Meet the Innis Communications Team!

Hey Innis! The Communications Team has worked very hard this year to provide all Innis Students with up-to-date information on events happening at Innis College and the greater Deadline Extended: TH THURDSAY, APRIL 11 at 4:00 PM Innis College offers scholarships that recognize leadership and extra-curricular activities each year; there are scholarships available to both graduating students (whether graduating in the coming June or the previous November) and students returning in the coming fall. university campus. Alex Berceanu has put countless hours into making amazing posters for various events, as well as formatting the entire newsletter. Sukhmanpreet Dhindsa has been filling the pages of the newsletter with interesting and helpful content. Joshua Caron has updated the website, so that information on events is readily and easily accessible. Randy Hanbyul Lee has captured many moments on camera at various events to include in the newsletter. Overall, the Communications Team strives to provide an accessible, fun-to-read source of news for all Innis students!

Recap CIE Open for New International Students

New U of T President Visits Urban Studies Food Drive!

U of T’s new president, Meric Gerlter, visits students from the INI 235Y: Introduction to Urban Studies as they present their year-long projects. Students contributed a total of approximately 180 volunteer hours to food banks as part of the class’ service learning module this past January and February. On Wednesday March 27th, 2013, students who participated in a variety of service learning opportunities across the city presented posters about what they learned by combining classroom learning with service learning. As part of this session, students collected non-perishable food items to be donated to various food banks. For more photos from this event, visit http://innisphotos.tumblr.com/

Exams are quickly approaching! Similar to last term, the Office of Student Life will be providing free coffee and regular Xbox Kinect playtime in the Events Room. Commuters and residents are all welcome to use this study space during exam time!

Recap Innis Choir sings their hearts out! The Innis College Choir gave a phenomenal performance at Hart House on March 16th, 2013. Students had been working hard all year to perform a diverse repertoire of pieces ranging from traditional folk songs, such as “Simple Gifts”, to pop songs such as “Some Nights” by the band FUN. Those who attended were asked to make a donation towards the Innis Town Hall Revitalization fund.

The Centre for Community Partnerships is looking for leaders to work in a team with other Project Leaders, with CCP staff, and community organizations to manage all aspects of planning the Alternative Reading Week Program in 2014. The Project Leader position is an excellent opportunity to gain leadership skills, get experience in working collaboratively with community organizations, and develop project management competencies. Get involved in an activity that truly benefits communities and students. Community Outreach CIE Open for New International Students

Friends of Forsaken Animals (FOFA) Looking for Volunteers for April Register to Volunteer! The Office of Student Life at Innis has partnered up with FOFA during the month of April, where FOFA will be doing a month long adopt-a-thon with PetSmart (404 and Leslie in Richmond Hill). They are in need of volunteers to help with spending time with the pets, clean them, feed them and play with them if time allows. Volunteers can commit to as little as one hour, or as many as they want over the month. TDSB Tutors in Schools Volunteers Needed for 2013/2014 This is an opportunity for you to use your knowledge and skills to benefit students in the secondary system. If you are selected, we will provide you with the training and preparation to help build capacity in your local community and to contribute to the City of Toronto’s efforts to revitalise our neighbourhoods. Tutors work in partner schools to help teachers to support learning in their classrooms. Students will help with whichever subjects they feel most comfortable and competent working in. Partner schools are located all over the city, and students can state their geographical preferences. The Cinema Studies Student Union (CINSSU) will be hosting an event to celebrate the end of a successful year. The Camera Stylo is the annual undergraduate Cinema Studies Institutes Film Journal. Food and drinks will be served. Annual journals will also be provided for free! These journals include the best film papers written by film students this year.

Jane’s Walk is a series of conversational walking tours inspired by urban thinker Jane Jacobs, that helps put people in touch with where they live and with each other. Since its inception in 2007, Jane’s Walk has happened on the first weekend in May in cities across North America, and is growing internationally. Skills for Success Resources for Graduating Students Career Centre

The Career Centre is providing resources and services for graduating students and students looking for summer jobs. Some services include resume and job search which includes online resources, resume and cover letter essentials workshops, resume tutorials, employment coaching and job listings. Services specifically designed for graduating students include Recent Graduates Employment Services (RGES) where students are provided with employment listings, job search support and help with career choices for up two years following graduation, next steps conference and a recent graduates job fair.
