Mayakoba Celebra el Año Nuevo Chino Fairmont Mayakoba festejó la llegada del año nuevo chino con una celebración que incluyó una ceremonia tradicional y una deliciosa cena estilo chino en el restaurante “El Puerto”, además de elementos típicos de la cultura china, como linternas flotantes. El año nuevo chino es una de las fiestas asiáticas más importantes a nivel mundial, y marca el inicio de un nuevo ciclo lunar. De acuerdo con el calendario chino, 2020 es el año de la rata de metal, animal que se asocia con la prosperidad, la persistencia y la supervivencia. ace apenas algunas décadas, Tulum era un pequeño pueblo de pescadores en la costa del Caribe mexicano. La enigmática zona arqueológica que le da su nombre es testimonio de la grandeza de la civilización maya, y la única ciudad maya situada junto al mar. Su mar turquesa guarda uno de los tesoros más preciados del continente: el Arrecife Mesoamericano, la segunda barrera coralina más grande del mundo; y tierra adentro se encuentra la exuberante selva maya y la red de ríos y cavernas subterráneas más grande del mundo. nly a few decades ago, Tulum was a small fishermen village located on the coast of the Mexican Caribbean. Today, this heavenly place has become one of the world’s most recognizable touristic destinations. The unrepeatable ensemble of elements that shape what we know as Tulum do not exist anywhere else. The enigmatic archeological site that gives the town its name is a testament to the greatness of the Mayan civilization, and the only Mayan city located next to the sea. The turquoise waters of the sea keep one of the most precious treasures of the continent: the Mesoamerican Reef, the world’s secondlargest coral barrier. El concepto surgió en Francia en los años treinta a partir de un grupo de artistas, escritores e intelectuales, quienes crearon un modo de expresión que se distingue por una cierta indiferencia hacia las estructuras impuestas por la sociedad, tomando como marco de referencia al pueblo y la cultura gitana. Muchas personas de todo el mundo consideran a Tulum como un espacio de reconexión y sanación espiritual, donde existen centros holísticos y una forma de vida consciente. Al mismo tiempo, en la zona se ha acuñado el término “Tuluminati”, haciendo referencia a un

A few years ago, I set out on a trip around the world to witness nature’s most vivid colors with my own eyes. I climbed big mountains and contemplated the purest and clearest white ever seen; I visited the deepest juggles, and I can tell that every single day I found a different shade of green. I went to the desert, and my eyes saw the most diverse tonalities of brown, which melt in reddish glimmers when kissed by the sun. This is how I became a professional color observer. I arrived in Tulum to find the perfect blue. They say we all have a personal color. Beyond any doubt, mine is the captivating turquoise

Mi profesión me hace necesitar un lugar que me brinde la paz que me permita observar los colores. O´Tulum, un hotel boutique escondido de tan sólo 12 habitaciones, es el lugar idóneo para perderme y desconectarme. Mi actividad favorita es observar el mar desde mi habitación. La cercanía con el agua me hace sentir como si estuviera navegando en un crucero, mi mejor momento para hacerlo es durante el amanecer, cuando el sol se asoma desde lo más profundo del horizonte.

My profession makes me need a place where I can find the peace that allows me to observe the colors. O’Tulum, a hidden boutique hotel of only 12 rooms, is the ideal location to get lost and disconnect. My favorite activity is watching the sea from my room. Its closeness to the water makes me feel as if I were navigating on a cruise ship, and the best moment is at dawn when the sun comes out from the deepest corner of the horizon.

It is hard to find the words to describe the dawn at O’Tulum. The combination of intense orange with the turquoise blue of the sea generates a warm atmosphere, offering the liveliness and enthusiasm we need to start the day.

Muy cerca de O’Tulum, bucee en el místico “Casa Cenote”. Aquí el azul es más fuerte, con tonalidades azul rey y azul marino, que se tornan en negro conforme avanzamos a los profundo. Por un momento, al cruzar el agujero que conecta con el mar, me sentí tan diminuta, que imaginé estar en el espacio exterior. Sin duda una experiencia impactante, que ha generado en mí un nivel de conciencia distinto en cuanto al lugar que ocupo en la naturaleza.

A few steps from O’Tulum, I dive in the mystical “Casa Cenote”. Here, the blue is more intense, with shades of royal blue and navy blue, which become black as we get into the deep. For a moment, as we crossed the hole that connects with the sea, I felt so small and imagined I was in outer space. It was an undoubtedly powerful experience that gave me a different level of awareness of my place in nature.

