LOVE IS IN THE AIR By: The Whisnants
The Whisnants
Hi friends. It’s hard to believe the 2nd edition of Gospel Music Quarterly is here. Our family has enjoyed a wonderful first quarter of 2013. God has truly blessed and even challenged our lives these first few months of 2013. God is good and we desire His touch on all that we do. The month of May, this year, is a special time for many reasons. Jeff and Susan will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary on May 28th. It’s hard to believe that a Saturday night in mid 1984 at the Eastside Baptist Church in Blacksburg, SC would turn into a life of happiness and a second generation of family ministry that continues to travel the US and Canada and share with people on a weekly basis. The John Whisnant Family (Jeff’s family) were singing with the Roland Dry Singers (Susan and her parents) at a Saturday night gospel singing. Jeff and Susan met that night and after some intervention by various family members, they agreed to go on a date. Susan came home from that date and stated she had “met the man she would spend the rest of her life with”. It took Jeff quite a bit more time to decide the same thing, but the rest is history. Also, May will be a memorable month because Aaron Hise, who has traveled with The Whisnants for 12 years, will marry Suzanne Taylor of the Taylors. Their nuptials will take place at the Fayetteville Community Church in Fayetteville, NC on Tuesday evening May 21st. Yes, that’s a Southern Gospel wedding. Having a mid week service works much better with the travelling

schedule of Aaron and Suzanne’s friends who are involved in the industry. The festivities will be a grand event and Jeff and Susan wish Aaron and Suzanne all the best in their new life together. Aaron and Suzanne will reside in Morganton, NC and both will remain a part of their current ministries. On a slightly different note, Austin and Ethan are enjoying the success of their current project “Walk the Talk”. The first single from the project “Sheltered” reached #19 in the Singing News chart. The boys’ music has helped draw young people to Whisnants concerts and for this, we are very grateful. We truly believe there are still some young people who love this music. The Whisnants look with great anticipation to the remainder of 2013. April 16-20, 2013 at the Myrtle Beach Convention Ctr brings Singing In The Sun, 5 days of the best in Southern 4

Gospel Music and great Bible preaching. Don’t forget Gatlinburg Gathering, July 3-6 2013 at the Gatlinburg Convention Ctr, Gatlinburg TN. In a similar setting as “Singing In The Sun,” it promises 4 days of the best in Southern Gospel Music, Bible teaching and ALL the July 4th festivities that Gatlinburg, TN can offer. Another great event to consider is the Fall Fantasy Gospel Music Cruise Nov 2-8, 2013. Leaving Charleston SC, it will encompass 7 days of faith, fun and food. Enjoy music by The Whisnants, Talleys, Ivan Parker, Karen Peck & New River, Hoppers, Jeff & Sheri Easter and Tribute Qt.

NEW RELEASE! hymns & harmony
It was a real treat to work with the Whisnants on their new recording, “Hymns & Harmony”. The beautiful harmonies & sincerity in Jeff, Susan, & Aaron’s voices comes through on every song on the CD. When you add the great, familiar lyrics & melodies of the great, classic Gospel songs they chose for the recording, you end up with my favorite Whisnants project yet. I love it!

Tracy Stuffle
Libbi & Tracy Stuffle
On Monday, January 21st, Tracy Stuffle suffered a cerebral hemorrhage, which resulted in a massive stroke that paralyzed his right side and left him in a coma for several weeks. However, the Lord has done a marvelous and miraculous work in the last couple of weeks. He was recently taken off a ventilator and is able to breathe on his own for nearly fifteen hours at a time. Furthermore, Tracy has come out of the coma, is awake and able to open his eyes frequently. He isn’t able to speak just yet because of the trachea, but he is able to communicate with his hands and in other ways.
thank each of you who have taken the time to pray for Tracy, Libbi and Jared, and for asking others to join us in prayer. We know that we have a long road ahead of us, but we are also more aware than ever of the Mighty God that we serve, and we still believe that with Him, ALL things are possible, as His precious Word promises.

