Classic and Timeless Little Black Dress

“Some people think luxury is the opposite of poverty. It is not. It is the opposite of vulgarity. “

Coco Chanel

IN FASHION

The Chanel little black dress became a symbol of chic and sophisticated simplicity.

Since Coco Chanel introduced it in 1926, the little black dress has become the epitome of timeless fashion. It is the answer to every “What should I wear to...” question from cocktail parties to holiday parties.

The famous women wearing Coco Chanel Little Black Dress: Lady Diana and Marilyn Monroe

As a concept, the little black dress has even moved on to represent an ideal of a perfectly simple, yet sexy object. Some people think luxury is the opposite of poverty. It is not. It is the opposite of vulgarity. Coco Chanel All the famous innovations in fashion and design cannot outshine the fame of the single Chanel Little Black Dress. Coco Chanel introduced it in a time between the wars, when the bright colors, prints and heavy embroideries dominated the fashion.

Cocktail dress During the 1920s, newfound concepts of individuality and a repudiation of the Edwardian matronly ideal of respectable womanhood gave rise to the new phenomenon of the “Drinking Woman,” who dared to enjoy cocktails in mixed company . She emerged at private cocktail soirées and lounges, and the cocktail dress, as a short evening sheath with matching hat, shoes, and gloves was designated to accompany her.

The long-sleeved black dress, which was initially made for day in wool, and for evening in crepe, satin or velvet, shook up the world of fashion. Later appeared the other variations of a little black dress: short, sleeveless, in a pleated black chiffon, in black lace… In 1926 American Vogue named Coco Chanel black dress “a Ford”, meaning it’s simplicity and it’s potential for an enormous and long-lasting success. It was the little black dress of Chanel, that inspired the famous remark of her competitor Paul Poiret: “What has Chanel invented? De luxe poverty.” 38 indulgememagazine.com

Chanel cocktail dress The cocktail affair generally took place between six and eight P.M., yet by manipulating one’s accessories, the cocktail ensemble could be converted to appropriate dress for every event from three o’clock until late in the evening. Cocktail garb, by virtue of its flexibility and functionality, became the 1920s uniform for the progressive fashionable elite. Birth of the Cocktail Ensemble By the end of World War I, the French couture depended rather heavily on American clientele and to an even greater extent on American department stores that copied and promoted the French créateurs. As cocktailing had originated in the United States, the French paid less attention to the strict designations of line, cut, and length that American periodicals promoted for their heure de l’aperitif. Instead, the couturières Chanel and Vionnet created garments for the late afternoon, or “after five,” including beach pajamas—silk top and palazzo pant outfits worn with a mid-calf-length wrap jacket.

Louise Boulanger produced les robes du studio, chic but rather informal sheaths that suited the hostess of private or intimate cocktail gatherings.

As the popularity of travel grew, both in American resort cities like Palm Beach, “the Millionaire’s Playground,” and abroad with the luxury of the Riviera, these French cocktail garments gained favor in wealthy American circles. But while America’s elite were promoting the exclusive designs of the French couture, the majority of the United States relied on the advertisements of Vanity Fair and American Vogue, as well as their patronage of American department stores to dress for the cocktail hour. Created by Chanel in 1926, the little black dress was translated to ready-to-wear as a staple of late afternoon and cocktail hours; American women at every level of consumption knew the importance of a practical “Well-mannered Black”. Mid-1920s skirt lengths were just below the knee for all hours and affairs. Though cocktail attire featured the longer sleeves, modest necklines, and sparse ornamentation of daytime clothing, it became distinguished by executions in evening silk failles or satins, rather than wool crepes or gabardines. Often the only difference between a day dress and a cocktail outfit was a fabric noir and a stylish cocktail hat. Hats in the 1920s varied little from the cloche shape, but cocktail and evening models were adorned with plumes, rhinestones, and beaded embroideries that indicated a more formal aesthetic. Short gloves were worn universally for cocktail attire during this period and could be found in many colors, though white and black were the most popular. INDULGE | Winter Edition 39

4 Latest Luxury Brand Experiences

C

Chanel, Burberry, YSL ustomised service and out-of-the-box experiences which excite are the future of luxury. These are some of the brands leading the way with innovation this month.

What are the successful luxury brands doing to connect with consumers at a personal level? And why are people – particularly Millennials – looking for brands to offer much more than the physical goods themselves? These are the big questions that companies are having to ask right now, for fear of getting caught left behind. We’ve taken a look at a few recent examples where brands have taken initiative in this space, and innovated smartly to enhance the relationships they hold with their customers.

“Wealthy consumers have high expectations when it comes to the retail experience.” 40 indulgememagazine.com

Heightened Exclusivity – YSL Luxury brands are more accessible than ever. Today’s high-net-worth individuals are pursuing that extra level of service and access to maintain their connection with a luxury brand.

Social Access Points – Michael Kors Social networking habits of Millennials are forcing luxury brands to reconsider the way they connect and inspire the next generation of big spenders.

Take Saint Laurent Paris for example. The French fashion label is amplifying its exclusivity even further by creating a unique couture line for its most elite shopper. The one-of-a-kind garments will be created by YSL’s Creative Director, Hedi Slimane, who will produce the handmade items only for people he approves of and friends of the house. That’s taking the exclusivity of couture to another level.

Michael Kors is tapping into this market for its consumers in Asia via its new social media application WeChat. Designed to combine both online and offline, the app offers digital customer service that can be used at home and in-store – delivering a fully customised experience.

Fashionable Food – Burberry Wealthy consumers have high expectations when it comes to the retail experience – whether it’s a champagne private viewing or an appointment with a personal shopper. So why stop there?

Taking A Chance With Instagram – Chanel Chanel is using the sharing power of Instagram in a new marketing effort for its Chance fragrance collection. The brand has created 12 GIFs representing the astrological signs, with each featuring various zodiac signifiers surrounding a bottle of Chance.

We’re seeing more and more luxury brands offering a complete retail experience by opening up in-store eateries. After all, a luxurious bite to eat after a day of shopping does go hand-in-hand. And with nearly 90% of High-Net-Worth purchases still taking place in-store, it’s an opportunity not to be missed.

By asking consumers what astrological sign they are through the #TakeYourChance hashtag, Chanel can serve up the GIF that’s directly related to then. The campaign cleverly connects to consumers on a personal level, and is especially relevant to the young aspirational demographic.

A brand doing just that is Burberry, which has recently opened it’s ‘Thomas’ café inside it’s Regent Street store. Earlier this week, the British luxury leader also became the first luxury brand to launch an Apple Music channel.

Additionally, many consumers, especially those in Asia, rely heavily on their signs to predict life events, which further enhances the relationship between them and the scent. INDULGE | Winter Edition 41

These are pieces of jewelry which take to the catwalk as if they were ball gowns,

Archi Dior

said Christian Dior

“Archi Dior”, the totally Dior spirit, inspired Victoire de Castellane’s latest High Jewellery collection. The designer explained, “I wanted to create each piece just like the dresses Christian Dior designed with an architect’s eye, as if the jewels were sculpted, flounced, pleated, belted, or draped fabrics.” Thus it is that every piece in the Archi Dior collection has borrowed the name of an iconic line or gown, translating the very distinctive movements of the materials into the language of High Jewellery. Each piece is a construction, a precious edifice assembled stone by stone in the Dior workshops in Paris.

The Corolle line presented by Christian Dior at his very first fashion show on 12 February 1947 inspires these creations, and it is they that open the jewellery ball. As sumptuous as Haute Couture gowns, they first appear full of scrolls of diamonds and emeralds, then superimposed as pink skirts, followed by the Bar cuff-links and ring, a precious homage to Dior’s iconic New Look ‘Bar’ suit. Throughout this jewellery fashion show, from the exuberant volumes of Zig-Zag to the staccato drapes of a diamond in the Envol ring, from the whirlwind of the multi-coloured stones of Ailée, conjuring up “the pleats of a dress which move around the waist”, to the geometric lines of Trompe L’oeil, Victoire de Castellane transforms fabric into precious stones and High Fashion into High Jewellery. CHANEL’S iconic N°5 Fragrance

A

head of the end-of-the-year holidays, French brand Chanel has decided to release its iconic N°5 fragrance in a new takeaway sized flacon.