No cabe duda que los colores generan distintas emociones, el turquesa nos transmite paz y tranquilidad, y el azul rey, audacia. El momento más emotivo durante mi búsqueda por el azul perfecto fue durante la puesta del sol en la Bahía Soliman, una reserva natural reservada a los huéspedes de O´Tulum. Si mi viaje a Tulum fuera un lienzo, además del turquesa del mar, el azul rey del cenote, o el naranja del sol de la mañana, incluiría unas pinceladas violeta que se irán transformando en rosa mexicano, color que hasta este viaje entendí por qué es llamado así. Los atardeceres en O´Tulum comienzan con un azul celeste, que al caer la tarde se transforman en violeta. Mirar esta maravilla me llena de agradecimiento. Los pintores saben bien lo difícil que es conseguir el violeta perfecto. Sin embargo, en estos inigualables atardeceres es perfecto. Conforme pasan los minutos, el color magenta desaparece, dejando un tono azul muy parecido al de un atardecer cualquiera, cuando en un abrir y cerrar de ojos, hace su aparición un rosa mexicano que toma el control total del cielo. Es como si el cielo nunca hubiera sido azul. El color rosa, aunque efímero, es tan intenso que todos los pensamientos negativos desaparecen de mi mente. Es simplemente como volver a nacer, un nuevo comienzo. Viví tantas emociones y sentimientos en este viaje a México, que quisiera nunca irme de aquí, y me llevan a concluir que el azul perfecto sí existe, y se encuentra en Tulum.

It is undeniable that colors can generate a variety of emotions. For instance, turquoise can transmit peace and calm, and the royal blue, courage. The most emotional moment of my search for the perfect blue happened during the sunset at Soliman Bay, a natural reserved for O’Tulum’s guests. If my trip to Tulum was a canvas, in addition to the turquoise of the sea, the royal blue of the cenote, and the orange of the morning sun, I would include some violet brushstrokes that gradually become Mexican pink, a color whose name I didn’t fully understand until I came to this place. The sunsets in Tulum begin with blue sky, which becomes violet in the late afternoon. Watching this wonder fills me with gratefulness. The painters know well how hard it is to get the perfect violet. However, it is simply perfect in these unparalleled sunsets. As the minutes go by, the magenta fades away, leaving a blue tone just as that of any other sunset, when a Mexican pink suddenly appears and takes control of the entire sky. It is as if the sky had never been blue. The pink is ephemeral yet so intense that all negative thoughts go away from me. It is like being born again, like a whole new beginning. The emotions and feelings I experienced during my trip to Mexico make me wish to never leave and make me realize that the perfect blue exists in Tulum.

In addition to her long and successful acting career, Lidia San José graduated in History from the Complutense University of Madrid and has a specialty in American Anthropology. Her qualifications as a historian have allowed her to make part of cultural projects, such as the documental series Kings of Spain, where she was the hostess. El restaurante Bu’ul fue el marco donde se realizó una cena fusión, que combinó la propuesta de Mishiguene con la cocina del restaurante Bu’ul, que presenta un concepto que honra las recetas tradicionales mexicanas y se basa en los elementos de la milpa, el sistema agrícola creado por los antiguos habitantes de México, y que perdura hasta nuestros días. The attendants enjoyed a six-course dinner comprised of dishes like pickled trout, green pozole made with cacahuazintle, a maize species native of Mexico, hummus, turkey in black recado, and dried fruits and Turkish coffee baklava. The dinner was paired with the wines of Catena Zapata, one of Argentina’s most emblematic wine cellars.

Está comprobado que los primeros amantes del chocolate fueron los habitantes indígenas del sureste de México, quienes disfrutaron de su sabor y nutrición ¡hace más de tres mil años! La bebida de chocolate era tan popular en el México prehispánico que los Aztecas habían ya adoptado el hábito cuando llegaron los conquistadores en 1519. Según dicen, Motecuhzoma, el emperador Azteca, consumía la espuma de chocolate todos los días. El chocolate está elaborado con granos de cacao, la altamente nutritiva semilla del árbol tropical Theobroma Cacao (“Alimento de los Dioses”), planta nativa de México y la zona tropical de las Américas. Los Mayas sembraron grandes plantaciones de cacao en Tabasco y Chiapas y lo comercializaron por toda Mesoamérica. The first proven chocoholics were in fact the indigenous people of southeast Mexico who enjoyed chocolate’s pleasures and health benefits over three thousand years ago! Drinking chocolate was so popular in prehispanic Mexico that the tradition was still going strong when the Spanish arrived in 1519. It is said that Motecuhzoma, the Aztec Emperor, drank prodigious quantities of chocolate foam every day. Chocolate is made from cacao beans, the highly nutritious seeds of the rainforest tree Theobroma Cacao (“Food of the Gods”), native to Mexico and the tropical regions of the Americas. The Mayans created large cacao plantations in Tabasco and Chiapas and formed trade routes to supply their outposts all over Central America. The supply of cacao was so crucial that the Aztecs controlled major plantations in the region of Soconusco, Chiapas, hundreds of miles from their capital. Cacao (kah-KOW, a Mayan word) was offered as a tribute to gods and leaders, as well as having value in day-to-day life as the region’s financial currency. That’s right, chocolate was valued so highly you could use cacao seeds to buy anything you wanted. A lot of chocolate lovers can probably relate to this! Today we are in the midst of a chocolate renaissance, with more and more chocolate