As for the group, LIbbi has asked us to carry on the Southern Gospel Music tradition that is the Perrys. We realize that it just isn’t the same without Tracy and Libbi. After all, they ARE the Perrys. But we are honored to carry on and try to uphold the good name that they have worked so hard to establish over the past four decades. Leah Page, a 19-year-old young lady from Chippley, Florida is filling in for Libbi as she stays by Tracy’s side. She was hand picked by Libbi and is doing an outstanding job. The people absolutely love her! Thanks to all of you who have come out to show your support

To say that we are grateful for his improvements and recent progress would be an understatement. We are overwhelmed, overjoyed, and more grateful than words can express for the Lord’s healing touch. We realize it is because of the prayers of God’s people, and we do not take this for granted. I would like to take this opportunity to

The response has been nothing short of amazing, and I cannot begin to tell you how thankful we are for you! So we covet your continued prayers for to the day when Tracy & Libbi are back on the road with us.

In 1992, the NQC Board made a bold decision to move the National Quartet Convention from its home for two decades in Nashville, Tennessee, to the Kentucky Expo Center in Louisville, Kentucky. Having reached capacity in the Nashville Municipal Auditorium, many attendees and exhibitors were being turned away, and the NQC Board felt that moving the event to the much larger KEC would give the event the opportunity to reach its full potential.

Experience all of the great afternoon and evening performances and see all of your favorite artists at one place and at one event. In addition, you can visit their booths in the vast exhibit hall, which has become the largest single Christian Music marketplace in the world. All of the information is available by calling 800846-8499 or by visiting the NQC website at www.nqconeline.com .
The first NQC in Louisville was held in 1994, and the NQC’s five year goals were met and exceeded in that first year with evening concert attendance more than doubling and the exposition more than quadrupling. From 1994, until the events of September 11, 2001, the NQC set all time attendance records. Becoming Gospel Music’s largest annual event drawing over 40,000 people from 40 states and a half dozen foreign countries, the years in Louisville have been blessed with tremendous success and some special moments such as the Speer Family
At the 2012 NQC, the NQC board made the announcement that the NQC would once again be moving to a new home in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Therefore, the 2013 NQC will be the 20th and last Convention held in Louisville. This will indeed be a special year as the NQC commemorates all of the great memories of the Louisville conventions. There will no doubt be some historic moments this year, so make sure you are a part of it either in person, or over the special NQC Webcast, which you can view live as the events are happening or on demand through the end of October. Are you Home? – 4 Reasons to be Sure! I’m sure you’ve heard the old phrase, “The lights are on but nobody is home.” It was often used in reference to someone who was ditzy or slightly daft. But I wonder if too often it might be used to describe the way many of us go through life. Are you home? •
Do you ever find yourself totally missing what someone is saying because you are thinking about what you might say in response?
•
Do you ever find yourself so intent on a getting to a destination that you enjoy nothing of the journey?
•
Do you think of times with friends as “them being with you” instead “you being with them?”
It is with a measure of sadness that I remember taking my daughters with me on camping trips. They remember being with me. But sadly they don’t remember me being WITH THEM. I had my agenda and they were along for the ride.

I was busy trying to make it to the top of the next ridge, spot the next herd of elk, or catch the next fish. At home, I was caught up in advancing my career. Some of their questions went unheard, unanswered. I didn’t feel the tug of their hand as they spotted a flower or mysterious mushroom that needed investigation. I discouraged them to skip a rock for fear it might scare away a fish. If I had it to do over again I would have made a conscious effort to be present with them. I adored my children but in some ways I imagine that being with me was like shaking the hand of a politician who looked past you checking to see if there was a more important person in the room. As I looked into the face of my grandson today I realized…………

