At a young age we didn’t have much, certainly more than most in this big wide world, but being raised by a single mother I wasn’t allowed many luxuries beyond the hand-me-down Guess jeans from my mom’s boss. My mother did all she possibly could with the money we had to always make me look dressed to perfection. She sewed, borrowed and everything short of steal to make sure I was a well-dressed young lady. I’m sure this is what led to my love of fashion. I would sit there with my crayons in front of the cartoons and draw dresses on sheet after sheet of repurposed paper that my mom took home from her secretarial job. I still have a stack of about one hundred sketches of dresses, catsuits and short-shorts, crudely drawn by a six-year old. It was my escape, my relaxation. In my teenage years, when we were in a more affluent situation and living in the Bay Area I was afforded the opportunity to embrace my love of fashion. Every summer I would look forward to getting that recycled cardboard ESPRIT postcard with the ‘40% off the entire store’ notice. My mother and I, and possibly one of my lucky friends would make the trek out to the San Francisco industrial neighborhood, stand in line and shop for the amazing ESPRIT bargains that would make me feel pretty and dressed all through the next year of terrifying high school. Fashion shaped me and made me who I am, it was my armor and my savior. It was my escape. And still to this day… Fashion is My Vacation. It inspires me to write, sing and dance. It makes my heart feel light and full at the same time. It makes me want to share this joy with the world. And that is what INSPIRARE is all about - sharing the love of this industry and the new growth within it. How would you describe yourself and your style? I am an extreme perfectionist, but also very laid-back and contemplative. I guess you can see it in my style where there is a constant struggle between boyish, California inspired looks and more put together, typically Parisian ensembles. What is your favorite piece and why? I am getting really into silk joggers; you can’t really beat an elasticated waistband... it also makes a nice change from jeans. Otherwise, I live in Vans and Nike trainers so I am quite glad fashion finally caught up with me on that! I just bought some Nike Roshe Run with palm trees on them, went straight in my top 5 INSPIRARE.COM

favorite places, mainly because of the palm print. I love palm trees. What can people expect to see coming up in your blog this summer? I don’t tend to plan my content in advance, but I have a few trips lined up so expect a lot of travel photos from California, Morocco, Cyprus and many other places! What are you most looking forward to? Right now I am excited about going to California for two weeks, for once not for work so I get to enjoy myself completely.

Why did you start blogging? I was on maternity leave and bored out of my head, I felt I needed to start writing again and so the blog was born! Which trends do you love/hate? I don’t really love any trend. I don’t pay much attention to them. Sometimes my style happens to be in line with current trends, often it isn’t, but I am happier this way. I really don’t like the sudden love for Birkenstock and I think the whole “normcore” movement is a right old pile of junk. We can tell you love to travel! Where is the best place you’ve been so far and why? 25
My favorite place in the world is Los Angeles. It is my happy place. Through the blog, I’ve been to many amazing places, for example last year traveled to South Africa and I still think a lot about this trip as I digest every single bit of it. I just came back from Marrakech where I was staying at the Fellah Hotel… I think I left my heart there. Where are your favorite places in London? I like doing stuff locally. Since I live in Notting Hill I am pretty much spoiled for choice but I would say the Electric Diner is hands down my favorite place at the moment. I love the energy of the city, but I hate that it takes so
long to travel from one place to the next. I also don’t care much for the weather here!
Who is one of your favorite people you met to interview and why?
What’s the most embarrassing thing that you’ve ever done?
I’ve met many cool people, but I think director, musician and cat paint master Jaffe Zinn was one of the best people to interview. So good in fact we ended up becoming friends afterwards!
It changes everyday. I am pretty embarrassing in general as I always speak my mind. I don’t have much of a filter. What are your plans for the future? For the immediate future, I have no idea. However, when I retire I plan on being the most obnoxious old lady ever, getting my boobs out on the beach and chain smoking until death comes a-knocking. INSPIRARE.COM
What is one of your favorite movies? Eraserhead. David Lynch’s weirdness at its best. Also anything by John Waters. Who is your favorite music artist? David Bowie. Currently my friend’s band Summer Camp too.

