Award winning pub goes from strength to strength & boasts brand new lounge open to the public on Saturday March 24th! Having been named Elastic FM’s small business of the year, Creswell’s “Ours” continues to grow from strength to strength. Lee and Peter have successfully turned around the previously troubled pub during their two years of lease creating a pleasant ambiance for new customers, subsequently enabling the business to flourish. “Ours” boasts an extensive drinks menu which includes 35 varieties of Gin, 43 diverse vodka’s and 14 rum variations. If that’s not enough to quench your thirst then a premium cocktail menu is also available. The lounge is set to look completely alternate to any surrounding pub with 800 LP vinyls covering the ceiling and artificial grass on the bar and dance floor plus a chandelier to lighten the mood. Lee and Peter have also rescued 160-year-old church pews from County Durham to add originality and restoration. The activities area now offers a wider range including a pool table, dart board and game consoles creating a fun and engaging environment. The new lounge will host 5 nights of entertainment from Quiz nights to Karaoke

events, a weekly DJ is also set to grace customers with nostalgic tunes. Even the external seating area has seen changes with sofas and a reclining arm chair to bring the homely feel outside. Two barbecues have been added which will be available to use on booking free of charge (customers to supply and cook their own food) and with an outdoor bell hooked up to the bar, customers no longer need to leave the comfort of the outdoor area for the drinks run! Being a free house has enabled prices to decrease to as little as £2.50 for John Smiths and £2.70 for Carling. Non-alcoholic drinkers are also given a warm welcome with a wide range of mocktails, Alcohol-free larger, cider, G&T and wine. Designated drivers can drink free of charge! The new and improved pub has developed a fantastic reputation for affordability and atmosphere and customer service is number one priority. HARLECH CASTLE

Harlech Castle (Welsh: Castell Harlech), located in Harlech, Gwynedd, Wales, is a medieval fortification, constructed atop a spur of rock close to the Irish Sea. It was built by Edward I during his invasion of Wales between 1282 and 1289. Over the next few centuries, the castle played an important part in several wars, withstanding the siege of Madog ap Llywelyn between 1294–95, but falling to Owain Glyndr in 1404. It then became Glyndr’s residence and military headquarters for the remainder of the uprising until being recaptured by English forces in 1409. During the 15th century Wars of the Roses, Harlech was held by the Lancastrians for seven years, before Yorkist troops forced its surrender in 1468, a siege memorialised in the song Men of Harlech. Following the outbreak of the English Civil War in 1642, the castle was held by forces loyal to Charles I, holding out until 1647 when it became the last fortification to surrender to the Parliamentary armies. In the 21st century the ruined castle is managed by Cadw, the Welsh Government’s historic environment service, as a tourist attraction.

UNESCO considers Harlech to be one of “the finest examples of late 13th century and early 14th century military architecture in Europe”, and it is classed as a World Heritage site. The fortification is built of local stone and concentric in design, featuring a massive gatehouse that probably once provided high-status accommodation for the castle constable and visiting dignitaries. The sea originally came much closer to Harlech than in modern times, and a water-gate and a long flight of steps leads down from the castle to the former shore, which allowed the castle to be resupplied by sea during sieges. In keeping with Edward’s other castles in North Wales, the architecture of Harlech has close to links to that found in the County of Savoy during the same period, an influence probably derived from the Savoy origins of the main architect, James of Saint George.

250g/8oz digestive biscuits 150g/5oz milk chocolate 150g/5oz dark chocolate 100g/3½oz unsalted butter 150g/5oz golden syrup 100g/3½oz dried apricots, chopped 75g/2½oz raisins 60g/2oz pecans, chopped (optional) CHOCOLATE GANACHE 120g dark chocolate, chopped 50g unsalted butter, chopped

1. Use cling film to line a 20cm (8in) shallow, square-shaped tin. Leave extra cling film hanging over the sides. 2. Bash the biscuits into pieces using a rolling pin. (Put them in a plastic bag first so they don’t go everywhere!) 3. Melt chocolate, butter and golden syrup in a heatproof bowl set over a pan of simmering water. Stir occasionally. 4 Remove the bowl from the heat and stir in the broken biscuits, apricots, raisins and pecans. 5. Spoon the mixture into the tin. Level the surface by pressing it down with a potato masher. 6. Make chocolate ganache: Place chocolate and butter in a small saucepan over low heat. Cook, stirring, for 1 to 2 minutes or until smooth. Remove from heat. Stand for 5 minutes. Spread ganache over base.

