Cooly Breeze Restaurant & Bar might be Cooly’s best kept secret.

e Gold Coasters like to keep those ‘best kept secrets’ very close to our chest, lest word get out about our fave lesser-known spots.

Which is why the existence of a hidden rooftop haunt ying under the radar right in the heart of Coolangatta may very well be news to many.

A sky-high destination for Mediterranean eats and sips boasting sweeping views of the Cooly skyline.

If you’re not already acquainted with Cooly Breeze Rooftop and Bar, it’s time to be. itting pretty on the th oor, it is the oast’s only fine dining rooftop restaurant with unique views to the southern coastline and the Tweed River surrounds.

With a gastronomy-trained chef at the helm, the views certainly are not the only thing worth heading up for.

For chef-owner powerhouse Marcondes Almeida Neto, Cooly Breeze Rooftop and Bar is the culmination of years refining his craft abroad, after notable stints in the UK and most recently, Italy.

The latter leading to Marcondes uncovering his love of seafood and the stunning Mediterranean coast, and fair enough too, how could you not?

The welcoming space also features those same hints of malfi coast in uence, with cosy lighting, rustic timber features, chic white tablecloths and ickering candlelight adorning the tables.

Lending a charm that feels akin to being welcomed into an authentic Italian eatery.

Of course, that is if you can tear your eyes away from that stunning ocean vantage for long enough to take it all in.

For starters, we’ll certainly be all about the alla sea natural o sters ith finger lime and ginger, though the thought of digging into the signature Bug on focaccia ith avocado, finger lime, alapeno and atermelon radish sounds like the perfect summer dish.

The seared scallops da costa ith alnut butter sauce and cauli o er puree are definitely calling our name.

The e tensive mains offering showcases authentic Mediterranean avours at their finest. eafood features prominently, with the likes of octopus tentacles, saut ed potatoes, capers dressing, fresh herbs and the A half lobster and scallops linguini, made ith caviar, confit tomato and light lemon butter sauce set to steal the show.

There’s a host of e ually enticing dishes from the land, with a vegan paella, made ith ucchini, red capsicum, olives, sun dried tomato, garlic, saffron that’s sure to satisfy absolutely everyone.

To complement the whole e perience, there’s a stacked dessert menu house utella bro nie, Spanish churros, house tiramisu, chocolate lava cake or for those who prefer their indulgence to take li uid form for their sipping pleasure, a stellar selection of cocktails and in case you’re wondering, we’re firmly teamboth.

There is absolutely no reason why we would go home without getting our hands on the signature ainbo artini vodka, l chee li ueur, l chee uice, lavender s rup.

Or two for good measure.

Those taking on the designated driver role need not miss out on the fun, with alcoholremoved wines also available.

For an espe-shell-y indulgent treat, also catch the much-anticipated return of the famous Witches Falls Winery’s Oyster Nights, taking place every week on alternating Fridays and Saturdays from 3pm to 7pm.

repare to clear your calendar because our favourite creepy-cool Hooker Blvd haunt is back with a scintillating new show.

Promising opulence and kink, Menagerie has taken to the Dracula’s stage and it excites in allll the right ways.

There are few names more synonymous with the GC than Dracula’s Cabaret. Our OG theatre experience and one of the few attractions that continues to go from strength to strength (unlike the Broady monorail loop #rip). or as long as we’ve been ocking to the Broadbeach institution, the Dracula’s crew has continued to be known for their ability to put on a bloody fangtastic night out.

For those who grew up alongside that unmissable spooky facade taunting us on our weekly Pac air pilgrimages, it was a very fine day indeed when we were finally old enough to discover what intrigue awaited behind those mysterious castle doors.

And really, have you even been to the Gold Coast if you haven’t been to Dracs? Those mems of queuing in a line down the block, making a fool of yourself on the ghost train, laughing till you cried before finishing it all off with one of those devilishly good coffin desserts and some ashing horns for good measure #IYKYK. The captivating cocktail of fast-paced live music, mind bending aerial acrobatics, comedy, and of course the signature Dracula’s black light puppetry, is back with a new twist (not to mention the actual cocktails, because they’re just more fun in a smoking Tiki mug).

The new production, Menagerie, peers through the fractured lens of nature – revealing a peculiar assortment of curiosities presented for your amusement – which, given the calibre of Dracula’s productions, has our curiosity well and ghouly piqued.

Teasing the chance to witness nature like you’ve never seen before – thrilling, peculiar, and utterly mind-blowing, we have no doubt it will leave you howling. And although the show might be all-new, thankfully we’re still treated to the full three-course dinner and show experience we know and love.

The new show is a wild and wicked ride in more ways than one, with the return of the iconic Ghost Train, back and better than ever after extensive renovations.

Our anticipation levels might be high but the ole’ jump scare tolerance certainly is not – which is to say, even with the iconic citrus mousse coffins on the dessert menu, we’ll definitely be supplying our own i-scream for this ride. (Sorry guys, if you want jokes that don’t suck you’re gonna have to get on down to Dracs).

