Hing has been working on his craft from adolescence but his major achievements began when he first captivated the attention of Reshma Martin, a famous Malaysian singer-songwriter. Since then, has worked with her as a guitarist and songwriter.

ing moved to Los Angeles , California to enhance his skillset and connect with industry members through the famous Los Angeles College of Music. At just 19 years old, studying in Los Angeles, Hing made an easy transition to working with some biggest names in the industry. Hing has proven himself as an extraordinary musician and we’re thrilled to hear his upcoming music. This artist is showing promising signs in his career so far and we look forward to his future as a part of the music industry. William Jackson: When did you start singing? Hing Zhe Lee: I started singing at seven years of age, my grandmother used to request songs from me, and I’d sing to her. At the age of ten I joined a school choir. At the age of 14 I picked up the guitar after coming across Metallica while researching bands on Youtube and knew I wanted to be like them. This is when my passion for music developed. William: How did you start singing? Hing: I had an office job but didn’t enjoy it. I thought long and hard about my lack of joy and what to do next and discussed it with my parents. It’s at this point I determined pursuing music is for me. Writing music and playing guitar are a part of me and they’re something I love. Hence, I made the decision to leave everything in Malaysia and travel to the United States to pursue my musical career and education. William: How has your family supported your dream of being a musical artist? Hing: My mom used to play violin. My dad would frequently pull out the harmonica and play it. They’re supportive because their son has something he is passionate about which is music. William: What where their thoughts when you told them you wanted to move to Los Angeles, California? Hing: My father was skeptical of me traveling to the United States to pursue music because of the stigma. The timing of my decision was odd. You see, on the day my parents agreed I should pursue music, my grandmother died; I was devastated. As I was close to my grandmother, I felt the

Teen need to write something. I wanted to write a tribute to my grandmother that expresses how much I love and miss her. Upon hearing the song, my dad is impressed. Though, he doesn’t understand the song he realizes it was an excellent effort. He agreed my decision to move to the United States to pursue music was the right thing to do. William: Who are your music influences? Hing: Two of my biggest influences are Metallica because they’re the reason I picked up the guitar and I’ve always wanted to play in a huge stadium with a rock band. The second is Taiwanese singer Wang Lee Hom.
William: What do you wish to present to the world? Hing: I want to express my creativity through my music. I’m not afraid to incorporate Chinese melodies, Indian rhythms and the sound of Malay Kompang into my music. When I create music, I want to show people a piece of me you can’t see such as the Malay and Indian cultures and how I blend them successfully.
William: What is your focus right now? Hing: I’m focusing on my songwriting. I write music to pitch to movies and series and I write with other local artists. Sometimes a producer needs a session singer or a guitar player and I’m happy to do both.
William: Who are the members of your band? Hing: We’re all based in Los Angeles and bring a diverse cultural experience which comes through to our music. My guitarist, Sebastian Jimenez, is from Mexico. My bassist, Austin Ching, is from Hong Kong. Our drummer, Max Bryman, is American.
William: How has the COVID-10 pandemic affected your career? Hing: I can’t personally go out with my band so I’m doing a little of everything. Song writing, composing, and pitching them to movies and series.
William: What have been the best moments of your career? Hing: I’ve had the pleasure of working with many wellknown names in the music industry such as Ariana Grande, Britney Spears, Flo Rida, and Cheryl Cole.
William: What projects do you have in development? Hing: I’m working on four folk indie songs to be pitched for an upcoming comedy movie about two brothers. I’m also working on my personal music with the help of a producer friend, we plan to release a song soon.
William: What’s the best advice you’ve been given? Hing: The advice comes from one of my teachers in the United States, “Nothing is impossible because every barrier is just a hurdle. If you fall, stand up, and come back stronger. There’s a point you can’t give up and you have to keep pushing forward. If you push hard enough, you might find something at the place you want to go”. It really resonates to me. I push my boundaries to make myself relevant in a challenging industry. l
William: What inspires you to write a song? Hing: I’m inspired by anything to be honest. I can play a video game about samurais and get inspired. In fact, I’ve

written about five songs after watching a video game. Simply driving down the freeway here in the United States with my girlfriend is another source of inspiration.

