Transfer Central The basics

State’s General Transfer Credit Guidelines

When you’re ready to get the ball rolling, check out Indiana State’s Transfer Central website at indstate.edu/transfer. It leads you step-by-step through the transfer process, including:

Only transfer credits earned in college-level courses (typically numbered 100 or higher) from an accredited institution will be assigned credit. Credit from nonaccredited institutions will not transfer.

• Use the course-by-course evaluation tool to see which credits will transfer. • See class options—both on-campus and online.

Transfer credit is assigned only for courses at the 100 level (or above) in which you have earned a grade of “C” or higher.

• Learn how to apply for financial aid and scholarships.

Transfer credit is available for military experience.

• Find the bachelor’s degree program of your dreams.

Generally, an equivalent number of credit hours are given.

What you’ll need to become a Sycamore:

Remedial, audited, or non-credit courses do not transfer. In some cases, credit may be transferable to Indiana State and count toward graduation, but may not be applied toward completion of your intended major.

• Be in good standing at your last accredited institution. • If you have earned fewer than 12 credit hours at previous institutions, your high school transcript must meet the requirements for freshmen admitted to Indiana State.

As much as 90 credit hours of total transfer credit will be accepted for transfer into a bachelor degree program; at least 30 credit hours must be completed through Indiana State to earn the bachelor degree.

• If you have earned more than 12 credit hours at a previous institution, only college transcripts are required.

Your grades (GPA) do not transfer except for the purpose of graduation honors.

• Earn at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA in your previous college studies. (Some programs, such as education and nursing, have additional or separate requirements.)

If you transfer a bachelor degree from an accredited U.S. institution, all of Indiana State’s Foundational Studies/ General Education requirements will be waived.

Transfer Planning Tool

Associate degrees grant students a waiver that applies to several of Indiana State’s Foundational Studies requirements.

Transferring to a new university can be an overwhelming process. Help is just a click away—the online Transfer Planning Tool analyzes where you’ve been and helps plan your path ahead.

All transfer tools and guidelines can be found at indstate.edu/transfer

indstate.edu/transfer/transfer-planning-tool

NOTE: These are general guidelines. Upon admission, advisors will review your transcripts and determine which credit transfers and which courses will be included in your program of study.

Partner institutions can mean maximum credit transfer!

• Sign up for emails and announcements that let you know current news, updated info and when to take the next step in your transfer process.

Indiana State is partnered with Ivy Tech Community College, Vincennes University, and many two-year colleges to help you get the most bang for your buck. These transfer plans allow you to start off earning your associate’s degree from a partnered institution, then switch over to finish up at State.
