Hello and a warm welcome from Inside Bolsover District magazine It’s our first anniversary! 12 editions, wow, we can not believe how fast the time has gone! We want to say a MASSIVE thank you to everyone that is involved in the magazine it is a pleasure working with all of you! To our advertisers, because without them the magzine would still be a dream, thank you so much for all your continued support and belief in our publication! Also a specail thanks to Michael Williams for writing the following introduction for our anniversary edition. Jamie Snarski. Editor Inside Bolsover District Magazine A warm welcome to your June edition of the Inside Bolsover District magazine - Celebrating one year of publication! I’d like to introduce myself as Michael Williams, the new Property Manager here at Bolsover Castle, and am very humbled to have been asked to write a few words of welcome and hello for this celebratory issue. I am new to Bolsover and am enjoying discovering the town – and castle - for myself. What a special town we get to live and work in - and with the glorious castle in its heart. The building of Bolsover Castle that we see today was completed by Sir William Cavendish back in the 17th Century and he used the castle as a retreat - a modern day ‘weekend home’ to entertain influential guests with parties and banquets. I hope that its reputation for revelry continues through to the modern day, and that you too enjoy both the castle and the town – we have so many local events happening, thriving local businesses and our brilliant market (all of which are listed in this fantastic FREE local magazine!) that any visitor here can expect the same warm welcome to Bolsover that Cavendish offered back in the 1600s. I wish Inside Bolsover continued growth and success as it continues to bring us essential, interesting and up-to-the-minute news and events from around our great town - and do hope I’ll be invited back to write a few words on your 10th anniversary too! Enjoy this great read, Michael Williams Property Manager - Bolsover Castle English Heritage cares for over 400 historic monuments, buildings and places - from world famous prehistoric sites to grand medieval castles, from Roman forts on the edges of empire to cold war bunkers. Through these we bring the story of England to life for over 10 million visitors each year.

Pedigree Or Not? The majority of cats in the UK are non-pedigree, in fact only around 10% of cats are pedigree animals. So what’s the difference?

Craig, you must have a passion for the outdoors, has this always been the case? It depends if it’s raining or not! Jokes aside, since I was 14 years old I have loved working outdoors, I couldn’t work in role where I would be stuck inside all day, you can’t beat the outside environment, rain or shine I work through it all.
2.
Can you give me an insight in to the beginning of the business? I worked for a local tarmac company before I started the business. Whilst I was there I had a request to provide my services outside of the tarmac firm on a car park, after approaching my manager and receiving the all clear to use their vans I got the job done to an excellent standard. I thoroughly enjoyed working on the project myself and from there created A&D Groundworks. It is now a family run business with my wife and son helping to promote and advertise.
3.
Do you have any plans of expanding A&D Groundworks? I have always been comfortable in how we run A&D but we are getting busier each year, and I don’t like to turn customers away. We began as two men and one van, and now we are 4 men with 2 vans. I am currently booking 6 months in advance so I wouldn’t like to make a huge expansion, just enough so that we can continue providing excellent quality services, efficiently.
4.
You’re a trusted trader registered with Derbyshire County Council which enables customers to identify you as a reliable worker, what is the largest service you have provided? Being a trusted trader is a privilege as it enables customers to identify the quality in what we do. Around 560 jobs in the last 4 years have come from being a trusted trader and I am often called to rectify a job not completed to standard by cowboy businesses. I am starting to get phone calls from big companies to provide my services to them, but I do enjoy the private jobs which enables me to put all my focus in, and these jobs are the grounds on which we started. The biggest work I have carried out was supplying groundworks including the driveway and patio to a large private house which was completed within 2 weeks.
5.
What kind of qualities in a finished product would create a job well done? It isn’t just the finish that makes a good job, it is the overall service we provide from beginning the project through to completion. The importance is in the customer being happy, but as well as this, that the company is happy with what they have done. Any company is trusted to provide a job completed to perfect standard, we take this one step further by making sure we are completely happy at the end, we are trained to perfect detailing therefore that is what we look for upon completion.

Thank you
exclamation: thank you; exclamation: thankyou 1. a polite expression used when acknowledging a gift, service, or compliment, or accepting or refusing an offer. "thank you for your support" noun 1. an instance or means of expressing thanks. "Inside Bolsover designed a full page as a thank you to our advertisers and readers"
A ‘thank you’ to our advertisers and readers by Jamie Snarski, editor of Inside Bolsover District magazine. ‘One year anniversary’ it’s with great appreciation and whole heartedness that we (everyone involved in the magazine) say a massive thank you for all the support we have had over the last year! Without the support of local businesses and the readers we really would still be a day dream just waiting to happen. The faith that our advertisers put into the magazine on a monthly basis gives us the strength to continually develop, grow and evolve the magazine to what it is today! As a side thank you, we want to celebrate everyone that has taken time out to get involved in the community projects over the past year, your efforts are always appreciated and we want you to know our publication is always behind you! Our magazine has now grown to double the size it was when we first launched. As we want to constantly keep on top of our game so that you receive the most from this publication, we are going to be altering the way we display the name and style of the magazine, from July onwards. We feel that with a refresh (but same great magazine), we can push the boundaries of where we distribute and open up new areas to get involved. Not only to benefit our advertisers, but also to reach a bigger audience and help people in these new areas have a platform from which they can get to know about their local towns or village events and shout about anything exciting going on in their community! 11

