’est dans un nouveau hall de la porte de Versailles, plus vaste, que le salon Pack & Gift s’installe, les 8 et 9 juin 2011. L’ancien bâtiment ne pouvait plus contenir le nombre d’exposants et de visiteurs : en effet, le succès de cet événement, consacré à l’emballage promotionnel et au gift, ne se dément pas. “L’année dernière, nous avons accueilli près de 2 500 professionnels, responsables marketing ou d’agences spécialisées, se souvient

Comment créer l’événement ?

Certains misent sur l’exceptionnel, qu’il s’agisse de la collaboration ou de la réalisation technique. C’est alors un produit d’image, promis à une belle et dense couverture médiatique.

Peu peuvent s’offrir le luxe du coffret L’Accord Whisky et chocolat. Vendu en exclusivité chez Lavinia au prix de 280 € la pièce numérotée et signée, il est le fruit d’une collaboration entre Ballantine’s et Patrick Roger. Le chocolatier a imaginé, pour entourer le

Sold exclusively at Lavinia at a price of €280, numbered and signed, it is the result of a collaboration between Ballantine's and Patrick Roger. To surround the prestigious 12 years old whisky, the chocolate maker devised a solid chocolate sculpture weighing over four kilograms.

t will be in a new hall, even bigger, at the Porte de Versailles that Pack & Gift show will take place on the 8th and 9th of June. In fact the former site could not contain any more exhibitors and visitors. This is because the success of this event dedicated to packaging and promotional gifts, is undeniable.

De son côté, ce sont deux blocs sculptés telle une cave creusée dans la craie qu’a imaginés l’artiste américain Daniel Arsham, pour Perrier-Jouët. Une œuvre diptyque créée à l’occasion du bicentenaire de la maison de champagne.

Mais il ne suffit pas de séduire sur papier glacé : encore faut-il créer l’événement en linéaire. Et là, les marques doivent redoubler d’imagination pour transformer un concept éprouvé, souvent un coffret en carton, en objet de désir. Première étape : s’assurer que le coffret sera assez attirant pour provoquer l’acte d’achat, puis pour être conservé. C’est

pourquoi toutes les marques pensent à les doter de cales amovibles. Une stratégie choisie par Lancôme, sur ses éditions limitées printemps 2011, réalisées par Knoll Packaging. Contenant des formats voyage de 5 à 30 ml, il reproduit, en toute logique, une petite valise, tandis que sa fenêtre transparente le transforme en publicité sur lieu de vente (PLV).

Pour Noël 2010, La Prairie a été encore plus loin dans le luxe avec ses coffrets Caviar & Radiance Treasures. Une fois la cale ôtée, se découvre une boîte à bijoux, dont l’habillage marie satin et faux cuir doré ou argenté.

“Anis et mauve pour le Premier Parfum, elle se colore en corail et en dentelles pour L et affiche avec impertinence son imprimé à pois doublé de prune pour Si Lolita”, annonce la marque.

L’autre technique consiste à ajouter une fonctionnalité à son coffret. Ainsi, Moët & Chandon a décliné, en différentes tailles et en différentes couleurs, sa Chill Box, dessinée par l’agence R’Pure et industrialisée par Virojanglor. Le polypropylène expansé (PPE) transforme la base de l’étui en glacette maintenant le champagne au

frais. Pour les fêtes de fin d’année, Partisan du sens a imaginé, pour Perrier-Jouët, le Dandy Jacket. Conçu en néoprène, cet habillage, réalisé par ATS, facilite le transport à température idéale. Dans le même ordre d’idées, Nicolas Feuillatte a voulu, pour ses 35 ans, marquer le coup. Parmi les trois objets promotionnels, la maison a développé un sac à glace au motif bayadère. Initialement prévu pour accueillir glaçons et bouteille de champagne, il peut aussi se transformer en vase.

But it’s not enough to seduce with glossy paper, it is still necessary to create a linear event. And here, brands must redouble their imagination in order to transform a concept into an object of desire. The first step: make sure that the case is sufficiently attractive

to not only lead to its purchase, but also to keep it. This is why brands are now opting for removable padding. It is a strategy chosen by Lancôme, with their limited edition for spring 2011, produced by Knoll Packaging.

