New research by the Commonwealth Bank and Mortgage & Finance Association of Australia indicates that buyers are increasingly confident about buying property – more so than they were six months ago. More than half of the survey respondents feel that now is a good time to buy a home, citing interest rate cuts and stable property prices as key purchasing incentives. Personal rates of saving are also on the rise and households are reporting the highest levels of financial confidence in 12 months. In the rental market, high rents are prompting more than 65 per cent of first home buyers to re-assess their decision to continue renting. Confidence is likely to continue to rise according to Phil Naylor, CEO of Mortgage & Finance Association of Australia. ‘The trend we see in confidence and personal savings will only increase the desire and ability of more first home buyers to enter the housing market,’ he says.