KAIKORERO carries the messages so dear to the younger generations, with the desire to always push the boundaries of traditional streetwear further. KAIKORERO’s essence is about combining the use of industrial materials with classic fabrics and all of their traditional and natural aspects. Because there are so many decisions to be made and festive season responsibilities can become the topic of conversation in the home long before the festive season arrives. it goes. It’s not uncommon to feel the stress ramp up prior to the festive season and find you can relax and breathe only after the festive season is over and life returns to its normal pace. The festive season may not be the best time to pick up that argument you have been meaning to finish with your mother. While there may be unfinished business between family members, which is often a cause for stress and anxiety during the festive season, perhaps another time can be set aside to address conflict and find a resolution. You may find a family member may choose to bring old conflicts to you, and it’s okay to tell them while this is important to address, you would prefer to do so after the festive season so it can be given the appropriate focus it warrants.
3. Mindful eating
Emotional eating and binge eating during the festive season as a way of coping with stress is common and quite easy to sneak up on you because it’s so automatic. Being mindful and paying closer attention to how you eat can help reduce the guilt you might feel post the festive season. Mindful eating as a practice can help you make food choices that allow for indulgence but also helps you associate eating with cues such as being hungry and being relaxed rather than being stressed.
4. Set your boundaries
Whether it be how much shopping you are going to do or how much time you actually want to spend with family, plan for and set your boundaries ahead of time. This can help reduce some of the uncertainty around budget and time. If you need quality time for yourself, make this expectation clear and take that muchneeded walk or workout, despite having a

5. Managing loss

It can be hard to muster up the right amounts of joy and happiness. Reach out to others if you feel sad or lonely and talk about how you feel. Acknowledging how you feel and accepting that it’s normal to have some level of moodiness during the festive season can reduce the self-judgment around this. Seeking professional help prior to the festive season can be a good idea if you feel you’re likely to feel very overwhelmed during this time or might have difficulty coping.

6. Pandemic stress
If you’re worried you can’t celebrate with elderly parents or family members this festive season, it might be important to find alternate ways of being together, whether it be a socially distanced outdoor dinner or an online celebration. The important thing is being able to spend time with those you care about, even if it isn’t the same way as the previous year, there are multiple ways to create togetherness. This year even more than others, the desire to connect with others and take stock of the relationships you do have can feel even more important. Preheat oven to 400 F. Halve bread lengthwise. In heavy-bottomed pot, warm olive oil over medium heat. Add onions, carrots and salt then cook, stirring occasionally, until vegetables just start to soften, 3-4 minutes. Mince 2 garlic cloves and add to pot with mushrooms; cook about 3 minutes. Use spoon to push vegetables to edges of pan then add tomato paste, oregano and cumin to center of pan; saute until fragrant, 1-2 minutes.
Increase heat to high and add beef and pork chorizo. Break meat up with spoon but don’t over-stir. When beef is no longer pink, pour in tomatoes and bring to simmer. Decrease heat to mediumhigh and let simmer, stirring occasionally. While ragu simmers, use fork to mash or whip butter with crema until smooth. Mince or finely grate remaining garlic cloves then stir into crema mixture. Spread crema mixture evenly over bread, trying to cover as much area as possible.
Sprinkle crumbled queso fresco all over and place bread on rimmed baking sheet, cheese side up. Toast 4-5 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbling. Finish under broiler 30-60 seconds for deeper browning, if desired. Cut bread into individual portions. After about 20 minutes of simmering, ragu should thicken and flavors meld. Swirl in additional crema then serve ragu in bowls with cheesy toast or ladle over pieces of toast. (Family Features) l

Teen A COLLEGE STUDENT’S CRASH COURSE IN MANAGING PLAQUE
PSORIASIS
In the spring of 2016, Kate was excitedly preparing for the rites of passage most high school seniors look forward to - prom, graduation, turning 18 and getting ready for college. What she wasn’t preparing for was a chronic illness diagnosis.
I
t started out as a small patch of dry skin on Kate’s neck that began to spread to her scalp in thick, red patches. This must be an allergic reaction, Kate thought, before seeking help at an urgent care center. There, a physician suggested the patches were a fungal rash and recommended special shampoos. But the patches soon covered large areas of her scalp and neck, and were now accompanied by a painful, burning sensation. Kate spent many days trying to hide her patches from other people. Kate visited a dermatologist who prescribed another treatment option, but unfortunately it didn’t relieve her symptoms. As her condition worsened, she saw other specialists, hoping to find some relief. But her symptoms persisted. Now, Kate had to prepare to go off to college while still searching for answers about this unknown condition. “Starting college is hard enough - living in a new place, meeting new people,

