hello

1

For me the whole of these 3 years have been a massive learning experience I feel I’ve grown up a lot and realised many things about myself and life Therefore I’m going to share what the most important things I’ve learnt about in my presenta>on through pictures of me growing up

2

So I came to uni and was really excited for the whole experience

3

It was quite daun>ng coming to leeds by myself I didn’t no what to expect and didn’t really no what graphic design was But I was preCy confident in my abili>es

4

However that confidence was wiped clean when I met you lot Ini>ally I was really in>midated by everyones skills and knowledge about graphics I felt I was completely out of my depth and didn’t have a clue how to do anything especially digitally It was definatly a challenge for me to get my head around it all and keep up But over the last 3 years I think I’ve learnt alot both professionally and personally

5

I moved out of home for the first >me And learnt to be independent

6

This I realised is completely exhaus>ng to do and looking aKer yourself can be super hard at >mes

7

but its helped having support and friends like you guys to lean on Especially on those early Monday mornings with Fred

8

I think that being independent and coming on this course has made me smarter, wiser and definatly more ready for the professional world. These are just some of the things ive leant, need to learn, experienced and realised from the last 3 years.

9

Firstly I have learnt how I wanted to present myself both personally and professionally to others as well as the type of person I want to be and the kind of work I want be part of

10

I’ve learnt how to think differently and use my thought process in order to create innova>ve ideas to stand out from the crowd

11

I’ve realised its easy to give up or lie back and let things happen when >mes are tough But it doesn’t get you where you want or the result your aKer because you no You didn’t put in 100% and that you could of done more

12

As always there needs to be a balance between personal and professional life I’m always learning to juggle work, play and domes>c du>es, some geXng more of my aCen>on then others at >mes..

13

Think it’s safe to say that some>mes theres been more party

14

And I imagine at some point theres been more work...

15

But its overall I’ve realised it’s important to take >me for yourself and your own interests As they help inspire you and your work and keep your mind fresh

16

Therefore don’t stop being curious And always look for new things and ways to do stuff

17

When you find something jump in both feet first Even if you don’t know how to do it Youll only ever learn by trying

18

Don’t be afraid to ask for help when you don’t know what to do

19

Because you can always learn things from others who do You really can never no enough or have enough skills

20

In return, share what you do no with people In par>cular ideas, and they will share back with you

21

I’ve learnt lots of new skills from different people over the past few years From soKware to kniXng to concepts to cooking and now I no where my talents lie and don’t lie so much It’s all helped me realise what area of design I want to do and what kind of things I want to achieve in life

22

A definate skill I’ve acquired is sleeping And I’ve realised geXng sleep is vital for my brain to func>on This leads me onto

23

deciding and ordering your priori>es You cant do it all and some>mes you cant go out the night before a big work thing You’ve got to make a decision of which is more important to you and reluctantly some>mes it’s the more boring op>on

24

However even at the best of >mes things don’t and won’t always go to plan and they can get messy and stressful This for me usually is the craKing of the final piece but this year my biggest struggle was having a mental block with inspira>on, mo>va>on and ideas

25

Theres been >mes i’ve wanted to give up, go hide and just sleep

26

But I tried

27

And tried

28

And in the end I’ve got somewhere by persevering

29

Doing things outside of uni have helped me Ive been really lucky and had some amazing personal experiences over last 3 years I’ve been skiing, barcelona, budapest, travelled around croa>a, and I’m going to amsterdam on Monday

30

I’ve realised that its through doing things in ‘real’ life that inspire me and mo>vate my work the most So experiencing new things and new places is going to be a priority for me in the future

31

I’ve entered compe>>ons which I feel have been a very valuable experience GeXng my work out there makes it more real and relevant

32

I had my success last year with YCN And hopefully me and seb will win D&AD – fingers crossed

33

More importantly I’ve learnt to work with others and the importance of working as a team I witnessed this in the placement I’ve just done where there were various teams and people working on different aspects of the pitch

34

And when working as part of a team you can build something bigger and beCer That you wouldn’t be able to achieve by yourself

35

However it is also vital to learn to do things by yourself as well as part of a team, Like blowing out the candles

36

It always helps to keep your aXtude posi>ve and see things half full, like me filling up this boat cup by cup It can seem daun>ng doing it yourself but you can get a huge sense of achievement when you’ve done it

37

But I’ve realised it’s really important to be pa>ent in geXng there Good things come to those who wait But don’t expect them to just happen without hard graK

38

You don’t always get to do stuff you enjoy And things don’t always go to plan

39

Some>mes its easier to have a fit but it doesn’t solve anything

40

It helps by doing things for others It can make you feel beCer if your having a rough >me to do something for someone else But also the simple things can go along way and being nice to people can help get you where you want to be as well

41

I believe you shouldn’t step over others or hold people back to get where you want to go but Help each other and get there together And that’s something I really want to maintain throughout my career

42

Doing things that you believe in helps you to get comfortable in your own skin And you should always stay true to yourself in your work Theres no point trying to be who you think they want you to be in order to work there because it won’t be the right match And you probably won’t end up enjoying it

43

Overall you just have to be brave and take the plunge

44

And hope for the best that you’re right for them as yourself

45

I heard -‐ Be indispensible somewhere and it struck a cord with me To me it means the kind of person and professional who people want to be part of – someone who people will want to come to your birthday It is something I defiantly strive for both professional and personally

46

I think a few things you can do to achieve this is by not being afraid to be silly or suggest anything No idea is a bad one because it might lead someone else to think of something

47

To be bright and bold Don’t be afraid to speak out your opinion in crits but always be construc>ve and posi>ve in your feedback

48

Do things that people and yourself would be proud of

49

And to keep those close to you as a priority My family have been indispensible to me the last few years They’ve helped inspire me and kept me going

50

I’ve learn a heck of a lot over the years However theres s>ll things I don’t understand and have to learn

51

Firstly it is to not be so precious about things To be willing to change plans or ideas as they develop I’ve found it hard to let things go but I’ve realised ideas can come around for a beCer purpose in the future

52

I’ve learnt how Important it is to take >me to appreciate things in life But s>ll need to learn to put into prac>ce To forget technology and be present in the moment and enjoy it rather then facebooking it

53

Some>mes you have to break the rules to get something different I need to go beyond the limits and not play it safe, you can always rein in back in if it’s to much

54

Try everything once because you don’t know unless you try Even if it doesn’t make sense at the >me, it could be invaluable later on

55

Don’t have regrets – even if they look this bad Because you learn from all your mistakes and learn never to get your hair braided again

56

Do the unexpected – choose the answer to the brief that’s unexpected as your more likely to win it because you’ll be offering something different that they’ve not seen before

57

Overall the whole thing has been a bumpy ride, some>mes there were days which were a pain in the ass but when they were

58

A trip to brudenell would solve anything

59

The end is nigh and I’m really sad to say goodbye Wish you all the best of luck in the future, whatever you do

60

Its been an honour being part of this class

61

And i can’t wait to celebrate gradua>ng with you all

62

63

peace
