1965 Buick Electra 225 by Todd Smith
Original Craigslist Picture
1965 Buick Electra 225 Custom Convertible This is my third 1965 Buick. The other two are a Wildcat Custom Coupe, and LeSabre Convertible. However, I am most excited about this Electra 225 Custom Convertible. I purchased the car from its 4th owner in October 2017 from a gentleman in Cranbrook, BC who was a pensioner who no longer had the desire to drive and maintain the car. Since that time I’ve had the power windows rebuilt, and installed new driveshaft bearing, shocks, springs, tires, and u-joints. Fortunately it came with some Riviera Rally wheels that give it a great sporty look The factory options for Electra wheels were anything but sporty. Planned improvements is a trip to the body shop to correct the right rear quarter damage on the tail that pushed up both the quarter panel and the trunk lid. That will likely also turn into a paint job. The chrome work is showing its age and the bumpers and pot metal need to be refinished. The stainless fortunately is all there and looks really good! Under the hood I plan to detail it out and install finned aluminum valve covers, a JET performance quadrajet, electronic ignition, and many other detailing improvements. The receipts for the car show that the engine was rebuilt 10,000 miles ago and the ST400 transmission less than 1,000 miles ago. I can attest that it runs great! The brakes are new and function as good as drum brakes will. A front disc brake upgrade is planned as well. Am also planning to upgrade the lights to LED. There are several companies that put out these upgrades while maintaining a factory look. The headlights will be new units, but the remaining locations will just receive direct fit bulb changeouts. As that occurs I will share the products with the club so anyone who is interested can investigate for themselves. Biggest surprise to date has been discovering that the factory color was Silver Cloud Poly! I had thought for sure it was Flame Red and that a subsequent respray had resulted in the non-original color. Lastly, I am seriously considering making the trek to Oklahoma next June! The return leg would be via Route 66 through Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and then up through Las Vegas and Salt Lake City. As the date nears I hope to see others interested as well.