PLACES TO VISIT IN DERBYSHIRE Blue John cavern at Castleton
The Blue John Cavern at Castleton in the Peak District is a series of caverns considered to be the finest range in Great Britain. The Cavern Tours are of immense educational interest showing clearly how the caverns are formed in limestone strata and how the limestone itself had much earlier been formed by the deposits on the floors of great oceans which have long since receded, as the fossilised remains of marine animals now show. The Cavern is well illuminated by electric lighting. Very comprehensive planning was necessary here to ensure that the whole project was complementary to the caverns as a whole. Without appearing to intrude or commercialise the caverns in any way. It has been suggested that the Blue John Cavern is the finest that can been seen by the general public in Western Europe. There is also a craft shop with a wide variety of Blue John Jewellery set in silver and gold, alongside Blue John Ornaments such as bowls, eggs, and goblets. Creswell Crags is a limestone gorge honeycombed with caves and fissures. The caves are world famous as the most northerly home of our ancestors who lived during the Ice Age. Editors choice Summer Solstice JUNE SOLSTICE: LONGEST & SHORTEST DAY OF THE YEAR The June solstice is the Summer Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere and the Winter Solstice the Southern Hemisphere. The date varies between June 20 and June 22, depending on the year, and the local time zone. June Solstice in Sheffield, England, United Kingdom is on Wednesday, 21 June 2017, 05:24 BST (Change city) June Solstice in Universal Coordinated Time is on Wednesday, 21 June 2017, 04:24 UTC A solstice happens when the sun’s zenith is at its furthest point from the equator. On the June solstice, it reaches its northernmost point and the Earth’s North Pole tilts directly towards the sun, at about 23.4 degrees. It’s also known as the northern solstice because it occurs when the sun is directly over the Tropic of Cancer in the Northern Hemisphere.
Interesting Facts About the June Solstice Meaning of Solstice ‘Solstice’ (Latin: ‘solstitium’) means ‘sun-stopping’. The point on the horizon where the sun appears to rise and set, stops and reverses direction after this day. On the solstice, the sun does not rise precisely in the east, but rises to the north of east and sets to the north of west, meaning it’s visible in the sky for a longer period of time. Although the June solstice marks the first day of astronomical summer, it’s more common to use meteorological definitions of seasons, making the solstice midsummer or midwinter Solstices in Culture Over the centuries, the June solstice has inspired countless festivals, midsummer celebrations and religious holidays. One of the world’s oldest evidence of the Summer Solstice’s importance in culture is Stonehenge in England, a megalithic structure which clearly marks the moment of the June Solstice. In the Southern Hemisphere, where the June solstice is known as the shortest day of the year, it marks the first day of astronomical winter, but the middle of winter in meteorological terms. Midnight Sun or Polar Night? On the June solstice, the midnight sun is visible (weather permitting) throughout the night, in all areas from just south of the Arctic Circle to the North Pole. On the other side of the planet, south of the Antarctic Circle there’s Polar Night, meaning no Sunlight at all, on the June Solstice.
Solstice Dates Vary Even though most people consider June 21 as the date of the June Solstice, it can happen anytime between June 20 and June 22, depending on which time zone you’re in. June 22 Solstices are rare - the last June 22 Solstice in UTC time took place in 1975 and there won’t be another one until 2203. The varying dates of the solstice are mainly due to the calendar system – most western countries use the Gregorian calendar which has 365 days in a normal year and 366 days in a Leap Year. A tropical year is the time it takes the Earth to orbit once around the Sun. It is around 365.242199 days long, but varies slightly from year to year because of the influence of other planets. The exact orbital and daily rotational motion of the Earth, such as the “wobble” in the Earth’s axis (precession of the equinoxes), also contributes to the changing solstice dates. Equinoxes and Solstices After the June solstice, the sun follows a lower and lower path through the sky each day in the Northern Hemisphere until it reaches the point where the length of daylight is about 12 hours and eight to nine minutes in areas that are about 30 degrees north or south of the equator. Areas 60 degrees north or south of the equator have daylight for about 12 hours and 16 minutes. This is the September Equinox, the Autumnal Equinox in the Northern Hemisphere. Earth does not move at a constant speed in its elliptical orbit. Therefore the seasons are not of equal length: the times taken for the sun to move from the March Equinox to the June Solstice, to the September equinox, to the December solstice, and back to the March equinox are roughly 92.8, 93.6, 89.8 and 89.0 days respectively. The consolation in the Northern Hemisphere is that spring and summer last longer than autumn and winter.

