Chablé ha creado el primer spa totalmente construido en el interior de un cenote. Cada una de las salas de tratamiento cuenta con vista directa al cenote y la sensación es de que forma parte de la selva circundante. Gracias a todos estos elementos cuidadosamente diseñados, este sparesort 5 estrellas, que se extiende a lo largo de 750 acres de la selva maya de la Península de Yucatán ganó el “Prix Versailles 2017 Award” para el hotel con la mejor arquitectura y diseño. Del 1° al 4 de noviembre, el enigmático “Cenote de la Vida” fue la sede de la celebración a los difuntos a través de la tradicional ceremonia maya, la actuación de Kenia Brown, que interpretó canciones alusivas a la fecha y la participación del Museo Frida Kahlo Riviera Maya, el cual, gracias a la alianza con Alltournative, se sumó a esta festividad aportando un inigualable performance interactivo, dando como resultado que esta experiencia sea única, mágica y extrasensorial. Tampoco faltó la degustación de platillos típicos de la región elaborados por manos mayas y su grata sazón, y como ya es toda una tradición en la región, se llevó a cabo un recorrido por los altares montados por habitantes de Tres Reyes y comunidades aledañas.

Festival Internacional de Cine Tulum Se llevó a cabo la rueda de prensa de la primera edición del Festival Internacional de Cine Tulum, un encuentro que pretende convertirse en un foro que promueva la conciencia social y ecológica. El festival contará con cinco sedes donde se presentarán 25 películas y 110 invitados de la industria cinematográfica. Las sedes del festival serán el hotel Papaya Playa y el complejo residencial Aldea Zamá, y las películas se proyectarán al aire libre y en salas construidas con materiales naturales. The Tulum International Film Festival offered a press conference to announce its first edition. The festival pretends to be a forum that promotes social and environmental awareness. The festival will have five venues that will present 25 pictures and welcome 110 guests from the film industry. These venues will be distributed between Papaya Playa hotel and the residential development Aldea Zamá. The movies will be projected on an outdoor screen and in cinema rooms made of natural materials.

Esta bella criatura es sin duda uno de los símbolos más representativos de la fauna de las selvas tropicales de México. El mono araña es un animal de complexión delgada, cabeza pequeña y extremidades muy largas y esbeltas. Su rasgo más distintivo es su larga cola prensil, que utiliza a modo de quinta extremidad. El mono araña posee el sistema social más complejo de los monos del continente americano; si te adentras en nuestras selvas, sobre todo si lo haces al amanecer o cuando el sol está a punto de ocultarse, podrás apreciar bandadas conformadas hasta por 50 individuos, balanceándose de rama en rama en las copas de los árboles, un espectáculo muy bello, sobre todo cuando estos grupos incluyen madres que llevan a sus pequeños prendidos de su espalda. Por desgracia, el mono araña está en grave peligro de extinción al enfrentar serias amenazas, que van desde la pérdida de su hábitat natural, la caza para obtener su carne, un manjar muy popular en el sur de México desde tiempos prehispánicos, y el robo de sus crías para la venta ilegal de animales exóticos. Actualmente, se llevan a cabo grandes esfuerzos para salvar a este precioso habitante de las selvas mexicanas a través de programas de reforestación y educación. Tú puedes colaborar con la conservación de este mono donando a las distintas ONG’s que trabajan para recuperar sus poblaciones, como la WWF, que actualmente realiza grandes esfuerzos para salvar a muchas especies en peligro y sus hábitats.

