For 23,000 years before European settlement, the Gold Coast was home to traditional owners and custodians, the Yugambeh people.
The first Europeans visited the area to source timber. By the end of the 19th Century, locals from Brisbane travelled by boat to the Gold Coast to spend some time seaside.
In 1885 the State Governor built a seaside home in Southport, catapulting the region into a fashionable resort location for the wealthy and influential.
By 1889 the train line was extended from Brisbane and in 1925, a new coastal road linking Brisbane to the beach was completed. The seaside towns that dotted the coast became an ‘R&R’ haven for the thousands of Australian and Allied Armed Forces during World War II who introduced milk bars and jazz music to local culture.
In 1933 the township around a prominent hotel was named ‘Surfers Paradise’. It became the place to buy and sell land in the post-war real estate boom.
In 1949 the towns from Southport to Coolangatta joined to become the Town of the Gold Coast. While the name was used to describe a real estate boom, it also represented the golden sand, sunshine and healthy living. With peace came prosperity and significant developments were built to secure the Gold Coast’s place as a major holiday destination, known for relaxation, fun and glamour.
The first high-rise was built in Surfers Paradise in 1959. In less than a century, the Gold Coast evolved from a series of seaside villages to one of the most famous holiday destinations in the world.

Enjoying an ideal year round climate and an amazing variety of natural landscapes, including 70 kilometres of famous beach and 100,000 hectares of world heritage-listed rainforest, the region has been attracting visitors since first settlement.
Today, natural wonders are complemented by the largest selection of family theme parks, golfing greens, shopping centres and restaurants.
There are more attractions on the Gold Coast than any other city in the southern hemisphere. It’s easy to see why a Gold Coast holiday is the popular choice.
The activities on the Gold Coast bring smiles to people of all ages and stages.
With exhilarating rides, exotic animals and endless waterslides to help you cool off on hot summer days, your Gold Coast holiday offers a full spectrum of interactive entertainment –from dazzling big budget Gold Coast theme parks to small, hilariously kitsch museums.
Discover something new from pure, adrenalin-packed fun to natural indulgence, the contrasts of the Gold Coast unite to deliver every holiday experience you could desire.
Take on Australia’s highest external building climb morning, day and night.
Adulting is hard. If it’s been a while since you’ve smiled so hard your cheeks hurt, then a day at a theme park, an attraction or an animal encounter might be just what the doctor ordered. So let the nostalgia kick in and head to a place oozing with world renowned ‘kid cred’.
On the Gold Coast, iconic worlds built entirely for those who dare to imagine rise from the sand and sea. Only here can you be shaking hands with your favourite superhero one minute and sliding and splashing your way to wedgies and wrinkly fingers the next. Snack on fairy floss the size of your head, then try your darndest to keep it down with a spine-tingling rollercoaster ride (challenge accepted!).
Flanked by sea and fringed by hinterland, ours is a nosetwitching, wing-beating and tailsplashing haven for a menagerie of creatures that will have you channelling your inner wildlife warrior in no time.
Of course, it’s not all about us adults. Your kids will love making their own memories too and will be buzzing about their visit long after they pass out on the backseat of the car on the way home.
Many travellers think they know what to expect on Australia’s Gold Coast; the brilliant beaches, the Surfers Paradise nightlife and dozens of theme parks. But there’s much more to explore than the traditional travel guides are willing to admit.
So if you want anything in the way of indigenous kayak tours, wreck diving or parasailing, swimming with the sharks or cuddling a koala; you can do it on the Gold Coast and it is all within 40 minutes drive. After all that daytime adventure, you may just want to relax in your room listening to the waves wash upon the shore.
Or experience the Gold Coast nightlife as the city’s bars, clubs, restaurants and attractions draw locals and visitors out into the sparkling night.
It’s big-city nightlife 365 nights a year, but if you want something more, there is always a touring international act, football game, music festival or the like happening so you can join the carnival when events arrive in town.
It’s easy to see why a Gold Coast holiday is the popular choice. Families, couples, business delegates and solo travellers will all find an experience to suit their needs and budget on the Gold Coast.
We all love the big theme parks and sunny beaches, but many people forget about all of the other attractions that makes the Gold Coast such a well-rounded and varied holiday destination.
Today, underrated Gold Coast attractions such as winery tours, walking trails, Broadwater cruises and mountain drives are just as popular as the theme parks and beaches.