How do you get fit for summer? I follow Cassey Ho’s Blogilates training programs and I love them. What are you favorite things about summer? Everything — I am definitely a sunshine child, I love the smell in the air, the light, the heat. It inspires me enormously! What do you think will make a comeback this summer? What will you be wearing? Pastels are still very strong and of course slide-on sandals are also a must-have (but please don’t get the ugly ones!). I will be wearing loose pastel or black shirt dresses 27

accessorized with fine gold jewelry and my favorite floral MCM bag! I am also looking for a really great summer hat. We noticed you have a shop on your website. Are these your own clothes? Which is your favorite item in your shop and why? They are my clothes! I like to try and keep my bulging wardrobe under control so I regularly sell my stuff. If it doesn’t get enough love from me, it hopefully will find more love elsewhere. My favorite item in the shop at the moment is my patent red mac, so cute and 60s! The ticket’s booked and the suitcases are packed. Time to escape for the summer. The South of France beckons. Whether you are enjoying black stone beaches, bustling boardwalks or exclusive clubs being as glamourous as you can be is anything but hard. Having the right items packed, the correct state of mind and the confidence to pull it all off will make for an unforgettable vacation. You’re a single girl, there are plenty of exciting new people to meet and you’re beyond ready. It’s time to stop worrying about deadlines and start making the most out of an amazing adventure. Looking and feeling your best is a must. First Things first: having packed your statement hats will help you out in more ways than one. Not only will they complete an entire look, they’ll protect you from harmful rays. Mode avec le but. Jewelry will always play a key role in exuding confidence. Bold pieces bring out a bolder you. Keep the outfit simple and up the ante with colorful and fun pieces. Summertime is gold time. Gold pieces go well with that lovely glow. Now it’s time to complete everything with the right makeup. First and foremost, bronzer is a must. You don’t go into summer with the perfect glow— but Alain doesn’t need to know that. Sun-kissed is always glamourous. Contour and highlight are your friends. Just remember that a cream foundation is important to get that lovely glow. What about the eyes? For some reason during the summer, eye makeup takes a back seat. Fun on the beach deters lots of girls from playing around with shadows. Vacations, however, are an opportunity to step a little bit out of the boring box. You can really have fun and play up your features. Smokey eyes can be worn during the day. Use lighter shades: pale pinks and purples are perfect summer beach colors. An ode to that perfect sunset. To really get those eyes to pop find your perfect smudge proof mascara. All you’re missing is a nice light lip. Gloss is our friend during the summer. It’s playful and fun. You can reapply as needed without having to worry about the heat and the lovely sun melting it in your bag as you would with lipstick. However lipstick is good to have packed in the suitcase—always. Why? You’ll want to make a bolder statement this evening since Alain, the gorgeous French guy from the vineyard who you hung out with at the beach, invited you out to dinner on his boat in Port Hercules this evening.

Small Branch began almost two years ago when, Ana Freire and Roberto Lopez, began designing very thin and delicate rings. After gaining the attention of many in their social circles for their fine craftsmanship, they decided to follow their dream to reality and create a jewelry brand. Ana studied Interior Design at the IED (European Institute of Design) in Madrid, Spain and Fashion Design at Chelsea College of Art and Design in London, England; and Roberto, Industrial Engineering at Universidad Politecnica in INSPIRARE.COM
Madrid, Spain. A perfect partnership of creativity and business, Ana is the creative designer and Roberto is responsible for the web development. The name Small Branch comes from the passion of combining new and traditional styles. Minimalism with a touch of exclusivity. Romance with a touch of nature. Inspiration for their work also comes heavily from La Coru単a, Spain. The birthplace of Ana. Mera, where they spend their summers has also heavily influenced their work. Spain in general seems to inspire the fusion of fashion and nature in these young designers. 66

