As reported in the e-book Accelerate and improve business outcomes with AIoT, Volvo Trucks’ service monitors data from each truck for fault codes triggered when something is amiss with one of the vehicle’s major systems, such as the engine, aftertreatment or transmission. Thousands of sensors on each truck collect streaming IoT data in real time to provide context. This data includes where the event happened and what conditions were present during the fault – including altitude, ambient air temperature, truck gear, RPM level and torque load – to provide context for diagnosis. Volvo Trucks process a very large amount of data through the SAS Analytics Platform and can quickly diagnose the fault and its severity with detailed information and a recommended action plan. The heavy metals which are most polluting if not treated or controlled e.g lithium, nickel and cobalt can become the biggest disaster which mankind ignored in the search of nonpolluting alternative fuels. AFRICA Is Nigeria’s start-up ecosystem the key to the country’s coronavirus recovery Published by Oxford Business Group on June 10, 2021

–A recent report has named Nigeria as the African country with the most tech start-ups –Launched in 2019, the Digital Economy Policy shows a commitment to boosting the sector –Various hurdles remain to be overcome, related to both regulation and infrastructure –4IR start-ups are changing the face of Nigerian society and driving its Covid-19 recovery $ UHFHQW UHSRUW KDV KLJKOLJKWHG WKH VLJQLƬFDQW potential of Nigeria’s burgeoning tech start-up scene, but also outlined a series of limitations that need to be addressed for the segment to emerge as a true engine of the country’s recovery from Covid-19. As OBG has explored, Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies have taken root across sub-Saharan Africa, with many states leveraging digital solutions in order to drive their coronavirus recoveries. Nigeria is a frontrunner in this regard. For example, Lagos is home to one of the three most important tech clusters in the region, with the other two being in Nairobi, Kenya, and Cape Town, South Africa. Indeed, according to a recent report by fDi Intelligence, a division of the Financial Times, the Nigerian city has the highest number of start-ups in Africa. Driving expansion Despite such hurdles, there are encouraging signs that authorities are serious about boosting the Nigerian digital sector. At the end of 2019 the Ministry of Communications was rebranded as the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy. This was followed in early 2020 by the launch of the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy 2020-2030. This signal document lays out eight pillars that will be used to transform Nigeria into a leading digital economy. These are: developmental regulation; digital literacy and skills; solid

infrastructure; service infrastructure; digital services development and promotion; soft infrastructure; digital society and emerging technologies; and indigenous content development and adoption. Meanwhile, a 5G network is set to be rolled out across the country, following successful trials in the cities of Lagos, Abuja and Calabar. While the onset of the coronavirus pandemic came shortly after the launch of the new policy, it would seem that the vision it enshrines is already yielding results: in the fourth quarter of 2020 the Nigerian digital sector grew by 40.7%, a trend that continued LQWR WKH ƬUVW PRQWKV RI WKLV \HDU A further incentive to growth of the digital sector is that – in common with many oilproducing countries – Nigeria is seeking to limit the prominence of hydrocarbons in its GDP mix, following a very troubled year for oil prices. As Emmanuel Ezenwere, CEO and founder of Arone, recently told OBG, “drones can broadly improve logistics in places with high WUDƯF FRQJHVWLRQ VXFK DV /DJRV DQG RWKHU ELJ FLWLHV LQ 1LJHULD DV WKH\ FDQ E\SDVV WUDƯF jams and deliver goods, household items and food supplies within 15 minutes. Meanwhile, Nigerian start-ups are also driving renewable energy, a key component of the world’s “green recovery” from Covid-19. Lasting changes While much work remains to be done, there are already countless success stories of innovative start-ups that are changing the face both of Lagos’ tech ecosystem and Nigerian society as a whole. For example, in one of the biggest pieces RI 1LJHULDQ WHFK QHZV LQ ORFDO ƬQWHFK start-up Paystack was acquired by US-based giant Stripe in October, in a deal that was reportedly worth more than $200m. The European Commission has revised the Industrial Strategy document already published in March 2020, when the pandemic had not yet overturned Europe and the whole world by publishing the update of the Strategy on 5 May 2021 that considers the impact of the pandemic and the needs more urgent to ensure a solid economic recovery in the Union. The health crisis has shown how important it is to maintain the proper functioning of the internal market and its industry, even in the emergency phases, with coordinated measures between the various Member States. To this end, the Commission proposes the creation of a Single Market Emergency Instrument, which structurally ensures the freedom of movement of people, goods, services, and capital in the context of possible future crises. The instrument should ensure greater exchange of information and solidarity between Member States, avoiding future stock shortages of critical products and strengthening coordination in supply procedures. Furthermore, the pandemic has accelerated awareness of the need for a rapid green and digital transition of the European economy, which at the same time ensures the full competitiveness of its industry visà-vis international competitors, fostering the creation of quality and long-lasting jobs. term. UFS Threading Tools