Clear your calendar because our favourite creepy-cool Hooker Blvd haunt is back with a scintillating new show. Promising opulence and kink, Menagerie has taken to the Dracula’s stage and it’s bound to excite you in allll the right ways.
There are few names more synonymous with the GC than Dracula’s Cabaret. Our OG theatre experience and one of the few attractions that continues to go from strength to strength (unlike the Broady monorail loop #rip). For as long as we’ve been flocking to the Broadbeach institution the Dracula’s crew has continued to be known for their ability to put on a bloody fangtastic night out.
For those up who grew up alongside that unmissable spooky facade taunting us on our weekly Pac Fair
pilgrimages, it was a very fine day indeed when we were finally old enough to discover what intrigue awaited behind those mysterious castle doors. And really, have you even been to the Gold Coast if you haven’t been to Dracs? Those mems of queuing in a line down the block, making a fool of yourself on the ghost train, laughing ‘till you cried before finishing it all off with one of those devilishly good coffin desserts and some flashing horns for good measure #IYKYK.
The captivating cocktail of fastpaced live music, mind bending aerial acrobatics, comedy, and of course the signature Dracula’s black light puppetry, is back with a new twist (not to mention the actual cocktails, because they’re just more fun in a smoking Tiki mug). The new production, Menagerie, promises to peer through the fractured lens of nature – revealing a peculiar assortment of curiosities presented for your amusement - which, given the calibre of Dracula’s productions, has our curiosity well and ghouly piqued.
Teasing the chance to witness nature like you’ve never seen before – thrilling, peculiar, and utterly mind-blowing, we
have no doubt it will leave you howling. And although the show might be allnew, thankfully we’re still treated to the full three-course dinner and show experience we know and love.
The show is a wild and wicked ride in more ways than one, with the return of the iconic Ghost Train, back and better than ever after extensive renovations. Our anticipation levels might be high but the ole’ jump scare tolerance certainly is not.
From opening number to closing curtains, Dracula’s promises a spectacle with bite (and as mentioned we can guarantee their jokes are infinitely better than ours). Missing out on the magic the Dracs team cooks up is a big no fangs from us, so do yourself a favour and get amongst it. From $109 per person including a top notch threecourse feed, or upgrade yourself to the full #VIP treatment from $139.

Unveiling Menagerie: Dracula’s new extravaganza of exotic delights
We’ve been undergoing somewhat of a cultural revolution – nowadays we’re totally spoilt for arts and cultural events. These days, there’s more entertainment options than you can poke your theatre binoculars at.
We’ve got some brand new contenders to our thriving entertainment lineup that are so hot off the press that they’re still a little steamy. Dust off the sequins, clear the calendar and prepare to be dazzled, daaahlings –because The Pink Flamingo Spiegelclub has two brand new extravaganzas gracing its stages that are even more daring and boundary pushing than anything they’ve done before.
Ever since this saucy little minx of a destination shimmied its way onto Broadbeach’s nightlife scene, the only thing flowing more freely than all the LMAO’s, OMG’s – and in the case of the acrobatic stunts – the WTAF’s, is all that champas on account of the VIP bottle service. When it comes to the Pink Flamingo Spiegelclub, it’s not just about the show; it’s the whole experience, baby.
It’s not often we’re treated with a theatre where the surrounds are every bit as show-stopping as the main event,
but those glam, Art Deco inspired digs are srsly worthy of a visit alone. The new show Zirque La La replaces runaway success show The Glitz after its exclusive 12 month run. Bringing together a fusion of heart-stopping acrobatics, sultry burlesque, cabaret and comedy, “Zirque La La is everything you love about the circus with a special Pink Flamingo twist, packed with acrobatic and aerial abilities you must see for yourself to believe.”
With the Spiegelclub headed by co-owners Tony Rigas, the visionary of The Pink Flamingo, and Sue Porrett who literally ran away with the circus as a child, their dream to bring brilliant circus nostalgia to Broadbeach has finally come to fruition with the launch of Zirque La La. Jumping though all the hoops to bring us a jaw-dropping new show, the preparations for Zirque La La began with an international casting call to source some of the rarest skills from circus acts from all around the globe.
For anyone who has been known to throw their back out by simply *getting out of bed in the morning* (can relate), prepare to be thoroughly shocked and awed by these thrilling world-class acts.
