Always cutting edge and en vogue, the array of new and exciting bridal styles, designs and creations – showcased at the White Gallery, 2017 – have us wedding fashionistas all aflutter and we can’t wait
to share! With everything you would expect from professional designers at the top of their game (Richard Designs, Gemy Maalouf, Caroline Castigliano, Jenny Yoo to name but a few!), we were equally delighted to see some unexpected new creations, and even surprises, from this year’s cohort. Featuring barelythere nude bodices and body
skimmers; tea-length styles and high-low dresses; beadedillusion panelling; sequins and sparkle, and even weddingday jumpsuits! We’ve sifted through the shimmer and sparkle to bring you our top tips for tomorrow’s trends…
DARE TO BE DIFFERENT Show-stopping dresses were aplenty at this year’s show, and we were struck and delighted by our beloved designers’ more daring nature taking centre stage. Peekaboo and plunging necklines; illusion panels and bodices in a sumptuous feast of silk, chiffon and crepe fabrics, all came

together in a match made in heaven to create perfectly seductive yet timelessly classic gowns. Sensual and sophisticated just got a whole lot easier thanks to fabulous new stand-out creations from Randy Fenoli, Donna Lee Designs and Christine Dando. BACK TO BACKS… There was something both wonderfully retro and futuristic about this year’s White Gallery show-time spectacular. With fabrics, cuts and finishes carrying that distinctly old-school Hollywood glamour vibe (thank you Richard Designs!),

we were also shown a glimpse into the future with dazzling designs focusing specifically on bold new backs! Stunning new creations from Emily Victoria White, Grace Phillips and Eliza Jane Howell showcased how truly spectacular a bride’s gown ought to be from 360 degrees! We fell in love with illusion backs, beaded and embroidered detail, shimmer and sparkle, and that seductive flash of flesh! Perfect also with a show-stopping tiara from Arianna Tiaras!
bowled-over by designers’ universal commitment to lace on their gowns – it truly is an enduring love affair! From delicate details to full-blown head-to-toe, lace is synonymous with sheer elegance, and gowns at the White Gallery spectacularly updated this traditional fabric in exciting and surprising new ways. We loved Anne Barge’s stunning use of lace to create the perfect silhouette, and Elbeth GIllis’ dresses in lace were truly unforgettable.
FUN AND FLIRTY! Many new and exciting dress lengths were revealed at the White Gallery. With wedding dresses needing to work harder these days – having to travel well in fabrics that won’t show the strain, as well as accommodating warmer, more heady climates – we loved the shorter, easy-to-wear styles, perfect for a free-spirited bride.

Tasty dishes for summer! If you want to slim down for your dream honeymoon, these summery treats are a great place to start!
STARTER
Halloumi and pesto peppers SERVES 4, READY IN 35 MINUTES
INGREDIENTS 350g cherry tomatoes, halved 4 peppers, halved through the stem, deseeded and stems removed Low calorie cooking spray 100g reduced-fat halloumi cheese, diced Salad, to serve For the pesto 2 slices of wholemeal bread (from a small 400g loaf) 3 garlic cloves, crushed 2 large handfuls of fresh basil leaves Juice of 1 small lemon 1. Preheat the oven to 200°C/ Fan 180°C/Gas 6. Divide the tomatoes between the pepper 56 ♥ L OV E O U R W E D D I N G ♥ J U L Y 2 0 1 7
halves and season to taste. To make the pesto, put the bread into a food processor and whizz into breadcrumbs. Add the garlic, basil, lemon juice and 90ml of water and whizz to a loose paste, then spoon the pesto into the peppers. 2. Put the peppers into an ovenproof dish (shallow enough to fit under your grill), spray with low calorie cooking spray and roast in the oven for 20 minutes or until tender. Preheat the grill to high. Push the halloumi pieces into the peppers, grind over a little more black pepper and cook under the hot grill for 5-10 minutes to brown the tops nicely. Serve hot with salad.
MAIN COURSE
Sweet chilli chicken and pepper kebabs SERVES 4, READY IN 35 MINUTES, PLUS MARINATING
DESSERT
Summer berry cream
SERVES 6, READY IN 45 MINUTES PLUS COOLING, STANDING AND CHILLING *Pregnant women, the elderly and babies are advised not to eat raw or partially cooked eggs.
INGREDIENTS 300g quark 300g fat-free natural Greek yogurt 2 tsp vanilla extract 2 egg whites* 2 tbsp sweetener Extra berries, to serve
the cream cups. Put the quark, yogurt and vanilla extract into a bowl and stir well until smooth.
INGREDIENTS 1 red chilli, deseeded and finely chopped, plus extra to serve 2 garlic cloves, crushed 2.5cm piece fresh root ginger, peeled and grated 1 level tsp sweetener 2 tbsp soy sauce Juice of 2 lemons, plus slices to serve 4 skinless and boneless chicken breasts, cut into bite-size chunks 2 large red peppers, deseeded and cut into bite-size chunks Fresh mint leaves and sprigs, to garnish Lemon slices, to serve Vegetables, to serve 1. Put the chilli, garlic, ginger, sweetener, soy sauce and lemon juice in a large non-reactive bowl (glass, ceramic or plastic)
and mix well. Take out 2 tbsp of the mixture and set aside. Add the chicken to the large bowl and toss well then cover and chill for at least 1 hour. Light the barbecue for direct medium heat. 2. Thread the chicken and pepper chunks on to 4 skewers and barbecue over direct medium heat for 7-8 minutes. Turn the skewers, brush with the reserved marinade and cook for a further 7-8 minutes or until the chicken is cooked through and tender. (Or cook on a griddle pan over a medium-high heat if the weather isn’t on your side!) 3. Scatter over the mint and extra chilli and serve hot with lemon slices and your favourite vegetables.

