Photography is more than just taking pictures. It is a form of modern day art which captures a moment in time. Photography is the result of historical, technical innovation beginning with the creation of the Daguerreotype (first available in 1839) and follows a timeline of camera development right up to the present day. The new age of photography has changed how we see the world with brighter, clearer perspectives and invites many people to enjoy that view for themselves using their own cameras. But the skill to connect with surroundings to create subjective yet objectively beautiful masterpieces rests with the ability of trained photographers such as Liam .

Liam’s passion for photography exceeds the simplicity of picture taking, for him the role of a photographer is being given the opportunity to capture an experience, not just a moment in time. From weddings, landscapes and advertising to the more personal family photographs, Liam can ensure your expectations are exceeded. His approach when it comes to event photography is simple; to fade in to the background to capture all those natural images which create a spectacular day. Similarly, he uses the same method to his own landscaping work, by approaching an object or scene from a different angle a truly alternative and natural image can be found. The unveiling of a story is something Liam finds passion within, which is what creates such a fantastic portfolio.
1.
Where does your passion for photography originate from? My dad was always a keen photographer and owned cameras throughout his life so I think it originated from him. Although I have always had a passion for capturing experiences, and have always owned a camera, I didn’t fully see myself as a photographer until the last three to four years. It was only when I started getting really good feedback from my images that I decided to build the photography business.
2.
Is there a certain style of photography you specialise in? I began with macro photography and then slowly moved on to my passion which is landscapes. I had some requests for portrait photography which started that route within the industry. I also use drones for different angles and use alternative lighting techniques to vary images.
3.
Is event photography something you provide? How many a year? Yes I provide event photography and it is something I very much enjoy doing it. Last year I provided my services to 6 events and I have already booked 5 for this year which is great. My aim would be to build upon the events photography as it is something I really enjoy doing. An event is a memorable and personal time and I enjoy capturing the whole day.
4.
Do you have a favourite piece of work? and if so why? Photography is my passion so it would be hard to choose an exact image. I did a personal piece for my own social media which contained autumnal images – the exact type of photography I love. Along with this I would have to say Jamie and Becky’s wedding was a top favourite. It was a fantastic day and I loved being able to capture the memories throughout – the shots I got, the atmosphere, the clients, all joined to form a wonderful experience.
5.
What other services do you offer? I offer advertising photography, portraits, family photoshoots, weddings plus many more. The best thing would be to get in touch with me, that way we can discuss what you are after and how we can achieve it.
technology over the past few decades. Social media has also been a big influence in how the world is seen, and enables the younger generation to take part in such a big movement which hadn’t been as interesting to the same age group years before. It has come a long way and I can imagine the coming decades will only see an increase, and be a big part of our future.
8.
Where do you see yourself in 10, 15 years’ time? My aim is to move away from my full-time role in construction and follow my passion for photography by expanding my current clientele. Creating lasting images is something I very much love and I plan to continue to build the business.
6.
When finding that perfect setting for a picture, what elements do you look for? Lighting is massive in photography but for personal images I look for a more teal composition which suits my style. The best lighting for me is at the crack of dawn when its dark to be ready for the orange glow of the morning, or very late at night to capture that perfect golden hour shot. When it comes to images for certain areas of photography I always look to what suits, for the client and the setting to ensure the best outcome.
7.
How do you feel the new age of technology has changed the way we view the world? Massively. I am a huge gadget fan and have seen the enormous leap in the progress of For more information Call or Text ‘ADVERT’ to 07464 939 462