Containing travel format sizes, with capacities of 5 to 30ml, it resembles, quite logically, a small suitcase, whilst its transparent window turns it into point of sale advertising display. Last Christmas, La Prairie went a step further into luxury with their Caviar

& Radiance Treasures presentation boxes. Once the padding is removed, a jewellery box is revealed, complete with satin lining and gold and silver faux leather.

Dual use With the purchase of an 80ml eau de toilette or a 50-ml perfume and a complementary product, Lolita Lempicka offers 5ml miniatures contained inside miniature hat boxes. “Anis and mauve for Premier Parfum, L is decorated in coral and lace, and

Si Lolita displays its frivolity with its polka dot flower print,” says the brand.

Another technique is to add functionality to the case. Thus, Moët & Chandon produced their Chill Box, designed by the R'Pure agency and manufactured by Virojanglor in various sizes and colours. The expanded polypropylene foam transforms the base of the case into a cooler, for keeping champagne chilled. For the holiday season, Partisan du sens designed the Dandy Jacket for Perrier-Jouët. Designed in neoprene, this covering, manufac-

tured by ATS, allows for easy transport at the ideal temperature. In the same vein, Nicolas Feuillatte wanted to mark their 35 year anniversary. Among their three promotional items, the house developed an ice-bag with a striped motif. Originally designed to contain ice cubes and a bottle of champagne, it can also be used as a vase.

Also with this objective of functionality, Veuve Clicquot launched Dandy, whose implementation was entrusted to Interesting Sourcing. Behind its simplicity, the marketing brief concealed considerable its technical complexity: producing a piece that is able to seal the bottle, but also to carry it. The R

Le résultat est la reproduction d’un manche de parapluie. L’une des extrémités se pend au bras, tandis que l’autre garantit un hermétisme parfait. Le bouchon s’enlève par simple pression.

Cela facilite le conditionnement, chez nos clients, et la réutilisation par les consommateurs finaux.” C’est à l’entreprise française que l’on doit l’habillage des éditions Noël d’Armani.

Le gift ne se limite pas aux packagings secondaires, mais décore, de plus en plus, les flacons de parfums. Ainsi, Trésor in Love de Lancôme se caractérise par une rose en satin, fabriquée à la main, par Papillon Ribbon. En plus de dissimuler le large col du flacon, elle le rend unique et fait office de cadeau : amovible, elle se porte en bague. Et, pour la fête des Mères, la marque R

“It's a nod to the fashion house since this material is used for the straps of bras,” says Alexis Armengaud, sales head for the packaging division of Papillon Ribbon. “But it is not their only purpose: they can be worn as headbands. Everything has been carefully planned, with the ribbons being wider for men.” The company has also made textile decorations for the Christmas boxes of Armani, Narciso Rodri-

guez, and also Dior. “The ribbons are cut to the size of packaging and are elasticated,” says Laurent Géry, CEO of Oriol et Fontanel. “This facilitates packaging, with our clients, and their reuse by the end users.” This is the French company behind the packaging for the Christmas editions from Armani.

Gifts are not limited to secondary packaging, but equally, increasingly, to perfume bottles. Thus, Trésor in Love by Lancôme is characterised by a handmade satin rose, by Papillon Ribbon.

In addition to concealing the wide

neck of the bottle, it makes it unique and acts as a gift. When removed, it can be worn as a ring.

And for Mother's Day, the brand took it further and added a finishing touch by adding a Swarovski crystal. It is attached around the neck as a pendant by a silk cord.

It is a logic that has persuaded more than one brand. On Acqua Allegoria by Guerlain, the ribbons detach to become a buttonhole decoration. Carolina Herrera is surfing this trend and has made CH L’eau, her new cologne, with a tassel, made by Cosfibel. Suspended from a rivet, a satin rib-

The ensemble reproduces a suitcase with a removable handle, attached by rivets. The same theme of travel inspired Diesel at Christmas. Their his and hers Fuel for Life, and Only the Brave fragrances are contained in a small suitcase. Made of cardboard, it is covered with glossy paper and has a transparent window at its centre. Lolita Lempicka extends the theme for Mother's Day. However, the brand goes further into realism by offering their Premier Parfum, L and Si Lolita in veritable mini trunks. If they are anecdotal or poorly designed, they can end up being counter-productive and harmful.â&#x20AC;?

