The Fadgies were native Irish speakers from Omeath who moved to Belfast in the 19th century working as fish and fruit sellers. They settled in Smithfield and created Belfast’s first Urban Gaeltacht, later moving to the Falls Rd where many of their descendants settled in what is now the city’s Gaeltacht Quarter. This is a 30min site-specific performance in a typical terrace house frthe 19th Century. Numbers are limited to 10. Meet at the Cultúrlann, 216 Falls Rd and you’ll be guided to the venue within a short walking distance. Come in for a‘cupán tae’and let us tell you a story or two! It’s a great privilege for the Cultúrlann to welcome an ensemble from the Ulster Orchestra to our venue during Féile an Phobail 2016. They will play a selection of works from classical and contemporary composers. During the concert they will be joined by the Cultúrlann’s traditional musicians for a ‘battle of the bands’. Sparks should fly and a special night of music is promised.
I've just published 'Grandpa the Sniper,' a memoir/biography about my grandfather (and namesake). Originally from Ballaghaderreen, Co Roscommon he and his brother Jack took part in the Easter Rising and was heavily involved in the War of Independence over the next five years. Neither brother took part in the Civil War.

IA special production of The Prodger, a play written by Tina Noonan about her grand uncle, Uncle John, who featured prominently in the stories she heard during her childhood. He was a Great War veteran, fought in the Battle of the Somme and was an amputee. The Prodger was the name which he gave to his wooden leg. Uncle John and his prodger enjoyed many adventures. Here’s your opportunity to enjoy them too!.

Tá réimse spleodrach imeachtaí - idir dramaíocht, ceol, ealaíon, plé agus eile - beartaithe ag an Chultúrlann le h-aghaidh an Fhéile. Seo am chlár don Fhéile sa Chultúrlann. Sa chéad dul síós beimíd ag tosnú lá luath. Féile an Phobail is almost upon us and as usual An Chultúrlann will be a hive of festival activity. This year the West Belfast Festival - Belfast and Europe's best community festival - takes place from 4-14 August. We have planned an exciting range of events and activities at the Cultúrlann - including drama, music, art, discussion and more. Colin Maxwell, artist and architect, presents us with a series of works which offer new perspectives on historical sites, casting the likes of Long Kesh Prison/Internment Camp in an unexpected new light.
An Stair Trí Mo Lionsa Na Ballaí Bána: 7.30in/pm Griangrafadóir atá ag obair leis An Phoblacht ar feadh na mblianta fada é Peadar Whelan, fear lionsa atá tar éis go leor de radharcanna stairiúla ár linne a chur i bhfráma a cheamra. Peadar Whelan has worked as a photographer of An Phoblacht for many years and has also been the editor of the newspaper. He has captured many historical scenes from his long career with his camera and in this exhibition he shares some of these with us.

A rehearsed reading of a newly written play about Roger Casement which is being performed on the centenary of the execution of this Irish patriot. It stars Ian McIlhenny of Game of Thrones fame.