In modern interiors, combining naturally inspired colours is a failsafe way to create a fabulous colour scheme that feels calming rather than overpowering.
Deep colours create a showstopping display Brassica is inspired by the purple often seen in the family of vegetables of the same name. Adaptable and subtle, it comes alive teamed with accents of similar tones such as Great White. For a modern look use it with the bluer Cabbage White. Combine luxurious Dark Aubergine with Wild Blackberry for understated glamour, or Lavender Grey for subtle contrast. Be bold and apply these deep colours to both the woodwork and walls to create a dramatic and unified look.
Bring a scheme together with harmonious golden highlights The earthy tones of Mustard team beautifully with restrained greys and neutral tones. Decorate with two colours to achieve a sense of balance and complete the look by introducing some accessories in toning colours. Full of energy, Sweet Potato Sunrise is ideal for revitalising a space and bringing warmth to your home. Team it with stone, cork and wood to emphasise its natural quality, or combine with metallic pieces to add a touch of glamour.
Green Fingers Invite the outdoors in with soothing grassy hues. Soft greens, such as Cricket, are perfect for adding an organic element to your home. Our new lifestyle emulsion range has eco credentials and a wipeable, durable finish ideal for boot rooms, conservatories and high-traffic areas of the home. Positive and bright, Broadbean looks great with earthy browns and oak furniture. When I created this colour I intended it to be the same as the outside of a bean but it turned out like the more vibrant inside. It makes a room feel close to nature.
Warming colours will bring life to dark corners Spirited Squashed Tomato is a vibrant primary red. Paint it on a panel or chimney breast, and use green Creeping Ivy on the rest of the walls to create a romantic retreat. A classic neutral, Mushroom has a hint of red oxide for warmth. It really comes alive when teamed with Gourdy, a warm mustard hue, or alternatively use in a bedroom alongside deep brown felt to make it feel super-luxurious. Gardening tips for June WHAT TO DO IN THE GARDEN IN JUNE There’s always something to be doing in the garden, whether it’s pruning, tidying or sowing, so we’ve put together our top gardening tasks for June.
Flowers • Plant out annual summer bedding plants now the risk of frost has passed. • Plant up containers, hanging baskets and planters now the risk of frost has passed. If you have them growing on in a greenhouse move them outside to their final position. • Lift and divide overcrowded clumps of bulbs. • Keep newly planted trees and shrubs well watered whilst they establish. • It’s not too late to sow seeds of annual plants - for a full list of annuals that you can still sow now see our what to sow and grow page. • If any of your hanging basket plants have become leggy or misshapen, simply trim the excess off - this will encourage bushy growth. • Dead-head your roses if they are repeat-flowering types. Otherwise leave the seed heads on for decoration. • Cut back bulb foliage as soon as it has died down naturally. • As new shoots grow, tie in and train climbing plants such as honeysuckle and clematis to their supports. Use Soft-Tie Wrap for a secure tie.
Vegetables • Pinch out any side shoots from your tomato plants and feed once the first truss is setting fruit. You can pot up the side-shoots to create new tomato plants. • Continue to earth up potato plants as they grow. If you’re growing potatoes in bags simply add more compost to half way up the plant stem. • Harvest salad crops and resow every 2 weeks for a constant supply of tasty leaves. • Harvest early potatoes - these are normally ready from 10 weeks after planting. • Look out for onion and garlic leaves yellowing and dying back - this means they are ready to harvest! • Plant out tender vegetables such as courgettes, squash, tomatoes and sweet corn now the risk of frost has passed. • When planting out cabbages, use cabbage collars to prevent cabbage root fly attack. • There is still time to plant runner beans - sow them directly in the ground now. • Protect crops from carrot fly by covering with horticultural fleece or enviromesh.
22
Fruit • Start to prune your plum or cherry trees now. • Although fruit trees will naturally shed some fruit (called the ‘June drop’), aim to thin out congested branches further for bigger and better fruits. • Protect any developing fruits from birds and squirrels by placing netting around your plants. • If you have plants fruiting in containers, make sure you give them a high potash liquid feed to keep plants healthy and productive.
Gardening Tip Use water butts as much as you can to water your plants
To advertise Call 07464 939 462 or email insidebolsover@outlook.com
• Top-dress patio dwarf fruit trees with fresh compost and a slow-release fertiliser. • Peg down runners on your strawberry plants to create more plants for next year. If you don’t need more plants simply remove the strawberry runners completely.
In the greenhouse • Continue to harden off half-hardy bedding plants to acclimatise them to outdoor conditions. • Open vents and doors on warm days. • Check plants daily and water them if the soil is dry. • Use blinds or apply shade paint to prevent the greenhouse from over-heating in sunny weather. • Damp down your greenhouse on hot days to increase humidity and deter red spider mites. Looking after your lawn • Water your lawn during hot weather, particularly newly seeded or turfed lawns. Do not allow new lawns to dry out. • Warm weather encourages rapid weed growth - apply specific lawn weed killer to tackle this problem. • Feed your lawn with a special lawn fertiliser to encourage healthy green growth. • Recut any lawn edges if needed. Try installing lawn edging to make future maintenance easier.