The elixirs themselves remain unchanged. N°5 Eau de Parfum opens on notes of May rose and jasmine, associated with Hesperides accords and notes of vanilla.

Smaller, perfectly travel-sized and ideal for occasion’s onthe-go, the new bottle format of the emblematic Chanel fragrance fits easily into any handbag or clutch. Two scents have been chosen for the new 35 ml bottle that is shaped in the original mythical design of Chanel’s N°5 fragrance: the N°5 Eau de Partum and the N°5 Eau Première.

The N°5 Eau Première combines notes of ylang-ylang from the Comoro Islands with May rose and jasmine, with an added dose of aldehydes, vanilla and musk accords. The purse-sized fragrance is available this season in boutiques and select retailers. INDULGE | Winter Edition 47

Tom Ford Noir will be the third fragrance for men in the brand’s Signature collection, after 2007′s Tom Ford for Men and 2009′s Grey Vetiver.

Writing instruments and calligraphy lie at the heart of Montblanc’s DNA.

These elements were a source of inspiration for the design of a new limited edition fragrance called Montblanc Legend Calligraphy. For the special edition, the Montblanc label chose to decorate the bottle of its iconic men’s fragrance with a cursive English-style typography, drawn in white letters on a dark background. The design of this collector’s bottle features three bands, a signature motif important to the luxury brand. 48 indulgememagazine.com

Resembling a signature as if handwritten, the word “Montblanc” in round and arabesque letters is drawn onto the bottle. Inside, the original fragrance remains unchanged. Created by Olivier Pescheux, master perfumer of scents like Lanvin Arpège Pour Homme, 1 Million by Paco Rabanne and Balmain Homme, the fragrance opens on notes of bergamot, exotic verbena, lavender and pineapple leaves associated with jasmine accords, white cedar and rose. he base combines oakmoss notes, sandalwood and tonka seed.

INDULGE… THEN ELIMINATE THE BULDGE he holiday season… friends, family and the food! You try to be good, show restraint, but it’s overwhelming. It seems harder and harder to eliminate the bulges that appear even after minor indiscretions. Working out and dieting helps, but they don’t target the specific problem areas.

Now there is help. Staten Island Plastic Surgeon, John W. Decorato, M.D. has been instrumental in the development of a new laser device with Cynosure, an aesthetic laser company based in Massachusetts. This new non-invasive laser, SculpSure, performs a 25 minute treatment at the site of a fatty bulge. Within 2 months, the treated fat melts away. The treatment is not painful, with only the sensation of warmth to the treatment site, and requires no downtime or post-treatment therapy.

20 to 25% reduction in the number of fat cells in the treatment area“ states Dr. Decorato. “The patient undergoes the treatment and returns to their normal routine since this is a non-surgical treatment. Due to the innovative : design, multiple sites can be treated in one sitting”. “I am very pleased that the results of this research project was so successful and that patients are happy with the outcome of their treatments” says Dr. Decorato. “It is very gratifying to know that this work will help people rid themselves of some excess fat without the need for surgery”. Knowing that this type of technology is available may lessen some of guilt over the holiday celebrations.

Sculpsure is the first FDA approved laser device for non-invasive treatment of fat excess of the abdomen and flanks. According to Dr. Decorato, the fat cells, known as adipocytes, are injured during the laser treatment. The injured cells are recognized by the body’s immune system and those injured fat cells are permanently removed from the body. There is no rise in cholesterol or lipid levels as the removal of the injured fat cells is a very gradual process.

John W. Decorato, MD, FACS

Patient satisfaction with the procedure is very high from both the comfort level of the procedure and reduction in fat in the treated site. “There is a

he oat (Avena sativa), is a species of cereal grain grown for its seed, also called oat(s). While oats are suitable for human consumption as oatmeal or in baked goods, one of the most common uses is as livestock feed. The oldest oat grains were found in Egypt about 2000 BC. Oats were introduced to North America at the beginning of the 17th century. Colloidal oatmeal has a long history of beneficial use in skincare. It is a natural ingredient that has an excellent safety record and has demonstrated efficacy for the treatment of atopic dermatitis (AD), psoriasis, drug-induced rash and other skin conditions. Recent studies showed that oatmeal-containing personal care products had very low irritant potential as well as a very low allergenic sensitization potential. In 2003, the US FDA approved colloidal oatmeal as a skin monograph ingredient for the temporary protection and relief of minor skin irritation and itching. Colloidal oatmeal, made by finely milling dehulled oats to a powder, contains a concentrated starch-protein fraction of the oat grain. Colloidal oatmeal contains starch (65-85%), proteins (15-20%), lipids (311%), fiber (5%) and beta-glucans (5%). This lipid content is much higher than in other cereal grains, with unsaturated triglycerides, being the most abundant lipids. Colloidal oatmeal can also act as a skin buffer, restoring the normal pH of the skin. The phenolic compounds avenanthramides, ferulic and caffeic acids (and others) in oat flour have antioxidant activity and protect the lipids from oxidation. Avenanthramides also possess anti-inflammatory and anti-itching properties. Saponins are also present in oats and have a soap-like action, making oats a beneficial additive in cleansers and soap making. 54 indulgememagazine.com

Beta-D-glucan (a polysaccharide) binds water, forming a film that functions to hold moisture in the outermost layer of skin. Alpha-tocopherol, also present in oats, exhibits anti-inflammatory and anti-photodamage effects. These qualities make oats a useful antioxidant additive in sunscreens and other sun-care products. Moisturizers that soothe itching, hydrate, protect and restore the skin barrier provide an essential function in the management of the skin ailment known as atopic dermatitis (AD). They may be the first line of defense in mild cases or with more severe instances, may complement prescription medications to help reduce the use of common steroidal treatments. Some patients on chemotherapy can develop skin issues such as rashes or sores, which can interrupt the continuation of their treatment until the skin has healed. In a study of 10 patients, treatment with an oat-infused lotion resulted in a complete clearing of the skin in 6 patients and a partial response in the remainder. Studies have continually shown that Avena sativa based products significantly decrease skin dryness, itch and irritation, improving quality of life in those with mild to severe dermatitis. While these facts and studies are useful for formulators, it is also important to remember that using these claims as outlined in the FDA monograph does classify your product as an Over The Counter (OTC) drug. To avoid your product being classified as misbranded, these claims should be avoided or your product should comply with current FDA guidelines for OTC monographs including special labeling guidelines for Over The Counter drug products.

IN BEAUTY

9 STEPS TO WINTERIZE YOUR SKIN “Now is the winter of our discontent.” With regard to our complexions Shakespeare’s words seem to ring truer than ever. The biting wind and frigid temperatures outside, coupled with heavy, dry indoor heating, are a perilous cocktail for the skin. It’s one that not even Hollywood is exempt from (the cold of Sundance Film Festival is looming, after all). And just as we dutifully shift our wardrobes with the passing of the seasons — swapping the flimsy summer dresses for weightier knits — so should we pay the same scrupulous attention to crafting a beauty regimen that is seasonally appropriate. And that applies to both skin care and makeup. Here, we offer an INDULGE approved prescription (and, of course, a suggested product arsenal to accompany it) for combatting a beauty-related seasonal disorder.