From hair-raising stunts by aerial artist extraordinaire Nini Storm, suspended from the ceiling by her hair alone – or in the case of the resident ‘Strong Man’ Desko Amat, by only his teeth during his mind-blowing ‘dental jaw’ manoeuvres. Another option, if you prefer your shows a little less risky and a little more risqué, straight from the streets of Paris’
Crazy Horse cabaret club vibe, Forbidden is one of the most sizzling, hottest shows the city has ever seen. Featuring the best of acts from legendary cabaret, Forbidden consists of a series of highly aesthetic scenes by a cast of eleven classically trained, male and female dancers clad in costumes that leave little to the imagination, so, y’know more skin than Burleigh beach on a summer’s day.
Forbidden is ‘Provocative, daring, and scintillating adult entertainment for those ready to leave their inhibitions behind’, so the performers may not be the only ones breaking a sweat here guys #itsgettinghotinhere. Gather up the besties and one-and-only’s, because this show is the kind of mandatory viewing that is far saucier and sexier than any Bachelor season.
For the The Pink Flamingo Spiegelclub dream team, they believe the fun doesn’t have to stop when the sun goes down – and their mission to see the glitter strip sing after dark is quickly becoming a reality.
Locals and visitors continue to flock to this theatrical wonderland for some must-see entertainment, a VIP experience and a night filled with flamboyance (which also happens to be the collective term for flamingos – how very #fitting), fun and frivolity.

With our pumping breaks and ‘surf above all else’ mantra, a few surfing world champs that we call mates and a culture that hangs its hat, and its heart, on boards, bikinis and beach bags, it’s safe to say we know a thing or two about getting salty ‘round here. Our beaches are as iconic as those who patrol them and our kids grow up learning to swim before they can walk. We surf check on the daily, talk about waves with anyone and business deals are often done in boardrooms that have sets rather than tables.
We’re active and healthy, riding cruisers, getting gnarly on skateboards or running to keep ourselves fit. Our weekends are spent beachside sipping coffee, and we might even get frothy with a beer or two. We live by the beach, and are fuelled by its energy; it’s our tonic, a ritual and our muse.
The Gold Coast caters to every on-water activity imaginable where thrill seekers can choose from jetboating, parasailing, kite surfing, diving, jet-ski safaris, snorkelling, cruising and yachting.
Enjoy deep-sea fishing, marvel during a whale-watching tour, take in a guided cruise of the waterways or simply swim among the surf at some of the best beaches in the world. A learn-tosurf class guided by world champions is a must-do, as are paddling and kayaking explorations.
In addition to the Gold Coast’s famous beaches, it also boasts a spectacular network of waterways made up of five main
rivers, numerous creeks, lakes, canals and the magnificent Broadwater. Some 480 kilometres of rivers and streams, as well as 774 hectares of lakes, dams and canals wind their way through the city’s landscape.
The vast range of complementing waterways makes the city a haven of fun-filled pursuits with good times assured among the numerous aquatic attractions.
You will find boat ramps and fishing platforms in most suburbs, waterfront parks and barbeque areas to enjoy with the family. Do not miss the walking tracks along most beaches and waterways to take in the beautiful scenery of the Gold Coast.
Standing on the banks of a body of water for hours on end can either be the most relaxing time of your life or hell on earth depending on several factors.
These include but are by no means limited to:
1. How “good” you are at fishing
2. Where you’re attempting to fish
3. Whether you’re actually fishing at all (perhaps you’re lost)
In the name of diversity, we’ve compiled a list of five local fishing spots and you can thank us by bringing the fish you catch for our dinner, because we are not fishing people (fisherfolks?).
Here you go (from north to south).
The prettiest of spots and perfect fishing for everyone from beginners
to old hands. Pack your deck chairs, an esky and your favourite fun time friends and spend the day throwing in lines and reeling in your catch. There’s flathead, bream, mangrove jack, all the usual suspects and plenty of scenery to scope out should they not be biting. Where: The Esplanade, Paradise Point
THE SEAWAY
Makes sense, since this huge, very fast moving body of water joins right up to the big old ocean (as do most, but you know what we mean). There are many a fishy to be caught off the rocks here including yellowtail, jewfish, kingfish, flathead, the list goes on. It’s not for the faint of heart though, you’ll need to learn to master the tides.
Where: The Spit, Main Beach
Southport’s new(ish) jetty quickly became a fave fishing spot amongst locals. Perhaps because there are a few different ocean dwelling types on offer there. Rays are plentiful, as are squid (by night) and you can sit back and gawk at all the fancy boats whose inhabitants are probably stealing your fish.
