INDUSTRY 4.0 GUIDE TO THE MOST CURRENT AUTOMATION AND INDUSTRY 4.0’S TERMINOLOGIES By Mor Nguirane

A big step towards understanding a specific industry is to know the used terminology. Automation and Industry 4.0 have many terminologies which are unknown or less familiar to the most. We will go through the most used terms when talking about industry 4.0 and automation in the 4IR and see what these terms mean and how they are defined. This is the first part (from A to M) since the list is quite long.

Advanced Research Computing High performance computing and storage needs that are too complex to be handled by a standard desktop workstation, specifically in support of research. Includes cloud environments, massivescale infrastructure and large computational power.

Digitization Potential of the digital transformation. Converting real products and analogue sequences into digital data and processes is referred to as digitization. In Industrie 4.0, people, machines and industrial processes are networked on the basis of cyber physical systems incorporating state of-the-art information and communications technology. In this context, the intelligent exchange and interpretation of data determine the entire life cycle of a product: from the idea to development, manufacturing, use and maintenance through to recycling. Production and logistics processes will be globally networked beyond the factory gates in the future for the purpose of optimizing the flow of materials, detecting non-conforming parameters at an early stage and enabling a highly flexible reaction to changing customer requirements and market conditions. Embedded Computer A term for computing that is dedicated to a single purpose, as opposed to general-purpose computing. Embedded computer systems are special-purpose and contain only the software and hardware needed to achieve those ends. In the IoT, many systems are developed for specific purposes and made to work in concert with other systems.

Human-Robot Collaboration The best of two worlds. Until now, industrial robots always worked separately from humans in specially safeguarded protected spaces. Robotics have broken down this barrier with a new generation of collaborative industrial robots. With human-robot collaboration (HRC), combine the skills of humans with their superior creativity and cognitive abilities and the robot with its greater repeatability, strength and precision. In this way, the robot becomes the third arm of the human operator. This new form of collaboration opens up previously inconceivable possibilities for the smart factory of the future. AMERICA HOW WILL US INTEREST RATES AFFECT EMERGING MARKETS Publisher Oxford Business Group on June 2, 2022

– In May the US Federal Reserve implemented its largest interest rate increase in two decades – The move is likely to affect emerging market currencies and increase debt payments – Emerging markets are better positioned to combat higher interest rates than in the past – Many central banks anticipated the rate hike and implemented their own fiscal measures Following the US Federal Reserve’s decision to raise benchmark interest rates in recent months, analysts are closely tracking the impact this will have on emerging markets and their economies. On May 4 the Federal Reserve raised its benchmark interest rate by 0.5 percentage points to a target range of 0.75-1%, the largest increase since 2000. This followed a 0.25-percentagepoint rise in March, the first since December 2018.

Past experiences, most recently in 2013, have shown that interest rate rises often increase the cost of servicing US dollar-denominated debt for emerging markets, lead to a depreciation of their currencies, weaker demand for exports in the US and potential outflows of capital from lowerincome economies. Higher interest rates were cited as a contributing factor, along with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, when the IMF in April downgraded its full-year growth outlook for developing and emerging market countries from 4.8% to 3.8%.

The primary challenge of higher interest rates is that they weaken the value of other currencies against the dollar, making it more expensive to service existing debt payments and often triggering an outflow of capital investment from emerging markets. The decision to lift interest rates comes amid To shore up foreign exchange rates, curtail attempts to control inflation in the US, which hit inflation in their own economies and pay down a 40-year high of 8.5% in March. dollar-denominated debt, emerging market central banks have already started raising After rates reached historic lows during the interest rates. pandemic, the Federal Reserve signalled that it will continue to raise them gradually over the On the same day that the US Federal Reserve coming months in small increments to provide a hiked its rate in May Brazil’s central bank so-called soft landing for the US economy. increased its rate by one percentage point to 12.75%. The impact of the rate hikes is not expected to stronger-than-expected growth in the first be felt universally, however. quarter of the year. Countries that run consistent trade deficits financed with dollar-denominated debt are likely to be more exposed to the potential flow-on effects. Examples include Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and Turkey, which have seen the largest increases in their bond yields among emerging markets since the end of 2020. One week after the Federal Reserve’s hike Argentina’s central bank raised its interest rate by another two percentage points to 49%. In contrast, Turkey has held its rate steady at 14% this year, despite the official inflation rate reaching a two-decade high of 70% in April and the Turkish lira continuing to weaken. Emerging markets have learned from past crises While pressure on exchange rates and bond yields is likely to persist over the coming 12 to 18 months, there is some evidence to suggest that many emerging markets are better positioned to handle the fiscal challenges than in the past.