From opening number to closing curtains, Dracula’s promises a spectacle with bite (and as mentioned we can guarantee their jokes are infinitely better than ours .

The brief was to deliver a coastal inspired, design led space with a sensory immersion through food, wine, cocktails and live fuel cooking methods with the first two-metre Mibrasa charcoal grill and oven in ustralia the venue’s crowning ewel.

Dave adds, “I have always been a huge fan of charcoal and live fuel cooking and dining in a beautifully designed venue. These are ust two of my passions that were part of the inspiration for creating k st. fter an e tensive search, we finally managed to find the perfect location where we could bring this concept to life .

Seizing the opportunity to snap up three previous tenancies, k st has amalgamated the sites into one sprawling super-venue.

The luxurious space boasts an impressive 130-seat restaurant, in addition to a private dining room, bar dining and outdoor pavilion spaces. Though the space is ust as pretty as it is functional, with cascading greenery, marble surfaces, chic lighting and arches a-plenty.

Think Zeytoon Parvardeh, Persian-style marinated olives with pomegranate sauce, crushed walnuts and Persian spices, Mahiche Lamb Shank; slow-cooked lamb neck cooked in a unique turmeric sauce and caramelised onion, and Persian Orange Cake made with fresh oranges and almond meal, soaked with Shriraz’ Middle Eastern spiced syrup, and finished ith cream cheese icing and chopped pistachios. $79 pp (minimum of four).

And for something sweet, have a go of the Bastani Sonati; ice cream with saffron, pistachio and walnuts. $59 pp (minimum of four).

And of course, we’ve saved the best for last, which is aptly named the ‘Shiraz Ultimate Banquet’. It certainly lives up to its title with eight starters, eight mains, and four desserts #ded.

Sink your laughing gear into Mirza Ghasemi; soft roasted eggplant in tomato and garlic sauce, with eggs, Meygoo; marinated king prawns grilled to perfection, Ghafghazi Kabob; a skewer combining grilled marinated chicken breast and marinated rib fillet, and it doesn’t get any better than Lime and Pistachio Cheesecake. $99 pp (minimum of four).

e’re coming in with some incredibly noteworthy information to all #artlovers but also, anyone with a set of eyeballs in their noggin, because our very own Tweed Regional Gallery & Margaret Olley Art Centre is gearing up to welcome an array of truly iconic works – and spoiler alert, we’ll bet good Monet the GC will be lining up to take a peek-asso at this incredible, once-in-a-lifetime op.

No matter if you’re an everyday Joe who has been meaning to get a bit more culture in and around your life, or the most avid of art appreciators, Tweed’s own captivating cultural hub is hosting a brand new (but technically, really, really old) collection of jaw-dropping works – including a painting by none other than THE revolutionary 19th-century French Impressionist Claude Monet. Offering an extraordinary opportunity for locals to experience and wonder at a true masterpiece from one of history’s most in uential and prolific artists.

From 1 November 2023, the space will welcome Claude Monet’s painting Meules, milieu du jour [Haystacks, midday] 1890, which will be on loan from the National Gallery of 26 | insidegoldcoast.com.au

Australia (NGA). A score of this magnitude requires the proverbial red carpet to be well and truly rolled out.

While this momentous occasion might feel like time to assume #panicstations, thankfully we can all take it a little easel. We’ll have plenty of time to soak up this remarkable slice of history, with the painting on display until 26 October 2025.

So, y’know, multiple visits required.

Known as the master of colour and painter of light, Monet is one of the most inspirational and revolutionary artists of any era, forging an entirely new direction for the art world by developing a unique style.

The famous artwork features a recurring exploration throughout Monet’s body of works, showing stacks of wheat from a field behind his house at iverny, a sub ect known to have appeared in at least 25 of his paintings. It was the changing effects of light, rather than the stacks themselves, which fascinated the artist.

In addition to this amazing get, the space is set to showcase four more paintings from the NGA Collection, in the ultimate #sharingiscaring power move. Included in

this very sweet deal are four pivotal works by revered artists Margaret Olley and Girgio Morandi, which will be on long-term loan to the Tweed Regional Gallery & Margaret Olley Art Centre from 9 February 2024 until 11 February 2029 #luckyus.

Of the collection, one artwork is by Italian painter Giorgio Morandi (1890 – 1964) known for his signature style of still life studies, with Natura morta [Still life] 1956 offering a superb example of Morandi’s sublime, tonal explorations of the everyday.

Joining these masterpieces will also be three paintings by Margaret Olley – [Morning Interior] c.1973, Pomegranate I 1976 and Katie’s Quinces 1976, making some stunning and significant additions to both the allery’s awe-inspiring exhibition program and ongoing exploration of Olley’s career, life and legacy.

Olley’s impressive body of works were informed by her great admiration of modern masters such as Monet and Morandi, and travels which took her all over the world to see their work.