To get the most sustainable (and beautiful!) bouquets possible, work with a local
provider to ensure that your flowers are in season and as organic as possible. That means less money spent shipping in out-of-season blooms, and fresher, greener bouquets all round! OH-SO VINTAGE BRIDESMAID DRESSES
It’s an old stereotype that bridesmaid dresses only get worn once before being stored in the back of the wardrobe, but a lot of the time that’s exactly what happens (how many times have you reworn yours?). Instead of buying

“We were away on the beautiful Caribbean island of St. Vincent for our three -year anniversary. A week into the holiday, I was surprised with a romantic meal on the beach, just the two of us. There were flowers decorating the table, flames surrounding us and a view over the bay to die for. “Adam signed up to do the Paris Marathon in April 2015 and we decided to make a long weekend of it. I waited for Adam at the finish line, but as I was stood there, a guy who had just completed the marathon came running up to his girlfriend in front of me and proposed! As Adam crossed the line, I congratulated him and then told him that I had just witnessed ‘the worst 88 ♥ L OV E O U R W E D D I N G ♥ J U L Y 2 0 1 7
proposal I had ever seen!’ Little did I know, he had my engagement ring in his pocket the whole time! After a couple more days, Adam eventually found a beautiful park in Paris where he arranged for us to have a champagne picnic and he got down on one knee!”

“I booked my appointment at Brides of Winchester during the Chanticleer Designer Weekend. With the help of my mum and the lovely ladies at BOW, I managed to narrow it down to two dresses. I was torn! I was very lucky to meet the Chanticleer
designer, Tracy. She started sketching a design combining the bits I loved from both dresses. She cleverly pinned the dress in several places with additional bits of lace to give me an idea of how the final dress would look. I put on a veil and cried. It was perfect!”

“Autumnal and musicals. I had autumnal colours throughout with the bridesmaid dresses and
the decorations in the church and hall. Musicals were our table names with our joint favourite, Jersey Boys, being the top table. We then had props on every table for each musical. We also had all of the programmes of the shows we had been to around the room.”

WHAT IS THE CLUB HOTEL & SPA LIKE?
The Club Hotel & Spa is a sight for sore eyes! The decor is immaculate, bright and totally in keeping with the high class service the hotel offers. From the moment you walk through the door, you are looked after, and made to feel extra special. The rooms all have comfy beds that are so big you barely know your partner is there! In our suite we had a massive bathroom with a jet bath, a sofa and seating area with a TV to relax after a day enjoying the sights of Jersey, or indeed, the hotel’s amazing spa. WHAT’S THE FOOD LIKE?
The Michelin Star 4 AA Bohemia Restaurant in the hotel offers an impeccable service and food you could only dream of. We had the taster menus, which meant we each had 8-12 courses to enjoy throughout the evening, with a
sommelier on hand to provide delicious wines to accompany each dish. Beautifully presented and completely indulgent, we felt utterly spoilt here. The following day we returned to the restaurant for afternoon tea. The sandwiches were filling enough, but you simply had to make room for the incredible mini desserts, and of course the cream tea. The ultimate way to indulge with your partner on a special break together. IS THERE A SPA?
Yes there is, and what a fine spa it is, too. Indoors there are several treatment rooms where you can have single or couples’ massages, manicures, pedicures, facials and much more.You can then retreat to the indoor heated pool, the quiet sanctuary of the side rooms, or make your way outside to enjoy the outdoor pool. It was a little cold
for us this time, but definitely a must for a summer visit. CAN YOU GET MARRIED THERE?
The hotel doesn’t have a wedding license but could however cater for wedding receptions, and with cuisine and service this good, you’d be mad not to check it out, whether you’re a Jersey local or looking to wed a stone’s throw from home.
