Snapshots from the Anniversary
Innis Celebrates its Golden Anniversary with Style Innis College launched the year-long celebration of its 50th anniversary on January 23rd with a program full of amazing speakers and musical performances. The evening started off with welcomes from Principal, Janet Paterson and Vice-Principal, Roger Riendeau and continued with remarks from Innis alumni through the decades interspersed with musical interludes from Innis Staff and Students. Celebrations concluded with a special advanced screening of Devil’s Knot, by award-winning filmmaker and Innis alumnus, Dr. Atom Egoyan. This amazing evening was a great way to kick off a year of celebrations in true Innis fashion. As the first Vice-President of the ICSS, Robert Patrick said, “I left Innis in good spirits and with the feeling that Innis is in good hands and that its future is bright for all those associated with college.”

Using a uniquely Canadian lens this panel will investigate the struggle for minority recognition and inclusion in Canada for the groups who came to settle in Canada as well as for those who already had far reaching roots in the country. Pan Am Games Volunteers to Get Help with Student Loans The Ontario government has announced that about 4,500 college and university students who volunteer for the 2015 Pan Am and Parapan Am Games in Toronto will be exempt from making a pre-study financial contribution, ensuring they can receive a larger student loan, to account for the fact they volunteered instead of taking paid jobs during the summer. Also, new graduates who volunteer during the Games will be able to defer paying back their student loan until one full year after completing full-time studies, which works out to be an additional 6 months before interest is charged on the loan. The Games will require approximately 20,000 volunteers. For more information, visit: toronto2015.org/volunteer-during-the-games
