BUAICPHOINTÍ FLEADH FEIRSTE/HIGHLIGHTS AMHARCLANN SHIOBHÁN MHIC CIONNAITH

ÍDE NA TINE: TIONSCADAL JONI MITCHELL SWEET FIRE: THE JONI MITCHELL PROJECT TICÉID/TICKETS £8/6 DÉARDAOIN, 1 NOLLAIG 8.30IN THURSDAY, 1 DECEMBER, 8.30PM

Duine de na cumadóirí amhrán is mó dá raibh riamh ann í Joni Mitchell, dar le Rolling Stone. Sna liricí sárfhileata aici, pléitear téamaí an ghrá – an tnúth, an cumha, an ríméad, an domlas - chomh maith le ceisteanna móra sóisialta agus timpeallachta. Cuimsíonn a stíleanna ceoil an ceol tíre fuaimiúil, ceol rithim agus gormacha, popcheol agus turgnaimh chasta snagcheoil. Léireoidh Tionscadal Joni Mitchell an chuid is fearr dá cuid amhrán ó Big Yellow Taxi, Woodstock is Both Sides Now go dtí The Jungle Line agus God Must Be a Boogie Man. Is iad na filí Liam Ó Muirthile agus Gabriel Rosenstock a chuir Gaeilge bhinn bhlasta i mbéal Joni agus is í Caitríona O’Leary a chanfaidh. I dteannta Chaitríona beidh Dick Farrelly (giotáir), Nick Roth (sacs), Dave Redmond (dord) agus Graham Hopkins (drumaí). Teilgfidh Margaret Lonergan na liricí ar scáileán móide íomhánna draíochtúla. Joni Mitchell has been described by Rolling Stone as ‘one of the greatest songwriters ever’. Her intensely poetic lyrics probe romantic themes of longing, joy and disillusion, as well as social and environmental concerns. Her music ranges from acoustic folk, rhythm and blues, and pop to harmonically complex jazz experiments. Sweet Fire: The Joni Mitchell Project features the very best of Mitchell’s songs – from ‘Big Yellow Taxi’, ‘Woodstock’ and ‘Both Sides Now’ to ‘The Jungle Line’ and ‘God Must Be a Boogie Man’. Translated into exquisite Irish by poets Liam Ó Muirthile and Gabriel Rosenstock, they will be performed by singer Caitríona O’Leary. She will be accompanied by Dick Farrelly (guitars), Nick Roth (saxophone), Dave Redmond (bass) and Graham Hopkins (drums). Margaret Lonergan has created stunning screen projections of the lyrics.

Agus níos mó suime ná riamh anois i gcoimicí agus in úrscéil ghrafacha, tá Aodán chun ceardlann a thabhairt do dhaoine ar spéis leo an cineál seo litríochta. Aidan Courtney started as a cartoonist with the Irish language daily newspaper, Lá, and has since published his own acclaimed Coimicí Gaeilge, Rí Rá and Ruaille Buaille. In this workshop he sets a challenge for school children to draw their own comic as Gaeilge and guides them as they encounter the challenges that arise.

Chuige sin táimid ag beartú feachtas aclaíochta ‘An Buaiteoir Is Mó’ a chur ar siúl chun sinn a spreagadh le bheith níos sláintiúla agus níos aclaí agus b’fhéidir roinnt meáchain a chailliúint. SCENES FROM THE WEST BANK

TAISPEÁNTAS LE/ EXHIBITON BY FIDELMA BONASS 19 EANAIR/JANUARY 2017 AG OSCAILT AR 7IN/PM 19/01/17 SNA BALLAÍ BÁNA

Is oibrí pobail i mBaile Átha Cliath í Fidelma Bonass agus tá sí ag taisteal go dtí an Bruach Thiar le deich mbliana. Tugann sí cúnamh don phobal faoi léigear ansin. Is iad seo na grianghraif a ghlac sí le linn a turas agus tugann siad léargas ar chruatan an tsaoil ar an Bhruach Thiar agus ar spiorad dochloíte an phobail. Beidh an taispeántas ar siúl go dtí 25 Feabhra. Scaip an scéal… Dublin community worker Fidelma Bonass has been travelling to the West Bank in Palestine for the past ten years. This is a collection of photographs from her travels to help besieged Palestinians. 2016 is the 10th anniversary of Fidelma’s trips to the West Bank. She is exhibiting some of her West Bank photos (taken over the years) to show a decade of solidarity with the people of the West Bank. The exhibition opens in Na Ballaí Bána in the Cultúrlann on 19 January and runs until 25 February. Spread the word….