Running to the Top: Italian THREADING TOOLS UFS is an Italian company specialized in the design and construction of threading tools; in particular of standard taps and special custom taps. Over time, the company has reached a very high level in terms of product quality, above all thanks to the intense work carried out in the Research and Development plant, where LQFUHDVLQJO\ VSHFLƬF WRROV IRU WKUHDGLQJ LQ VSHFLƬF ƬHOGV RI DSSOLFDWLRQ KDYH HYROYHG 7KH KDUGHQLQJ RI WKH WRROV LV DVVLVWHG LQWHUQDOO\ DQG LV FHUWLƬHG 7KH VXUIDFH WUHDWPHQWV from vaporization to painting with chromium nitride, titanium nitride, titanium carbonitride, titanium and aluminum nitride, are calibrated and customized in relation to the performance required by the product. 7KH 8)6 WHFKQLFDO RƯFH WDNHV FDUH RI LGHQWLI\LQJ WKH EHVW UHIHUHQFH VXLWDEOH IRU VSHFLƬF QHHGV on a daily basis. Some examples, among the most important in the entire UFS production. In High Strength, designed to work materials up to 52 HRC, they are produced in PM sintered super rapid steel with high percentages of vanadium and cobalt and available with surface treatments that have a high resistance to wear and oxidation. For stainless steel, ideal for hard-to-machine and long-chipping steels. The basic steels are of the HSSV3 type, with 3% vanadium, or in PM sintered steel with a high content of vanadium and cobalt. The cutting geometries and the TXC treatment prevent the formation of built-up edge. For light aluminum alloys, long-chipping copper alloys and soft magnetic iron (Fe) and aluminum alloys with silicon. Available with AZ alternating thread that avoids the formation of the chip skein with a reduced number of cuts and large unloading compartments. In cast iron, the items are made of super-rapid steel sintered in metallurgy powders with a low cutting angle and combined with an accentuated rake angle that render these types of taps suitable for working abrasive materials. They have an increased tolerance of type 6HX and a TiAlN FRDWLQJ FRPELQHG ZLWK PLFUR VXUIDFH ƬQLVKLQJ SURFHVVHV $OVR ZLWK VKRUW LQWDNH IRU WDSSLQJ with a reduced-dimension or 25° helical discharge chamber for applications on steel cast iron (steel castings). For titanium, products come in steel sintered in metallurgy powders bearing special cutting geometries. They bear a 15° left helix for through holes and 15° right helix for blind holes. They are also available in 4HX tolerance and with TiCN treatment for processing the most demanding alloys. For nickel, the pieces have a reinforced body structure. They have a 10° left helix for through-holes and 10° right helix with chip breaker for application on blind holes and also come with a 4HX tolerance and 25° helical taps with rear tapering. For synchronised rigid tapping, in quality powder-sintered steels, the taps are rebored with h6 shank tolerance to ensure maximum precision at high cutting speed. They can also be used with thermal coil spindles. Full-thread carbide has straight cuts for machining very abrasive materials. Available with a central hole for the passage of lubricant and with TiCN surface coating. Thread mould taps in steel sintered in metallurgy powders. The coatings are combined with special surface preparation processes to minimise friction between the tool and material being worked. Available with and without ducts, also with 6HX and 6GX tolerances and an internal lubricant type FOR central hole or with radial FORY-type outputs.

We operate in compliance with the severe norms applied by main Register Societies, with whom we daily cooperate especially in marine sector, one of our key sectors. Electric or hydraulic driven winches, standard or double drum, single or multiple motor input, in line or orthogonal mechanical transmission are just some samples of the versions that can be provided. Personnel lifting winches with a hoisting capacity up to 50% of the cargo hoisting capacity, with a secondary brake acting on the drum, can also be studied and designed, and completed with load limiting or load detection devices, two very reliable systems, providing results with extreme accuracy. Constant tension, MOPS and AOPS valve blocks are required accessories for ship-to-ship crane application. An emergency lowering device is also on the list of standard accessories, among a complete range of other components to complete the products: wire ropes, pulley blocks, tension rollers and so on. We believe that marine applications need components of the highest quality level to ensure the reliability of the whole piece of equipment.