The Power of HIS Song By: Melissa Brady
Melissa Brady
Time came for the annual celebration at Opryland, with Legacy Five, an event I usually attend, and friends began texting to ask if they’d see me there. I told them I doubted it, I had too much packing to do and I just didn’t have the time.
Melissa & her parents
In early 2011, both of my parents were diagnosed with cancer. As the doctors ran tests to determine their respective courses of action, I began making plans to head north to be with them. The days following the diagnosis, the worry began to feel like a weight on my chest that was so heavy, it squeezed the breath right out of my lungs and there didn’t seem to be enough oxygen in the air.
Truthfully, I simply felt too weary to go. Although I did have a lot to do, it was worry that had me down as much as the busy-ness of packing and I really didn’t want to spoil everyone’s enjoyment when friends asked the inevitable, “How are you?” and then I told them the truth. I was discouraged and I didn’t want them to know. Then, my friend’s sweet little five year old daughter looked up at me with wide eyes and asked, “Miss Melissa, are you coming and bringing your Oreo cookie dessert?” I looked into those innocent eyes and my decision was made. I’d be at Opryland, with dessert in hand!
In the months that followed, God’s healing touch carried my parents through the valley of cancer and brought them safely to the other side, and I am forever grateful! That night at Opryland, I was reminded why I love Christian music so much. It’s God’s music! It’s alive and it ministers to the heart. It gets inside of us and gives us just what we need, when we need it.
The night of the concert, I was standing near the Booth Brothers’ product table when I heard Triumphant Quartet begin to sing. I love their music, so I stepped into the concert hall to listen.
hosted by Melissa Brady
As I stood to the side of the room, they began to sing one of my favorite Triumphant Quartet songs, “Saved By Grace,” and before I knew it, I was clapping and singing along. All of the sudden, I realized the burden that had been weighing on me was completely gone and in that moment, I could BREATHE! I began to cry happy tears, and I’m sure I was the only person in that huge crowd who was clapping and crying on a fun, upbeat song!
God’s music is powerful enough to give us a tug of conviction to lead us in the right direction. It’s encouragement that lifts us up above the fray of every day life. It’s a song of celebration on the mountain top and best of all, it’s a reminder that God still loves us and is taking care of us. That is the power of HIS song!

For All He’s Done Greater Vision
By: Greater Vision

Original scores for the Orchestrations on “For All He’s Done”
Lari Goss & Gerald, discussing one of the Orchestra Scores
It’s been two years since their last major recording release… the longest time between releases in Greater Vision’s more than two-decade long career. Now, Greater Vision is preparing to release “For All He’s Done,” a brand-new CD on the Daywind label. Of course the obvious question is, “Was it worth the wait?”
Tenor, Chris Allman, contributed four songs to the new project, including the CD’s title-cut, “For All He’s Done.” “It’s always a joy to work with Gerald and Rodney in the studio,” Chris said. “Rodney never fails to deliver with fresh, new music, and Gerald’s love for this music is evident in his production. Once again, we’ve been able to create a project to be proud of.”
through in his arrangements, and there was a special magic and excitement in his orchestrations for this recording. You can hear it, and feel it, when you listen to the songs. It’s great to have the whole team back together.”
“For All He’s Done” is a ten-song CD, produced by Gerald Wolfe, with Orchestrations by Dove and Grammy Award-winning Producer/Arranger, Lari Goss. The new recording features new material written by group members, Chris Allman and Rodney Griffin, with additional material from Jim Brady and legendary-songwriter, Lanny Wolfe. Gerald Wolfe says, “narrowing down the great song selection to the final ten was one of the hardest parts of making this new recording.” For the first time in the group’s history, they recorded more songs than they knew would end up on the CD. “In the past, we’ve missed some great songs, because we didn’t look past the demo. This time, we decided to record fifteen songs, then narrow it down to ten, after we had time to live with them for a while,” Gerald said.
Baritone, and 14-time “Favorite Songwriter”, Rodney Griffin, wrote four new songs for the CD, and collaborated with Jim Brady on a fifth song. He also collaborated with a new, young writer from California, Natalie Harp, on one of the songs. “She’s going to become a great writer,” Rodney said. “It was also a joy to work with our hero, Lari Goss, again,” Rodney said. “I hope the listeners enjoy hearing the project, as much as we enjoyed recording it.” Lari Goss rejoined Greater Vision in the studio for the new project, writing the arrangements for the Orchestra. “This was the first time Lari had been in the studio in several months, after taking time off on the advice of his doctors,” Gerald said. “It was great to work with him again. His heart always comes 17
“For All He’s Done” is scheduled to release in April, and Gerald says, “picking the title was easy. When we think back on almost twenty-three years of music ministry as Greater Vision, it’s very easy to see how the Lord has led us, and blessed us. After almost two million road-miles, and more than thirty-five hundred concerts, we can’t help but be thankful for all He’s done!”