Where: Broadwater Parklands, Southport
In Elanora, this particular body of water is fed by Currumbin Creek and you can fish there pretty much anytime of the day or night. Seems there’s lots of potential in here including mullet, herring, trevally, mangrove jack, bream, flathead, whiting and crabs (if that’s the kind of thing you’re keen to catch).
Where: 22 Araucaria Way, Elanora
The Tweed River doesn’t get enough props if you ask us. So blue and expansive and all those pretty trees and good times to be had. Just lovely. Anywho. You can also fish there of course. From the banks and in the weedy areas flathead are plentiful, there’s also mangrove jack around the rocky areas.
Where: Tweed Heads, NSW
Words by Kirra Smith Story from insidegoldcoast.com.auThe further south you go on the Gold Coast, the more space you find.
Southern precincts such as Currumbin, Kirra, and Coolangatta are idyllic coastal communities defined by their own individual stretches of subtropical coastline.
From one of the world’s best surf breaks to some of the Gold Coast’s laziest secluded coves, the southern stretches are an inviting part of Australia’s iconic beach culture.
The general vibe of these areas is laid back and organic but each has its own wonderful village personality.
Currumbin is an active community where lovers of watersports, hiking and nature take advantage of the Currumbin Creek waterway; linking pristine rainforest mountains to open golden beaches.
The Currumbin Valley leads visitors easily into a World Heritagelisted rainforest, the Cougal Cascades waterfall, abundant native flora and fauna, and the pristine eastern section of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia.
Kirra is rated by international surfing superstars as one of their favourite point breaks on the planet, while locals and visitors are also drawn to other iconic hot-spots including Currumbin Alley and Snapper Rocks.
Whale watching on the Gold Coast provides a fantastic opportunity for onlookers to get up close and personal with the largest living mammals on Earth.
The waters along the Gold Coast are commonly referred to as the Hump Back Highway with approximately 25,000 viewing opportunities during the annual migration up and down the coast of Queensland.
The advantage of having to travel just 10 minutes out to sea to witness these giants in their natural habitat, ensures a funfilled couple of hours whale watching with plenty of time left in your day to appreciate the many other attractions of the Gold Coast.
Running from June through to November, the Gold Coast boasts the longest whale watching season in the country.
The whale watching season marks the migration of the Humpback Whale from Antarctica to warmer Queensland waters before they return with their newly born after covering a mammoth distance during their amazing journey.
During the Gold Coast whale watching season, visitors are given the rare opportunity to spot Humpback Whales, whale calves, dolphins, Killer Whales and ‘Migaloo’ the famous white Humpback, all in their natural habitat.
Coolangatta is an authentic microcosm of old-school Aussie surf culture where Kombi vans fill beachfront car parks and retro buildings are complemented by signage from the ’60s and ’70s, giving the area a vintage film-set feel.
Burleigh Heads provides the complete package with barrelling waves, a scenic headland and a cosy coastal setting.
The panoramic southern Gold Coast setting of unbelievable landscapes, tropical views and listed national parks is highly suitable for family fun.

With an unmistakable focus on fresh produce, the restaurants of the Gold Coast have taken advantage of the region’s local flavours to build a diverse dining scene.
Families, foodies and holidaymakers can delight in restaurants with ocean panorama views sprinkled along the coast-line and relish in tropical fruits, the freshest seafood and local produce.
Be it romantic high-tea, lively night-time beachfront markets or the freshest fish and chips overlooking the glittering city, the Gold Coast offers a sensory feast to suit all palates.
Prominent chefs, restaurateurs and producers from the southern capitals and around the world have ensured locations such as Main Beach, Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach, Coolangatta and the Hinterland remain highly regarded for their delectable choice of dining options.
Similarly, relaxed beachside cafes, funky hole-in-thewall bars and more casual eateries are in abundance to ensure a taste to suit every style.
The Coast is a place where night bites, hatted restaurants, street-eats and breweries are all served with a side of alfresco; a place where five-star feasting means dusting the sand from your feet; where surfers swap their boards for a latte at sun-up and little ones break from beachside frolics to feast on epic spreads of fish and chips.
There is an endless variety of Australian and international styles complimented by the freshest of produce and delivered in some of Australia’s most inspired restaurant precincts. Tedder Avenue at Main Beach is a favourite for many locals with an abundance of always fabulous restaurants and chic little cafes.
