Greetings from your Director The Inland Northwest Chapter of the Buick Club of America (BCA) has existed for a little more than a year and in that time, we have come a long way. Many thanks to Alan Thiese for being the driving force for our founding in August 2017. I am very proud to follow Alan as our Chapter’s Director. Our membership stands at 17 with new members about to join us. Marketing our Chapter has been very important. Jeff Schindler, our Social Media and Activities Director, has done a terrific job with our web site and newsletter, as well as being our Chapter photographer. Additional credit also goes to Jack Gerstkemper, Pacific Northwest Region Manager of the BCA. While at the BCA National Meet in Denver, June 2018, all Chapters were announced during the Awards Dinner, typical for these dinners. Our Chapter was not included, perhaps because of our Chapter’s youth! Jack interrupted the Master of Ceremonies to make the correction and said “let’s hear it for the new Inland Northwest Chapter in Spokane.” The attendees, numbering many hundred, broke out in a great round of applause. Also, in June, we had our 1st Annual Beautiful Buicks by the Lake Car Show at Jamie Wolff’s lovely home at Liberty Lake. It was a great success and look forward to next year’s show. In September, we had three cars at the Historical Auto Society of Spokane and Inland Empire (HASSIE) annual Car Show, Mirabeau Park: Grant Person’s 1940 Sedan, Jamie Wolff’s 1954 Century Convertible and my 1951 Special DeLuxe. This was followed by a Chapter display at Becker Buick GMC, Spokane in October. We had seven cars displayed by Alan & Sandy Thiese, Todd Smith, Greg Lewis, Lee & Carol Branum, Jamie Wolff, Dick & Doris Gludt from Troy, ID, and son Doug Gludt and his wife, Lisa, from Lewiston, ID. Becker Buick Sales Manager, Sergei Kvokov, noted that he would like to make it an annual affair. We agree. For the coming year, we have tremendous Chapter officers in Todd Smith, Assistant Director; Debby Roberts, Secretary; and Lee Branum, Treasurer; Jeff Schindler, Social Media and Activities Director; Alan Thiese will be Member at Large. I hope that we can increase our visibility as a Chapter by greater participation with the three BCA chapters on the west side, North Cascade and Puget Sound Chapters in Washington, and the Portland Area Chapter in Oregon. Jack Gerstkemper has offered to help us facilitate and coordinate the interaction. My hope for the coming year is that we can build on our firm Chapter foundation and increase our visibility and continue to fulfill our purpose as stated in our Washington State Articles of Incorporation: Acquisition, restoration, use, and enjoyment of automobiles produced by Buick Motor Division, General Motors Corporation; Exchange of ideas and information; Promotion of the enjoyment by members and the public of antique, classic, and special - interest Buicks, and of favorable public opinion towards them; preservation of Buicks, which are now or will become antique, classic, or special - interest vehicles. Have a Happy New Year! Greg Lewis BCA #5071

Wildcat wanderings CALLING ALL INWBCA BUICK ENTHUSIAST, urgent need for you to share your Buick automotive story with the group here in your newsletter. Tell us about your current Buick, how it found you, how you have tenderly cared for it, your quest to locate missing pieces and get the Buick whole. Maybe your Buick has an unusual story or history within itself. Maybe this is your 12th classic Buick and we just have not heard the story yet, well this is your platform to share that story. Share your relationship with the Buick automobile. Maybe your Buick is in pieces (as is mine) share the story. I can share stories and pictures of late 40’s and 50’s Buicks all day long because that is what I seek out and that is what finds me in unusual places, would love to read about early Buicks thru the late 40’s, anyone? You can mail in your hand written stories along with a few accompanying photos to help illustrate the path the Buick has traveled. Type letters will work well in this situation, or email. What ever works for you we just need content ( words and images) so I am not rehashing my limited Buick history every other issue, you will get more of my 1953 Buick saga next month. Found these 1946-1947 Buicks in an rural eastern WA salvage yard this past summer, as I scour backyards, over fences and salvage yards for solid parts for my 53 2dr roadmaster 76r. Of course I asked about purchasing both, the answer was NO. I asked about the Visor, I pulled out cash, he says NO. So they sit, I would love to hear there story.