1. THE CLEANSER

2. THE OIL

3. THE MOISTURIZER

4. THE EYE CREAM

Because skin is particularly vulnerable to the moisture-zapping effects of cold weather and indoor heating, cleansing should be a thoroughly gentle affair. Shelf all foams and gels for the time being in favor of a milky or balm variety. This dense balm is TLC in cleanser form; gingerly massaged into the skin (never, ever with too-hot water!) it will decongest and smooth without drying. Eve Lom Cleanser

The sun casts a powerful glare, even in the winter months, which means a day should not go by without some kind of protection. This moisturizer has a luxurious texture and feel against the skin, an adequate dose of daily SPF to shield against UVA and UVB rays, and a formula that has the added boon of boosting collagen and brightening. La Prairie Anti-Aging Day Cream Spf 30

56 indulgememagazine.com

Though the complexion can benefit from oil year-round, in the winter months it will be especially grateful for the extra capillary-shielding barrier it provides. That Rodin’s deeply nourishing essential-oil blend — neroli, rose hip, sweet almond, argan, jasmine and evening primrose, among others — smells heavenly makes it that much easier to remember to apply. Use just at night or beneath moisturizer during the day if your skin is especially parched. Rodin Luxury Face Oil

The delicate skin around the eyes is more susceptible than ever when the temperature drops, becoming prone to extra dryness. Count on La Mer to never disappoint — as intensely replenishing as their cult-favorite moisturizer, this eye cream instantly soothes and illuminates. Use it morning, evening and whenever inspiration strikes in between. La Mer The Eye Concentrate

5. THE BALM

In Greek mythology the rose was associated with secrecy, and the Latin phrase sub rosa (under the rose) means something that is carried out in a confidential manner. And a special secret By Terry’s rose-infused treatment most certainly is: The rich, fragrant balm moisturizes and protects both lips and cuticles — exactly how? We cannot be sure. We suggest keeping one in your purse and one bedside. Terry Baume De Rose

6. THE MASK

Swaddling your face in the cocoon of these individual cotton masks drenched with SK-II’s proprietary youth-enhancing Pitera for about 10 minutes’ time has a moth-to-butterfly effect. As ready for travel as they are for home use, they stave off winter’s bone as efficiently as they do the effects of jet lag. Sk-Ii Facial Treatment Mask

7. THE EYE MAKEUP

With winter comes waterworks; forceful wind and freezing temperatures can leave eyes in a perpetual state of tearing up. To keep makeup intact, switch — at least for the season — to a waterproof mascara and eyeliner. Dior Diorshow Waterproof Mascara Catwalk Black

8. THE BRONZER

Winter, because of the accompanying extra time spent ensconced indoors, tends to zap the skin of some of that natural pigment and glow. Consider this featherweight bronzer a touch of summer in compact form. Swipe across the cheekbones and everywhere the sun would naturally hit for an all-over, warm glow. Tom Ford Bronzing Powder Terra

9. THE BLUSH

Blush is the makeup version of magic, in possession of an abracadabra effect on any and every complexion. And when winter’s pallor is upon us, blush — this one imparts that just-right natural, but slightly better, flush — feels more magical than ever. A few generous swipes, and poof — gone are the dull and dreary. Laura Mercier Crème Cheek Colour Blaze

d o o w y l l o H Glamour Showcased at Giorgio Armani for Holiday 2015

T

he Italian fashion house, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, is playing the chic glamour card with its makeup line for the end-of-year holidays. The aim is a sophisticated allure, reminiscent of the legendary names of 1930s and 1940s cinema.

This two-level palette contains ten matte/shimmer eye shadows in shades ranging from gold to jet black and including metallic and beige tones. This gives the option of a subtle look during the day and maximum glamour in the evening.

Marlene Dietrich, Jean Harlow and Rita Hayworth: these Hollywood icons of the 1930s and 1940s, with their luminous eyes and clear complexion, have been the inspiration behind Giorgio Armani Beauty’s makeup line for Christmas 2015.

There is a second level hidden below these eyeshadows, which is all about the complexion. A pressed power can be used to matify, and two shades of cream-in-a-compact foundation can be used for sculpting and enhancing the complexion by covering any imperfections. The box also includes two brushes and two sponges.

This is a chance to immerse yourself for the holiday season in the sophisticated aesthetic of those high-glamour years. The design house is offering a limited edition for eyes and complexion, and new shades for two of its star products. A “Luxe is More” look and a silky complexion Giorgio Armani has unveiled the “Luxe is More” palette for the complexion and the eyes. Its oversize format and golden shades are inspired by the cozy boudoirs of the 1930s.

Pearly tones and luminosity for a glamorous allure Two of the brand’s star products -- the Eye Tint fluid eyeshadow and the Lip Maestro lip lacquer -- will be available in new shades for this special holiday season collection. The former’s formulation is enriched with “Mirage Bright Silver” shimmer to give a silvery effect (in “shadow”, “gold ashes” and “silver mirage”), and the latter’s has been enhanced by “Fire Spectral” pearls to give it a matte and luminous finish (in “boudoir”, “pearly nude” and “ruby nude”).

IN COVER

Jacques Torres By Barbara Strafella & Ashley Perry

J

IN COVER acques Torres, world-famous chocolatier, has seemingly earned the name “Mr. Chocolate,” and for a very good reason.

After 40 years of mastering the art of pastry and being the youngest to receive the prestigious Meilleur Ouvrier de France award, Jacques wanted to master something new…owning his own business. Why in chocolate, you may ask? Although Jacques has many passions, his “love for chocolate won.” He opened his first Jacques Torres location in Dumbo, Brooklyn in 2000. He chose to use his own name for the store so that he could represent his chocolate on a personal level. His passion is prevalent in the products he has on his shelves. Jacques emphasizes the importance of talking to his customers and listening to them. If you pop into one of his shops, you may see him conversing with customers and suggesting a gourmet chocolate that fulfills their craving. He mingles with his customers to learn what they want. One day, Jacques was behind the counter watching a young mother calming her crying child with something unfamiliar to Jacques. He asked what it was and the mother responded a Cheerio, everyone loves Cheerios. He thought to himself, if people love Cheerios, why not cover them in chocolate? Walk into any Jacques Torres store today, and you will find his popular chocolate covered Cheerios. Alongside these irresistible treats, you will find delectable bon bons and cookies, which Jacques considers to be some of his specialties. However, our favorite is the warm, rich hot chocolate. Jacques hot chocolate is like no other, due to the fact that its not just powdered cocao; it is literally melted chocolate. Jacques offers classic hot chocolate as well as the “wicked” hot chocolate, which has a touch of spice for the adventurous chocolatiers. Although you think you’re coming for one of these classic desserts, you may be surprised to find croque monsieur’s. These meltin-your-mouth, classic French sandwiches are made in-house and are perfect for sharing, so that you have room for dessert! All of Jacques delicious chocolates are made from real, wholesome ingredients. As a child growing in Provence, France, Jacques fondly remembers the freshness of farm-to-table food, and successfully incorporates that quality into his products today. Jacques prides himself on the fact that there are no fake fillers, flavorings, or compounds in any of his products. He only uses real cocao, real fruit, and real nuts in order to make the famous gourmet chocolates. As Jacques states, “there is no compromising, all ingredients are real and that is why the real flavors come through.” “Mr. Chocolate” uses these fresh ingredients to make his chocolate right here in NYC. His factory is located in Brooklyn, and his 9 shops are located throughout the city. Wrapped up in a candy box is the passion, the flavor, and the artistry of “Mr. Chocolate” himself, Jacques Torres. Editor’s Note: As chocolate lovers we hand pick the best fine chocolates that allow you to indulge. The Continental Miami

Max’s Social House

Philadelphia meets Miami in Stephen Starr’s latest South Florida project, an ode to its twenty-year-old namesake predecessor, a staple in Starr’s hometown. The Continental Miami opened its doors just this month with Executive Chef Matthew Oetting at the helm, serving up iconic menu classics from “build-your-own sushi” to inventive crudité and arguably one of the city’s best burgers, flanked by a meticulous drink menu channeling the retro feel of the semi-outdoor eatery. The 225-seat space, designed by Shawn Hausman, pays homage (albeit modernized) to the glamour of eras past, complete with neon and formica. NYC Dining | The Season’s Hautest Openings

A

h, NYC: the epicenter of the hottest dining experiences in the country (and perhaps the world, we daresay). But if there’s one thing Manhattanites struggle to keep up with, it’s the constant rotation of restaurants that make the food scene here so vibrant. Restaurants and bars shutter just as quickly as they open – it’s exhausting, frankly. With brand new and classic New York juxtaposed in every crevice of the city, it’s nearly impossible to decide what’s worth trying, especially for the adventurous palate. This season is an exciting time for the epicurean New Yorker – we’ve got the best of the best in restaurant openings, from brasseries helmed by Michelin-starred chefs and Upper East Side chophouses free of pretentious vibes to the latest fast-casual health food spot with a consistent line out the door. Let’s just say we’re never short on choices.

