elcome to our fabulously festive December issue, and the last issue of 2017! We’ve had a brilliant year, welcoming plenty of new brides and boutiques to the Love Our Wedding family, and we can’t wait for all the exciting new developments to come in 2018. As we approach the new year, we’ve filled our pages with helpful advice and inspiration for brides tying the knot in 2018 and beyond. There are fun ideas for favours (page 88), at-home exercises to help you rock your wedding dress (page 47), and must-have shots for your wedding album (page 81). But without a doubt, my favourite feature has to be figure-flattering wedding dresses (page 14) – there’s nothing more beautiful than a confident, happy bride! Indulge in these tasty, healthy dishes this festive season
VEGETARIAN CHRISTMAS ROAST Ready in 1 hour 20 minutes INGREDIENTS 75g dried brown basmati rice 65g dried Puy lentils SERVES Low-calorie cooking spray 1 medium onion, chopped 1 celery stick, chopped 2 tsp chopped fresh herbs (such as parsley, thyme, rosemary, sage), plus chopped parsley to serve 1 tsp paprika 2 tbsp tomato purée 1 tsp Marmite or yeast extract ½ x 400g can cannellini beans, rinsed and drained 1 medium carrot, peeled and coarsely grated 1 large egg, beaten 15g pecans, roughly chopped 1 level tbsp reduced-fat Cheddar cheese, coarsely grated Vegetables, to serve For the tomato sauce 1 tsp chopped fresh rosemary (plus sprigs to garnish) 3 garlic cloves, crushed 2 x 400g can peeled cherry tomatoes in juice, juice reserved

METHOD Put the rice, 150ml boiling water and a pinch of salt into a small saucepan over a high heat. Cover and bring to the boil, then reduce the heat to low and cook for 25 minutes. By which time all the water should have been absorbed. Turn off the heat and leave for five minutes, still covered. Uncover and set aside. Meanwhile, put the lentils into a saucepan of cold water, bring to the boil over a high heat and then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 20 minutes or until tender. Drain and set aside. At the same time, spray a non-stick saucepan with low-calorie cooking spray and place over a low heat. Add the onion, celery, herbs and some seasoning, and then stir, cover and cook for 10 minutes or until soft. Uncover, then stir in the paprika and cook for one minute more. Stir in the tomato purée and Marmite or yeast extract. Preheat the oven (180C/fan 160C/ gas 4). Spray a 450g loaf tin with low-calorie cooking spray and line with nonstick baking paper. Tip the cannellini beans into a mixing bowl and crush into a paste with a masher. Add the cooked vegetables, carrot and egg and mix well, then stir in the rice, lentils and some seasoning to taste. Spoon the mixture into the loaf tin and lightly level the top. Sprinkle with the pecans and cheese and bake for 45 minutes. Meanwhile, make the tomato sauce. Spray a saucepan with low-calorie cooking spray and place over a medium heat. Add the rosemary and garlic then when they start to sizzle, add the tomato juices from the cans and simmer, stirring until reduced and thickened. Stir in the cherry tomatoes and simmer for two minutes. Garnish with rosemary sprigs, season to taste and keep warm. Lift the roast out of the tin and leave it to sit for five minutes before slicing. Scatter over the parsley and serve hot with the tomato sauce and your favourite vegetables.