TAISPEÁNTAS DANIEL DOWLING VIA DE PLATA, CAMINO DE SANTIAGO DÉARDAOIN, 1 NOLLAIG 7IN THURSDAY, 1 DECEMBER 7PM DÁNLANN DILLON/DILLON GALLERY Taispeántas é seo leis an ealaíontóir ó thuaisceart Bhéal Feirste a fhaigheann an spreagadh ó shiúlóid a rinne sé ar an Camino de Santiago. Creideann an t-ealaíontóir ina shaothar an oiread sin gurb é tús agus deireadh a shaoil é, ar shlí. Níos túisce i mbliana chaith sé sé seachtaine ag siúl an Via de Plata, cúrsa 1000km ó Sevilla i ndeisceart na Spáinne go dtí Santiago de Compostela ó thuaidh. Theastaigh uaidh na naisc ársa idir na Ceiltigh agus an Spáinn a fhiosrú. Chuir sé aithne ar an chathair réamh-Rómhánach Tartessos, cathair le stair shaibhir Cheilteach. Is ionann is cinnte gur labhraíodh Gaeilge de chineál éigin sa lonnaíocht seo idir Sevilla agus Huelva san aimsir ársa fadó. An exhibition by North Belfast artist Daniel Dowling which draws inspiration from the world famous Camino de Santiago. Dan has always believed in living his art and he is currently attempting to unite the many disparate aspects of his existence through his work - painting, travelling, walking, Irish language and culture, Spanish language and culture, blogging and using social media as an art form. This year, 2016, he spent six weeks walking the Via de Plata, a 1000 kilometre pilgrimage route, from Seville in southern Spain to Santiago de Compostela in the north. Initially, he wanted to explore ancient Celtic/Spanish connections. He was well aware of the pre-Roman and fabulously rich Celtic city of Tartessos, located between Seville and Huelva, and where almost certainly a form of Irish was spoken.

IDIR SINNE AGUS AN NÁDÚR TAISPEÁNTAS LE DAVID FOX, DÁNLANN DILLON

BETWEEN US AND NATURE EXHIBITION BY DAVID FOX, GERARD DILLON GALLERY

19 EANÁIR GO DTÍ 24 FEABHRA 2017/ 19 JANUARY - 24 FEBRUARY Téama i saothar an ealaíontóra ná na struchtúir daonna agus eilimintí ailtireachta a thagann idir sinne agus an nádúr. Ba mhaith leis a thuilleadh fócais a dhíriú ar an gcoincheap de thógáil daonna agus é ag aithint a leithéid ina phéinteireacht, go h-áirithe nuair a ghearrann siad an tírdhreach agus nuair is constaic iad ar ár radharc ar an ndomhan mhór. Ealaíontóir é David Fox atá tar éis a shaothar a chur ar thaispeántas go h-idirnáisiúnta agus ar fud na tíre seo. Seo é a chéad taispeántas i nDánlann Dillon cé go bhfuil sé ina chónaí i ngiorracht don bhfoirgneamh. ‘The obstruction of the natural world caused by human constructs and man-made architectural elements are common themes in Fox’s work. The artist seeks to push further the notion of human construction by focusing on the ‘man made’ objects witnessed within his paintings, that tend to cut through the landscape and obstruct the natural world’. David Fox is both living and working in Belfast at Creative Exchange Artist Studios, since completing an MFA (Masters in Fine Art), at the University of Ulster in 2013. He has exhibited throughout Ireland and internationally and this is his first exhibition in the Dillon Gallery.