Our roundup of the most high-profile openings featured an insider’s look at five of the best new restaurants across the NYC landscape. We’ve got the inside scoop on the charming rustic yet elegant American restaurant from former Waldorf Astoria chef John Doherty and George Mendes and his Michelin-starred team behind the newly redesigned Eventi Hotel’s cornerstone gem, busy serving a packed house every night and redefining to Midtown dining scene simultaneously. For those in the mood for something more casual, our friends at the latest health-conscious Greenwich Village spot that has both vegan and non-vegan diners fawning over cuisine suddenly made accessible to the masses. And don’t get us started on Major Food Group…let’s just say they’ve taken Jewish deli to a whole new level. Happy reading…and consider all appetites warned.

Sadelle’s

by CHLOE

Move over, corner deli. Major Food Group’s latest venture has caused a stir with its recent opening, bringing classic Jewish favorites to the notso-casual dining realm and serving up artisanal bagels to the discerning masses. Enter the sunken room that is Sadelle’s with its exposed brick, Edison bulbs, and warm atmosphere, proving far more accessible than the eatery’s predecessors (Carbone, Santina, Dirty French, et al). Behind the oven is Per Se and Roberta’s baker Melissa Weller, commandeering the kitchen with a vision of precision and finesse, an art boiled down to a science, the result in the form of a perfect bagel. Snag a table in the dining room and experience SoHo in slow motion with a tower of bagels and other signature specialties, or queue up at the bakery for a baked good on the go. Bonus: Sadelle’s offers gluten free bagels, so those with dietary restrictions can share the love. Get ‘em while they’re hot. 436 West Broadway between LaGuardia Place & Prince Street | 212.254.3000 sadelles.com

Meet vegan chef extraordinaire Chloe Coscarelli and Samantha Wasser of ESquared Hospitality, the dynamic duo behind the Greenwich Village’s latest vegan dining destination. There’s a reason the July opening has caused a stir amongst the vegan community, perhaps due to the quaint, airy 35-seat space with a contemporary edge, and of course, killer eats for the health-conscious foodie (vegan or otherwise). Diners with dietary restrictions need not fret; with an abundance of gluten-free, dairy free, and kosher options, there’s something for everyone on by CHLOE’s menu. Go for the classic burger (tempeh/lentil/chia/walnut burger to be exact) with all the bells and whistles atop a potato bun (gluten free also available). Pair with a side of sweet potato mac ‘n cheese with shiitake bacon or opt for air-baked fries -- it’s tough to go wrong here. No time for a sit-down? Pop in for a pick-me-up from by CHLOE’s cold-pressed juice bar or indulge in a scoop of dairy-free ice cream. 185 Bleecker Street between Sullivan & MacDougal Streets | 212.290.8000 bychefchloe.com

Black Barn

Gabriel Kreuther

An airy, spacious barn in the heart of Manhattan overlooking Madison Square Park? It’s officially a thing, thanks to 30 year Waldorf Astoria vet John Doherty and his team behind Black Barn. Modern American fare meets Chef Doherty’s classic approach to hospitality, coupling thoughtful cuisine with unexpected accents and a rustic vibe to boot. Low, wooden rafters give sky-high ceilings an approachable feel, mirroring Chef’s ability to do the same with his dishes, each unique in composition yet familiar on the palate all the while. The entrance leads to a casual lounge, a prelude to the main dining room, a symphony crescendoed by a quaint champagne and oyster bar dividing the two. Make the first stop here for an apéritif before the main act, moving on into the back room for a casually convivial dining experience on the main floor, or opt for Chef’s tasting flanking the very open kitchen. Private dining takes flight here with a beautifully appointed coterie of scattered spaces, from cabin-esque alcoves tucked around the dining space to a hidden loft overlooking the action - perfect for private parties or casual get-togethers taken up a notch. 19 East 26th Street between Broadway & Fifth Avenue | 212.265.5959 blackbarnrestaurant.com

Francophiles and foodies alike celebrate the valiant return of Michelinstarred chef Gabriel Kreuther, back in action after a two-year hiatus with the long awaited opening of his eponymous restaurant. The brand new crown jewel of the Grace Building pays homage to Kreuther’s Alsatian heritage, serving up northern French fare in both a prix fixe and a la carte format, available respectively in the dining room and lounge. A green onyx and steel-wrapped bar poses as an inviting centerpiece upon entry, canopied by a curved platinum ceiling -- an opulent gateway to the equally grand dining room, both the brainchildren of designer Glen Coben. Go for the 10-day cured Brandt beef tenderloin with razor clam vinaigrette and horseradish and sturgeon, followed by the sturgeon and kraut tart with American caviar mousseline and applewood smoke. Make way for round three of the tasting menu, featuring standout fish and meat dishes from lardo poached lobster with squid ink gnochetti, cockle ragoût, baby artichoke, and jamón emulsion to a spice-rubbed Mangalitsa pork collar and cheek with morcilla and roasted fennel. Special occasions call for Chef’s carte blanche, a guided tasting experience for the table curated by Chef himself. 41 West 42nd Street between Fifth & Sixth Avenues | 212.257.5826 gknyc.com

Lupulo Portuguese cuisine meets tapas-style in Chelsea newcomer Lupulo, the latest from George Mendes of Michelin-starred Aldea. Occupying the sprawling cornerstone space of the newly-revamped Eventi Hotel, our new favorite purveyor of Portuguese goodness boasts a robust menu of rich fare, from butterflied and charred organic piri piri chicken to octopus rice, red snapper crudo, and oh-so-much more. Pull up a seat at the U-shaped bar, the centrum of the rustic space, for front-row seats to the action in the semi-open kitchen, sipping a house cocktail or a tall brew from the hand-selected menu of beers on tap. Wine Making in Greece

thens has long been known for its history and gastronomic expertise, but the emerging importance of the local wine industry adds an exciting new dimension. Vintners are rediscovering indigenous grapes (like Assyrtiko, Moschofilero, Savatiano and Xinomavro), meaning that discerning wine connoisseurs are getting a whole lot more to sip than the usual international staples of Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. When visiting fine restaurants in Athens, there will always be a sommelier to guide you to wines that suit your flavor profile. For instance, Evangelos Psofidis, Head Sommelier of Hotel Grande Bretagne and the King George, has an extensive cellar featuring sought-after wines that include the Grand Cru Burgundy and Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. However, Psofidis is especially proud of his remarkably broad Greek wine list. Our seven-course, wine-paired Tudor Hall Dinner began with an Aegean sea bass tartare accompanied by the Amalia Brut sparkling

Moschofilero. I would compare the sparkler’s floral nose and finesse to some of the world’s most intriguing sparkling wines. Executive Chef Sotiris Evangelou crafted our main course of Corfu Sofrito (a mini veal fillet), which was paired with a 2008 Tsantali Rapsani Grand Reserve, a deep red, spicy blend of the Xinomavro, Krassato and Stavroto grapes. At the Electra Hotel’s Roof Garden Restaurant, Executive Chef Petros Kalevrosoglou and the maître d'hôtel Dimitris Kyrchanidis presented a five-course tasting menu which featured fillet of grouper paired with Ktima Avaton Gerovassiliou, a dark ruby red blend with a depth and spiciness to match the fennel and lemon cream sauce. A nest of kataifi (shredded fillo dough) with citrus marmalade and pistachio dessert completed our meal and was paired with Vinsanto Argyros, Santorini, a sun-dried dessert wine made with Assyrtiko, Athiri and Aidani grapes. Its creation and flavors are reminiscent of the famous Tuscan Vin Santo wines.

