Founded March 16, 1966 in Cypress California, Vans has exploded in recent years, becoming one of the worlds most popular skate shoes. Starting as just a shoe company making shoes by hand, Vans has expanded emensly, branching out into many different sub-markets such as apperal and skateboard accessories. Moreover, after almost 48 years of being in business, Vans has still kept its original attribute close to its heart, by still producing its original shoe model, the Era. Besides shoes though, Vans has also created many new shoe lines, to attract the attention of those who are looking for something different.

shoes became popular. In the 1970’s, the shoes became very popular, due to the new trend at the time, skateboarding. The patent on their “waffle” pattern design on the soles of the shoes meant that Vans was the only company that could produce them. At the time, Vans was the most preffered skate shoe in the world, and has continued to lead that legacy today! However, Vans isnt just a corporate company. They never fail to stick to their roots, and by promoting skateboarding through funding the construction of new skate parks around the world, to sponsoring competitions, Vans definatly gives back to the sport that made it the company what it is today.

“Skateboarders who liked Vans’ rugged make-up and sticky sole were seen wearing Vans all over Southern California in the early 1970s”.

The idea for Vans occured when brothers James and Paul Van Doren, Gordon Lee and Serge D’Elia opened the original Vans store under the name The Van Doren Rubber Company. The brothers made the shoes sold in the store by order, and formed the soles, ultimatly making the shoes by hand! As time went on, the

Vans is a company that I look up to, as they show me to never give up on something you beleive in. By growing their small time shoe company into the world’s biggest skate shoe worldwide, Vans succssfully proved that by beleiving in your product, you can acheive success.

Steven Paul Jobs was an entrepreneur, and was the brain behind the multi-billion dollar company Apple. Known for innovation, the company has gained a lot of succcess in recent years, with their nack for bringing the public not only the products they want, but also the newest in technoligy. Born October 24, 1955, in San Fransisco, California, Jobs was put up for adoption before being welcomed by his adopted parents, Paul Reinholt Jobs, and Clara Jobs. By the age of five, Jobs found himself moving out of San Fransisco, to Mountain View, California. Here, Steve’s father worked as a mechanic and carpenter, and often showed him how to dismantle and rebuild electronics such as televisions and electronics. It was here where Jobs became intrested in technical tinkering.

Although not a success until the 90’s, Apple has definatly been a dominant brand over the last fifteen years or so. By being the company known for its innovation, Apple has won consumers over with there products time and time again, by bringing them the newest in high tech products. By positioning itsself with consumers, Apple has also successfully made itsself more of a pop culture icon, than a company in this day and age, and a lot of it it due to Steve Jobs. I am inspired by Steve Jobs, as I find he is the most innovative person in our generation. By designing the newest technoligy, he successfully expanded the technological world, and also gained a world wide base of loyal customers.

TJ Locke Originally from Hamilton, Ontario, I am currently living in Kingston, Ontario while studying Advertising and Marketing Communications at St. Lawrence College. In the future, I hope to be working in the sports industry, either as a advertiser for a sports team, or a sports company (ex: CCM). Although I love a lot of sports, nothing compares to my love for hockey, and by growing up so close to Toronto, I was born and raised a die hard Maple Leafs fan. In saying this, my dream job would definatly have to be working for the Maple Leafs orgonization in either their advertising, or event planning sector.

Shown above is a map showing where Hamilton is in comparision to Kingston. Below is a small questionaire in order to give more of a in depth description of myself, and my intrests: Age: 19