ELMTON IS THE SMALLEST VILLAGE IN BRITAIN IN BLOOM 2018 FINALS Elmton, a tiny village in Derbyshire has been selected as one of only seventy six communities in the UK for this prestigious competition. As winner of the ‘Best Small Village in the East Midlands’ for the past three years, Elmton is by far the smallest settlement in a competition that includes much larger villages, towns and cities. With only forty-five properties and an electoral population of only sixty-four Elmtonians consider it a great honour to have been selected. Elmton was originally an Anglo-Saxon village and is recorded in the Domesday book of 1086. At that time it was named Helmetune after the elm trees that were once a major feature. It is a small village steeped in history. Archeological excavations have shown evidence of human occupation within the village boundaries since prehistoric times. Elmton residents are delighted to have been selected for this prestigious competition and look forward to competing with the likes of Clovelly, Aberdeen, Truro and Ballymena. Elmton was first entered into the regional competition, East Midlands in Bloom in 2005. Between 2006 and the present day the points score has gradually risen and the bronze award has been converted into silver and finally silver gilt. The aim of residents in the village is to ultimately receive the cherished gold. Elmton has been the EMIB winner in the ‘small village category’ five times. Elmton is nominated as an RHS Britain-in-Bloom finalist – a nationwide campaign intended to encourage and celebrate the positive impact of gardening in the communities. Heather Small, born 20th January 1965, grew up on a West London council estate. From going to Sunday school and attending the 'Good News Club', religion and faith became an important aspect of Heather's life. Growing up in 70's Britain and not wanting to be stereotyped or treated differently, Heather knew that she wanted to make something of herself. Even though Heather battled with shyness and severe nerves, she joined her first band Hot!House who released two albums in the late 80's. As Part of M People, hits such as 'Moving On Up', 'One Night In Heaven' and 'Search For The Hero' and albums like Elegant Slumming, Bizarre Fruit and Fresco achieving massive worldwide success, Heather became one of the seminal British voices of the 1990s, with the band winning the Best British Dance Act Award at the Brits in 1994 and 1995, as well as the Mercury Music Prize for Elegant Slumming. Heather has since had great successes with two solo albums – the title track of her 'Proud' album has gone on to become the soundtrack to a whole host of very special events including London's successful 2012 Olympic bid, the 60th anniversary of VE Day in Trafalgar Square, the launch of Queen Mary 2, the Tsunami Relief Concert, England's victory at the Rugby World Cup celebrations, and the official ceremony marking the handover of the Olympic Games from Beijing to London. And when Oprah Winfrey was looking for a song to sum up the work she'd been striving to achieve over her twenty-year career, she got in touch with Heather, who somehow managed to squeeze in a trip across the Atlantic to perform on the show right in the middle of her last UK tour with M People ('If Oprah calls, you go!' she laughs, adding that the first lady of chat was 'very sweet to me'). In 2008, Heather embarked on a journey that would see her dance her way into the public’s affection as she became a contestant in Series 6 of the BBC's 'Strictly Come Dancing'. Heather's infectious personality and her trademark sense of humour earned her appearances on a number of TV news and chat shows including Paul O'Grady, Alan Titchmarsh, GMTV, BBC Breakfast, The Wright Stuff, Newsnight, as well as special appearances on The Weakest Link and Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? 2009 was another busy year for Heather as she took to the road again with her band completing two

highly successful UK tours in May and November, performing at over 30 venues nationwide to sellout crowds. She also continued her TV work with regular slots on music, entertainment, and politics shows, including 'Dancing On Wheels', a wheelchair dancing competition-come-documentary airing on BBC Three in early 2010. In the Autumn, Heather teamed up with singing sensations Anastacia and Lulu for the critically acclaimed 'Here Come The Girls' – an unforgettable night of feel-good party music and dance, touring arenas across the UK and Ireland during November and December 2010. Well known for her charitable work, Heather was recently made an ambassador for the children’s charity Barnardo's and is continually involved with fundraising and helping lend her valuable support to projects around the country. So what gives Heather the impetus to keep moving forward, to keep challenging herself, to keep trying new things and not resting on her laurels? 'If you got the feeling I do when I sing' she smiles, 'you'd understand'.
