Dress shopping is one of the most exciting parts of wedding planning, but that doesn’t mean you have to rush in and buy the first dress you see. Do a bit of research before you go shopping. Look at the latest collections in bridal magazines and websites, then search for your nearest stockists. BUDGETS COME FIRST!
Every bride will say that their wedding dress is a musthave expense that has no boundaries, but be realistic. If you and your husband-to-be both agree that you should
have whatever your heart desires – great – but if your bank balance says otherwise, you’ll need to have a maximum figure in mind and stick to it. WEAR THE RIGHT UNDERWEAR
You’ve found your perfect princess dress with a sweetheart neckline, only to be distracted by the black bra straps on your shoulders! Make sure you wear nude underwear including a strapless bra when you go shopping. It’s also a good idea to take shoes of a heel height you feel comfortable in. When

When you’re trying on all the beautiful dresses, you may want to take photos of yourself to remind you of your favourite styles, however, this is often prohibited. It isn’t because the boutique owner is being mean, it’s for good reason. The prohibition of photos is purely due to the counterfeit issue so that fraudsters won’t be able to
create a copycat of the dream dress you’ve tried on. Be respectful of the shop’s wishes and instead jot down the style number of the dress you like. STOP LOOKING!

e got a sneaky preview of all the newest bridal collections at The London Bridal Show in March, and we loved what we saw! Here are the new dress trends you should keep an eye out for… NUDE – As seen at Allure Bridals Coffee and taupe tones were one of the more popular
wedding dress trends appearing at the end of last year, so we weren’t surprised to see this trend everywhere at the show this year. We love the way that Allure Bridals paired flattering nude tones with their gorgeous intricate lace, as it really makes the detail pop and puts a sexy spin on a classic design. With new online fraudsters popping up daily, we ask industry experts to share their experiences and advice on this all-too common problem
A
re you looking to get your dream wedding dress for less? Perhaps an online store is the best option? Or asking a designer in China to create it for you? Unfortunately, too many brides fall for scams and aren’t aware of the consequences. “If goods are priced too good to be true they usually are,” says Chair of the BBSA, Amanda Bradwell. “One of the hardest things when caught out is to get your money returned – often no one will even return your messages.” Here are some of the industry’s top designers and independent bridal retailers to answer all too-common misconceptions when it comes to dress shopping.
‘THIS CAN’T BE A COMMON PROBLEM?’ Michele O’Neil from Callista Bridal & Chloe Bridals says: “Just this week I have had several shops complain about a website that has stolen our images and is ‘selling’ our styles at a fraction of the price – it’s taking time to educate brides to be aware.” ‘I’VE SEEN YOUR EXACT DRESS ONLINE FOR £200, SO WHY WOULD I PAY £1,200 FOR IT IN STORE?’ James Waddington from Romantica of Devon says: “Unfortunately it

is not our dress you have seen for £200 online, it is simply the image of our dress, which has been wrongfully used. The dresses that these websites are promising to supply are not made with the same high quality fabrics as our own dresses, with the same care and attention to fit and they do not arrive having been carefully chosen and adjusted by one of our highly skilled partner boutiques. A wedding dress is the most special gown a girl will ever wear, and as such, must be approached that way.” ‘DO THESE FAKE WEBSITES REALLY HAVE AN IMPACT ON INDEPENDENT BRIDAL RETAILERS?

Entertaining guests for the evening but don’t want to spoil your weight loss? Try this healthy menu from Slimming World
STARTER
Salmon pâté
SERVES 4, READY IN 20 MINUTES INGREDIENTS 200g skinless salmon fillet 120g smoked salmon 3 tbsp fat-free natural yogurt 1 tsp lemon juice Small handful of fresh dill, plus sprigs to garnish Salt and freshly ground black pepper crudites or crispbreads, to serve 1. Put the salmon fillet in a small pan and cover with water. Bring

to the boil, reduce the heat to medium and simmer for 10-12 minutes or until just cooked through. Drain well. Meanwhile, put the smoked salmon, yogurt, lemon juice and dill in a food processor. Flake in the cooked salmon fillet, season to taste and whizz until roughly combined. 2. Spoon the pâté into a shallow bowl, garnish with dill sprigs, if using, then cover, cool and chill for at least 1 hour. Keep in the fridge for up to 2 days and serve with crispbreads or your favourite crudités.