lovers demanding “real chocolate”, which has a high percentage of cacao with no unpleasant additives like vegetable fat and artificial flavors. oday, we know that there is a type of hunger called “emotional craving”. This kind of appetite is a result of the anxiety that makes us eating without a physiological need. That is, we eat not because we are hungry, but because we have unresolved personal issues. The causes of this can be stress, sorrow, anxiety, and even idle time, in other words, boredom. We can fight against the factors that affect our daily life through healthy and balanced nutrition. Thanks to my studies, my experiences, and the experiences I’ve had with clients, I have been able to successfully control anxiety by taking the following actions:

Salto Ecuestre en el Caribe Mexicano La 1era Edición de La Copa Riviera Maya, competencia de salto ecuestre, se llevó a cabo en las instalaciones del Precioso Hípico Riviera Maya ubicado en Paamul, convirtiéndose en el primer circuito estatal de equitación de Quintana Roo. El evento tuvo una organización impecable, ambiente ecuestre familiar, música y área comercial. Las categorías incluyeron desde barras en el piso para los más pequeños, hasta la prueba estelar de 1.20m para los más experimentados. Todos los binomios de los diferentes hípicos del estado obtuvieron un gran desempeño, poniendo en alto el nivel ecuestre de nuestro estado. The 1st edition of the Riviera Maya Cup, a showjumping competition, was held at the facilities of the gorgeous Riviera Maya Riding Club at Paamul, becoming the first equestrian circle in Quintana Roo. The even had an impeccable organization, equestrian family environment, music, and shopping area. The categories included ground-level bars for the smallest to the 1.20 m star event. All the binomials had a great performance, raising high the level of equestrian sports in the state. .

esde muy temprana edad, León Alva se sintió atraído por el arte, y los diecisiete años de edad decide dedicarse a la pintura de forma autodidacta, y comienza a dibujar y crear incansablemente. León vivió desde pequeño en la colonia Roma y creció rodeado de la obra monumental de Carlos Mérida —tenemos entonces al niño ultraurbano, surge su arte ultramoderno— jugando aprendió los diálogos cotidianos de la vida. En su pintura están presentes cientos de historias rostros diferentes, colores llenos de energía, seres de otros planetas. Su trazo forma y conforma

El lenguaje de Marisol se ha desarrollado a tal grado que puede dar las tres dimensiones a cualquiera de sus personajes sin que pierdan su halo mágico. Para construirlos, parte de su realidad, de sus recuerdos infantiles cuando se asomaba al microscopio del padre médico y se sorprendía de esos mundos tan ricos en formas y con una intención produce en el plano actual una tercer realidad: sus personajes mágicos, quienes se transforman, diciéndonos que existen los disfraces en un mundo donde la vida social sufre un cambio constante. La pintora es objeto de un intenso diálogo interno que nutre de contenidos iconográficos sus lienzos, de campos de color muy definidos que muestran su pasión por las líneas onduladas. Sus figuras aunque causan extrañeza por sus formas bizarras, son formas prodigiosas que aluden a un sentimiento optimista en quien las contempla, pues nos remiten a su peculiar sentido femenino de la profusión de formas.

riginality and richness is what you can see in the work of Marisol D’Estrabeau. The artist portrays her worldview and the movement of life through her thoughts and dreams, sustained by a language comprised of a set of plastic aesthetic values.

Her language has developed to such a degree that can bestow three dimensions upon any of her characters without making them lose their magic halo. To create them, she touches base with her reality, with her childhood memories when she used to peer through her father’s microscope and would be surprised to find worlds so rich in shapes. With full intention, she creates a third reality within the current realm: her magical characters are transformed, and tell us that there are disguises in a world where social life suffers constant change. At the end of the day, we all wear disguises, says the artist. She is subjected to an intense internal dialogue that nurtures the iconographic content of her paintings, well-defined fields of color that show a passion for wavy lines. Her shapes may cause surprise due to their bizarre forms, but they are shapes of such prodigality that they transport the beholder towards an optimistic feeling that reminds us of her peculiar feminine sense found in the profusion of the forms.