Surfers Paradise has undergone significant beautification and now offers a more cosmopolitan and friendly dining experience.
Every possible style of restaurant and café can be found in between the boutiques and fashion stores.
Broadbeach is now the cosmopolitan living centre on the Gold Coast. Many of the region’s hottest and most modern dining and drinking establishments have leapt into life along the streets and beachfront boulevards of this district.
Outside the main metropolitan precincts is an assortment of attractive venues to arouse the gastronomic interest of every traveller.
Be adventurous and try kangaroo meat and a local drop high in the hinterland or the Moreton Bay Bugs and a native brew while sailing the calm Broadwater at sunset. Similarly, beachside cafes, snack bars and budget priced eateries are in abundance to ensure a taste to suit every style.
From Burleigh’s perennially popular rooftop bars to communal eateries in Palmy, fine dining at Broadbeach to reinvented venues in Surfers, there is a renaissance stirring up the Gold Coast culinary scene.
Vegan eateries sit alongside revamped rooftops and converted warehouses, and foodies mix money-can’t-buy views with iconic surf clubs, food trucks and local espresso haunts; and once the sun goes down, speakeasy vibes and cosy rum hideaways add another flavour to the scene – which is as diverse as it is energetic.
Whether you find yourself among the cool crowd at Nobby Beach, or part of the social scene in Broadbeach, consider yourself an acai aficionado, a sausage sizzler or a coffee connoisseur, nothing says you’ve had a cracker-of-a-holiday quite like gaining a little extra padding around the middle. Bon appétit!
Everyday should be a picnic day.
On the Gold Coast we are blessed with pretty spectacular weather year-round, which means picnics are high on the agenda. Thankfully we have no shortage of pretty spots to throw down a blanket for a spot of cheese and biccies with friends.
Here’s a list of 10 of our favourites.
This underrated hinterland destination will be your new favourite picnic spot. There are several parks that surround Hinze Dam, so take in the stunning scenery, sip on a cold glass of bubbly and generally enjoy the company of family and friends. There’s a BBQ area, kids playground and even a small cafe in case you need fresh supplies.
Mt Tamborine is a picnicker’s paradise and has more picnic areas than a year has days, Cedar Creek Falls being by far one of the best. Driving up the winding roads and taking in the scenic beauty is almost enough entertainment, but that’s not all. Cedar Creek Falls are located just metres from three waterfalls and countless walking tracks, making it the perfect place to spend your next Sunday.
This little oasis nestled in Surfers Paradise (most commonly used for getting around the GC500 every year) is great for picnic dates of all sorts. The tranquil setting with cascading water
running through the park is home to many birds (including peacocks), so don’t forget your stale bread. There’s also that super fun bridge previously built for the Indy in 2007.
Hard to believe that this beautiful little piece of paradise is just a mere 10 minute drive from Surfers Paradise. Take the whole family or soak up some solo serenity, it’s the perfect setting for both and anything in between. There’s even a butterfly garden for your gazing pleasure.
CASCADE GARDENS, BROADBEACH
Cascade Gardens can be found between Surfers and Broadbeach and there are plenty of barbecue and undercover picnic shelters. This peaceful riverside sanctuary is the perfect date spot and with a huge area to run around, it’s also popular for families wanting to keep the kids entertained for hours.
In unsurprising news, Burleigh Hill is probably the most popular picnic spot on the Coast. You can’t beat the Instaworthy views overlooking the Surfers Paradise skyline. If you want to get a good spot on a Sunday get there early `cause the whole Gold Coast likes to unite here to see and be seen.
Next to North Burleigh Surf Club the park offers great people watching and a few BBQ areas perfect for that Sunday
arvo picnic with the gang. Walk up Miami Hill and take in the views or have a sneaky swim in the ocean.
The battle between which side to choose continues. But no matter which is your go-to, Talle Creek won’t disappoint as a favourite picnic spot. The calm creek waters are perfect for a little splash before devouring your mobile buffet. Beware the hungry bush turkeys!
Not many people know about this pretty but somewhat hidden picnic spot in Currumbin Valley. It’s the perfect spot to get away, relax by the creek and pop in for a dip. There are no toilets or BBQ stations and uninhibited nature is purely the theme here, so go prepared. Drive along Currumbin Creek Road and take a right turn at Bains Road, the park is situated just over the bridge.