It’s not a coincidence that you can enjoy these elegant pairing menus while within sight of the Acropolis and Parthenon, both of which light up the night sky spectacularly. Surrounded by some of the most historic and architectural achievements in the world, the Electra Hotel, Grand Bretagne and the King George all feature convenient rooftop restaurants that offer the perfect setting for dinnertime selfies. The Wineroads of Athens trail in the Attica wine appellation is within easy reach of Athens. This group cultivates ancient vines and connects each winery with scattered archeological sites via a network of trails and routes. Close enough for a day trip, the Attica appellation has been nurturing grapes for more than 3,000 years. During our tour of the region, Vassilis Papagiannakos (owner and winemaker of Domaine Papagiannakos) guided us through his beautiful tasting room. Papagiannakos has won numerous Decanter magazine awards for his wines, including his exceptional oak-aged, citrusy white Savatiano wine and his deep red Agiorgitiko/Cabernet

Sauvignon blend with its complex aromas of black cherry, white pepper, vanilla and toast. Papagiannakos asked his fellow winemakers of the Wineroads of Athens to bring their own creations to his tasting room for our group’s convenience, which included bottles from Kokotou Winery, Anastasia Fragou Winery, Markou Vineyards and Mylonas Winery. Anna Kokotos presented Kokotou’s portfolio wines, including a dry rosé of Agiorgitiko with flavors and aromas of bright raspberry, strawberry and dried herbs reminiscent of a Provence-style wine. The next time you find yourself in Greece, maybe take a break from the standard Tuscany and Bordeaux jaunts to discover all that the country truly has to offer as the evolution of the indigenous grapes continues. Besides, if the god of the grape harvest, Dionysus, decided that Athens (historically encompassed by the Attica region) was a good place for his favorite vine, that’s more than good enough for us. THE

Marina Café THE MARINA CAFÉ where everyone knows the name - as it has captured the landscape at The Great Kills Marina for 35 years, proprietors SAM and JOYCE CORIGLIANO have welcomed the Community sharing in the memories throughout the years.

W

here does the time fly when you enjoy what you do? For the most part the creative part comes from passion to creating and the enjoyment of this well established restaurant. This fine dining experience has been enjoyed at The Marina Cafe for more then 35 years with remarkable events, traditions and day to day dining. In saying it can be said it is like a second home to Sam Corigliano along with his family, friends and patrons throughout the years. Looking back Hurricane Sandy struck the area and caused mass destruction on October 2012, boats where inside the restaurant. How do you start again after something so tragic but that did not stop Sam from rebuilding. It took time to process and re-think of the rebuild as it was more then three decades at that time. But how do you walk away? When speaking with Sam, his thoughts at first was to close this chapter and move forward just to walk away. Perhaps the writing was on the wall how do you put this back together? Like the saying, this ship has sailed time to move on and perhaps retire. The devastation of what happened was heartfelt and not something easily to let go. But his mind was unsettled and his family was in full support to continue the legacy. So with his heart still in it and his desire to keep The Marina Cafe back to form for old friends and new can rejoice and continue the legacy. In the new plans to rebuild The Marina Cafe, the original idea was to rebuilt to what it was. The sails of the nautical theme that belongs on the water. “But with a new vision to be on the cutting-edge and seasonal” as Sam puts it, “50 shades (saying it with a chuckle) was created to be the new concept.”

The restaurant is now finished in metallics and grays. “I call it 50 shades of gray. I tease them,” Sam Corigliano joked of the decoration. “To be honest, it’s not me, but they have the vision and after it was finished I can relate to it as well. The reality is wives usually tend to pick the restaurants, and the response has been great.” The 140 seat dining room with breathtaking views from windows overlooking the marina, with a larger bar built so that more clients could enjoy dinner offering additional flat screen TVs and the added touch of the fire-place glow. Candles on tables with floral arrangements and pillows fluffed for comfort. Sam Corigliano thoughts of the finished product, “Has a flair of California to the style of metropolitan New York.” So with the lightweight thoughts of retirement: Sam Corigliano is passing on his life long work of the be-known restaurant torch to his children. Despite supposedly slowing down at The Marina, Sam Corigliano still has a hand in the menu and you can still see him there with a smile. “My children’s skill is of personal knowledge of this business having grown up here and pitching in, makes my decision to take a step back from managing the restaurant and leaving it to the next generation, an easy one,” said Sam Corigliano. “It’s another year of indentured service for them,” joked Sam Corigliano. “I’m teaching them the ropes.” He’s thankful to his family, staff and for his patrons. “I’ve been in this business all my life,” said Sam Corigliano. “Any endeavor like this is not possible without quality employees.” One in particular we have seen here for many visits always greeted by General Manager Louis Capriotti. So with the thoughts of early retirement, is there such a word when you love what you do? Well there is always time to visit and share in the on going business when time is there. For now perhaps Sam Corigliano will make more plans perhaps for golfing. In the continued spirit of The Marina Cafe - it is business as usual and sounds of Sam touching on everything to be perfect.

We wish Sam and Joyce Corigliano and family, many years of continued success and more enjoyable trips.

Eiswein, The Sweet Winter Wine

ho ever said the grape harvest ends in October? The start of the year is the best time to pick the frozen grapes from which Eiswein (Ice Wine) is made

the Rhine river. In order to keep their livestock alive, residents decided not to pick all of the grapes during the harvest, leaving some on the vines so their animals could eat them during the winter months.

This German tradition of Eiswein has become more and more popular in the Nordic countries, as well as the cold regions of the U.S. and Canada. Some grapes live well beyond the autumn, hanging on to the vines well into winter and the first real frosts. These are the grapes used to produce Eiswein, the iced wine that’s becoming increasingly popular among consumers.

A few curious Germans, however, tried to make wine from these frozen grapes and found the result to be delicious and sweet: when frozen, the sugar content increases to about 250 grams for every liter of wine, which makes a pleasing contrast to the acidity of the grapes. Freezing actually prohibits the formation of the noble mold, botrytis cinerea, that mitigates acidity in normal wines. And this is the primary, but crucial, difference between Eiswein and similar sweet wines like Sauternes and Tocaj. And it’s this balance between sweetness and acidity that makes Eiswein suitable for pairings with both sweet and savory foods, especially cheese.

Legend has it that it was first—and accidentally—made in 1830 during a great famine that struck the German region of Rheingau, on the banks of

The method survived for more than a century before being definitively concretized: there was, in fact, no official production of Eiswein before 1961. Since then, however, it’s been enjoying a slow but constant rise: first taking hold in Germany and Northern Europe, it then spread West, across the Atlantic, where it was embraced by Americans and then Canadians—who, after Germans and Austrians, have now become the world’s largest producer of the wine. The grapes used in for Eiswein are mainly Riesling, Vidal and Seyval Blanc for the whites, and Cabernet Franc for reds, although experiments with varieties like Gewurtztraminer, Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio have produced excellent results. Labor intensive to make, and therefore not cheap (prices start at 25 dollars per bottle and go up from there), it’s become an important, though high-risk sector in frigid areas. The grapes have to stay on their vines for an extra three months, which exposes them to all kinds of damage, and are only picked once the temperature has fallen well below zero.