Regardless of your art aficionado status, this #mustsee lineup will be a captivating experience. For lucky locals, this dynamic mix of art history offers the unique opportunity to brush up on its evolution and the fascinating relationships between generations of revolutionary artists.

The Brickworks location has been a favourite among locals since 2006 when the team burst onto the Gold Coast grocery scene, bringing a boutique shopping experience that put the big guys to shame.

Perched just a hop, skip and a yum from the G’s Southport tram stop, the conveniently positioned new venue is a #snaccident waiting to happen for lucky passersby.

For owner Kei Okamoto, a well-placed location was the main priority when selecting the new spot for Shiro Gelato & Snack. His

former experience dishing up street food style Japanese eats at markets, combined with head chef Shodai Kawakami’s ten-year culinary expertise is the ultimate matcha made in heaven.

The two-legged fuzzy ball mascot featured throughout the shop’s signage is your subliminal sign to leg it on in to discover the array of treats that await. The interior fit out was handled by the Shiro crew (what can’t they do), with a simply-appointed and welcoming space framed by classic crisp-white subway tiles – while the seductive glow of those house-made gelatos glisten from the cabinet beyond. The intimate, corridor style space offers limited casual seating to lick, sip and savour until the #hanger safely subsides.

For those not familiar with Japanese fare, you might be wondering just want you can expect from the Shiro Gelato & Snack menu.

Think authentic light Japanese bites worthy of quashing the most serious of snack attacks (though, with a couple of Onirigi’s under the belt, you may still feel a lot like rolling on out of there).

The aforementioned savoury specialty Onigiri, is a popular Japanese rice ball lunch and snack dish, as tasty as it is convenient to

Ground N Sound, or ‘GNS’ as true groupies know it, has been adored among Labrador inhabitants since its inception in 2017 as a welcoming and lively spot to linger long beyond the expertly crafted barista brews have been downed.

A café space by day, with an array of vintage armchairs at which to settle in and enjoy the sights and sounds – surrounded by vintage knick knacks and serenaded by the signature playlist of certified bangers.

As the day wears on, cappuccinos are switched for espresso martinis (or something neat, if we’re keeping it a little more ‘rock and roll’). GNS comes to life, assuming its after dark alter ego – as local muso’s gear up to ‘espresso’ themselves in a *slightly* different manner… (same, same but riff-rent.)

On weekly rotation, the mix of entertainment includes local live acts, stand up comedy, music trivia nights, and open mic action for your Sunday sesh pleasure.

The kitchen is cranking out more #1 hits than the Beatles (which was 20, for the record… a handy factoid to retain if you plan on hitting up those trivia nights) with a blend of British and Australian cuisine.

ola in the Mirror is a charmingly lyrical exploration of community and the self, set in the hardened heart of Brisbane’s outskirts. Our protagonist is an artist, a daughter, a drug courier, a brilliant mind and a girl who has had to grow up too fast.

Brought up on the run and without a name of her own, with only her mother and sketch pad by her side, the protagonist survives on the tenacity of her wits and the kindness of others. That is, until an accident leaves her with more questions than ever.

Who was she? Who will she become? Who is she, right now? And who is this beautiful woman in the red dress the girl can summon by speaking just a few words into a mirror? She must rely on the houseless community of Brisbane’s CBD to lead her from one clue to the next, encountering a colourful cast of characters along the way: Brisbane’s underworld drug queen Flora Box, a serial killer with a conscience, an intoxicated Santa Claus on the Shorncliffe train line, a young artist who saw her when she believed herself to be invisible. Dalton’s latest work of fiction asks us if we are more than just the sum of our parts; it asks that if both the past and the future seem to be dragging us, kicking and screaming, in one direction, how far would we go to change our fate – to strive for what we truly believe we deserve?

The family manages 10ha of steep hillside vines in the heart of the Valdobbiadene zone, the best in the region. These are as authentic and delicious as the finest wines from Italy. Made from mostly the Glera grape variety, there’s an elegant bead to this beauty, with lemon barley, white nectarine, and a lovely lees richness. A wine with an opposing soul between seriousness and lightness.

Here’s one of our taster’s reviews: These boo y chocolate truf es with fillings such as Baileys and Peanut, Cherry Liqueur, and Whiskey Ganache with Wafer are sure to delight over the festive months. The Baileys and eanut truf e has, of course, a wonderful nutty texture to complement the smooth creaminess we all associate with a shot of Baileys. The Whiskey Ganache and Wafer truf e also has an appealing crunch - again a combination that works as you bite into the dark chocolate shell and are met with a rich and silky milk chocolate Whiskey ganache.

Meanwhile, the herry Li ueur truf e is uite literally an explosion of Christmas joy in your mouth with a piece of brandied cherry and a boozy fondant centre – careful though, as it’s a li uid filling These truf es are perfect for celebrating with friends, as an adults only Christmas gift, or as a self-indulgent treat to reward yourself for a 2023 well done.