In Colombia – where the central bank has increased interest rates six times since September, from 1.75% to 6% – the peso also rallied against the dollar in May after experiencing a drop in late April. In general, emerging markets also hold larger foreign currency reserves, rely less on dollardenominated debt and run smaller current account deficits than in the past. According to a paper from the Brookings Institution, a US think tank, in 2013 the world’s most fragile countries had an average current account deficit of 4.4% of GDP, but this figure stood at 0.4% in mid-2021. More diversified economies and trade relationships are also serving to insulate emerging markets today. In the past, a US economic slowdown was devastating for the export potential of many emerging markets; however, today most are more resilient and able to export goods to many other countries, including but not limited to China.

For one, several central banks anticipated the Federal Reserve’s move and started raising their Although China is facing its own economic own rates last year. headwinds due to dollar appreciation and its “zero-Covid” strategy, many emerging markets Mexico raised its interest rate for the eighth have more diversified, non-commodity export consecutive time in mid-May. AFRICA THE ROLE OF INDUSTRIAL ZONES IN SME GROWTH IN EMERGING MARKETS Publisher Oxford Business Group on June 8, 2022

– SMEs are central to the growth of emerging markets globally – Free zones and industrial parks are viewed as key to the development of SMEs – Egyptian company Polaris Parks has an industrial site dedicated to small businesses – The AfCFTA is expected to provide SMEs with significant opportunities to export goods

national growth and development plans, this focus has intensified as a result of the pandemic.

This is a common pattern across Africa. In Morocco SMEs make up 90% of all companies but account for roughly 30% of exports. Given their economic potential, supporting SMEs is seen as a key path to expanding the middle class and achieving more inclusive economic growth in emerging markets.

One player developing this strategy is Egypt’s Polaris Parks. Established in 2007, it has five industrial parks in the country, totalling 5m sq metres.

For example, in January Morocco’s government announced a series of measures designed to help SMEs, including greater access to credit and business support. In a similar vein, in December last year the Kenyan government and the World Bank unveiled a plan that will see 250,000 microAs governments across Africa look to bolster the enterprises and SMEs receive better access to economic potential of small and medium-sized finance. enterprises (SMEs), industrial parks and special economic zones (SEZs) are emerging as key SME presence in industrial parks enablers of their development. The impact is higher in Africa, where While SEZs have often been established to attract SMEs employ around 80% of the continent’s foreign investment from large, multinational workforce. companies, there are also examples of them being used to help develop SMEs. But while SMEs are a major economic driver, there is also significant room for further growth. Some think that the expansion of small business In Egypt, for example, SMEs employ 75% of the participation in industrial parks could lead to workforce, but contribute less than 20% of the greater involvement in the industrial value chain, country’s exports. which could result in an increase in SME exports.

Indeed, its Bosla Park facility caters specifically to SMEs. Located in 6th of October City, the park contains 300 ready-made business units, providing companies with various forms of industrial facilities and infrastructure.

Capitalising on the AfCFTA The increased focus on developing SMEs, and in particular those that operate from industrial parks, comes as governments across Africa look to capitalise on the benefits associated with the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

The current focus on SMEs aligns with the government’s broader goals. The Egypt Vision 2030 strategy contains several initiatives designed to stimulate SME growth, such as improving access to financing and business space, as well as helping small businesses integrate into value chains.

As OBG has reported, one such example is Ghana, which in December last year announced that it would build three industrial cities in the Ashanti, Eastern and Western regions. This adds to the four existing industrial free zones operated by the Ghana Free Zones Authority, and is central to the government’s transformation plan to increase processing and exports.

EUROPE EU’s INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTION FROM THE BEGINNING OF THE COVID-19 UP TO NOW By Mor Nguirane

The European Statistical Office (EUROSTAT) has released a series of valuable data regarding the EU industrial production that provide a picture of the European community industrial production from the hint of the COVID-19 to the 2022. Recent development of industrial production In January 2022, industrial production in the EU increased by 0.4% month-on-month; in the euro area, industrial production remained unchanged. The EU grew by 1.0% and 2.5% in December 2021 and November 2021, respectively, following gains in January. Negative rate of change prevails in late summer and fall of 2021. As growth rates have been relatively stable in recent months, and

despite relatively modest growth developments in the first months of 2021, industrial production in January 2022 was at 102.5% of February 2020 levels prior to the Covid-19 crisis. Figure 1 shows the 2020 and 2021 development in industrial production for total industry and the various main industrial groupings, i.e. intermediate goods, capital goods, energy, durable and non-durable consumer goods. In the EU, production of non-durable consumer goods such as food and clothing increased by 3.0% in January 2022 month-on-month, while production of intermediate goods remained