Pets Corner Kittens Pedigree Or Not? The majority of cats in the UK are non-pedigree, in fact only around 10% of cats are pedigree animals. So what’s the difference? Pedigree: A pedigree (or pure-bred) kitten is the offspring of two cats of the same breed. The advantages of pedigree animals is that you have a better idea of size, typical temperament, fur type and other characteristics of the breed. Do some research into the different breeds, cat breed books are a great place to start. Cross Breed: A cross-bred kitten is the offspring of two pedigree cats of different breeds, so the kitten could inherit characteristics from both/either of the parents. Non-Pedigree (Moggie): A kitten is known as non-pedigree (commonly referred to as a ‘moggie’) if one or both the parents are cross-bred or moggies. Consider adult size, temperament, grooming requirements, hereditary illnesses and ability to train. Try not to choose on looks alone! Pedigree cats often come with a large price tag, where as non-pedigrees tend to be less expensive to purchase. Male or Female? Cats can be difficult to sex when they are very young, but this becomes easier as the kitten ages. An experienced breeder should have no difficulty in determining the sex, but check with a vet if you’re unsure. Whichever sex you choose, kittens are all individuals, but here are some points which may help:
Advantages: Stimulation and social interaction – two kittens together will frolic and enjoy play fighting and adventuring together. This means that the kittens don’t become ‘bored’ or frustrated when you are unable to pay them your full attention. If you have one timid and one confident kitten, the nervous kitten may be encouraged to tackle more situations by the more confident character. Introducing two cats together is much easier than introducing a kitten into a house where there is an older cat. The older cat will have established territory and may not appreciate the new member of the household – particularly if they are the same sex Disadvantages: The cost of vaccinations, neutering, medical expenses, insurance, feeding, litter trays, toys and so on are all doubled! Not all kittens will get along.
3. If you buy more than one kitten, then one of each sex is probably the best option, although neutering helps to reduce competition and differences.
Indoor or Outdoor? The decision usually depends on your housing – ie. tower block, or no garden, or for safety if you live near a main road. Considerations should also include risk of boredom for a single kitten if no one is home for long periods, and risk of injury or loss if allowed to roam. You could compromise by allowing them out during the day and keeping them in at night, or construct a mesh cat run outside your house where your kittens can play without risk.
4. If a cat remains unneutered then it is sometimes said that males are more difficult to control than females, and may have more aggressive tendencies. A queen may become pregnant at least once a year, so must be kept away from males during her season, to prevent unwanted pregnancies. Males may stray many miles or become agitated if they are in the vicinity of a queen in season
Feeding Time? Your kitten should be fed a specific ‘Kitten’ or ‘Growth’ lifestage food for the first year of its life – longer if a larger breed. These types of food will have been specially formulated by leading nutritionists to benefit every aspect of your growing kitten. Diets without such modifications can lead to poor bone development, bad teeth and stunted growth.
Just One? Consider whether you could commit yourself to more than one kitten, not only financially, but also with time and care. Many people feel that having 2 kittens is the best option as they will keep each other company as they grow older, but single cats will thrive just as well with devoted owners.
Depending on the recommended daily feeding quantity for your kitten, divide the amount into several small meals throughout the day:
1. If neutered before 6 months of age there is very little difference between the behaviour of male and female cats. 2. If you are introducing a kitten to a household with a resident cat, it’s best to choose a cat of the opposite sex to the older cat.
Up to 12 weeks – 4 small equal meals. Up to 6 months – 3 meals – lunch smaller. Over 6 months – 2 meals – larger in the morning. Always supply plenty of fresh drinking water.

Purchase animal-safe treats only. Try treating with premium treats that do not contain excess sugar rather than human food or sweets. Playtime & Toys These should be used for entertainment and rewards. A kitten will respond well to you if you have its favourite toy in your hand. Playtime is an ideal opportunity to teach your kitten the basic commands you wish to use – but always make it short and enjoyable or your kitten will lose interest very quickly.

Playtime is great for bonding, so choose toys that allow you can interact with your kitten; be careful not to startle her as you could create a negative experience. Fishing rod toys are ideal! Grooming & Bathtime Make all experiences a pleasure for your kitten! Use these sessions for handling and getting it used to you touching it all over. Try to avoid keeping your kitten still for too long. How it is handled the first few times can affect its behaviour in future situations – ie. during health checks, when at the vets or cattery/grooming parlour etc. Teeth & Teething Your kitten will have a complete set of sharp teeth (and claws) when you get it home – as you will soon find out. As it loses its baby teeth from 12 weeks to 6 months old, it may need toys and teething aids to satisfy its chewing urges. Try to obtain several durable toys for constant chewing – and protect your ankles! Health Checks It is very important to keep a close eye on your kitten, as small changes can lead to bigger problems. Every time you groom or bath your kitten, check her for cuts, sores and lumps. If it is regularly checked, you will be able to spot a potential problem early on. In particular look out for any lumps and bumps. Watch for scratching and check the coat for fleas or other problems, which could reflect a medical or dietary problem. Skin disorders can often be remedied by a change of diet. Check that your pets urinate regularly and that their stools are firm, as any change could indicate a developing health problem. This can be difficult if your kitten is trained to soil outside, so changes in behaviour and feeding can be used as indicators of trouble, particularly if your kitten is lethargic or hunched over.