With our work life balance becoming harder and harder with each day, week, month, we thought we would take this opportunity to share with you some information on the easiest way to swith off. Theres no need to take an hour out of your day to practise this calming, mind focusing practise, all you need is a quiet place.
Mindfulness is becoming more popular with each day that goes by, society is looking for new ways to help focus the mind and maintain a clam, effective and focused mind. What is mindfulness? Mindfulness is the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around us. While mindfulness is something we all naturally possess, it’s more readily available to us when we practice on a daily basis. Whenever you bring awareness to what you’re directly experiencing via your senses, or to your state of mind via your thoughts and emotions, you’re being mindful. And there’s growing research showing that when you train your brain to be mindful, you’re actually remodeling the physical structure of your brain. Who should practice mindfulness? Anyone can do mindfulness practice. There are no barriers. It doesn’t matter how old you are, what your physical ability is, if you’re religious or not… Mindfulness is not obscure or exotic. It’s familiar to us because it’s what we already do, how we already are. It takes many shapes and goes by many names. We all already have the capacity to be present, and it doesn’t require us to change who we are. But we can cultivate these innate qualities with simple practices that are scientifically demonstrated to benefit us in many ways. How do I practice mindfulness and meditation? Mindfulness is available to us in every moment, whether through meditations and body scans, or mindful moment practices like taking time to pause and breathe when the phone rings instead of rushing to answer it. The Basics of Mindfulness Practice Mindfulness helps us put some space between ourselves and our reactions, breaking down our conditioned responses.
12
Here’s how to tune into mindfulness through the day: 1. Set aside some time. You don’t need a meditation cushion or bench, or any sort of special equipment to access your mindfulness skills—but you do need to set aside some time and space. 2. Observe the present moment as it is. The aim of mindfulness is not quieting the mind, or attempting to achieve a state of eternal calm. The goal is simple: we’re aiming to pay attention to the present moment, without judgement. Easier said than done, we know. 3. Let your judgments roll by. When we notice judgements arise during our practice, we can make a mental note of them, and let them pass. 4. Return to observing the present moment as it is. Our minds often get carried away in thought. That’s why mindfulness is the practice of returning, again and again, to the present moment. 5. Be kind to your wandering mind. Don’t judge yourself for whatever thoughts crop up, just practice recognizing when your mind has wandered off, and gently bring it back. That’s the practice. It’s often been said that it’s very simple, but it’s not necessarily easy. The work is to just keep doing it. Results will accrue. We would love to hear your thoughts on Mindfulness, if you practise it, and, what you have learnt from practising? Please leave your feedback on our Facebook page: /InsideBolsover

THE 12 BEST COMPUTER TRICKS EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW!
1. Get back that tab you accidentally closed. If you want to get back a tab you closed, just press “Control” (or “Command” on Mac), plus “Shift,” plus “T,” and it will magically reappear. 2. Only screenshot the part of the screen you want. If you only need to screenshot part of the screen, there’s a simple way to do it for both Windows and Macs. For Mac: “Command,” plus “Shift,” plus “4” brings up the tool. Then you just drag the area you want. For Windows: Just go to “Start” and then “Snipping Tool.” 3. Easily repeat your last command in Excel. If you press the F4 button in Excel, it repeats the last command. 4. Open a link in a new browser tab with one click. If you click the “middle” button on your mouse, you will open the link in a new browser tab. And if you middle-click an open tab, it will close it. 5. Make a copy of a file by just dragging it. All you have to do to make a copy of a file on a Mac is hold the “Alt” key (“Control” if you are using a PC) and then click and drag the file. This will make a copy that you can drop anywhere you want by un-clicking. 6. Reverse search an image in Chrome. In Google Chrome, if you press “S” while you right click on an image it will do a reverse Google search. That means you’ll be able to see where that photo is and where it potentially originated
7. Pause YouTube with one click, or skip backward and forward 10 seconds. Most people know you can hit the space bar to pause a YouTube video, but sometimes this causes it to scroll down the page if you haven’t already clicked on the video. If you press “K,” this will play (or pause) the video every time. Hitting the “J” key will cause you to go backward 10 seconds, while hitting the “L” key will make you go forward 10 seconds 8. Move your window to any side of the screen, or to the next monitor. If you click the “Windows” key, plus one of the arrows (right, left, up, down), your current window will move to that side of the screen. Similarly, “Windows,” plus “Shift,” plus one of the arrows will move your window into whatever monitor is that way (right, for example). Unfortunately, this only works for Windows machines. 9. Clear you cache in seconds. Quickly clear your cache by pressing “Control,” plus “Shift,” plus “R.” This will also refresh your page. 10. Lock your computer in seconds. On a Windows machine, hit “Windows,” plus “L” to lock your computer. This can be fun for pranks. On a Mac click “Command,” plus “Option,” plus “Eject.” (Or “Power” if your computer doesn’t have an optical drive.) 11. Freak people out by rotating their screen. If you press “Control” plus “Alt” plus one of the arrow keys, it will rotate your screen that way. Note: this doesn’t work for all computers (and only on Windows), but when it does, it can seriously freak someone out. 12. Reset your browser so it’s not zoomed in. Here are three ways to deal with zooming in your web browser: “Control” (or “Command” on Mac) plus “0” resets it to default “Control” (or “Command” on Mac) plus “+” zooms in “Control” (or “Command” on Mac) plus “-” zooms out.

