Southport and an upgrade of Metricon Stadium to seat 40,000 people for the opening and closing ceremonies to name a few.

The Gold Coast City is a young multi-cultural City that welcomes 11 million tourists a year to enjoy its beaches, hinterland, theme parks and many major events - and is the ideal location to attract the Commonwealth’s best athletes.

The Games will also generate up to $2 billion in economic CFOFmUT XJUI VQ UP GVMM UJNF KPCT DSFBUFE CFUXFFO and 2020.

The 2018 Games on the Gold Coast will see infrastructure EFWFMPQNFOU TUJNVMBUJPO BOE EJWFSTJmDBUJPO PG UIF FDPOPNZ BOE XJMM CF BO JOTQJSBUJPO UP UIF OFYU HFOFSBUJPO BOE GVMmM UIF City’s long term development strategy to position it as a major regional centre. Just as importantly, Gold Coast City’s location with its facilities, event expertise, and multi-cultural population will see the attendance of the best athletes, media, corporate, and spectators position the Games as an ongoing major international event. Apart from the compulsory sports, a number of other sports have been added to the program including triathlon, table tennis, basketball, cycling, gymnastics, shooting and wrestling. The lead up to the Games will also kick-start a range of infrastructure upgrades such as new sporting facilities to be built over the next seven years.
