Innis Lights Up the Night at Diwali Last Monday, Innis celebrated Diwali, the festival of lights celebrated in India. In the event hosted by the Spirituality and Diversity portfolio, students learned about the history of Diwali and painted Diyas, small clay lamps lit by oil and a cotton wick, commonly lit in homes during special events. Innis also celebrated Diwali by lighting sparklers; traditionally in India people have fireworks! Although, not traditionally a part of Diwali, Innis Students became further immersed in Indian culture with henna and cultural dishes including samosas, pakoras, and Indian sweets!

How to Save the World in Your Spare Time "Somewhere in the world, perhaps in the back of your mind, lurks a thought so powerful that - once released - it will spread rapidly and forever change life on Earth. I once thought that idea would be French toast ice cream, but that's a story for another day. My deepest, darkest fear is that the person who has this thought chooses to ignore it, and simply opens another beer, thereby condemning humanity to a bleak century of suffering. So let's take a minute and make sure you know which of your ideas deserve to be spread with enthusiasm." The Most Important 15 Minutes of My Day "No matter how busy I am, I try to allot 15 minutes a day to brainstorming new ideas. ... doesn’t mind if none of the ideas see the light of day. For him, it’s a mental workout, the brain’s version of an elliptical machine. It makes your creativity muscle stronger, which lets you solve problems better in every part of your life." A Book: Predictably Irrational by Dan Ariely "Why do our headaches persist after we take a one-cent aspirin but disappear when we take a fifty-cent aspirin? Why do we splurge on a lavish meal but cut coupons to save twenty-five cents on a can of soup? When it comes to making decisions in our lives, we think we're making smart, rational choices. But are we?" Read the rest at: http://www.amazon.ca/Predictably-Irrational-Revised-Expanded-Edition/dp/0061353248