starting new classes and activities,” said Kate. “I was focused on trying to hide what was happening to my body. I started wearing a baseball cap and avoided wearing dark clothing.” Kate was determined to get to the bottom of what was going on with her skin. After multiple visits to several different dermatologists, a biopsy finally revealed the truth - Kate had moderate to severe plaque psoriasis. Plaque psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune disease and its exact cause is unknown. Research suggests that an overactive immune system may cause skin cells to pile up on the surface of the skin, which then form psoriasis lesions or plaques and can lead to physical pain, itching, skin tightness and a burning sensation.1 More than 8 million Americans are currently living with psoriasis,2 and plaque psoriasis is the most common form.3

Now that Kate had a proper diagnosis of moderate to severe plaque psoriasis, her next step was to find the right treatment. The first two treatments prescribed to her provided some skin clearance. However, finishing her freshman year at college, Kate was still concerned about her skin plaques. Then, that summer, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved a medication called TREMFYA® (guselkumab), a biologic treatment that selectively blocks a protein in the body called interleukin-23
(IL-23), one of the key proteins thought to be responsible for plaque psoriasis. TREMFYA® is approved to treat adults with moderate to severe plaque psoriasis who may benefit from taking injections or pills (systemic therapy) or phototherapy (treatment using ultraviolet or UV light). In clinical studies, at least 7 out of 10 patients treated with TREMFYA® saw 90 percent clearer skin and more than 8 out of 10 were rated clear or almost clear after 16 weeks. In clinical studies at Week
16, 4 out of 5 people with scalp psoriasis were also rated clear or almost clear of their scalp psoriasis. Also, more patients had improvement in symptoms such as pain, stinging, and skin tightness. The medicine comes in both a pre-filled syringe and a One-Press Patient Controlled injector. t can be especially difficult if you have “severe recalcitrant nodular acne” often referred to as nodular or cystic acne. Cystic acne can be hard to treat and often becomes painful solid bumps that typically erupt on the face, and sometimes also on the upper body. Board-certified dermatologist Dr. Hillary Baldwin, M.D., warns, “If left untreated or unsuccessfully treated, this type of acne can cause visible and irreversible lifelong scars.”

Treatment for mild-to-moderate acne can involve using over-the-counter cleansers, topical treatments or even antibiotics. But if you have nodular or cystic acne, certain types of prescription treatments are required to get it under control and prevent scarring. “Each type of acne is different,” says Dr. Baldwin, “So you need to have open dialogue with a dermatologist to assess your particular case and plan the best course of action to take back your face.”

ccording to experts at the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI), the global leader in de-escalation training for over 40 years, mentally preparing and practicing responses can best ensure non-confrontational experiences. Potential challenging situations could include disagreements over mask requirements or social distancing, family gatherings, shopping lines, acclimating to more densely populated work environments or navigating political discussions. “Having trained teachers, nurses and others who interact with the public, and being a social worker myself, I know the immense need for de-escalation training in the workplace and in everyday life,” says Amber Belle, a global CPI trainer. “Learning conflict-prevention techniques can help ensure you have positive experiences in your community.” CPI has identified probable areas of conflict and how to best mitigate tension. They recommend embracing four simple techniques to prevent and reduce conflict:
1.
Avoid judgment. Understand that everyone has different life experiences and may be overwhelmed with struggles and anxiety from things you know nothing about. Listen and focus on the feelings behind the message.
2. Don’t take it personally.
Another person’s behavior is not about you. You are likely not the true target of someone’s behavior. Tell yourself, “This may not be about the two of us; it may be
about other issues in their life.” Or repeat to yourself, “I’m going to be respectful. I’m going to be respectful.”
3. Control your reactions.
You can’t control another person’s behavior, but you can control how you react. Avoid using facial expressions, gestures and language that could make another person feel anxious or defensive.