Q: Let’s start out easy, who’s the last person that called you? Claude: “Hmm... Les Beasley. He is in concert tonight. Dean: “Mark Lowry. He’s on the First Baptist Concert in August. Q. Yes, Claude. Looking back, how do you guys feel about growing up on a farm? Claude: “I loved it. It’s all I ever wanted to do. But, I never wanted milk cows; I always hated having to milk before we would walk to school. No, I wanted to raise beef cattle...and now that’s what I do!” Dean: “There was never a lack of things to do, but when I left I thought my farming days were over. All that changed recently, when me and Mike went in with Dad on a herd of forty cattle. Glad to be back.” Q. How would you describe the house where you grew up? Connie: “A typical, forties farm house. Before the push-button anything! There was always hot food, most of which came from our farm. There was love, respect and hard work.” Q. Can you share a childhood memory? Dean: “Me and my cousin decided to build a campfire, next thing you know the surrounding two acres were ablaze. Aunts, uncles and cousins came from everywhere with hoses for the fire and paddles for our tails. Mom and Dad were on the road.” Connie: “On Christmas eve in 1944, my brother had come home from boot camp before leaving for Germany. I was only four and sound asleep in my bed, but I remember all the commotion and

excitement coming from- what people call now- the den. Santa didn’t get to fill everyone’s stocking that year, but seeing Billy that night... There was just a special time I remember vividly to this day.”
Q. You’ve been a lot of places since then. What’s the farthest place you’ve traveled to and performed in? Kim: “Johannesburg, South Africa! I went there for a Gaither video taping as a soloist, amazing city.”
Q. Tell me about one of the turning points in the group. Claude: “Put that recorder on pause.” *sips coffee* “The first that comes to mind would be when Connie, myself and the brothers flew to Memphis for the national quartet convention in 1961. It was the first time we’d ever flown and we won the talent contest out of 80 groups. I think our relationship with the NQC really grew because of that first experience.” Connie: “Well, the greatest turning point probably came while we were recording the Here I Am album. That was Kim’s first time in the studio with us. The songs and her voice altered the following twenty-something years of our ministry.
Q. Of anywhere you’ve traveled to, what city houses your favorite restaurant? And what do you get there? Mike: “There’s this place called Craft Steakhouse at the MGM in Las Vegas. I’m a huge shellfish fan, and they serve the most perfectly prepared 3 1/2 pound lobster!”

mission accomplished By: Legacy Five Legacy Five
The first quarter of the year brought some exciting times our way. We rang in the new- year at our annual New Year’s Celebration in Nashville, Tennessee at Gaylord Opryland Hotel. What a fun 3-day event that is. If you have never attended this event, you need to put it on your bucket list. It is a marvelous time and the hotel is stunning this time of year with over 2 million Christmas lights and 12 nativity scenes. Then we went on our eastern Caribbean Celebration cruise with the Booth Brothers, Greater Vision, Triumphant Quartet, the Collingsworth Family and others. It was so much fun, we are doing it again next January. We also enjoyed our three-day event in Branson, Missouri called Branson PraiseFest and finally ended the quarter with a 7 day tour through Canada. Wow….what a great start to 2013! The second quarter of 2013 looks to be just as exciting as we get to experience 4 concerts in Scotland and N. Ireland. We love this part of the world and they love Southern Gospel Music. Finally, we end up in Niagara Falls the last weekend in May for the first annual Niagara Praise-Fest. This natural world wonder is a “Must See” and what better way to see it than in conjunction with 3 days of great gospel music? For more information on all of these special events, go to www.legacyfive.com and click on “special events.”
One of the many things we love about traveling the globe singing gospel music is meeting all of you and hearing your stories. Recently, in Atlanta, Georgia, a lady approached me and said, “Scott, in the December issue of the Singing News, it says tonight’s concert begins at 7 PM. In the January issue it say’s the concert begins at 7:30.” To which I replied, “What does your ticket say?” She answered…“$20.” I LOVE stuff like this. You can’t make this stuff up! But what I REALLY love is when I get a note like the one that follows. I have included the note with the permission of the writer but she did ask that I not include her name or town. Here is her letter: Dear Legacy Five, About eleven years ago I found myself divorced after nine years of marriage. He told me that he just didn’t love me anymore. In the aftermath and heartbreak, I soon found myself involved in a relationship with a married man. When this relationship fell apart and he decided to go back to his wife of 25 years, I was left despondent, heart broken and feeling very much alone and lost. So I went out to his barn and I found a razor blade and attempted to use it on my wrists, but the blade was too dull to get very much damage done before I was found and stopped. It was about two weeks after this that I was invited to your concert. When you guys sang, “I Stand Redeemed”, I crumbled. It was like you were singing my hearts cry. “When I think of all my faults and my failures....” But oh how 21
Legacy Five in concert
God used that chorus to encourage and heal this broken heart! So at tonight’s concert, I was desiring to hear it again in the aftermath of yet another failed 9 1/2 year marriage. This time my husband had turned verbally and mentally abusive and I believe it was soon to escalate into physical abuse. For my safety and the safety of my 3 year-old son, we left. The good news is this: God has continued to do exceeding abundantly above all I could ask or think. Now don’t get me wrong. I’ve had some pretty rough faith days, and not always had the most Godly of thoughts and attitudes, but His provision for us has been so wonderful, and at the end of the day I can still say, I Stand Redeemed, no matter what. I hope this can encourage you just a little to know what an impact your service to the Lord is having. Thank you for your continued service and sacrifice, and for sharing the good news of the gospel.” So to this lady and the countless others who have been encouraged through gospel music, all I can say is, Mission Accomplished! To God be the glory!