MOTORING REVIEW
June USED CAR REVIEW Vauxhall Insignia review
A full used buyer’s guide on the Vauxhall Insignia covering the Insignia Mk1 (2009-2017) Verdict In isolation the Insignia is a competent car, not especially lacking in any one area. Problems appear when you compare it with rivals – many offer more reliability, space or safety. However, while most beat the Vauxhall in a few areas, those that beat it in several invariably cost more – which is why the Insignia is an attractive used buy. Ever since the post-war years, Vauxhall has stood for value-for-money family motoring, and its purchase by PSA is unlikely to change that. When it comes to affordable family transport, few cars provide better value than the Insignia. Sitting in a market segment that’s shrinking, the large family car sector is also dominated by more prestigious German brands, which is why the Insignia has an especially tough time. As a used buyer that plays straight into your hands though, as hefty depreciation means you get more car for your money when buying an Insignia than pretty much any other car on the market. The question is, should you buy one – and which one, if you do? History The Insignia saloon and hatchback went on sale in January 2009 with 1.8, 2.0T or 2.8T V6 petrol engines, or a 2.0 CDTi diesel in 128bhp or 158bhp forms. The Sports Tourer estate arrived two months later with the same engine and trim options. In April 2009 the 139g/ km 2.0 CDTi EcoFlex appeared, along with the 321bhp 2.8 V6 VXR, with standard four-wheel drive. A 1.4T engine arrived in May 2011, then a facelift in October 2013 brought new multimedia, improved refinement, fewer trims, revised suspension and steering – plus 99g/km 2.0 CDTi and 168bhp SIDI turbo petrol engine options. The high-spec Country Tourer 4x4 pseudo-SUV appeared at the same time, with a raised ride height; a 1.6 CDTi joined the range in July 2015.

Which one should I buy? Petrol-engined Insignias are relatively unusual; as long as you buy one that’s turbocharged it’ll be zesty, but the diesels make the most sense as they’re more plentiful, frugal and muscular. The 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engines were offered with four-wheel drive (in saloon, hatch and estate forms with manual or automatic transmissions) – perfect if you tow. The entry-level ES gets ESP, air-con, cruise control and electrically adjustable/heated door mirrors. Exclusiv adds climate control while the SE and SRi also feature alloys, electric rear windows and privacy glass. The SRi features sports suspension and 17-inch wheels; the SRi VX-Line comes on 19-inch alloys. The range-topping Elite has front and rear parking sensors, bi-xenon headlights and leather trim. Alternatives to the Vuaxhall Insignia Mk1 The Insignia’s key rival is the Ford Mondeo, which offers everything the Vauxhall does in terms of availability, a wide model range, value and practicality – but it adds a more engaging driving experience to the mix. The Skoda Octavia always does well in our Driver Power survey thanks to its ease of ownership and usability; prices are higher than for the Vauxhall, though. If value is key, we’d suggest you take a look at the Peugeot 508. You should also consider the Honda Accord, which offers smart looks and decent value, but a narrow model range. The VW Passat is worth a look, but you’ll need deeper pockets to buy one.
miles, at £269. The brake fluid has to be renewed every two years or 40,000 miles at a cost of £45. An air-con service (due every two to three years) costs £99. Recalls - The first recall came in November 2010 due to a problem with the driver’s airbag. In January 2011 some cars were recalled as the electric window antitrap could fail. Estates built up to March 2015 were recalled in May 2015 as the tailgate’s gas struts could fail. In July 2016 it was noted that the steering could fail on some cars built in April 2016. Driver Power owner satisfaction - A score of 136th in the 2016 Driver Power satisfaction survey is no surprise for what’s now an ageing car. However, just one top 100 score is disappointing (67th for practicality). Next came 112th for seat comfort, while the lowest rating was 142nd for ease of driving. Reliability was rated at 141st.
What to look for: Electric faults - Electrical glitches can crop up, including the dashboard displays and/or illumination switching off. But such issues are unpredictable. Bad binding - On some cars the rear brake pads can bind. The pads have been redesigned, but any car with older parts may be suffering from binding brakes. Spare wheel - A full-size 20-inch alloy spare wheel will fit in the boot-mounted well. Vauxhall sells spacers to make it all fit; they cost around £24 for a pair. Alloys - Big 19 or 20-inch alloy wheels aren’t unusual, but these can spoil the ride and are prone to buckling, leading to annoying vibrations. Interior - The cabin is comfortable and roomy, and the seats have a wide range of adjustment; the optional Ergonomic Sports Seats are worth seeking out. Rear seat space is good, while boot space is 530 litres seats up, or 1,470 with them folded down (for the hatch; estate figures are 530 and 1,530 litres). Running costs - All Insignias need to be serviced every 12 months or 20,000 miles. Services alternate between minor and major, priced at £149 and £249, regardless of which engine is fitted (although this excludes VXR models, which have to be quoted for separately). Once over three-years old, prices drop to £149 and £199 for minor and major services. The 1.6 and 1.8-litre petrol engines have a cambelt; so does the 2.0 CDTi. The belt should be renewed every six years or 100,000