Hasselhoff-ian Proportions Written by Christine Mathias
Having a famous parent can ruin a person. It can cast a shadow, sometimes a long one, and breaking free to create a separate identity can being painful. Hayley Hasselhoff has never had this problem. The beautiful and talented model-actress daughter of TV star David Hasselhoff (Knight Rider, Baywatch) and model-actress Pamela Bach has been modeling for 7 years already, and she's not yet 22 years old. She's co-starred in an ABC Family show and has done other TV work-- but she's got something unique and marketable about her that's keeping her happily employed and creatively stimulated in the fashion industry. She's not a size 0. Or a 6. Or even a 10. She's a 14, proudly, just INSPIRARE.COM
like a jillion other women in the United States and around the world. Hayley Hasselhoff is, technically speaking, a plus-size model. And while being a more average-size person in an abnormal environment like Hollywood (abnormal, as in, that many attractive people shouldn't live so close together) can create self-esteem issues and warp a person's perception of beauty, Miss Hasselhoff has had little issue. "Becoming a plus size model at such a young age gave me a beautiful insight at another way of beauty in the industry and in life. I grew up seeing women with great full figures, and they were beautiful and healthy." And recently the term "plus-size," itself, has come under scrutiny in the blogosphere for the divisions 86
it can create throughout the modeling and fashion industries. Like, why can't every model just be part of the same big pool of talent? While Miss Hasselhoff has no problem with being known as Plus, "I do believe that the word can create divisions‌ what people do not realize is there are a lot of plus size models gracing the pages‌not labeled plus size so people do not realize. The industry has a funny way of deciding when they want to label the model as Plus Size for the reader to see." But this segment of the fashion industry has undergone "drastic" change since Hayley started modeling. Demand for her body type for runway and editorial work is way up, in fact, so much so that she declared "there is a huge movement happening in the fashion industry." America 87
has lagged behind, though, in recognizing the high-fashion potential of this supposed niche. "I do believe that Europe has been more encouraging with new designers and up to date then America. But Australia and South Africa are not far behind." Why more top designers have yet to enter the plus-size market is still a sticking point. "It’s a difficult market to get into as you need to master a curvy figure through manufacturing." At least "more brands are catching on to the idea that women, regardless of size, want to be fashionable. Muumuus" are "giving way to fine tailoring, luxurious fabrics and fashion-forward cuts that rival top tier designers." And there are definitely some

Legendary houses like Chanel, for its "timelessness…impeccable fit and classic offerings…" The more "accessible" Chloe -- Hayley is a "tailored trousers and structured pieces" sort of girl and appreciates the label's "high fabrication and design." And Hasselhoff gravitates toward Miu Miu's "unexpected patterns" and thinks their "embellishment is some of the best in business." Hedi Slimane, photographer and Creative Director for YSL is first on her list of inspirations. "He does little to almost no Photoshop…he shoots people for who they are. I'd love to pick his brain and watch how he designs up close and personal." But most surprisingly is Hayley's expressed desire to work with… Quentin Tarantino? "He's a master at storytelling…his ability to take 'x' subject and put his signature flair out there without compromising….is revolutionary." Even a confident, successful young woman, whose image and life's work is intimately tied to her body's specific curves, even she can come up against criticism. "The last one was a doctor I saw to do an annual check up. He told me I was perfectly healthy but overweight and that INSPIRARE.COM
I would never work in my industry because of it. He even continued to ask me if I would lose weight for a 'skinny girl' role. He only knew that I was a model/actress from the occupation section on the offices files. I kindly asked again 'But my weight is not affecting my health?'" After this physician drove home, again, his opinion that Hayley was "overweight," she told him that this was "his opinion," and she excused herself politely, head held high. While she was appalled by the situation, she has said she tries to use negativity like that as "encouragement to tell women that as long as you are healthy at your weight you have the right to be at whatever size makes you feel beautiful!" With such passion for the art and appreciation for the craft, Hayley Hasselhoff likely has a long and bright future ahead of her. 2014 has already been a whirlwind, being Ambassador to Pulp Paris Fashion Week, and top-secret UK and Germany projects in the works for next year. And she won't be kicking back any time soon. "I know that I will forever be evolving as an artist whether it be in acting, modeling, fashion or music. I hope to be able to strengthen my craft to the best of my ability and work in all avenues of my artistry.” Any advice for the Inspirare reader? "Stay true to yourself. Find your path in life & in fashion. Let trends inspire you but find what style looks best on you and your figure then incorporate the trend." After all -- "Fashion is a representation of yourself without speaking. Fashion is an outlet and an art."

