aimed at just donating its Ĺ awÄ b to SayyidunÄ GhauĹĄ-e-A’ẓam +     1 . Normally, people also relate sacrificial animals to each ] other; for example, if you ask a person who is wandering along with his sacrificial cow as to whose the cow is; he will reply, ‘Mine’ and it is not considered objectionable either. Therefore, if there is no objection to saying such sentences, no objection can be raised to saying ‘This is the goat of GhauĹĄ-e-PÄ k’ as well. In fact, Allah is the real Owner of each and every thing. Moreover, whether it is the sacrificial cow or the goat of GhauĹĄ-e-PÄ k, the name of Allah is mentioned at the time of slaughter of each sacrificial animal. May Allah remove satanic whispers! One may make the IÄŤášŁÄ l-e-Ĺ awÄ b1 of each and every deed such as Fará¸?, WÄ jib, SunnaÄĽ, Nafl, ᚢalÄ ÄĽ, fasting, ZakÄ ÄĽ, Ḥajj, delivering a speech or Dars, travelling with a MadanÄŤ QÄ filaÄĽ, acting upon MadanÄŤ Inâ€˜Ä mÄ t, call towards righteousness, studying a religious book or making individual effort etc.

Holding gathering for the recitation of the Holy Quran and serving meal to participants on the 3rd, 10th and 40th day of someone’s death or solemnizing his death-anniversary are all commendable deeds, as these are also the means of

IÄŤášŁÄ l-e-Ĺ awÄ b. By Sharč’aÄĽ, the absence of the proof of impermissibility about holding such rites is itself a proof of permissibility. Moreover, living people’s making supplication for the deceased is proven by the Holy QurÄ n and the whole concept of IÄŤášŁÄ l-e-Ĺ awÄ b is based on this QurÄ nic proof. Therefore, verse 10 of SĹŤraÄĽ Ḥashr, part 28 says:

F F _ 4  ` : 9H     H 4^ a 5   ,F _ RA  H 4^ + , F b 5 + ST + 1 And those who came after them submit: O our Rab! Forgive us and our brothers who preceded us in the faith

3.

The expenses for the meals served on Sawyam (the 3rd day of demise), death anniversary etc. can be paid from the bequest of the deceased provided all the inheritors are adult and they all give consent either. If even a single heir is not adult, it is extremely Ḥaram to do so. However, an adult inheritor can arrange for the meals from his own share. 33E-!23&4

4.

If the family of the deceased cook food on Sawyam, only the FaqÄŤrs (destitute people) may eat from it (the rich should not). 33-!23&4

5.

IÄŤášŁÄ l-e-Ĺ awÄ b may be made even to a day’s old deceased baby; Sawyam etc. may also be held.

9

Method of FÄ tiḼaÄĽ

6.

Ĺ awÄ b may also be offered to the living Muslims and even to those who have not yet been born.

7.

Ĺ awÄ b may be donated to Muslim Jinns as well.

8.

Solemnizing GiyÄ rÄĽwÄŤn SharÄŤf, RajabÄŤ SharÄŤf (the death anniversary of SayyidunÄ ImÄ m Ja’far áš˘Ä diq +     1 on ] nd the 22 of Rajab) etc. is permissible. It is not necessary to serve pudding in a “KĹŤná¸‹Ä â€? (an earthenware pot used to serve) only; it may be served in other plates etc. as well. It may also be brought out of the house.

9.

The meal served for sending Ĺ awÄ b to the saints is called ‘Naáş“r-o-NiyÄ z’ (in Urdu). This NiyÄ z (meal) is “Tabarrukâ€? (Sacred) and may be consumed by the rich as well as the poor.