5 Shortcuts to Increase Your Typing Speed We all know that typing speed matters. Whether you’re applying for a job as a paralegal or an executive assistant, being able to type quickly and accurately might be the only skill that stands between you and another equally qualified applicant. Can you type 65+ words per minute? Here’s 5 shortcuts that will help you increase your typing speed in no time. No overnight results but, if you follow these tips you’ll definitely get a leg up on the competition Technique Matters Touch typing is 80% technique, 10% accuracy and 10% speed. People who are masters at touch typing will tell you that without proper hand position and typing technique, you’ll only be able to type so fast. Think about it, there is no way that the person using the hunt and peck method will ever be as fast as someone who uses proper technique on a QWERTY keyboard. Using the proper technique will make learning to type much easier and open a world of opportunities when it comes to increasing typing speed. Good Posture Can Work Wonders Posture is one of the most overlooked factors when it comes to learning to type quickly. Poor posture not only takes a toll on your muscles, but can affect your energy levels and accuracy as well. Good posture while typing will keep up your energy levels and also allow your fingers to rest in the correct position. Keeping correct posture allows you to type faster, more accurately and will help prevent injury. The correct posture to have while typing is relaxed with feet squarely on the floor and wrists level with the keyboard. Errors are Opportunities for Improvement When you first start learning to touch type, you’re going to make some errors. In fact you might make
a lot of them. Your success really depends on how you view making those mistakes – do you see them as a failure or as an opportunity to improve? People who see their mistakes as an opportunity to improve generally learn faster than people who don’t. Your mindset plays a big part in how quickly you learn and how much information you are able to take in. Repetition Never Gets Boring Touch typing is all about muscle memory, which means that your muscles will need some time to adjust to the new techniques that you are learning. The best and quickest way to do this is through repetition. By doing the same exercise over and over you will be able to ingrain those movements into your muscle memory. If you are using an online typing tutor, set a high standard for yourself. Make a decision to master a technique 100% before moving on to the next lesson. This may seem more time consuming upfront but, if you do this the subsequent lessons will be easier since they are built upon the techniques taught in the previous lessons. Don’t Look at the Keyboard Another great trick to help you increase your typing speed in a short period of time is to avoid looking at the keyboard. Initially, this may result in more mistakes, but you will learn the positions of the keys at a much higher rate without using the keyboard as a crutch. Because it can be tempting to simply look down at the keyboard, try covering the keyboard and your hands with a piece of paper while you type. Or, if you really want to challenge your self, Das Keyboard Ultimate is a keyboard with blank keys that will literally force you to learn the keys via motor-skills.

Gru faces off against Balthazar Bratt, a former child star who has grown up to become obsessed with the character that he played in the ‘80s, and gets into some sibling rivalry when he meets his long-lost charming, cheerful, and more successful twin brother Dru who wants to team up with him for one last criminal heist to steal the diamond that Bratt has stolen. PG CHURCHILL Release date June 16 June 1944. Allied Forces stand on the brink: a massive army is secretly assembled on the south coast of Britain, poised to re-take Nazi-occupied Europe. One man stands in their way: Winston Churchill. Behind the iconic figure and rousing speeches: a man who has faced political ridicule, military failure and a speech impediment. An impulsive, sometimes bullying personality - fearful, obsessive and hurting. Fearful of repeating, on his disastrous command, the mass slaughter of 1915, when hundreds of thousands of young men were cut down on the beaches of Gallipoli. Obsessed with fulfilling historical greatness: his destiny. Exhausted by years of war and plagued by depression, Churchill is a shadow of the hero who has resisted Hitler’s Blitzkrieg. Should the D-Day landings fail, he is terrified he’ll be remembered as an architect of carnage. Political opponents sharpen their knives. General Eisenhower and Field Marshal Montgomery are increasingly frustrated by Churchill’s attempts to stop the invasion. King George VI must intervene. Only the support of Churchill’s brilliant, yet exasperated wife Clementine can halt the Prime Minister’s physical and mental collapse. Director: Jonathan Teplitzky Starring: Brian Cox, Miranda Richardson, John Slattery, James Purefoy Run time: 98 minutes - Certificate: PG

PG TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT Release date June 23 Mark Wahlberg is back for his second foray into the Transformers Universe playing Cade Yeager (cool name), a struggling inventor and single father who first popped up in Transformers: Age Of Extinction. He’ll be joined by two more returning humans, Josh Duhamel as Lt. Colonel William Lennox, and Tyrese Gibson as Robert Epps, both soldiers who appeared in Transformers, Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen and Transformers: Dark Of The Moon on the side of the autobots – but were not in Age Of Extinction. Stanley Tucci is back as the head of Kinetic Solutions Incorporated who in Age Of Extinction created his own man-made Transformers – which didn’t end well, though by the end he’d seen the error of his ways and sided with Optimus and the Autobots. Michael Bay has continued his tradition of casting a young and not very famous but conspicuously pretty female – this time it’s Isabela Moner, who’ll be playing Izabella, “a street-smart tomboy” orphan whose only buddy in life is mini-Transformer and fellow newcomer Sqweeks, who changes into a Vespa. Director: Michael Bay Starring: Mark Wahlberg, Gemma Chan, Anthony Hopkins Run time: TBC - Certificate: TBC