Daddy & Baby Embry
I’m not sure if anyone is aware of this or not but, I am a PROUD dad! My wife Kasey and I became first time parents to a little girl on August 24th, of last year. Embry Caroline Inman entered the world at a whopping 8 lbs 7 oz and immediately stole our hearts, as well as her grandparents!
during that time, many of you prayed for our little girl and we felt those prayers. The peace that only God can give was given to us during that week and we were ready for any outcome. When we took Embry home, she had to wear a heart monitor and took seizure medication regularly. We are happy to announce that as of January, she is completely off of the heart monitor and medicine and is completely healed. We’re so thankful and we praise the Lord for that.
leaving Embry and Kasey for a weekend. But it’s ALWAYS nice to come back home and have those two... Well three counting our dog Sammy, waiting for me when I get there. I hope all of you get a chance to meet my little family Soon!
As some of you know, the first week of Embry’s life was a tough one. Within the first day she started experiencing seizures and it caused her to stop breathing multiple times. One of those times was in our arms in the ICU. We were devastated, heartbroken, and felt helpless as parents. A great friend of ours, Kim White, sent me an email during that week and in that message she said, “Scotty you have practiced faith your whole life, now it’s time to use it”. Wow! That hit me like a ton of bricks. Leaning on & trusting God is what ultimately got us through. To rule out possible brain damage and infections, they did a series of tests and
Through it all my wife was a rock and I’m so thankful for her. Kasey is a stayat-home mom and a GREAT mom at that! I am extremely blessed to have her in my life and Embry is in good hands. We travel close to 200 days a year and it’s never easy to leave home. Having a newborn at the house now, makes it even harder. Sometimes it’s been emotional 22

Thanks for picking up this FREE copy of the Gospel Music Quarterly! We hope you enjoy all the useful information you will find from some of your favorite Gospel Artists. Gospel Music Quarterly is a joint, cross-marketing effort of The Booth Brothers, Greater Vision, The Hoppers, Legacy Five, The Perrys, Mark Trammell Quartet, Triumphant Quartet, and The Whisnants. Our goal is to provide you with Concert Information for your area, News about current “Happenings” and Special Events, and up-to-date information about great, new music. We also want to introduce you to the music of Artists you may not be familiar with, who we think you will enjoy. Our friends at Innovative Management, & Consulting (IMC) compile and publish Gospel Music Quarterly in January, April, July, and October. The FREE print version is available at many concerts you attend. A FREE digital subscription is also available by visiting www.gospelmusicquarterly.com, and entering your Email Address.