Garlic and herb chicken SERVES 4, READY IN 35 MINUTES
INGREDIENTS 4 skinless and boneless chicken breasts 2 tbsp all-purpose seasoning 1 large garlic clove, crushed 100g quark Small handful of chopped fresh parsley Low calorie cooking spray 2 red onions, peeled and cut into thin wedges 4 strands of cherry tomatoes on the vine 300g dried bulgar wheat 250g baby spinach leaves Salt and freshly ground black pepper

Bring to the boil, cover and simmer for 12-15 minutes until tender. Drain and stir in the baby spinach leaves, cover with a lid and leave to stand for 5 1. Preheat the oven to 200°C/Fan minutes until the spinach has just 180°C/Gas 6. Make a lengthways wilted. Stir well to combine and cut in each chicken breast to season to taste. Serve the chicken create a small pocket. Rub the with the tomatoes, onions and chicken breasts with the allbulgar wheat.

INGREDIENTS 2 x 115g pots Hartley’s No Added Sugar Orange Flavour Jelly 8 level tbsp ready-made low-fat custard 200g raspberries 2 kiwi fruit, peeled and sliced 1 banana, peeled and sliced 300g fat-free fromage frais 1 tsp vanilla extract 1 tbsp sweetener 12 level tbsp light aerosol cream 4 level tsp chocolate sauce 4 sprigs fresh mint, to decorate
1. Divide the jelly between 4 tall glasses and top with the custard. Mix the raspberries, kiwi fruit and banana in a bowl. In a separate bowl, mix together the fromage frais, vanilla extract and sweetener. Spoon half the fruit into the glasses, then top with half the fromage frais mixture. Spoon over the remaining fruit, then the remaining fromage frais mixture. Top with the cream, drizzle over the chocolate sauce and decorate with the mint to serve.

How did you feel when you saw him up the aisle?
“After a stressful morning, seeing Ray at the other end of the aisle waiting for me instantly made me feel calm and forget all of the chaos.”
Who were your bridesmaids and what dresses did they wear?

L AUR A & LUKE Inspired by JRR Tolkein’s The Hobbit, this day had a truly unique feel to it. Bride Laura tells all... How did Luke propose?
“We went on an activity weekend camping in Wales, and set up camp. Before we knew it we were in the heart of the worst thunder and hail storm I’d ever experienced. We decided it best to abandon the trip and head home in the morning. With this decision made, Luke reached for his bag and said: “Well I guess you’d better have this now then.” He handed me a small 108 ♥ L OV E O U R W E D D I N G ♥ M A Y 2 0 1 7
box, and on bent knee (in the river that was running through our tent by that point) he proposed!”

Studio in Allestree. My mother-in-law offered to pay for my dress, which made dress shopping into a lovely bonding experience. The ladies in store were wonderful from start to finish.”

“A nautical-themed golf setting – a combination of my love for everything nautical and my groom’s passion for golf. This
theme also represented our relationship as we reconnected at a golf outing long after meeting in college.”