The pressed grapes must then remain for at least two days at 15°C before the fermentation process can begin. This long and labor intensive process has caused some producers to invent short cuts, namely an artificial freezing of grapes that are picked in the autumn. This causes the price to fall and enables the product to reach other consumers. The final product, of course, is different and of inferior quality. In North America, where the dispute between traditional and faster methods is becoming more controversial, the laws dictate that the appellate Ice Wine can only been given to a product whose grapes have been frozen on the vine; the other products may be called with the easily-confused names of Iced Wine or Ice. The traditional method, while extremely risky for producers and expensive for consumers, is proving valuable for the efforts of winemakers. Production is increasing, and more and more restaurants and wine bars are offering glasses of Eiswein, to the delight of epicureans everywhere.

Luxurious Cool Slopes The Little Nell

The Little Nell

T

ucked between downtown Aspen and Aspen Mountain, The Little Nell has been the epitome of Colorado chic since opening in 1989. Its current “Aspen modern” aesthetic— think cream, chocolate and blue palettes on leather chairs, velvet banquettes, recessed gas fireplaces and contemporary art— comes courtesy of celebrity (and part-time local) designer Holly Hunt, who reimagined the hotel’s guest rooms for its 20th anniversary. VIPs splurge on the Paepcke Suite; at 2,500 square feet, it’s the hotel’s largest, and the space is powered, right down to the heated marble flooring and walls, entirely by its own solar panels. Some of Aspen’s best dining options call the hotel home, from Element 47 and its local, seasonal fare to après hot spot Ajax Tavern and its signature

double cheeseburger with truffle fries. Four bars, including the Oasis, a pop-up champagne and caviar bar found somewhere (depending on the day) on Aspen Mountain each weekend, offer more options for warming up post-run. You’ll need it after a long day that begins with The Little Nell’s exclusive, complimentary First Tracks program, which gives hotel guests access to the mountain before the gondola opens to the public. Insider access is the norm here; the hotel will also arrange for you to join the mountain’s groomer snowcat or ski patrol sweep on their morning and evening missions. No possible perk goes unturned—The Little Nell is a place where even your four-legged sidekick gets his own personalized brass ID tag and puppy jet lag kit.

ark City’s only Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star resort also holds the title of World’s Best Ski Hotel from the 2014 World Ski Awards held in Austria this winter. All of the accolades make sense the moment you arrive at the property, where a soaring chalet entrance and heated walkways lead to guest rooms that are individually decorated to reflect the lodge’s mountain spirit, with exposed beams and stone fireplaces (there are more than 145 hearths onsite). The hotel, named after Olympic gold medalist Stein Eriksen, who won the slalom competition in his hometown of Oslo in 1952, is as renowned for its service as for its mid-mountain location and amenities, which include Five-Star The Spa at Stein Eriksen Lodge and Four-Star Glitretind Restaurant. At the latter, seasonal menus

When it’s time to hit the slopes, Stein Eriksen’s ski valet service and ski locker room strip away the sport’s stresses; with boot warming, weather and trail conditions, and complimentary hot chocolate, you’ll stay toasty until you hop the adjacent Viking Lift. Non-skiers will find plenty to love here as well. In winter, horse-drawn sleigh rides depart nightly; come summer, fly-fishing, horseback riding and mountain biking are just a concierge call away. And though Stein Eriksen Lodge Deer Valley feels like a tucked-away secret, you’re only five minutes from downtown Park City, reachable by the resort’s complimentary shuttle, of course.

Disaster At Sea Today I thought Near the water By the bench Where we sat On weekends How your love Was always As distant As this memory Of our times At the beach As it was And remains A last message Since you never Even asked me To beg Like the abrupt And shallow Togetherness With silence On the crest Of a wave

And need To reach shores That you dreamed But only For lives In a bottle And wreckage I’d imagined You’d spare Like our pride And vessel Of circumstance That bent At the bow For a word And broke At the stern From unwillingness As never Even bothering To try Like lifeboats With hope All too little

And decency Lost To experience Like anchors That dug Into sands

And rafts With no room Left to spare

And hurt From the winds Of excuses

Each story A new sin Of survival

And storms By the passage Of days

As all great Disasters At sea.

Last Trip

There is proof As I lay Restless Over rooftops And into stars

Out amidst The blackness And whispers Among the neighbors Far from This bed turned Kitchen Or couch made Fit for sleep Beyond The bricks of chimneys And their lack Of cozy vapors In the heat Of August calmness And the lights Of summer spells That speak to My own reasons For the cost Of igniting ruins And welcoming Lonely strangers Masked As easy death At the hands of Self-infliction And the hurt Of broken needs That seem to

Change with seasons And blend With the turn Of phrase That are true But not exclusive To the pain I’d long to carry If it meant Being reunited And tethering The severed vow As I prayed Would soon be Ceaseless Before this Desperate night In the sheen Of ocean sunshine And the spark Of recent memory That glittered Within her hair Dark As certain knowing I’d felt When she gazed Right at me Kissed Her trembling Fingers And watched As we shared that Inkling Of thought Being nearly The same Knowing The lines were caving

As tides From the lie Of your reasons

A Summer Retrospect By Jonathan Pigno

In sand Like missing imprints And the last trip We’d be taking As forever In lapsing time Beneath The darkened lighthouse And birds That lovers watched Overcast On eternal beaches That morning Near southern shores As we chased away Our demons By the time We climbed that ramp And peered out Onto the coastline Clasping Our swollen hands Where the sunken ships Laid wasted And the Atlantic’s roar Stood still Like my mind lost On this evening And for once I believed You were real.

$38M 520 Park Avenue is All Set to Become Tallest Tower in the Upper East Side

N

ew York definitely isn’t hurting for luxury real estate, and it seems like each newcomer is even more stunning than those that came before. Case in point, the soon-to-be-built 520 Park Avenue. Set to become Manhattan’s most exclusive high-rise, the building’s full-floor residences will boast an average price of $38 million and are being designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects (RAMSA). Furthermore, once it’s finished, the 800-foot 520 Park Avenue will be the tallest in the Upper East Side. The whole building will be “clad in Indiana limestone, articulated with handset stone detailing reminiscent of the great historic 20th-century apartment houses but at heights that are truly a modern 21st-century expression.” There will be 23 full-floor simplex apartments, four simplex penthouses,

102 indulgememagazine.com

and five duplex penthouses and a 12,400-square-foot triplex penthouse, all overlooking Central Park and the Upper East Side. When not gazing out of their massive windows, the residents can socialize in the grand Cathedral-like salon and enjoy drinks in the landscaped private garden. Of course, 520 Park Avenue also features a large pool, fitness center, treatment room, steam and sauna rooms, and a children’s playroom. The project is being spearheaded by Zeckendorf Development (who previously collaborated with RAMSA for Fifteen Central Park West) with Global Holdings and Park Sixty LLC. Though the tower has already broken ground, it isn’t expected to be finished until early 2018. If interested, one can visit the sales gallery at 650 Madison Avenue.

IN DESIGN The Essential Elements for a

T

Beautiful Dressing Room

he dressing room has been a mainstay of luxurious homes for centuries and it’s still a much-loved, much-appreciated appendage of the home for the modern-day woman. After all, a dressing room gives you a morning pit stop where you can prep for the day ahead; somewhere to play dress up and transform yourself before those unforgettable evenings; and a retreat to perform your favourite beauty rituals before bedtime. But the best thing about this girls-only area is that it’s your space and no one else’s. It’s one of the rare nooks of the home that can be enjoyed solely by you, giving you free rein to display your personal style.

