AZOFF MSG MANAGEMENT
DREAM COMPANY
Los Angeles, California
Irving Azoff is a name synonymous in the international music world. His original company, Frontline Management, represented some of America’s best such as The Eagles, Steely Dan, Jimmy Buffet, Boz Scaggs, Stevie Nicks, Heart and Jackson Browne. From being CEO of MCA Music, the founder of Full Moon Records, and producing movies like Urban Cowboy and Fast Times at Ridgemont High – he developed a unique position in the entertainment field. Azoff ’s first clients were Joe Walsh and Dan Fogelberg, and then began to work with The Eagles in Geffen RobertsManagement/ Asylum Records. When Asylum Records were sold, The Eagles flew under the wing of Irving Azoff. Mr. Azoff sold Frontline Management and its roster of 250 acts to Live Nation, and after he turned Live Nation into North America’s largest tour promoters, and re-structured Ticketmaster to one of the biggest online ticketing operations. In 2012, Azoff, exited from Live Nation/Ticketmaster to start up his current Azoff SMG Management. His current management
INFLUENCES
Bernie Finkelstein
clients include Christina Aguilera, The Eagles, Journey, Van Halen, 30 Seconds to Mars and Steely Dan. Azoff was recognized in the music industry’s trade bible, Billboard’s 2012’s Power 100, topping the list as the most powerful person in the music industry. Over the years, I have read about the ups and downs of Azoff and his clients. As a personal fan of Joe Walsh, and with a taste of the music business in Canada, Azoff would be one person I would like to rub elbows with. To work in Azoff SMG Management is a dream destination of anybody in the business. The knowledge, the contacts, and the artists themselves would only be the tip of all that would be gained. Los Angeles, not the internet, is the center of the music business universe. California is the home of the big deals, the movers and the shakers, and if there was a place to work – this is it. My dream job lies south of the border with Irving Azoff SMG Management. Where is that application?
True North Records Finkelstein Management
Sam Sneiderman
Bernie Finkelstein has been one of the leading figures in Canadian music industry for over 40 years. Bernie has managed leading artists such as Barney Bentall, Murray McLachlan, Dan Hill and currently represents Bruce Cockburn, Stephen Fearing, Blackie And the Rodeo Kings. He founded True North Records, Canada’s oldest and one of this country’s largest independent record companies.
Sam launched “Sam the Record Man” in its iconic Yonge Street location in 1961. At one time, this was Canada’s largest chain music retailer – and best known for its twin rotating neon record signs. While the store featured autographs and signed photographed from the likes of Elton John, Iggy Pop, Liberace and Bruce Springsteen, he featured in store performances by Canadian performers – Gordon Lightfoot, Blue Rodeo, Daniel Lanois and Saga.
Other than the artists mentioned; True North has released recordings by Carole Pope and Rough Trade, Randy Bachman, Lenny Breau, Lighthouse and The Rheostatics. Recognition in awards amounts to 40 Juno Awards, over 400 Juno Award nominations, and 39 gold and platinum records. Bernie Finkelstein was recently elected to the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. Now this is a Canadian success story.
“SamThe Record Man” What I admired about Sam is that he was an early promoter of Canadian music artists, was instrumental in getting Canadian content on national rodeo, and he paved the way to get this nation’s musical community recognized.