Kirra Lookout is the Burleigh Hill of Coolangatta, just not as busy and with more parking opportunities (we like the sound of that). You can either drive or walk up, but be warned, it’s quite steep, you’ll burn off your picnic before you make it to the top. Enjoy the view whilst nibbling on some crackers and sipping on an icy cold one, it’s pretty special!

They don’t call it the Sunshine State for nothing – the Queensland sun is beautiful, but can be very harsh on your skin and cause lifelong health issues.
To protect yourself and prevent sunburn, always remember the following tips:
• Apply and reapply SPF 30+ sunscreen regularly throughout the day
• Wear a hat and a collared shirt
• Try to stay indoors during the hottest part of the day (10am – 2pm) or ensure your apply extra protection during those hours
The Gold Coast’s beaches may look inviting, but both visitors and locals must keep in mind that the ocean can by very dangerous.
Follow these tips to ensure your safety at the beach:
• Always swim between the flags at designated lifesaving clubs on the Gold Coast
• Never swim without telling someone where you are going
• Swim to your limits – don’t go out in the deep water if you are not a confident swimmer
• Never swim under the influence of alcohol
• Be water wise and enjoy the beaches responsibly
Hiking. It’s an acquired taste but if walking long distances for the sheer joy of it floats your boat, where better to indulge than the picturesque Gold Coast.
There are many places to trek around outside the comfort of your Netflix binge zone and here are five of them (from a literal walk in the park to the mother of all hiking adventures, in that order). Don’t forget water bottles and snacks.
APPLE TREE PARK TRACKS
Sounds delightful doesn’t it. The park itself is actually a possible starting point for entry onto The Great Walk but allows your tired bones a bit of respite if 54km of walking is slightly out of your comfort zone (yes, hi). You can pretty much walk as far as you like, for as long as you like and then turn around and walk back for a picnic in the park. Take healthy foods so your walk doesn’t feel like it’s in vain.
START: On Springbrook Rd next to the Springbrook Mountain Chalets.
NATURAL BRIDGE
No doubt you’ve (at least) seen snaps of the stunning little spot that is Natural Bridge. A literal rock bridge in the middle of the rainforest complete with a sparkly waterfall and so much beautiful greenery and fresh air and relaxing wilderness noises. It’s a stunner and a fairly cruisy downhill walk to get there (bit slippery on the bridge so
watch your step) and through the trees. Obvs it’s uphill on the way back but you won’t even notice you’ll be so chilled out. Make sure you’ve got a camera to capture the magic.
START: Follow the signs towards Springbrook and then you will see signs for Natural Bridge on Natural Bridge Rd.
Saying you’ve circumnavigated something is, quite frankly, a dream that’s always been somewhat unattainable. Until now. It’s possible to walk the entire way around South Straddy and, while it might take you a while (it’s 21km long and 2.5km wide) it’s well worth it for the breathtaking views. Walking from the western side to the east will only take you around an hour so that’s quite relaxing. All the way around will take you at least a day so ensure you pack provisions. Once you’re done, you should definitely stop in at Tipplers Licensed Cafe because a hard earned thirst needs a big, cold beer.
START: Take the ferry from Hope Island and start your walk from wherever your little heart desires.
Keen for a day of walking? Neither, but there are some folks who might be. To those people we say, get on board the Toolona Creek Circuit. The first part will take you to Picnic Rock and along the Toolona Creek to the falls. From
there you can detour to the lookout for a rest and gaze lovingly out at the Tweed Valley, Mt Warning, Byron Bay and Straddy (hi hiking friends).
Sounds chill enough except the entire track will probably take you around seven hours too. Prepare before you go and if it gets too much, turn yourself around and head home. Good luck.
START: Head to Canungra and follow the signs to Lamington Plateau, Green Mountain Car Park aka O’Reillys.
THE GREAT WALK
Go hard or go home right. This one’s a doozy and you might want to carve out a good chunk of time for the 54km trek. It’s best to start at Lamington National Park and finish at Springbrook and they say to allow three days to complete the walk (sheer joy remember).
You’ll skirt around the rim of the Tweed Volcano and pass through the ancient lands of the Yugambeh people. Maybe put in a bit of practice with other walks before you set out on this little adventure, it ain’t for the faint hearted. Take plenty of water, camping gear and ensure you’re equipped for all weather possibilities.
START: From the Pacific Motorway, take the Nerang exit (exit 69 from the north, exit 71 from the south) and follow the signs to Lamington National Park.