1. The Dressing Table Whilst all the vital ingredients of a dressing area have to work together, the table is, without doubt, the most paramount piece. Sleek and glossy furniture designs are a fail-safe option for creating an impact while curved silhouettes are perfect for instilling a feminine feel. Lighthued woods also succeed in achieving a ladylike look but more masculine darker woods can bring depth and contrast to pretty room schemes. Whatever style of table you opt for, always check for quality. Look for designs with exquisite hardware, beautiful linings and ample storage to ensure the piece promises a long lifespan. 104 indulgememagazine.com

Despite whether you lean towards traditional or modern interior design, elegance, serenity and style are the feelings that every type of dressing room should call to mind. By placing yourself in sophisticated surroundings, you’ll pre-empt a feel-good mood, inspired fashion choices and achieve a beautiful home. What does it take to create the perfect dressing space? Just five key elements: a quality dressing table, a comfortable seat, good lighting, a mirror and those all important accessories. These are the building blocks of a beautiful dressing space and, if you can find quality pieces with a timeless allure, will guarantee you a perfect set-up for years to come.

2. The Seating Solution The minutes dedicated to make-up application and hair styling can soon turn into hours so it’s vital to find a seating solution that not only looks incredible but also offers a comfortable base. Stools are popular choice for dressing areas as they can be tucked away neatly. Designs that are short in stature and feature a padded seat with soft upholstery make the most comfortable additions. If you’re looking for a little more support, chairs with backrests are a better solution. Embrace delicate silhouettes with no arms or sloping sides that can be slid underneath the table when not in use. Button tufted designs work beautifully as do French Regency-inspired styles with cabriole legs and patterned upholstery.

3. The Mirror A dressing room isn’t complete without a standout mirror. Remember size and position are everything – bigger is better as this makes getting ready an easy and enjoyable process. Oversized wall mirrors look best hung above the dressing table while full-length mirrors make a beautiful backdrop and allow you to double check that you look your best from top to toe. For close-up product application, it’s also useful to include a magnifying cosmetics mirror on your tabletop display. This shot from a Helen Green Design project opts for a streamlined golden design to tie in with the picture frames and match the clean-lined table, but ornate silhouettes are also a wonderful way to flatter a dressing area. Don’t forget to leave fixing your mirror until you have your table and seat in place to ensure it’s at the perfect height for you.

4. The Lighting Great lighting is an integral part of a successful dressing space. Honest but flattering illumination is the ideal. Before even considering which type of lighting to go for, make sure you take advantage of the natural light in your space by placing your dressing table near a window or French doors, if possible. Avoid harsh light from above and below as this causes shadows that can affect makeup application. Wall sconces will cast desirable, evenly spread light – an effect which can also be achieved by placing table lamps at either end of your vanity unit.

5. The Finishing Touches An exquisite selection of accessories is the best way to give your dressing table an upgrade. Jewellery boxes, ring catchers, cosmetics jars and perfume bottles make charming and functional additions, enabling you to have all your trinkets and products to hand. Candles, photo frames and a stunning vase filled with your favourite flowers add a personal touch. Don’t forget it’s not just the choice of accessories that’s important but how you present them. Use objects of varying heights and textures to create an aesthetically satisfying display and look to gorgeous trays to keep smaller accents in a tidy arrangement.

Bang & Olufsen Release the $38k

With 18 Scan-Speak loudspeaker drivers, 14 channels of ICEpower amplifiers and four extra Class D amps, the BeoLab 90 ends up delivering up to 8,200 watts perloudspeaker. Cooling fins are also there to keep heat from having an effect on the sound.

"Think of this speaker as a Tesla. It represents not only what's possible via the latest technology, but delivers it in an unparalleled user experience. Its form, like a sports car, is derived from its function; in the speaker world, that means a speaker designed to realize a truly 360 immersive experience mixed to a listener's exact standards. No front or back, and speaker drivers aligned in a variety of directions,” Marie Kristine Schmidt, Corporate Vice President and Head of Brand, Design & Marketing at Bang & Olufsen recently toldJustLuxe. “And just like the Tesla is the future of automobiles, the BeoLab 90 is the future of sound.” 114 indulgememagazine.com

“Tesla of Loudspeakers”

The advanced tech that Schmidt speaks of includes the device’s Active Room Compensation feature, which makes up for whatever physical barriers may be in the room, like furniture and walls. The Beam Width Control enables you to alter the width of the sound beam, while the Beam Direction Control allows you to steer the audio where you want it to go. You can access the controls by using the remote or the BeoLab 90 app, both of which are incredibly easy to use.

One BeoLab 90 loudspeaker costs $38,995, which means you will have to shell out $77,990, because you can’t just buy one. That would be silly. INDULGE | Winter Edition 115

Lasting Impressions

W

hat is the most expensive car in the world? The 1931 Bugatti Royale Kellner Coupe was sold for $8,700,000 in 1987.

However, that car and many alike will not be included in this list because it is not available on the market today. Car enthusiast have the ability to drive and own vehicles of this caliber of the world’s most expensive cars, proving that exclusivity really does equal value. Listed are prices from all of the top end manufacturers and included only street-legal models that are currently in production.

The Koenigsegg Trevita took number one spot, clocking in at an eye-watering $2.21 million. Only three of these exclusive models will be made by Swedenbased Koenigsegg, hence the name; “Trevita” means “three Whites” in Swedish.

116 indulgememagazine.com

The Trevita is a white, diamond-coated version of the Koenigsegg CCXR, meaning that for the first time, the world’s most expensive car runs on biofuel.

The regular CCXR appeared in seventh place on the list, with the CCX appearing eighth — an impressive three top-ten spots for Koenigsegg.

Millionaires’ favorite the Bugatti Veyron came in second place with its Grand Sport model.

Forever Young Mercedes-Benz G-Class

T

he iconic Mercedes-Benz off-road vehicle continues to be a resounding success with better-than-ever sales on a global basis.

Since it was originally conceived in 1979 as a vehicle to be used primarily in tough off-road terrain, the G-Class has undergone an astounding evolution. Over the course of 35 years, Mercedes-Benz has refined what was initially a very practically-oriented off-road specialist by giving it a premium interior and roadgoing qualities on par with those of the premium sedans from Mercedes- Benz. The G-Class today is considered the top model among luxury-class crosscountry vehicles, and has provided the gene pool for other very successful SUVs built under the Mercedes-Benz brand. The G-Class has been voted offroader of the year countless times over the past years, most recently this year. A comprehensive range of features ensures that this classic cross-country vehicle remains in a class of its own in the off-road sector. These highlights include two powerful V8 biturbo engines, a significantly extended range of appointments, a luxurious interior and a few discreet external modifications that nevertheless manage to preserve the timeless, classic design – virtually unchanged since 1979 - that has made the G-Class a true automotive style icon. Dr Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars: “Our G-Class has been a force to be reckoned with for the last 34 years. In its latest evolutionary stage, it offers stateof-the art, powerful engines, a further improved range of luxurious appointments and the very latest safety features, as well, of course, as its now legendary offroad capabilities. At the same time the design remains true to its down-to-earth, unmistakable style. In particular, the interior is characterized by high-quality appointments finished with exquisite materials, and the instrument cluster and center console have been completely redesigned. The driver is greeted by a color instrument cluster display between two round dials. Other standard features include the latest COMAND infotainment system featuring mbrace2, including a navigation system and internet access. Standard safety features include the addition of Blind Spot Assist, the parking aid PARKTRONIC and the adaptive cruise control system DISTRONIC PLUS. The G63 AMG with an eight-cylinder biturbo engine and the ECO stop/ start system as standard continue to dominate the model mix in the USA.

Ferrari Unveils Hardcore F12tdf Limited Edition Model

T

he Italian car maker has unveiled the F12tdf, which is a tribute to the Tour de France automobile road race, which the brand dominated in the 1950s and ’60s with the 250 GT and 250 GTO.

Designed by the Ferrari Design Centre, this F12tdf stands out from the F12berlinetta with its complex front bumpers inspired here too by competitive driving, with small wings on the side and a new rear diffuser.

The F12tdf has a V12 with 780hp, directly derived from that of the current F12berlinetta which delivers only 740hp. It can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in only 2.9 seconds (and it takes less than 8 seconds to get from 0 to 200km/h) and has a top speed of 340km/h.