The spider monkey is a slight build animal with a small head and very long and lean limbs. Its most distinctive feature is its long, prehensile tail, which this monkey uses as a fifth limb. The spider monkey has the most complex social system of the monkey species in the American continent. El Sereque

También conocido como agutí, es sin duda el roedor más bonito de México. Quienes ven a este curioso animalito por primera vez, podrían confundirlo con un conejillo de indias o con una ardilla de gran tamaño, pero lo cierto es que estos animalitos son una especie totalmente aparte. Existen 11 subespecies de sereque, de las cuales una de ellas pertenece a las selvas de la Península de Yucatán. Los sereques son de tamaño mediano y están cubiertos de un grueso pelaje color marrón con matices que pueden ir del negro, al rojo, naranja o gris. Este lindo animalito se alimenta de los frutos y nueces que caen de los árboles; al comer, los sereques se paran sobre sus patas traseras, como lo hacen las ardillas. Una peculiaridad de este roedor es el número de dedos que poseen en sus patas, cinco en las patas frontales y tres en las traseras, lo cual les da una forma de caminar muy especial. Además, las patas del sereque son muy fuertes, y le permiten dar saltos de hasta dos metros, una habilidad muy útil para escapar de sus depredadores. El sereque es una criatura precavida, y le gusta enterrar el alimento sobrante para recuperarlo después, un comportamiento que tiene una gran importancia para el ecosistema, ya que sin quererlo, este lindo animalito se convierte en un gran sembrador, ayudando a la dispersión de distintas especies de plantas. Por desgracia, el sereque, al igual que muchas otras especies de fauna silvestre, se encuentra en peligro de extinción debido principalmente a la pérdida de hábitat. Si visitas la Riviera Maya es muy probable que te encuentres con algún ejemplar de esta hermosa especie. De ser así, no lo lastimes, además de ser una criatura inofensiva, juega un papel fundamental en el equilibrio de nuestro valioso ecosistema.

The Agouti Undoubtedly, Mexico’s most beautiful rodent. When we see this peculiar little animal for the first time could confuse it with a Guinea pig or a large squirrel, but they are actually a completely different species. There are 11 subspecies of agouti, among which one is native of the Yucatan Peninsula. The agoutis are medium size, and their bodies are covered with a thick, brown coat with black, reddish, ginger, or gray hues. Unfortunately, the agouti is seriously endangered, mainly because of the loss of their habitat. If you come to visit the Riviera Maya, you may find some specimens of this creature. If so, don’t hurt them, they are harmless beings that play a fundamental role in the balance of our precious ecosystem.

El Coatí El coatí pertenece a la misma familia que los mapaches, es un mamífero de tamaño mediano, cuerpo compacto, pelo grueso de una tonalidad parda o rojiza. Las dos características más distintivas del coatí son su larga cola anillada y su nariz larga y flexible, que le brinda a este gracioso animal un gran sentido del olfato, además de ayudarlo a encontrar alimento. Además de su adorable aspecto físico, el coatí es famoso por su gran sociabilidad. Las hembras suelen vivir en comunidad con otras hembras y crías, y es común ver grupos grandes moverse juntos de un lugar a otro, mientras que los machos se separan de su grupo al alcanzar la madurez y se vuelven solitarios. El coatí también es un animal domesticable, y algunos pueden llegar a ser muy amigables con las personas, aunque si te encuentras con un ejemplar en estado silvestre, no trates de tocarlo, ya que los machos en estado salvaje pueden ser huraños e incluso agresivos. Los coatíes también son muy conocidos por su gran inteligencia y por su agilidad, y son capaces de trepar árboles con gran rapidez. En lugares como parques naturales, hoteles y zonas arqueológicas puedes encontrarte con estos animales y verlos de muy cerca. Es importante que tomes en cuenta que aunque puedan mostrar un comportamiento social y amistoso hacia ti, debes evitar tocarlos, acariciarlos o alimentarlos. Como todas las especies de la naturaleza, el coatí tiene una función muy importante en el equilibrio de su ecosistema, y es necesario para la cadena alimenticia de nuestras selvas, ¡su dieta nunca debe incluir comida para humanos!

The two most distinctive features of the coati are its long, ringed tail, and its large and flexible nose, which gives this lovely creature a great sense of smell and helps it find food. The females live in communities with the young, and it is common to see them in groups, moving from one place to another. The males separate from the group when they become adults and become lone animals. The coati can be domesticated, and some specimens can be very friendly with people. However, if you find a wild coati do not try to touch it, wild males can be sullen and even aggressive. The coati is known for its great intelligence and agility, and it is a great tree climber.