Holiday Review June EUROPE UK
What’s the UK like in June? Well it can be a mixed bag of sunshine and showers, but seeing at this is one of those holiday destinations that can be visited all year round - the tourists don’t come here in their droves for the sunshine unsurprisingly - you may just be lucky enough to get blue skies and mild warm weather. And if you are lucky then this can be one of the most beautiful countries in the world, naturally so green the summer here mixes the countryside floral aromas with the buzz of cities and rivers. And don’t forget being an island, if you can drag yourself away from London and it’s other capital cities of Cardiff, Edinburgh and Belfast then you’ll find the coastline and beaches stunning.
CARIBBEAN
Spain - Costa Blanca
Tobago
Spain in June, you know it’s going to be hot! And with an average high of 32°c /90°f and upwards on the Costa Blanca it’s a safe bet if you are looking for some June sunshine and beaches in Europe. Probably the best known holiday destination is Benidorm, with a long history of holiday makers, busy hotels, plenty of restaurants and shopping, and long wide sandy golden beaches. But outside of popular Benidorm there are miles and miles of gorgeous beaches on this coastline, from Calpe, Javea, Denia, Torrevieja and the gateway town of Alicante. Alicante boasts lovely beaches as well as being the second largest city in the province with all the history and array of architecture that comes with an old port city. It begins to get fairly busy in Spain in June, but you can make your holiday what you want it to be; so you can laze around on beaches, partake in the local spanish cuisine, enjoy the watersports or head out of the busy tourist districts and dive into the culture of this incredibly popular coast of Spain.
Turkey
June is one of the peak months to visit Turkey as the temperatures soar towards 30°c /86°f and now the dry season. The holiday makers come here in their droves in search of Turkeys glorious yellow beaches and warm clear sea and guaranteed sunny skies. The coastline is dotted with famous resorts such as Bodrum and Marmaris but don’t be afraid to head outside of these resorts or a little further from the beach for some of the best bargains and serene and quiet accommodation away from the crowds. Ever popular Turkey will always be one of Europes top beach destinations with June among one of the favourite times to visit Turkey. Don’t forget this year you’ll need a visa to enter Turkey, it’s very simple so don’t let that put you.

Hooray! Tobago isn’t in the hurricane belt! So visiting tobago in June is a great idea. When most of the other Caribbean islands head straight into the hurricane season from June through to October laid back Tobago will be continuing to benefit from a steady warm temperature of around 30°c /86°f. There is a little more rain in June however most of it falls at night and you will get the odd short burst of a tropical downpour in the afternoon from time to time. You can take a day tour over to its nearby neighbour of Trinidad, enjoy diving or snorkelling on the spectacular reefs, or simply soak up the sun on this friendly little Caribbean island.
Barbados
Barbados in a fantastic Caribbean destination in June, because although June to November is hurricane season in the Caribbean - the location of Barbados means it tends to be out of reach of the hurricanes with the likelihood of one hitting every 25 years, so it’s pretty much outside the hurricane belt hooray! Another Caribbean holiday island that’s good to visit in June. Its 30°c /86°f and fairly humid at this time of year so a cool off with a dip in the ocean.
FAR EAST Vietnam
The best places to head for in Vietnam in June would be in Central Vietnam. North, Central and South Vietnam all have varying and different weather patterns which come into their own in different months. But right now head out to Central Vietnam to the beaches of Nha Trang and you’ll find it very hot around 32°c /90°f and with very little rain. You have to expect a little rain from time to time in Vietnam, this is how it has such luscious dense green palms and jungle!

Thailand
Travelling to Thailand in June is hot throughout, however it’s on the edge of the wet season so you’ll get a downpour now and then but it will be short, the rest of the time will be absolute bliss. To be on the safe side the best area of Thailand to visit in June is the east coast, this will be pretty much dry throughout the month and you can expect temperatures of 32°c /90°f. Koh Samui is probably the best known and largest island in the Gulf of Thailand, and although super popular it just has to be experienced, it has everything from waterfalls and green peaks, beautiful beaches, amazing resorts at affordable prices, modern shopping malls to authentic markets, and the best of all? The sea is a shade of turqouise like nowhere else in the world, enjoy the snorkelling and take a boat trip to see nature at it’s most peaceful and idyllic.

Bali - Indonesia
It’s hot in Bali in June and the height of the dry season, an ideal time to visit this beautiful Indonesian island. It’s around the 29°c / 85°f mark, and perfect to take advantage of some of the most stunning marine life and go for a dive or snorkle off the coral reef. A haven of relaxation many come here for the yoga retreats, or to hike the incredible scenery - you can even hike a live volcano! But for those just thinking about relaxation, then it has the ideal hotels designed to promote utter serenity and the beaches are dreamy.

EXCITING CREATIVE PROJECTS TAKING PLACE ON THE MODEL Junction Arts is pleased to announce two new projects taking place in the Model Village. Banner & Banter and Art on the Model are due to start soon and you will be seeing free events, workshops and activities being advertised for you to take part and add your voice. You may notice the two artists, Karina Thompson and Emma Reynard, on walkabouts documenting the area and they are looking forward to engaging in various conversations with you about where you live, listen to your story and record the regeneration activities taking place.
Karina is an innovative digital textile artist and is delivering the Banner & Banter project where she will be working with you to produce a new banner for the Model Village, using the heritage of the Trade Union banners. The free banner making workshops at 133 New Bolsover, will be looking at developing new skills and enabling discussions to take place to strengthen the identity of the Model for the future. The banner will eventually be on public display. Emma is an experienced artist with a socially-engaged practice and has been commissioned to deliver our Art on the Model project, working closely with residents, businesses and local primary school pupils. Emma has set up a project blog documenting her work in progress, please go https://artonthemodel.wordpress.com/to to view project updates. Emma will be working to produce new artworks in collaboration with you that will eventually be sited onto a section of hoardings around the construction site compound, on 40 security shutters that are installed currently on empty properties whilst they await renovation and a small curved wall. Emma say’s “I am really excited about starting work on the Art on The Model project. I have visited New Bolsover a few times now and find it to be a really inspiring place. Not only is it layered with history, but also has a sense of great aspiration as the regeneration work is being carried out in the area. I’m looking forward to working with the residents of New Bolsover, and discovering more about the rich local heritage, and the significance of this important Model Village. The free art sessions will welcome all ages and abilities to create inspiring artwork, and maybe discover a new skill or hobby.” Junction Arts is also running the Video Diary project, now in its second year. More news about the free editing workshops will be advertised shortly.