EQUINOX IN Chichen Itza “ Every year, a snake-shaped god descends from the sky” “Cada año, un dios con forma de serpiente desciende desde el cielo”

s el inicio de la primavera y en el lado norte de la pirámide conocida como El Castillo o Templo de Kukulkán un singular efecto de luz está a punto de ocurrir. El Sol proyecta triángulos de luz y sombra en uno de sus costados. Se trata del Dios en forma de serpiente emplumada, Kukulkán, que desciende del cielo a la Tierra. El dios baja por las 4 escalinatas de 91 peldaños cada una, con pasamanos que terminan en cabeza de reptil. Según la cosmovisión maya, la serpiente era la unión entre lo divino y lo humano. Esta antigua civilización concebía la vida como un ciclo que iba entre el cielo, la Tierra y el inframundo. Por ejemplo, pensaban que el Sol nacía todos los días, recorría la tierra y luego moría. Cada noche, el sol debía luchar contra los dioses del inframundo para poder entonces renacer. Los antiguos mayas le ofrecían al astro un corazón humano cada 20 días para alimentarlo y asegurar su retorno a la Tierra.

t is the beginning of the spring, and a singular light effect takes place in the north face of the pyramid known as the Castle of the Temple of Kukulkan. The sun casts triangles of light and shadow in one of the pyramid’s sides; it is Kukulkan, the feathered serpent god, who descends from the sky to the Earth. The god comes down from the four staircases of 91 steps each, with handrails that end in a reptile head. According to the Mayan cosmology, the serpent was the union between the divine and the humane. They believed that life was a cycle that involved the sky, the Earth, and the underworld. For instance, they thought that the sun was born again every day to travel across the Earth and die. The sun would fight against the gods of the underworld to be able to reborn. The ancient Mayans would offer the sun a human heart every 20 days to feed it and ensure its return to the Earth.

In 2007, the pyramid was named as one of the new seven wonders of the world. Today we know that it worked as a huge solar calendar since the number of steps plus its quadrangular base sum up to the 365 days of the year.

The pre-Hispanic city of Chichen Itza, where the pyramid is located, is 120 east of Mérida. Every year, thousands of people come to this wonderful and enigmatic Mayan city to witness this astounding spectacle, which tells us a lot about the greatness and extraordinary wisdom of the ancient Mayans in fields like astronomy, mathematics, and architecture, an unquestionable legacy of one of the most prodigious civilizations in the history of humanity.

a Riviera Maya podría describirse a sí misma, si así lo quisiera, como una constelación de elementos naturales única y exclusiva en el mundo. Desde las playas de arenas blancas y el distintivo mar transparente hacia el interior del paisaje peninsular, la protagonista es la selva y es en ella donde se abren los ojos de la Tierra, los cenotes. Los hay más o menos explorados, más o menos visitados, más o menos accesibles y de diversas morfologías. En cualquiera de los casos, son espacios sagrados que nos hacen una invitación a la conciencia de preservación, de cuidado y de respeto natural porque son vida.

he Riviera Maya could define itself as a one of a kind, exclusive constellation of natural elements. From the white sand beaches and the distinctive pristine sea to the inland peninsular landscapes where the jungle is the protagonist, it is in the jungle where the cenotes, the eyes of the earth open. Some are more or less explored, more or less visited, more or less accessible. They can come in so many different shapes. In any case, they are sacred spaces, which invite us to preserve, respect and take care of them, because they are alive.

OUTDOORS Sentir cenote es una experiencia que comienza en el acceso que habilita la selva protectora, estableciéndose una comunicación con una frecuencia silenciosa que acaricia el alma. Luego, la conexión pura que se inaugura al contemplar o al flotar en el abrazo fresco de un cenote, se traduce en un recordatorio sobre la potencialidad de la vida y en cada punto de la expresión de sus formas, los cenotes recrean el trazo de lo perfecto. Sentir en los ojos acuáticos de la tierra es una exploración en el presente y en la historia y es, en la profundidad de sus aguas, el sondeo de otro nivel de misterio, el del contacto con el corazón de la Tierra. A través de ríos subterráneos se establece un puente entre una aventura intraterrestre y su manifestación visible en la superficie. Skål es una organización que promueve la amistad y el turismo a nivel global. Es el único grupo internacional que engloba a todas las ramas de la industria del turismo. Sus miembros son directores y ejecutivos de la industria que se reúnen a nivel local, nacional regional e internacional para comentar asuntos de interés común y alcanzar resoluciones. José Luis Ortega, Skål’s current president, invited IN Riviera Maya & Cancun to enjoy a pleasant luncheon in the wonderful Secrets Maroma to celebrate its 20th anniversary in Quintana Roo with a meeting that gathered its members and former leaders. Skål is an organization that promotes friendship and global tourism. It is the only international group that brings together all the branches of the tourism industry.