With a production of 799 units, the F12tdf will be officially unveiled at the Mugello circuit in Italy as part of the Ferrari Challenge World Finals on November 8, 2015. Its price tag has not yet been disclosed, but it will no doubt top the minimum price of 270,000 euros for the F12berlinetta.

FERRARI says that this engine has been designed with advanced technology taken directly from Formula 1.

B

est Wishes for a Glorious Season and in the New Year By Georgia

S

ome days the pressure of life is more than enough to make one want to crawl under the covers and not come out, so it’s no wonder that so many cringe at the thought of setting New Year’s resolutions. Setting goals is a part of life, but I am not sure January 1st is the best time to do this. It’s cold and dark, and everyone is coming down from the high of the holidays. Not exactly a great time to tackle new projects when energy is low, which is probably why so many of us fail to keep the resolutions we set.

tricking yourself into keeping your resolutions and with that sharing fun time with like minded friends.

But... like many of you, though I hate the dreaded “R” word, making resolutions is a chance to start fresh, so I do like to put some thought into how I want the next year to be different. This year, I’m going to focus on specific actions that I want to take, instead of setting resolutions about general things. When a resolution is too general, it allows for all sorts of room for failure, which we all know is a huge drag and makes us all wonder why we even set resolutions in the first place. I am focusing on creating opportunities that will help me attain my goals in ways that I know I am going to follow, like spending time with people who have similar goals or incorporating my goals into things I already like to do. It’s almost like

The reality is....it is all worth it if we put our passion into developing what we want!

In addition to all that...why does it only have to be at the start of year? Do you ever find yourself simply reflecting on a Birthday? Or perhaps a monthly glance or any day of the year on a timeline that you find yourself to be on? Everyday should be a start with reviews of what we want and the climb of reaching upward and forward with goals and dreams.

It has been a whirlwind year, but one that has helped me come to many conclusions about how I can and will live my life. I can say without question, as years pass by, I am more sure about what is important to me and what I will work hard for. This is different for everyone, and we should all give each other the space to live our lives how we see best for us. This is the essence of what Life is about, though I happily share my life lessons with you, in the hopes to inspire you.

December 2015 and January 2016

Astrological Forecasts...

A

By JoAnn Vivirito

s we embark on a New Year, we will first finalize what was an opportunistic 2015. Whether the opportunities that found us were of a personal, business, relationship, career or health nature, we all were required to choose according to what best benefited us. This final month of 2015 asks us to accept what the universe has made us aware of and brought to our attention the need for “acceptance”! This month will bring us to “spiritual reality”! Interesting combination of words!...almost like an oxy-moron...but we will see as this month progresses, how spirituality exist in our reality. We will know the value of surrendering to a power greater than ourselves and understand the benefit to that very action. As the sign of Sagittarius dominates the first half of December, we will come to experience the adventurist side of Sag, but we will also be distracted by the need to pay more attention to our own personal limitations instead of the usual care free nature of Sagittarius time. As the New Moon on December 11th presents itself we will prepare our wishes once again keeping in mind what Sagittarius requires...here are some sample wishes...”I want to consciously and consistently see my life as a grand adventure,I want to easily find myself taking those steps that will lead to my taking a trip to ____at a price I can afford, I want to easily find myself making choices that lead to my feeling a greater sense of personal freedom in every area of my life” You may make 10 wishes that you would like to see manifested.

that will be brought to our attention as the year progresses...Although these areas will be different for all of us individually, we will know those areas without question. This process will take us most of the year to complete...so don’t rush the process....Purging is a good thing and allow us to make room for who and what’s to come after working to preparing our lives for new beginnings. As we will eliminated the clutter in our closets, garages, basements, we will also work on those issues and circumstances along with those individuals who do the same to our lives with their “drama”! 2016 will be a year like none we have seen in at least 9 years. As we prepare for this “house cleaning” year, we will also need to be willing to close the chapter on issues that have created stagnation, limitation, worry, fear and an abundance of experience wanted and not for the last 9 years! So take full advantage of stretching out this process no late than September 2016. Universally, we all need to be a part of the changes this planet needs so we may continue to prosper, succeed and flourish in all that human kind requires! Have a wonderful Hanukkah, the Merriest of Christmases, and the an exciting New Year!

Capricorn will begin on the 21st and bring us to that reality and the practical side of December that asks us to wake up and smell the coffee... and we will! The full moon comes in on Christmas day in the sign of Cancer...at this time emotions will be extremely high and traditional issues concerning family and what we hold dear will go through changes that will lay a new foundation of what we value and the integrity of our future....

Taurus: Throwing caution to the wind is not who you are ordinarily, but this month you will be a part of a personal “tornado” you will create with words...choose them wisely as you will shock others and even yourself...Make this new year one you won’t forget for all the right reasons!

The New Year of 2016 presents all of us a chance to spend the year .... tying us loose ends, finalizing old business, elimination things, situations and individuals that doesn’t serve a positive place in the areas of our lives

152 indulgememagazine.com

Aries: It is necessary for you to listen to those who push you past your limits now...it’s not your usual “M.O” but it can make amazing changes in this coming year...create a new approach to old ways and know if your want a positive life let go of negative thinking! Here’s to a great year!

Gemini: Your usual optimism and belief all that is good prevails will

not be easy to accept...Don’t allow worry to infect your beautiful mind... find solutions to your concern and reinstate your true belief in mankind... Don’t feed negative concerns and they won’t grown into worry...have a great mental health new year!

”INDULGE Your Mind Body and Spirit!”

Cancer: Put your best foot forward at a time that taxes your emotions

enjoy the holidays, but this year you want to participate in the celebration.... party...enjoy...It feels weird but you don’t want to be behind the scenes now...Go for the excitement of this wonderful time of the year...Continue that feeling into the new year as best you can.

Leo: You are feeling your very best...Your strength and confidence is at center stage and those around you find it contagious...as you experience the feeling of contentment, you are well aware the benefit of this “out of the norm” desire for peace of mind! Keep the momentum for the new year.

Aquarius: Try not to get too caught up in holiday celebrating...it takes

desires...family, traditions, sharing your home with those you care about. You will have what you desire as long as your not to hard on yourself! Prepare for a new year that can bring you a new outlook through your creativity!

Virgo: Your desires are beginning to take form and you will know soon

enough the benefit of not being a “people pleaser” as usual...be pleased with your new found freedom...this new year “insists” you continue this feeling!

Libra:

Conflict is not on holiday...but you don’t have to exercise discretion in dealing with it...although you play fair doesn’t mean everyone else does...you surprise yourself when you stand your ground and everyone else...Assert your beliefs in fairness in this coming year and know the feeling of confidence!

it’s toll on you....Enjoy the seasons celebrations but remind yourself of all the things you want to do now and in the new year...for you, it’s best to make a list and follow through...the new year is right around the corner... so be prepared!

Pisces:

You may be and others think so too, feeling you have found what joy really is and in many ways you have. It doesn’t take much to make you happy as long as your true to who you are...simplistic...don’t lose yourself in what others think you should do, have or want...you do have the answers and in this new year show others your good with who you are!

Astrologer for over 35 years, JoAnn Vivirito 917.498.1059

Scorpio: This time of year always “strikes a cord” for you...others get to see the softer musher side...It’s a great time to draw others closer as sometimes you can keep them at a distance...Your mellow mood carries you through the holiday season and that’s a good think...let this new year bring about a leveling off in showing who your are! Sagittarius:

You will find yourself feeling emotional of memories of Christmases passed...this can make you very melancholy...surrender...it’s not your usual self but it will help you process some feelings which your not used to dealing with...Get into a new “routine” for the new year and process feelings. You don’t always have to “shock”!

Capricorn:

Although your not usually very festive, not that you don’t
