teeped in history, the iconic Lews Castle has been a centre of activity and intrigue since the early 19th century. Overlooking Stornoway harbour, the impressive gothic-revival style castle was built in the mid 1800’s by Sir James Matheson, a rich merchant who also developed the surrounding area into picturesque woodlands. Since then this beautiful building has also served as a hospital during the Second World War, a college and a school and now as an iconic events venue and luxurious holiday destination with Natural Retreats. GETTING HERE Set on the stunning Isle of Lewis’ coastline, Lews Castle boasts unforgettable views over Stornoway Harbour and beyond. Situated on the outskirts of Stornoway, we’re just 10 minutes walk or 5 minutes drive from the harbour. Alternatively, we’re a 20 minute drive from Stornoway Airport down the A866, with direct flights from Inverness, Glasgow Intl. and Edinburgh. Stornoway can also be accessed from mainland Scotland via ferry at Ullapool. This impressive setting is the perfect retreat to recharge the soul and inspire the mind.