UFS Threading Tools

UFS is an Italian company specialized in the design and construction of threading tools; in particular of standard taps and special custom taps. Over time, the company has reached a very high level in terms of product quality, above all thanks to the intense work carried out in the Research and Development plant, where increasingly specific tools for threading in specific fields of application have evolved. Experimentation for technological innovation has not only had the task of analyzing and solving internal production problems, but also is addressed to emerging scientific issues, with national and international research plans, in synergy with some universities and polytechnics. The result of this continuous evolution, aimed at identifying the best product for each specific use, could not fail to consider the economic aspects. Ways and times of use of a threading tool are fundamental components, together with quality and technical characteristics, to identify the most suitable product. Some examples, among the most important in the entire UFS production, for specific materials to be threaded. In High Strength, designed to work materials up to 52 HRC, they are produced in PM sintered super rapid steel with high percentages of vanadium and cobalt and available with surface treatments that have a high resistance to wear and oxidation. For stainless steel, ideal for hard-to-machine and long-chipping steels. The basic steels are of the HSSV3 type, with 3% vanadium, or in PM sintered steel with a high content of vanadium and cobalt. The cutting geometries and the TXC treatment prevent the formation of built-up edge. For light aluminum alloys, long-chipping copper alloys and soft magnetic iron (Fe) and aluminum alloys with silicon. Available with AZ alternating thread that avoids the formation of the chip skein with a reduced number of cuts and large unloading compartments. In cast iron, the items are made of super-rapid steel sintered in metallurgy powders with a low cutting angle and combined with an accentuated rake angle that render these types of taps suitable for working abrasive materials. They have an increased tolerance of type 6HX and a TiAlN coating, combined with micro surface finishing processes. Also with short intake for tapping with a reduceddimension or 25° helical discharge chamber for applications on steel cast iron (steel castings). For titanium, products come in steel sintered in metallurgy powders bearing special cutting geometries. They bear a 15° left helix for through holes and 15° right helix for blind holes. They are also available in 4HX tolerance and with TiCN treatment for processing the most demanding alloys. For nickel, the pieces have a reinforced body structure. They have a 10° left helix for throughholes and 10° right helix with chip breaker for application on blind holes and also come with a 4HX tolerance and 25° helical taps with rear tapering. For synchronised rigid tapping, in quality powder-sintered steels, the taps are rebored with h6 shank tolerance to ensure maximum precision at high cutting speed. They can also be used with thermal coil spindles. Full-thread carbide has straight cuts for machining very abrasive materials. Available with a central hole for the passage of lubricant and with TiCN surface coating. Thread mould taps in steel sintered in metallurgy powders. The coatings are combined with special surface preparation processes to minimise friction between the tool and material being worked. Available with and without ducts, also with 6HX and 6GX tolerances and an internal lubricant type FOR central hole or with radial FORY-type outputs.

APSOLUT Solution Management Services

ADAPTING TO THE WINDS OF CHANGE Dr Ferhat Eryurt explains how procurement experts apsolut helped transform a wind turbine company based in Germany to deal with the challenges of the global marketplace Businesses today face unprecedented challenges, but you can take action to deal with them. We face continuing Covid outbreaks affecting global supply chains, price inflation and sanctions imposed on Russia because of the conflict in Ukraine, all impacting our procurement operations. Enercon, a foundation-run company based in northern Germany, had been operating successfully since the 1980s manufacturing wind turbines – until radical regulatory changes in 2017 forced it to take urgent action. In order to be competitive in a globalised world, it took measures to stabilise and realign its operations by adopting strategies for digitalisation, internationalisation and cost reduction. Reviewing its sourcing meant supply chains became more international and now included component suppliers in Poland, Portugal, Turkey, India and other Asian countries – it had successfully globalised its supply operations and doubled the number of its employees in Global Procurement in just three years. Working with procurement specialists apsolut, the company digitised its strategic procurement processes by implementing SAP Ariba, with solutions including Supplier Lifecycle and Performance, Risk, Sourcing and Contract Management. To reveal weaknesses in the new processes, we helped with best-practice solutions and added Enercon-specific requirements to involve interfaces and stakeholders more effectively. This meant transparency for all users, an onboarding process through Ariba and internal online training carried out by apsolut before each implementation. Katrin Tammling, Expert Process Management and eProcurement at Enercon, says: “We moved forward quickly thanks to apsolut’s great expertise with SAP Ariba and their uncomplicated knowledge transfer. “Times ahead will be challenging for many companies but there is a lot you can do to be prepared. Thanks to the action we took with apsolut, we are now confident for the future.” Dr Ferhat Eryurt is a Partner at apsolut Group apsolut is an established partner for SAP and SAP Ariba on-premise, cloud and hybrid procurement solutions, with expertise ranging from SAP Ariba and SAP Fieldglass to SAP S/4HANA.
