On Monday, November 5, 2018, Ms. Theresa Brotherton Sneed, loving mother and grandmother entered into eternal rest at the age of 97 with family by her side. Ms. Theresa Brotherton Sneed was born on March 21, 1921 in Lewisville, Texas to the late Mr. & Mrs. Luther Brotherton Sr. Her immense influence and impact on her family is immeasurable and she will be greatly missed but not forgotten. She received her childhood education from the Public School of Dallas and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. She received her operations course in cosmetology at the Dallas Madame C.J. Walker College of Beauty Culture in 1940 as well as her teacher training in 1945. Subsequently, Ms. Sneed was tasked with supervising the Beauty Culture Department of Brady Training School for Negro Girls before taking the position as an instructor at the Madame C.J. Walker College of Beauty Culture. She held a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science and History from Bishop College (Summa Cum Laude). She obtained her Master’s from Prairie View A&M, where she also served as Assistant Dean of Women. Later, she embarked on a career in education in the Dallas Independent School District where she taught at James Madison High School, was on the inaugural staff at L.G. Pinkston High School, when it opened to serve the community of West Dallas, and worked as a Regional Career Counselor for (DISD). She was employed by many other schools within the district for over 30+ years until her retirement from John B. Hood Middle School in 1991.

Alpha Alpha chapter of the Alpha Phi Omega Sorority, the Dallas Association of Counselors, the Texas State Association of Negro Beauty Culturist, the NAACP, the Y.W.C.A, American Vocational Association, and the Dallas Black Chamber of Commerce. Ms. Sneed was a dedicated and beloved member of the Alpha XI Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.®️ As Golden Soror her roles included Basileus, Dean of Pledges, Undergraduate Advisor, a contributor on numerous committees, and a mentor to many. In addition to her many years of service within the sorority she shared the bonds of sisterhood with her granddaughter Theresa, her sister-in-law Elora, and her niece Hazel. Ms. Theresa Brotherton Sneed rejoins her much loved older brothers Luther Brotherton Jr, Lee Gilbert Bilal “L.G”, and grandson Darryl B. Sneed who preceded her in death. ReRe, as she was so lovingly called by close friends and family is survived by her younger brother Marvin A. Brotherton (Elora) and only child Wendell B. Sneed (Gayla).

She leaves to cherish her memory to her five loving grandchildren, Michael D. Sneed (Dorothy), Kevin G. Sneed (Carmen), Kerry L. Sneed (Teresa), Theresa G. Sneed-Hardy (Myron), Khalil B. Sneed (Angel), and her combined 11 great grandchildren; Mykel, Myesha, Jeriah, Caden, Tristan, Morgen, Madison, Maleia, Khalil Jr., Kayla, Kyra. Her Brotherton legacy is carried out by her many nieces and nephews and their families, that she so affectionately called her Her personal relationship with Christ led her children. to become an active member of St. John Baptist Church.
