aksata chair submission for IFDA 2015 Indonesia Furniture Design Award
design brief to design an innovative chair that meet the market needs which use the combination of wood and other material, while also considering the local wisdom of Indonesia
time duration
: july 2015 : 2-3 weeks
analysis
today’s innovation is defined by our ability to develop our own resource as a capital to compete in the global market. by maximizing our potential to meet the global demand, we could be able to produce an innovative output with global acceptance.
market trend
inspired by the innovative use of oak and beech wood of ronan and edward bouroullec in its copenhagen collection, I than tried to develop a similar construction model by using the available local resources. in this case I decided to use the mix of merbau wood and laminated bamboo. this is more less a step to develop Indonesia local resources to produce a good product with wide global accepatance
indonesia is a country with huge natural resources it as also a place with a rich diversity which live together with harmony one of the main reason of this to happen is because the strong understanding and willingness of its citizen to respect each other so that the mutual understanding can be bulid among them.
local wisdom
synthesis from this in mind, i then tried to symbolize the energy of harmony which maintain the diversity of Indonesia in its ideal proportion, into an object. which in this case, a chair. after doing some ideation, i than decided to symbolize the differences in indonesia as two different line, horizontal and diagonal line. and by making a smooth transformation between them, was my intention to symbolize the collective ability to maintain this two different entities.
and when begin to translate it to the three dimensional object, i than imagined the two different line as two different plane, horizontal and vertical plane. and the connecting line as segments of plane, which maintain the stable form gradation of two previous plane to illustate the harmony energy of Indonesia.
sketch & mock up
and after making several sketches and mock up, and choosing the right dimension, i begun to make the digital drawing of it. and then produce the final design of project after deciding the material and structure of the product.

tesate third year studio assignment collaboration with kandura keramik
design brief to help small local industry develop either their market or product. this was done by analyizing the current company condition, and finding its threat and strength for the basis of product creation.
Zuchex Indonesia Awards 2014 Most Unique Tableware Product
time duration
: late 2014 : 2-3 month
analysis industry’s profile
kandura keramik is a home ceramic makers which specialized in the production of ceramic tableware. as the ceramic production process was done manually, it produced a less precise ceramic product, which maean a high rate of rejected product. to solve this, the company then raise the price of the product to meet the high production cost.
currently, kandura keramik is positioning itself at the middle to up market. and targeting young people (20-30) ranging from student to young family.
targeted market
survey on targeted costumer ceramic tableware product was preferred because its unique and exclusive. its also considered food grade product and quite easy to clean, mug, bowl and plate is the most posessed ceramic tableware product. when buying a ceramic tableware product, costumer was considering the shape, color, function and size of the product. one thing most of costumer complaining about is the fragility of ceramic tablware product. while on the other side, they also hope that ceramic tableware product could be well developed from its color, texture and function.
synthesis after studying industry’s profile and the current ceramic user needs and aspirations, i than tried to look for some new possibilities as the inspiration to produce a new ceramic tableware design. as one of the aspiration of ceramic tableware user is their hope to have a ceramic tableware product with developed function, i than take this as the opportunity to develop a new product. and after looking for some problem which current tableware product didn’t yet answer, i decided to study the sate serving activity as a focus to design a new ceramic tableware product.
sate is a sliced meat that roasted with charcoal and served with peanut sauce. widely regarded as Indonesia traditional food, the meat of sate is put on the stick made of bamboo. this stick is also used as the handle of sate.
problem statement
while sate sauce is inseperatable from sate eating, as it give the rich taste of it, sate sauce can also cause inconvinient in sate eating. when sate is served in flat medium with a lot of its sauce, the stick of bamboo as the handle of sate is often covered with the sate sauce. making the hand of the consumer dirty, when they pick the sate.
inspiration
after spotting the problem in sate serving, i then tried to find a solution that could answer this problem. pincuk is a tradisional food container which made from banana leaf. the simple yet effective structure of pincuk was able to serve both wet and dry food at the same time. so this inspire me to use the character of pincuk to solve the problem in sate serving.

giant flame project
design brief to design formal and casual leather shoes which use cheap material and low production cost for middle to down market.
time duration
: 2013 : 2-3 months
analysis the main issue regarding the small local industry which product is positioned in middle to low market, is the underestimation of their product. the strategy of using low cost production method of this industry is sometimes challanged by many people who prefer unoriginal product of some famous brand. this is more over caused by the people’s attitude, that prioritize the looks of product more than the quality ot it. for small industry, this could either be threat or a chance to grow their bussiness, considering the low design quality and low production cost of their product.
synthesis in order to change the people perception of local product generally, and low price product especially, the industry needs to produce a good design that meets the market trend but still suiting the industry’s profile.

design brief to design a casual footwear for children from 7 to 12 years old, with low production cost.
: 2014 : 2-3 months
analysis
synthesis
to design a shoes for children needs an understanding of the children actual needs and aspiration. this was done by observing their condition and behavior and take that as a consideration when designing a shoes for them.
as children sometimes take a time to learn to tie a shoes, we decided to design a shoes with either velcrow strap or rubber (slip on shoes). in order to make it easier for the children to wear the shoes.
but eventough we design the shoes for children, we must remember that it was their parents who have the biggest influence on the purchase of children shoes.
and as todays parents want their kids to be happy and playful, many of them are dressing their kids with bright and playful color to express the imaginative and playful character of their children. this also include the usage of playful and colorful pattern in their clothes, bags, and shoes.
therefore we also have to take the market trend, in which what do the current parents want their children looks like, as consideration in this process.