CASTLE STREET MEDICAL CENTRE
PPG meeting 24-4-17 We held our latest on the above date with 12 members present. I introduced our new Practice Manager Tracey Siggsworth to the group. Tracey told us a little about herself and her family. In my report, I outlined the meetings that I had attended. At the HCCG Network meeting on 11th April, there was a presentation on Care Homes, which outlined the need to IMPROVE QUALITY, REDUCE COSTS and to show how INTEGRATED TEAMS WORK in supporting existing Homes. The costs of care, varies, between £1000 and £4000 per bed. The NHS is seeing an increase in Out of Hours calls from homes, there are issues with RECRUITMENT, and some homes do not have IT or internet connections. A team is being set up to look into the care needed for patients in Care Homes. The team will meet at the Bolsover hospital and are hoping to report back in three months. We also had a report on HCCG Finance highlighting PROCEEDURES of LIMITED VALUE. It would appear, that because of the Financial pressures being imposed on the NHS, referrals for some minor procedures, will be VETTED by a panel. The panel will then decide who will get the treatment that a GP had referred them for. Procedures like OBESITY, KNEE surgery and other procedures of ‘LIMITED VALUE’ may not meet the CRITERIA, therefore not get the treatment they thought they should. This in essence, takes the decision away from GPs. There was a discussion about our proposals with regard to Kitchen Croft and the disused offices. Since the meeting, I have contacted Morrisons, as well as several Local District Councilors and our MP. A full statement on the proposals will be submitted to the local press and magazines. Our next meeting will be on 15th May at 6,30pm. Grant Stothard, Chair of CSMC, PPG

CASTLE STREET MEDICAL CENTRE We are asking for Morrison’s not to DEMOLISH the offices, but to meet Bolsover DC, all NHS groups with an interest in providing care in the Bolsover area, to sit down and discuss the following. Turn part of the ground floor of the Kitchen Croft Offices into a HOSPITAL WARD. This to provide a ‘half way house’ so that patients can leave the local hospitals, stop ‘bed blocking’ and be TREATED CLOSER TO HOME. Use the large 1st floor office area, as a health & wellbeing centre, ie provide appropriate fitness equipment for elderly patients to use, thereby making them fitter, as well as offering advice on how to keep mobile. A lift is available to give access to this floor. Make use of the rest of the building to provide office space for any/all Health related providers and Charities, so they can give instant access to patients in need. Could the old Council Chamber be refurbished as a small Theatre ( Bolsover Drama Group ), a lecture hall for talks on health related subjects, or even to show films in an afternoon? Turn the Atrium into a Cafe serving Healthy Food and Drinks, as well as offering advice on food related matters to keep us healthy. The existing Sherwood Lodge building, perhaps be restored to its original furnishings, and possibly be used as a Museum covering the history of Bolsover. ( Bolsover Civic Society ). There is a possibility, that the two smaller GP surgeries might be asked to share a facility in future. If this is the case, then why not share space in this building? That would allow for the NHS to sell off the unwanted, unused buildings. Could the outbuildings be refurbished to provide space for the hopeful return of the ‘FALLS SERVICE, or to provide garaging for Emergency Vehicles. There are no doubt numerous other uses for the site, but we need people to get involved and to provide suggestions. None of this can be achieved without a full and frank discussion between all interested parties. The site of the centre is ideal due to having a large car park, and its closeness to local public services. This all relies on the outcome of the 21c public consultation, and the closure of the existing hospital. If this should happen, then we ask that all those named above, to get together and sort out a deal to allow the building of a supermarket on the old hospital site, thus releasing the offices to be redeveloped. The Bolsover public are fed up of seeing vital services being taken away, if we can achieve the above, then we will have a facility to be proud of, smack in the middle of the town. JDS Installations is a Chesterfield based family business run by brothers Jamie and Darren Smith, who specialise in bathroom and wetroom installations. We are not salesman, but a caring and trustworthy company who pride ourselves on our customer’s satisfaction. We back this cliché statement up by not accepting the final 40% of the final balance until our customers are entirely happy with our workmanship. We have no expensive showroom over heads so we pass the savings directly onto our customers. We also install en-suites, cloak rooms and all aspects of porcelain & ceramic tiling. Every project we take on we put our heart and soul into it, from the initial meeting of the potential customer, the designing of the project and right through until the completion of the Installation. All the work is carried out from start to finish entirely by us as we do not subcontract several tradesmen, therefore reducing time delays on your project and minimalising disruption within your home. All our previous customers said that they would have no hesitation in recommending JDS Installations to anyone which means the world to us as we know we have done our job right from start to finish. JDS Installations are installing showroom quality bathrooms & wetrooms throughout Bolsover, Chesterfield, Worksop, Mansfield & all surrounding areas.
“Our main objective within our company is to; leave our customers happy to enjoy their new bathroom, by producing them their own unique showroom quality bathroom”