The initiative is therefore a dou-

ble-edged sword. But herein lies the whole issue: how to take the least risks, whilst differentiating yourself. Part of the answer lies in graphic design. It does not cost much more to get greater impact.

The Indian designer Viduthalai Raj has thus designed the Never Wasted shopping bag for Lee. To convey an environmental message, the jeans brand goes far beyond simply opting for recycled paper bags. L’initiative est donc à double tranchant. Mais là est toute la question : comment prendre le minimum de risques, tout en se différenciant ? Un élément de réponse réside dans le graphisme. À coût égal, l’impact ne l’est pas. Le designer indien Viduthalai Raj a ainsi conçu, pour Lee, le

shopping-bag Never Wasted. Pour véhiculer un message environnemental, la marque de jeans va bien plus loin qu’opter pour du papier recyclé. Elle prévoit, non deux, mais de multiples usages pour son sac. “If they buy one, we them samples of two others. This targeting is important in order to monetise this quite expensive operation.”

Indeed it is by targeting that brands ensure the effectiveness of this type of promotional campaign. “With our distribution being very exclusive, our advisors are able to assess the impact of samples upon sales,” says Carole Pestel, marketing director for La Colline.

For suppliers, the trend is already widely identified and anticipated.

“Brands plan a veritable launch strategy, in which samples are an essential step,” says Isabelle Lallemant, marketing director for gifts and promotion at Aptar Beauty + Home. “The emphasis is on quality, not quantity.” This is

because samples are increasingly a vector for image: they must convey the desired discourse and positioning. While Penhaligons opt for a card displaying the iconic silhouette of their bottle, others go further. Lolita Lempicka decorates their sprays with a personalised ribbon, made by Seram, which are then carried on bags or with keys.

Aptar have also launched the clip-card, which helps prevent the spray going off accidentally, whilst also fulfilling the role of padding. The spray can then be combined with an envelope, a fabric, a ribbon or thin cardboard.

And so the challenge for industry is to increase the possibilities for customisation and therefore

Dans l’esprit de David Napier, responsable France des parfums Penhaligons, les performances et la rentabilité des échantillons ne sont plus à prouver, même si la recette du succès comprend quelques subtilités. “Après le send profiling, nos vendeurs identifient avec la cliente ses trois fragrances préférées, décrit le responsable.

Si elle en achète une, nous lui offrons l’échantillon des deux

autres. Le ciblage est important pour rentabiliser cette opération assez coûteuse.”

En effet, c’est en ciblant que les marques s’assurent de l’efficacité d’une telle campagne de promotion. “Notre distribution étant très exclusive, nos conseillères sont capables d’évaluer l’impact d’un échantillon sur les ventes”, assure Carole Pestel, directrice marketing de La Colline.

Du côté des fournisseurs, la tendance est identifiée et déjà anticipée. “Les marques planifient une véritable stratégie de lancement, dont les échantillons sont une étape primordiale, remarque Isabelle Lallemant, directeur marketing gift et promotion d’Aptar Beauty + Home. La place est à la qualité, et non plus à la quantité.” Car l’échantillon apparaît, de plus en plus, comme un vecteur d’image.

Mais, si les industriels sont vigilants au respect des performances du produit mis en vente, ils ne sont pas moins conscients de l’importance de la gestuelle. Selon une étude menée par Investcom sur 4 000 femmes, en 2010, 86 % déclaraient préférer le vaporisateur pour l’échantillon de parfums.