10. Serving the meal of IÄŤášŁÄ l-e-Ĺ awÄ b to guests is not a condition; if the family members eat it themselves, there is no harm in doing so. 11. If one makes the intention of sending Ĺ awÄ b to saints for the meal he eats each time, it would be wonderful. For example, at the time of breakfast, he may intend, ‘May the M Ĺ awÄ b of this breakfast reach the Holy Prophet   $ ( K > L    C $A   Ů– > as well as all other Prophets 97 D   " $ ( through him!’ Similarly, at the time of lunch, he can make intention, ‘May the Ĺ awÄ b of this meal that I have eaten (or will eat) reach SayyidunÄ GhauĹĄ-e-A’ẓam +     1 as well as all ] other saints F c   " $ (!’ Likewise, at the time of dinner, he may intend, ’May the Ĺ awÄ b of this meal that I am about 10

to eat reach ImÄ m-e-AÄĽl-e-Sunnat ImÄ m AḼmad RazÄ Khan $ (    V 0 1 as well as all other Muslim men and women!’ 12. Whether Ĺ awÄ b is donated before the meal or after the meal, it is correct in both ways. 13. If possible, reserve 1% money of your total daily sale (rather than daily profit) for the NiyÄ z of GhauĹĄ-e-A’ẓam; the employees should save at least 3% of their monthly salary with the same intention. Either distribute religious books or spend this money on any virtuous act. In’shaa-Allah you will see its blessings for yourself. 14. “DÄ stÄ n-e-‘AjÄŤbâ€?, “ShaÄĽzÄ day kÄ Sarâ€?, “Das BÄŤbiyon kÄŤ KaÄĽÄ nÄŤâ€?, and “JanÄ b-e-SayyidaÄĽ kÄŤ KaÄĽÄ nÄŤâ€? etc. are all fabricated and false tales; never read them. A pamphlet entitled ‘Waᚣiyat NÄ maļ’ (Will) consisting of the dream of a man called “Shaykh AḼmadâ€? is distributed; it is also false. This pamphlet mentions the benefits of getting it photocopied and distributed in a particular quantity and harms otherwise; do not believe it at all. 15. Even if Ĺ awÄ b is donated to innumerable Muslims, it is hoped by the grace of AllÄ ÄĽ that complete Ĺ awÄ b will be given to each of them. It is not so that Ĺ awÄ b will be divided amongst them. B%%5! 16. The Ĺ awÄ b of the one donating Ĺ awÄ b is not reduced at all; rather, it is hoped that he would get Ĺ awÄ b equal to the total amount of Ĺ awÄ b he donated to each and every 11

Method of FÄ tiḼaÄĽ

person. For example, someone performed an act of piety for which he was given (the Ĺ awÄ b of) ten good deeds which he donated to ten other deceased Muslims. Now, each of the deceased would get ten good deeds and the sender of Ĺ awÄ b would get one hundred ten. If he donated Ĺ awÄ b to one thousand deceased, he would get ten thousand ten and so forth. 33!9!BF&,,17. IÄŤášŁÄ l-e-Ĺ awÄ b may be made to the Muslims only. Making IÄŤášŁÄ l-e-Ĺ awÄ b to a disbeliever or an apostate (Murtad) or calling them ‘MarḼōm’ is Kufr (blasphemy).

The intention of heart is sufficient for the donation of Ĺ awÄ b. For instance, if you give a rupee as charity or recite DurĹŤd once or tell someone a SunnaÄĽ or carry out call towards righteousness or deliver a SunnaÄĽ-inspiring speech or perform any other good deed, you should make intention in your heart like this: ‘May the Ĺ awÄ b of the SunnaÄĽ that I have just told M reach the Holy Prophet $A   Ů– >   $ ( K > L    C !’ Ĺ awÄ b will reach him. Further, Ĺ awÄ b will also reach to all of such people for whom intention was made. In addition to the presence of intention in heart, utterance of verbal intention is a SunnaÄĽ of the blessed companions F c   " $ ( as mentioned in the ḤadÄŤĹĄ which describes that SayyidunÄ Sa’d +    ] 1 had a well dug and then said, ‘This is for Sa’d’s mother.’ 12
