ICSS Social! As you may have noticed in the Frosh schedule, the ICSS Social Reps have organized this year’s first Social Event for this Friday night! This event is not limited to Frosh participants, so come out to the Fox and the Fiddle at 9pm to meet up with your fellow Innis Students in a casual, school-free setting. There will be karaoke, free food, non-alcoholic drinks (and other beverages) available, so bring your T-Card and your ID and have a good time!
Registrar LATE REGISTRATION FOR 2015-2016 FALL/WINTER SESSION If you have not paid tuition (or officially deferred your tuition) for the upcoming session, then you must make the minimum payment on your 2015-2016 Fall/Winter Fees immediately in order to be registered. If you are making this payment after 25 August, you will need to show our office your proof of payment so we can manually register you and prevent you from losing your courses. If you are deferring your fees after 25 August, you must contact the Innis Registrar’s office immediately. Please do not delay! We have limited time to help sort out last minute payments and official deferrals. Note: Any fees still remaining from previous sessions must be paid, either by adding them to the minimum payment for the upcoming Fall/Winter Session (which is calculated on your invoice) or paying them in advance of deferring your fees.

Residence INNIS Residence welcomes the Greenlid! Two brothers, Morgan and Jackson Wyatt, both UofT grads who lived at the INNIS Residence throughout their undergrad years, appeared on CBC’s Dragons’ Den back in February to present their Greenlid design - an innovative, compostable organic waste container for kitchens. Morgan, who holds a PhD in Chemical Biology, and Jackson, who is in Industrial Design, combined their expertise in microbial metabolism and design to create the Greenlid. Every part of the Greenlid has been scientifically designed to make composting easier and cleaner. The container is constructed from end of life recycled cardboard and newsprint using a proprietary leak resistance formula that enables it to hold four litres of the wettest organics. The Greenlid will remain leak resistant for up to 10 days in the kitchen but the container will quickly break down when exposed to active bacterial and microbial cultures found in municipal compost facilities and home compost piles. While in use in the home, the Greenlid is sealed with a washable, reusable lid that keeps all the smells locked in. When the Greenlid is full, users simply replace the re-useable lid with a compostable lid and place it in their municipal green bin or home compost. Starting this September 2015, the Innis Residence is pleased to be the first student residence in Canada to use the brothers’ Greenlid product. A supply of Greenlidshave been placed in each suite throughout the residence, and the Wyatt brothers are hoping to make a return to the Residence this fall to present their product to the current residents. PANCAKE BREAKFAST/IKEA TRIP:
5
INTRODUCING: Christian Ramirez, IRC President
Innis Residence is putting on a trip to IKEA on Sunday, September 13th for those who need to get extra things for their new home in the city. The day will begin with a pancake breakfast, which will be held in the Events Room from 9:30AM – 12PM. The trip to IKEA will run from 12 – 4 PM. This event is geared towards students who are living in Innis Residence, but you can email IRC’s Social Director, Victoria Wilson at victoria.wilson@mail.utoronto.ca to see if there are spots available for commuters.
Hi everyone! I’m Christian Ramirez, the Innis Residence Council (IRC) President. I’m a third year student, double majoring in Cinema Studies and Biological Anthropology. Most people ask me (some jokingly, some not) if I want to make films about animals, but I actually don’t have any particular reason why I chose that combination. I liked humanities and science so I did both! I’m someone who needs to be involved so in my first year, I became a Jr. House Rep for IRC. After that, I just continued my involvement, and am now the president of the council! My goal is to be a fantastic representative for the residents, and to create a great foundation for other student leaders to flourish in. I love being a student leader here at Innis because we truly get to have a voice. Many of the events, programs and initiative are run by students, so it provides us with ways to gain skills and have a say in what happens in the college / residence. I hope to be able to at least get to know some of you and hope that you all have great year at Innis College!