Following Friday's highly successful Civic Society AGM with 70 members and guest attending some members asked if I could circulate Mark Rothery's presentation on the proposed Sherwood Lodge site development. The presentation attached is obviously minus Mark's talk and all the many questions members had on the night but does show how our meetings with the developers are helping to shape and improve the scheme.
If you missed Friday's AGM or didn't manage to renew your annual subscription on the night all existing members will be receiving a copy of the 2018/9 programme and membership renewal form. If you are not already a member and wish to join the Society you will be most welcome. All subscriptions go towards improving our town for everyone. Bernard Haigh | Secretary Bolsover Civic Society

BOLSOVER
PROPOSAL COMPARISON •
Planning permission granted unanimously at Planning Committee in November 2012 for a large Morrisons foodstore, PFS and service yard accessed off Hill Top
•
The planning permission was implemented but has not been built out and the site has been vacant and derelict since the Council offices relocated to Clowne in 2013
Rothstone are committed to bringing this development forward, but the scheme has changed – We think for the better… •
No petrol filling station is proposed
•
Access around Hill Top not part of this proposal
•
Circa 40 more trees retained over the permitted scheme
•
Additional areas of open green space retained including nearly 6,000m2 to the rear
•
Building heights are lower to ensure the development is less impactful to Castle views
•
The main access point off Town End into the site is retained as per the consented scheme - Less traffic generation during times
•
The strong physical and visual link to Market Place and Castle Street

The Council’s most up to date retail capacity assessment (2011) found that the town of Bolsover only retains 51% of local convenience goods expenditure and just 11% of local comparison goods expenditure. A significant amount of retail expenditure is ‘leaking’ from the town of Bolsover to large foodstores in Clowne (Tesco), Staveley (Morrisons) and to the sub-regional shopping centre of Chesterfield. This is to the detriment of Bolsover town centre, which is experiencing an increased vacancy rate and lack of operator demand.

CASTLE STREET MEDICAL With snow affecting all of our lives recently, I would like to let you know how the surgery coped. Nikki was the only member of the admin staff who lives locally, so she walked to work, and opened up the surgery. Dr Jayaswal, persevered and came from Chesterfield, seeing any patients that made it to the surgery, and also dealt with phone calls. Dr Carberry, came from Nottingham, and was able to pick Becky up in his 4x4 ( Becky was on annual leave) and they both worked Thursday and Friday. The Pharmacy couldn't deliver urgent medication, so Becky fetched it, and Dr Carberry delivered it. Dr Carberry also took the Practice nurse on her home visits, he picked her up from home to enable her to re-organise clinics. He also saw patients who were able to get to the surgery. Practice Manager Tracey, was unable to get to the surgery, so she was able to work from the County Hall at Matlock. This information was sent to me by our Practice Nurse, Judy. In her letter, she makes a very good point, that we should recognise those who went the extra mile. Can I, on behalf of the PPG, add our thanks to the surgery staff, who did what they could to ensure that any patient that could get to the surgery, or called on the phone, was able to be seen or helped by our dedicated staff. Sometimes we tend to take things for granted, believing that even when it snows, services will stay the same. It is therefore fantastic,to see how our staff did their utmost, to provide the best service possible in those extreme weather conditions. Grant Stothard, Chair of CSMC - PPG

RACECOURSE
Following their 30th Anniversary ’24 Hour Party People Greatest Hits’ – November & December 2017 UK Tour, Manchester’s legendary Happy Mondays are back this Summer for an action packed day out performing at Doncaster – Racecourse on Saturday 19th May after the TICKETS: VMSTICKETS.CO.UK racing. Why don’t you pop along for a day at the races before dancing into the evening with the fabulous Happy Mondays in concert for an action packed day out! A gig not to be missed….. Happy Mondays formed in 1980 in Salford, Greater Manchester. The original line-up - Shaun Ryder on lead vocals, with brother Paul Ryder on bass, lead guitarist Mark Day, keyboardist Paul Davis, and drummer Gary Whelan. Mark ‘Bez’ Berry later joined the band onstage during a live performance after befriending Shaun Ryder and served as a dancer and percussionist. Rowetta then joined the band to provide backing vocals in the early 1990s. Their first official release was the ’Forty Five EP’ on Factory Records in September 1985. Tony Wilson discovered them and they signed to Factory Records. Their first album ‘Squirrel and G-Man Twenty Four Hour Party People Plastic Face Carnt Smile’ (White Out) released in 1987 and was produced by John Cale. This was followed by two classic albums, ‘Bummed’ in 1988, produced by Martin Hannett.