Deux en un - Two in one Faire découvrir. Cette mission première de l’échantillon, les marques ont décidé de l’optimiser. Les industriels l’ont compris et, là encore, l’offre ne manque pas. Aptar Beauty + Home a ainsi prévu, dans sa collection Travel in the Air, une petite enveloppe comprenant trois ou quatre échantillons (photo ci-dessous). De son côté, Cofatech a développé Walipack, un échantillon accueillant deux produits complémentaires. L’un est conditionné dans le sachet, constitué de trois feuilles de complexe assemblées par soudure thermique, tandis que l’autre se situe dans la petite poche. La formule a séduit le groupe Clarins. À l’occasion du lancement d’Aura de Swarovski, une eau de toilette ou de parfum était ainsi associée à un soin pour le corps.

À l’occasion du jour de l’an chinois, Graham’s Port a imaginé trois coffrets.

“Les couleurs éclatantes sont inspirées de la culture asiatique, précise l’agence de design, Symington Family Estate. Le noir, le rouge et le vert expriment, tout à la fois, la joie et la prospérité, l’équilibre et l’harmonie, le pouvoir et la virilité.”

Quant au graphisme, il reproduit la porte en ferronnerie datant de 1890 et gardant l’entrée du domaine Malvedos, au Portugal.

Thanksgiving, c’est l’occasion pour les foyers américains de remercier Dieu des bonheurs et des réjouissances reçus pendant l’année. Devenue laïque, cette fête est célébrée le deuxième lundi d’octobre, au Canada, et le quatrième jeudi de novembre, aux États-Unis. Pour les cosmétiques Khiels, elle a été l’occasion de cette édition limitée. L’étiquette peut se personnaliser, directement sur le lieu de vente, avec des messages aux êtres aimés.

To celebrate the Chinese New Year, Graham's Port has designed these three presentation cases. “The vibrant colours are inspired by Asian culture,” explains the design agency, Symington Family Estate. “Black, red and green, express at the same time, joy and prosperity, balance and harmony, and power and virility.” The graphics are inspired by the ironwork gates dating from 1890 which guard the estate entrance of the Malvedos vineyard in Portugal.

Quelle tenue choisir pour Halloween ? Pour aider ses clients à résoudre cette annuelle question, l’agence GS Design a imaginé 400 Costumes to Die For. Le coffret donne instantanément le ton : les têtes du couvercle, en pivotant, rehaussent différents corps costumés. À l’intérieur, se dissimulent deux dés, l’un comprenant des noms, l’autre, des adjectifs. Il suffit ensuite de choisir entre un Elvis zombi, un super gnome ou encore un clown dangereux.

Chaque jour, pendant la fête juive d’Hanukka, il est de tradition de s’offrir des cadeaux. L’un d’eux pourrait être ce gift pack imaginé par Bols Genever. Le défi technique consiste en un coffret qui, s’il est découpé, supporte néanmoins le poids de la bouteille et des deux verres en tulipe.

Tout comme les full moon parties, les fêtes de la pleine lune, qui enflamment, tous les mois, la plage de Ko Pha Ngan. Plus de 20 000 personnes s’y retrouvent pour boire, pour danser. Chacun dispose de son seau, rempli de boissons, ainsi maintenues au frais. Pour les participants, Singha a imaginé une série de trois seaux, fabriqués à la main en cuir de vachette et réalisés à seulement 60 exemplaires.

Which dress to choose for Halloween? To help customers solve this annual dilemma, the agency GS Design has designed 400 Costumes to Die For. The case immediately sets the tone: the heads on its swivelling cover can be aligned with various the costumed bodies below. Inside there are two dice, one with names and the other with adjectives. Then it is just a matter of choosing between a zombie Elvis, a super gnome or perhaps a killer clown.

Every day during Jewish celebration Hanukkah, it is traditional to give presents.

One of these could well be this gift pack designed by Bols Genever. The technical challenge lay in the case which, whilst cut, still support the weight of the bottle and two tulip glasses.

Thai buckets In Thailand, beers brands are an institution.

Like the full moon parties every month on the beach of Ko Pha Ngan. More than 20,000 people go there to drink and dance. Everyone has their bucket full of drinks to keep them cool. For them Singha have designed a serie of three buckets, hand made from calfskin and in a limited edition of just 60 units.

After forty days of Lent, Easter is celebrated with an egg. In Russia, the aperitif is subject to specific rules: fish eggs are eaten with a glass of vodka. These are brought together