PEPPERED LAMB WITH SAFFRON POTATOES

INGREDIENTS 2.2kg leg of lamb, bone-in, visible fat removed Leaves of 4 fresh rosemary sprigs, plus a large sprig to garnish 6 garlic cloves, cut into thin matchsticks 2 tsp coarsely ground mixed peppercorns Large pinch of saffron threads 1 tbsp ras el hanout spice mix 500ml boiling vegetable stock Finely grated zest and juice of 1 unwaxed lemon Low-calorie cooking spray 2kg floury potatoes such as King Edward, peeled and thinly sliced 2 large red onions, thinly sliced Vegetables, to serve
METHOD Preheat the oven to 230C/fan 210C/gas 8. Using a sharp knife, make about 20 deep cuts in the lamb and poke in half of the
rosemary and all of the garlic. Season with the peppercorns and put the lamb in a non-stick roasting tin. Mix together the saffron, ras el hanout, stock, lemon zest and juice in a heatproof jug and set aside. Spray another large non-stick roasting tin with a little low-calorie cooking spray and layer the potatoes, red onions and remaining rosemary in it, seasoning to taste as you go. Pour over the saffron stock. Roast the lamb and potatoes for 20 minutes then reduce the heat to 180C/fan 160C/gas 4 and roast for a further 1 hour 25 minutes, checking the potatoes from time to time (cover them with foil if they’re getting a bit too brown for your liking). Drain any fat from the lamb and rest for a few minutes then transfer to a serving dish with the potatoes and a rosemary garnish. Carve and serve hot with your choice of vegetables to finish.
CHOC ‘N’ DATE BROWNIES Ready in 40 minutes
MAKES
INGREDIENTS 16 2 large brown-skinned sweet potatoes (about 500g), peeled and diced 100g porridge oats 3 level tbsp sweetener 1 medium egg* 12 dried medjool dates, stoned and roughly chopped 2 level tbsp low-fat spread 6 level tbsp cocoa powder (or raw cacao powder, available in larger supermarkets) 16 raspberries ½ level tsp icing sugar, to dust
METHOD Preheat your oven to 180C/fan 160C/gas 4 and line the base and sides of an 18cm square loose bottomed cake tin with non-stick baking paper.
Steam the sweet potatoes for 10 minutes or until tender (use a steamer or put them in a covered colander placed over a saucepan of boiling water and steam over a high heat). Leave to cool slightly. Put the oats into a food processor and blitz until you have fine crumbs. Add the sweetener, egg, dates, spread, cocoa powder, sweet potatoes and a pinch of salt, and whizz to a thick, smooth paste. Pour into the prepared tin, level the surface and carefully poke in the raspberries (placing them so that each brownie will get 1 raspberry). Bake for 35 minutes then leave to cool in the tin. Turn out on to a board then peel away and discard the baking paper. Cut into 16 squares and dust with icing sugar to serve. *Pregnant women, the elderly, babies and toddlers are advised to choose eggs showing the British Lion stamp if eating raw or partially cooked eggs

BACK FOUR MOVES TO HELP YOU WEAR A BACKLESS DRESS WITH CONFIDENCE A backless wedding dress is always a brave decision, so making sure you are toned and in tip-top condition is a must! Here are four moves from the team at Pepilates that will work your back muscles, burn fat and give you the confidence to rock your dream dress in style!
SUPER(WO)MAN Lay on the floor on your stomach with your arms out in front of you. Engage your bum, hamstrings and upper back to raise your arms, legs and chest off the floor. Hold this contraction for two seconds. Make sure to engage your core to get the best results from the exercise, and exhale during this movement. This move is called ‘the super(wo)man’, because when you are holding the contracted position, you should look like Superman when he is flying.
BIRD DOG This is a classic core exercise and strengthens your backline as well as improving your balance and ability to stabilise. Get down onto all fours. Use your hamstring and glutes to slide one leg back, while using your upper back muscles to lift your opposite arm up parallel to your torso. Keep the spine long from head to tail – no arching, now! Bring back to the original position and repeat on the other side. This counts as one repetition, and you need to repeat this 10 times.
REVERSE PLANK Sit with your legs extended in front of you, hands slightly behind your hips on the floor. Engage your core and try to pull your navel in and up towards your spine. Lift your hips up off the mat, keeping the legs straight. Gently tuck in your coccyx. If your hips sag or drop, return back to the floor and try instead with knees bent and feet flat on the mat. The goal is to maintain a straight line and hold the reverse plank for 20-30 seconds. Begin with holding this for a few seconds while you build your strength.
SWIMMING Lie flat on your stomach, arms and legs stretched out. Squeeze your inner thighs and heels together. Breathing continuously, pull your navel up off the mat and raise your upper back and head slightly. Simultaneously lift your right arm and your left leg. Squeeze your bottom and press your pubic bone down. Switch arms and legs in an even rhythm, like swimming. ‘Swim’ for a continuous 24 beats.

