DID you know Cool Roofs offer us one of our most simple and effective global warming mitigation strategies? When you do the math, you find roof surfaces represent 20-25 per cent of the built environment and act as “solar radiators” – so much so that around 93 per cent of a building’s heat gain can be attributed to radiant energy (meaning the sun’s rays converted to heat after absorption). It makes sense then to employ a first line of defence that combats the specific heat source. That means reflecting the sun’s rays before they are absorbed and converted to heat. By contrast, insulation only treats the symptom of absorbed and stored heat. Cool Roofs reflect maximum amounts of the sun’s light energy and light is reflected as light, NOT heat and hence the effect of reducing the build up and storage of heat in urban environments. In Australia, most commercial buildings have zinc coated (Galv or Zincalume) roofing which act as poor reflectors of solar energy. By reflecting more of the sun’s energy these surfaces can be 20-40°C cooler, translating into cooler occupancy zones, lowering cooling energy demand and thus delivering cost and energy emission savings. Dulux® InfraCOOL® HEAT REFLECTIVE COATINGS optimise the Total Solar Reflection of a treated surface providing the opportunity to upgrade existing roof surfaces and create more sustainable structures. InfraCOOL Technology means surfaces reflect both the visible or “coloured” light and invisible infrared light which

It doesn’t have to be WHITE to be COOL… Because InfraCOOL Technology maximises reflection of infrared radiation, even dark colours can be made cooler. Create Raised Floors Externally A Belgian innovation, the award winning Buzon Pedestal offers the flexibility of creating raised floors in external applications on balconies, terraces and green roofs in conjunction with any type of paver or timber decking. In the instance of a leak, this allows for the easy removal of either the pavers or timber decking, making it easy to inspect the waterproofing membrane and investigate the source of the leak. Once the membrane has been repaired and the leak addressed, the pavers or timber decking can be reinstated with minimal effort. Made from high strength, UV resistant, recycled polypropylene, the pedestals are capable of supporting over 1,000 kg each. Height adjustability of between 17 mm-850 mm allows unsightly plumbing and electrical services to be concealed under the floor. A key benefit of the innovation is the patented slope-correcting device, which compensates for a substrate fall of up to five per cent achieving a perfectly level floor finish. Interchangeable spacer tabs allow for 2,4.5,6,8, & 10mm gaps between pavers, providing positive drainage and allowing for external and internal floor finishes to be at the same level. The pedestal also reduces sound transmission and increases the thermal insulation of roofs. In addition it reduces weight loading by eliminating the use of sand and cement mortar beds.

Wood Composite Decking and Slat Screen Fencing CLEVERDECK is an environmentally sustainable, quality, solid wood composite decking supplied in six designer colours: Chocolate, Copper Bronze, Mahogany, Slate Grey, Saltbush and Walnut. ENVIROSLAT slat screen fencing and architectural boards are designed to complement the CleverDeck composite decking, being available in the same colours and finishes. The standard EnviroSlat fencing board is 70mm x 15mm x 4800mm; architectural boards are available in a number of different profiles and lengths. A rot resistant, timber look garden edging completes the EnviroSlat range.
AUSTRALIA’S original architectural entrance mat just keeps getting better. A feature of the Birrus range, for use in Airlocks and large entries, is the ability to create specific “lines of demarcation” within the body of the mat, as a traffic indicator for pedestrians to follow a preferred direction.