“The whole day was a highlight! It was so wonderful to have all our family and friends together from all across the United States and from England. That doesn’t happen too often!”

want to think what will be will be, but you know that there’s no place for complacency in wedding planning. To top it off, there are lots of ‘traditions’ and set protocol brides feel they have to abide by. Well, fear not! Here’s our little guide to some of the most common mistakes and unnecessary stresses to help you out...
I HAVE TO INVITE ANYONE WHOSE WEDDING I’VE BEEN INVITED TO This is a tricky one and a lot of people will have different opinions on this. The harsh truth is that costs per head are one of the biggest expenses at weddings, and as much as you’d like to invite everyone you
know, it simply doesn’t make financial sense. If you were invited to a wedding before by friends, but not close friends, this doesn’t mean you have to invite them to yours all day. Ultimately it’s your wedding, and people need to respect your decisions. It may be polite to at least invite them to the evening as a good gesture, but

I CAN’T GET MARRIED IN THE EVENING Laws have changed so you can now get married anytime of day, or night! The great thing about this is that an evening wedding is far less expensive because you only need to feed guests once, and entertaining guests for hours rather than

IT’S FAR MORE EXPENSIVE TO GET MARRIED ABROAD Flying guests overseas for the big day sounds instantly like a massive cost, but don’t be deceived. There are a lot of specialist companies that have incredible wedding packages with just about everything you need for the big day included, apart from the dress and the flights. So, if you’re planning on taking, say, 20 people to your wedding abroad, and they contribute towards the cost of their flight, your wedding could end up being cheaper than here in the UK. A lot of the wedding packages are all-inclusive too, so alcohol and food will be free for guests. I’VE GOT TO PAY FOR THE BRIDESMAID DRESSES AND GROOMSMEN Traditionally, the couple would buy the bridesmaid dresses and help out with the groomsmen too, but this tradition is not as common any more. With the trends to have mismatched maids, lots of couples are asking bridesmaids to pay for their own dresses, maybe offering to contribute to the costs. With heavy, satin floor-length gowns that your girls will never wear again, it may be that you want to pay for these in full, but if the girls are allowed to choose their own dresses that can be worn after the day, then they should be more than happy to cover their own costs as they will get use out of it after the wedding.
I HAVE TO WEAR A WHITE OR IVORY WEDDING DRESS Sure, ivory and white are still the most popular choices for brides, but that certainly isn’t the only choice. Many designers offer colourful gowns, patterned designs and metallic dresses for brides, and they can be equally as stunning. A YEAR BEFORE THE WEDDING IS PLENTY OF TIME TO BOOK THE VENUE, PHOTOGRAPHER ETC A year might seem like a long way off, but in the wedding world, that’s no time at all! A lot of couples don’t realise how long things actually take to book and that suppliers can get booked up years in advance, so it’s best to book the main suppliers ASAP. For example, venue dates will be sparse from the 1st January for the rest of that year, and wedding dresses can take up to 6 months to be delivered from some designers, plus alterations. IT’S BAD LUCK TO… Superstitious brides can get themselves into a tizz about what they should and shouldn’t do on the big day, but we say the rules are there to be broken! Breaking the mould and having the wedding you want should be the ultimate goal for you both. WEDDING PLANNING IS EASY, RIGHT? Unfortunately not. MY WHOLE FAMILY WILL BURST INTO TEARS WHEN THEY SEE ME IN MY DRESS Ah yes, the fantasy of trying on your dress and instantly knowing it’s ‘the one’, as your mum and bridesmaids burst into tears of pure joy for you. A lovely idea, but not always the case. One of the things brides fret over most is finding the perfect dress that makes them feel amazing, and this pressure can actually make the dress shopping experience really daunting, and not particularly fun. Just try to relax, try on everything you like and also take suggestions from the boutique assistants. If you really like a dress and keep going back to it then that’s the one, even if you don’t well up in it, that’s sometimes just the way it goes.You may feel more relieved to find it rather than super excited! And if mum doesn’t cry, that doesn’t mean it’s the wrong choice. Everyone is different so keep your expectations low so you can only be pleasantly surprised if they do go bananas when they see you! If you’re unlucky with the weather on the day, what is the back-up plan and are the capacities the same? The bar Drinks are another big part of your day. They’re also a big part of what makes wedding venues viable businesses so there can be friction if expectations are mismatched. If you want to do something ‘off the beaten track’ or corkage, for instance, check that it’s allowed and find out the prices.