She loves "the Curve and Remi Ray because of their impeccable designs with leather. Evans Cut Collection as the prints remind me a lot of what Peter Pilotto did for Target in America. Meri…silks and fur. La Stampa and Zizi have a fun way to bring in a unique sense of style for the average women."

Mishael Morgan is a driven beauty with one of those rare minds that houses logic and creativity under one roof. With her passion for the world emanating out of every word, she shares with INSPIRARE some of her life experiences, challenging decisions and (of course) her favorite fashion choices. Do you remember anything about your early life in San Fernando, Trinidad? I was 5 when I left, so I don't have many memories. But I just remembered being so happy with all my cousins and huge extended family who still live there. And I remember the food, oh I feel like a "Doubles" right now! INSPIRARE.COM
After leaving Trinidad and moving to Toronto at the age of five, how did growing up in Canada shape who you are today? Moving to another country as a child is very dramatic for sure. I left behind everyone I knew, all of our family and friends. I think that move taught me that life changes and you can either change with it, and embrace new things, or fight against it and be unhappy. I learned how to adapt to many different environments and people at such a young age, and it has had a lasting effect on me. Canada is also such a multicultural country and it has made me very adventurous! I just want to see the world, every part of it! In Toronto espe184

until I broke my neck in a car accident, and realized that life was too short to play it safe. So I met an agent and starting acting while I was completing my undergrad. The fork in the road came when I was accepted into law school and I booked a series regular role at the same time. I asked myself which was the safe road, and I deferred my Law School acceptance and ventured into the unknown. It was the hardest decision I had to make, but becoming a full time actress terrified me, so I knew it was right choice. What knowledge did you take away from the experience of a drastic shift in careers?