‘Pills ’n’ Thrills and Bellyaches in 1990 produced by Paul Oakenfold and Steve Osborne which went platinum in the UK selling more than 350,000 copies. This put the band firmly on the map as one of the most influential bands to come out of the UK in the early 1990s. The album was recorded at Capitol Studios in Los Angeles. Singles ’Step On’ and ‘Kinky Afro’ from this album both reached number 5 in the UK singles chart. ‘Yes Please!’ followed in 1992, produced by Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth, recorded at Eddy Grant’s studio in Barbados. By the late 1980s the Happy Mondays were an important part of the Manchester music scene. Numerous world tours meant the band had international success as well as massive success in their home country. The line up of the band during this first and most important ten year phase never changed, and the six original members Shaun Ryder, Paul Ryder, Gary Whelan, Paul Davis, Mark Day and Bez remained together until the first incarnation came to an end in 1994. In 1999 Happy Mondays re-formed with founding members Shaun Ryder, Paul Ryder, Gary Whelan and Bez minus Paul Davis and Mark Day. In the place of Day and Davis were Wags and a number of other session musicians including Ben Leach, percussionist Lea Mullen and rapper ‘Nuts’. Also joining the new line-up was soul singer Rowetta Satchell who sang on Pills, Thrills, and Bellyaches. The band toured

extensively in the UK and internationally, selling out the 20,000 capacity Manchester Arena and released of a new single, a cover version Thin Lizzy ‘The Boys Are Back in Town’. They also provided support for Oasis on their ‘Standing on the Shoulder of Giants’ arena tour, as well as playing numerous festivals worldwide. The band again ceased their activity in 2001 following the departure of bass player and founding member Paul Ryder. 2004 saw another re-formation, comprising original members Bez, Whelan and Shaun Ryder along with another group of musicians - bassist Mikey Shine, keyboard player Dave Parkinson and guitarist Jonn Dunn. Dave Parkinson was later replaced by Dan Broad. In 2007 they released their first album in fourteen years ‘Uncle Dysfunktional’ produced by Sunny Levine and Howie B and released on Big Brother Records. The band played Coachella Music Festival in California and toured throughout the summer of 2007. In 2009 they toured the USA and Canada with The Psychedelic Furs. This version of the band continued until 2010. Members Mikey Shine, Jonn Dunn & Dan Broad continued to back Shaun Ryder for his solo tour until 2011, surrounding the release of his autobiography. In 2012 the band returned with a definitive line up of Shaun Ryder, Paul Ryder, Mark Day, Gary Whelan, Rowetta and Paul Davis and played a thirteen date UK touring a number of European Festivals and a best of album ‘Double Double Good’ was released along with a live recording of the band’s May 2012 gig in Brixton. Followed in 2013 with more international dates and a UK tour celebrating their second album ‘Bummed’. In the summer of 2015, the band played several UK festivals as well as shows in Japan, Hong Kong and China. In September the Watch
Channel broadcast ’Singing in the Rainforest’ a programme which followed the band as they travelled to Panama to compose, record and perform a brand new song ‘Oo La La to Panama’ with an isolated tribe called the Embera. This was followed with a twenty two date UK tour in November to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the release of their album ‘Pills ’n’ Thrills and Bellyaches’. Happy Mondays played festivals throughout 2016. 2017 saw the Happy Mondays back on the road on the ’24 Hour Party People – Greatest Hits’ Tour. Happy Mondays frontman Shaun Ryder said, “We’re performing better than ever and I love getting together with the band, blasting out all our great tunes we’ve made together over the decades. It’s gonna be great.” Bez, the group’s dancer and percussionist, added, “Just as I thought it was all over, the party’s starting again. Look forward to seeing you all.”

On-Call Firefighters will book themselves available for fire calls and, if a call comes in during the hours they have agreed to be on call, they must reach the fire station within 5 minutes of receiving the pager message, and we are after people who can offer daytime cover including weekends. www.derbys-fire.gov.uk