1. Check if you need a license. Licensing requirements vary by individual state, but all necessary information is available through your state snowmobile association, state natural resource office or highway department. For example, many states recommend against drivers under the age of 16 and require passengers to be at least 6 years old. 2. Understand your snowmobile before you hit the snow. Spend some time learning the controls and functions of your snowmobile so you can hit the trail with confidence. er path into acting began at an early age, growing stronger over time. Hadar went on take drama classes in school, finding herself realizing this was more than just a hobby. Her foray into theater acting would be the springboard into the world of film, making her debut in Amazon Prime’s AKA Nadia and Incitement. When she isn’t acting and auditioning, Hadar spends her time going to school and competing as a professional equestrian since the age seven. She enjoys singing, going on walks with her dogs (Mylo, Pluto, Lola), lavishing her two cats (Nala and Layla) with attention, and hanging out with friends. Because of her background and schooling, Hadar is fluent in English, Italian, and Hebrew. Born in Israel, Hadar splits her time between London and Rome.

Hadar Cats: I don’t know if this is a real memory or just something I’ve imagined from seeing so many pictures but I believe I remember taking a stool and putting it in the middle of my class at preschool circle time and singing my heart out. William: How did living between London and Rome inform your childhood? Did it affect your current outlook on life? Hadar: Yes, for sure. Having such a multicultural upbringing I believe has made me into a more versatile person. I’ve seen and met people from all around the world and going to an international school has really opened my eyes to other cultures, belief systems, and ways of life.
Hader: I always knew I wanted to be an actress, but it was only in the last two years this fantasy of mine became something I could imagine coming together. I’d say it was when I did my GCSE Drama monologue and my mother told me she was impressed with my performance I thought this was something I could take further. William: How do you decide what you’re going to do next? Hadar: The starting point for me is the character: I need to be drawn to my character above all, because if I’m not
drawn to her then who else would be? And once I have an idea of the character, I like roles which demonstrate a character arc and show a person evolving in some way. William: What’s the best advice you’ve been given? Hadar: The best advice is received from my mother. Knowing I’m very self-critical, it’s ‘Leave the past in the past.’ William: How do you create a personal life? Hadar: I believe balance is important. Although I have a manic schedule with

I’d love to play really iconic roles and create characters on screen that stay with viewers for the rest of their lives. That for me has always been the dream. William: What was your first experience like being in front of the camera? Hadar: I was super nervous. Especially because the first scene I shot, we had about 100 teenage extras who were part of the scene and I really didn’t want to mess up or look unprofessional. William: When did you know you wanted to move into entertainment?

William: Twenty years from now, I’ll be . . . Hadar: I hope a successful actress, with a body of work behind me of which I can be proud, and some interesting projects in the pipeline. William: How do you center yourself? Hadar: I believe when it all feels a bit too much – which can happen to anyone – I like to take a bit of time off and go back to some comfort television like Friends to just take me out of a loop for a while. I normally find that helps a lot. William: Are you happy? Hadar: I consider myself a positive person – we all have our ups and downs. But on the whole, yes, I’m happy.
school, riding, acting, the gym, and homework, I believe it’s really important to save some time in the week for down time, to catch up with friends, spend time with my pets, and do things for myself with no goal in mind. William: What’s most appealing about being an equestrian? Hadar: The greatest thing about horse riding is the unique connection you get to experience with the horse. My horses and I have a special relationship and I feel connected to them not only when I’m

riding them but also when I’m spending time with and looking after them. William: People who really know you use what adjectives to describe you? Hadar: I’d say the people who know me best would describe me as outgoing, kind, and thoughtful. I hope. William: Do you have a favorite possession? Hadar: Not a single favorite possession, but I have a little girl’s dress my great grandmother sewed for my aunt which has been handed down to me and I treasure.

William: How do you plan consistently to do better? Hadar: I’m always striving to better myself and see where I can improve. I believe the moment you stop trying to get better you’ve lost the passion for what you do. I’m always watching films, television shows, reading plays, and most importantly, working with my acting coaches. I like to observe what I believe is done well and work on what I can do to make myself a better actress. William: Do you have “it”? Hadar: I think ‘it’ is in the eye of the beholder, but I’m trying to make myself the best I can be. l