I pursued political science as my undergrad to get into Law School. But I was fascinated with the history of global politics and that's when I decided that I wanted to focus on international human rights law, in law school. How and why did you make the switch from law to acting? Acting has always been a part of my heart and my soul. From the second I stepped on the stage in my elementary school play, I realized that I never felt more free and excited doing anything else. Unfortunately, I couldn't convince my logical mind that acting was a serious career. I continued pursuing what I thought was a good stable career, INSPIRARE.COM
I learned that you can do anything if you have faith in yourself and your journey. In this day and age, people change careers all the time and if the life your living doesn't make you feel alive, challenged and scared to death sometimes, then your not doing what you love. But most importantly, you're not growing as a person. I have had so many adventures as an artist; ups and downs that I thought would break me, but I wouldn't be an ounce of the person I am today if didn't make that choice. In May 2013 you landed a part on a VERY well known soap opera. Tell us about your character on The Young and the Restless? Hilary Curtis arrived in Genoa city to wreak havoc on Neil Winters and his family because she felt he was responsible for her mothers death. Hilary is a smart, savvy, independent woman with a chip on her shoulder but a warm heart. She grew up with an alcoholic mother and an absentee father. She definitely wants more for her life and she is trying to make her dreams come true. As soaps go, tables have 186
turned, and Hilary is currently engaged to the very man she tried to destroy - Neil. Her dream of starting a family is beginning to come true but it hasn't been easy. Right now Hilary is in a love triangle with Neil and his son Devon but she is trying to be a good person and do the right thing. Hilary is still trying to find herself and her place in the world. In one word, how would you define Hilary Curtis’ fashion style? Business-classy If you could sneak one thing out of Hilary’s closet, what would it be (don't worry, we won't tell the costume designer)? My new caged booty by Via Spiga I think...... I love shoes! What does FASHION and STYLE mean to you on a personal note? On a personal level, I love fashion! It's like playing dress up and if you feel good about what you're wearing, they you feel good in general. Taking the time to add a little style to your life can make you more confident in any situation. In your closet at home, do you have a favorite piece? If so, tell us about it. I love my Jimmy Choo shoes! They're a sparkly pump with a good amount of toe cleavage... gotta have the toe cleavage! I also love this little black dress that I got from Guess years ago, it's my go too, you can dress it up or down. A girl always needs her little black dress.
As the middle sister of 3 girls, was your closet pilfered on a regular basis? No, I was the one pilfering through my older sister's closets. We would get into a lot of fights about that, but I got better at sneaking things out, and back in, hehe. Also having acted in multiple feature films such as "Beat the World" (2011), "Casino Jack" (2010), "Total Recall" (2012), and "Swearnet" (2014), do you find the clothing and costume design has a strong effect on the personality of your characters? Oh my gosh, of course! I feel the character through the wardrobe. I remember booking this role in a pilot and I thought of her as a tomboy-badass but when I put on the sexy wardrobe they gave me, I couldn't help playing her more sultry and devious. Wardrobe has a huge effect on my choices as an actress for sure! What else is on the horizon for Mishael’s career? Well Swearnet will be coming out later this summer and Backpacers will begin airing on the CW on July 14, so you can definitely check me out in both of those amazing projects. Currently I have been so focused on Y&R, that I'm not really sure what's next. But I became an actress to play other people so I am getting a little itch to pile a little more on my plate. Edgy Meets Elegant Written by Maddie Rutherford
When most 10-year-old girls were merely dressing up their Barbie dolls, Nicole Bell was drawing her own designs and making her own “catalogs” to showcase them. This is when she knew she wanted to be a fashion designer. The 22-year-old clothing connoisseur was even dressing herself before she could walk. “I think I’ve always been interested in fashion and just wasn’t old enough to even realize it,” she said. “When I was two I had an opinion about what I wanted to wear and wouldn’t let my parents dress me.” Fast-forward to nearly a decade later, and Bell is an AAU graduate who recently displayed her latest collection at the university’s graduating INSPIRARE.COM
senior fashion show. In the next few years, she hopes to be a successful designer for her own label, continuing to showcase her designs on local and international runways. When asked to describe her designs in five words, Bell replied: Crazy, confident, playful, attractive, and ambitious; not unlike the women that wear them. “I describe my designs as being sexy sophistication with a twist of avant-garde”, said the designer. Her pieces somewhat reflect her own personal style, which she describes as sophisticated with an individualistic flair. Her designs are a bit more colorful than her everyday style, 190

although she loves wearing bold statement pieces. Her favorite colors to work with are oranges and reds and her favorite fabric is organza. “Trendy is someone that is following others in what others think is fashionable,” said Bell. “But someone who is fashionable doesn’t watch the trends. They start them.” Her favorite designers are Elsa Schiaparelli, Jean Paul Gaultier, Givenchy, Alexander McQueen and Zimmerman. But her biggest inspiration for her designs is a bit more abstract. “I get my inspirations by traveling,” she said. “By capturing the moments with my camera and INSPIRARE.COM
then transferring them to my designs.” Bell’s next project is showcasing and selling some of her clothes at an event called Chillin in SF on July 19th, which will also include the work of 80 other designers and 200 artists. “Most of the clothes I will be showing will be of a slightly newer, slightly modified version of my last collection,” said Bell. “I want to take my last collection and make it a tad more wearable yet still a little out there and have an edge to it.” Originally from Houston, Texas, the young designer’s early ambitions included attending FIT in New York. However, upon meeting fellow designer and 194
