knows, maybe you’ll unique for your wedding.” find ‘the one’?

Who were your bridesmaids and what dresses did they wear?

“My maid of honour was my oldest friend Kim, then my bridesmaids were my friend Lauren and my sister. Lastly, Jacques was my man of honour! He lives in Thailand so it was extra

special to have him there and a big part of our day. The bridesmaids wore simple blush dresses and looked perfect. Jacques wore a suit to complement them.”

What was your theme?

“English country garden. Everything you saw on the day was lovingly made by myself – from the 70ft of bunting to the vintage decor and oldfashioned sweet

shop favours. We had a close family friend prepare all the flowers and another made the beautiful petal, lace and wild flower-decorated wedding cake. The centrepieces were a slice of walnut tree with vintage jugs filled with wild flowers.”

THE VENUE Decorating the venue is one of the final things you’ll do before the big day, and it’s also one of the most fun bits, where you’ll see all your months of planning come together.Your venue will set the scene for your day and feature in pretty much every photograph, so use it to emphasise your theme. If you’re getting married in

a converted barn then fairylights around the beams will look magical. For hotel venues, flowers will play a big part in creating a more elegant feel to the reception space. For outdoors, you can never go wrong with bunting and hanging tealights from the trees that can be lit up in the evening to create an enchanting feel.

every bride-to-be that attends another wedding will have in the back of her mind, ‘how does this compare to mine?’ Essentially, every wedding is different, and no wedding is better or worse than anyone else’s. Weddings are about celebrating a marriage between two people, not about who gave the best gifts!

visit the venue a few times in the build up to the wedding and have a look at what decorations are needed, then when you’ve finished, leave it!

WILL THERE BE ENOUGH FOOD IN THE EVENING? This is a really tricky one. During the day you know how many guests you’ll be having DID I CHOOSE THE for the wedding breakfast, so RIGHT DRESS? that’s easy, but ordering food With so many incredible for the evening is far more designers out there, it’s really difficult. Many guests won’t tempting to keep looking at want to eat much, if at all, the new designs after you’ve in the evening after a hefty bought yours, but don’t do three-course meal, especially it! You felt amazing in your if you’ve got a sweetie bar, dress when you bought it, or other stalls with food to and although there are lots snack on throughout the of lovely new designs coming evening. Also, most of the through, they wouldn’t evening guests will have eaten necessarily make you feel the before they arrive, so they same way your dress did. won’t necessarily need lots to eat. As a general rule, if you HAVE I BOUGHT were having 60 guests to the ENOUGH day and 40 to the evening, DECORATIONS? you would want to cater for The little details can make all approximately 70-75 people. the difference to a reception If you’re having a hog roast or space, but likewise, too many something similar, make sure can be overkill. Make sure you you have enough buns for 100

people to even out between those who have a couple and those who have none. WILL GUESTS EXPECT A FREE BAR? Absolutely not! Everyone will expect to buy their own drinks after the speeches, so don’t worry about that. You’ve already fed and watered them for the majority of the day, so they should have no expectations to have free drinks all night. If you’re worried, maybe put in the invitations what time the bar will open and whether or not

it accepts card or cash only, just to make things clear. HOW DO WE ASK FOR MONEY INSTEAD OF GIFTS? It used to be tradition to ask for wedding gifts in the form of a list, but nowadays, many couples live together before getting married and therefore already have the home goods they need. Asking for money can be awkward, particularly with older generations, but insert a card into your invitations explaining that you do not need gifts so you won’t expect anything, but if they want to contribute money towards your honeymoon, you would really appreciate it.

HAVE I FORGOTTEN SOMETHING? The inevitable last-minute panic! The best way to combat this is to make lists. Tick off everything as you go and add anything that comes up along the way. Check and triple check these lists before the wedding to ensure you’re on top of everything. If it’s not on the list then it doesn’t matter!

ENJOY IT! YOU’RE ONLY GOING TO HAVE THIS SPECIAL DAY ONCE, SO MAKE THE MOST OF EVERY SECOND! 102 ♥ L OV E O U R W E D D I N G ♥ J U L Y 2 0 1 6