SUMO SQUAT Stand with your feet wider than hip-width apart, toes slightly turned out, holding a medicine ball in front of your chest. Squat down as low as you can, keeping your heels on the ground, tailbone tucked in slightly, and your back straight. Engage your core for stability and use your glutes and hamstrings to press back up to standing. That’s one repetition; you need to repeat it 15 times. You can use a dumbbell or a sandbag instead of a medicine ball if you don’t have one.
LUNGE AND VARIATIONS Standing with your feet hip-distance apart, step backwards (with one knee bent, the other knee so that your thigh is parallel to the floor). Stand back up using the glute and hamstring and push through the heel of the front foot. Do this 20 times. To do a curtsy lunge, step back at a slight angle and bend your back knee behind your front knee (again, 20 times). For a scooter lunge, bend your front leg so your thigh is parallel to the floor. Balance on your front foot and then extend your back leg (using the glutes) in and out (20 times), resting the knee between each rep. Then repeat the sequence on other leg.
CLAM PRESS Lie on your side in a straight line with your arm underneath your head for support. Engage your bottom to lift your waist up. Bend your knees into a 90-degree angle with feet in line. Make sure hips, knees and ankles are stacked. Inhale to prepare, exhale and raise your top knee, rotating the leg bone in the socket. Keep feet together and watch you don’t roll back off the bottom hip. Complete 20 on each side. SHOULDER BRIDGE Lie supine with knees bent, feet hip-distance apart. Exhale and peel your spine off the floor from the tailbone, one vertebra at a time. Inhale at the top, then exhale and roll the spine back down 10 times. Then, hold this position at the top, keeping the ribs closed at the front and engage the glute and hamstrings, pulsing the bottom (20 times).

An idyllic outdoor wedding, filled with yellow tones. Bride Holly tells us about her special day… How did Tom propose? “We were at an intimate sixcourse dinner for two at the stunning Alila Hotel in Ubud, Bali. It was disguised as a birthday treat, but at the end of the meal Tom proposed and I was stunned. He had designed the ring himself and it was just perfect.” What dress did you wear? “I wore an ivory lace dress by 64 ♥ L OV E O U R W E D D I N G ♥ D E C E M B E R 2 0 1 7
Morilee (bought from Confetti & Lace in Lakeside, Essex). It had a V-neckline, dropped waist, full skirt and train.” And the accessories? “I wore a full-length sheer veil that covered my face. My jewellery was from Kokomo in Bluewater and consisted of silver drop crystal earrings and
a full crystal silver necklace. My great-grandmother’s antique diamond ring acted as my ‘something old’. My lovely blue heels were Peetchy by Ted Baker.” What did Tom wear? “Tom wore a Prince of Wales check three-piece suit, which we got from Anthony Formal
Wear, Billericay. He looked great in it!” Who were your bridesmaids and what dresses did they wear? “Tom’s two sisters, Hayley and Maisie, and my closest friends – Paula, Vicky, Jodie and Anna. Their dresses all came from JJsHouse.”

A journey that started in the Malvern Hills… Bride Steph tells us about her perfect day How did Luke propose? “We were attending a family party in Great Malvern on 21st August 2016. We went for a walk in the hills (mirroring one of our first dates, three years earlier). Mid-way through, Luke got down on one knee. What dress did you wear? “My dress was from the Amélie collection at Sottero & Midgley. I initially tried it on at The National Wedding Show and fell in love. I adored the champagne colour, the deep ‘V’ on the bodice and the volume of the skirt – plus the embellishment was next
level! I ended up buying it from The Bridal Room in Broadway, Worcestershire. I was so excited to put the dress back on – I knew it was still ’the one’.” And the accessories? “I opted for a back necklace from Wildest Dreams Bridal. I paired the necklace with

Romance around every canal corner… Bride Natalia tells us about her dream Italian wedding How did Tom propose? “Tom proposed in November 2015, on Bonfire night. We were on a romantic walk overlooking Lichfield Cathedral, with a firework display as the backdrop. I had no idea he’d bought the ring six months prior!” What dress did you wear? “I only had to go into one dress shop before saying 76 ♥ L OV E O U R W E D D I N G ♥ D E C E M B E R 2 0 1 7
‘yes’ – it was the fifth dress that I tried on. I wore an Enzoani gown, which was ideal for a European destination wedding. It had an illusion V-back and long, delicate, A-line tulle layers, which allowed me to get in and out of gondolas with more ease (and grace)! I bought my dress from Wedding Belles, who not only
steamed my dress and veil, but also packed everything into a purpose-built wedding dress airline travel box (which meant I could take my dress onto the plane as hand luggage rather than in the hold). For my second dress, I wore a crystal embellished gown by Madeline Gardner New York.”
And the accessories? “I wore an Alan Hannah headpiece and matching pearl bracelet. I fell in love with a cathedral-length tiered lace veil by Richard Designs, while my earrings were from Liberty in Love.” What did the groom wear? “Tom wore a royal blue
