President’s Introduction 2009 was a tough year in the Romanian media market, as we felt the effects of the global economic crisis. Our industry faced significant challenges, with the overall advertising market declining by 35 percent. Despite this, the INTACT Media Group continued to make great strides towards our vision of being the leading Romanian content provider – achieving 29.5 percent audience share growth in our TV division, a phenomenal 120 percent growth in radio and a strengthened presence in print and online. Whilst 2010 will undoubtedly see a difficult start, I am confident the strategic measures we put in place in 2009 will ensure our financial stability and provide a solid business platform for us to succeed in the future. I believe strongly in the professionalism, creativity and talent of my team. Thanks to their dedication and commitment more than 14 million Romanian people are entertained, excited and educated by our programming, radio shows, print and online publications every day. We know that 2010 will require great focus in order to sustain our business. We will do this by concentrating on the three key pillars of business success: programming, structure and communications. Content remains a priority for us. During 2009 we introduced a number of new formats and stars. We will continue to develop our programming so that it delivers high quality content, entertainment and information to our audiences. We have already made changes to our structure that support our ambition and will continue our focus on results during 2010. We have a strong management team, dedicated to our core values of passion, care and disci-

pline. We have also built a new sales team, focused on a fresh and creative approach to developing bespoke TV packages for clients that drive impact with key audiences. We are confident in our future and committed to ensuring the public and our partners have access to the smartest and most creative content and communication platforms. We will continue to work hard in 2010 and look forward to taking all aspects of our business –print, broadcast, online and services – to a new level. Kind regards, Camelia Voiculescu President, INTACT Media Group

INTACT TV in 2009 A highly ambitious and driven group of people, the INTACT Media Group aspires to bring the very best audiences to its advertising partners. The Group has a constant focus on programming to ensure that it delivers high-quality, targeted content with strong appeal that is true to Romanian values. All INTACT Media Group TV Channels performed very well during 2009, attracting a total viewing share of 18 percent of the ‘Urban 15 - 54’ audience across the port-
folio in 2009. This represented an impressive 29.5 percent year on year growth compared to 2008’s 13.9 percent share. This requires a significant investment in nurturing Romanian talent and the Group has helped some of the country’s brightest stars to develop their careers, from Razvan & Dani and Mircea Badea to Dan Negru and Buzdugan & Morar. Success in 2009 can be attributed to the Group’s continuing focus on developing high quality program-

ming that is local and relevant to the Romanian people. The Group introduced a number of new shows, including Să Te Prezint Părinţilor and Super Bingo Metropolis, while popular formats including compelling news (Antena 3, Observator) and engaging entertainment programmes (Neatza, În Puii Mei!) continued to be popular with audiences.

The Group’s strategy of developing compelling content and refining programming will continue during 2010. In the first quarter, Antena 1 will introduce a new, fresh approach to telling the news on Observator 19 that will offer a genuine alternative to other Romanian news shows. While the Group produces the majority of its programmes in Romania, it also carefully evaluates international formats to bring the best entertainment to its audiences and has successfully introduced The Oprah Winfrey Show, Top Gear and Beat the Blondes to the Romanian people.

It wasn’t just news but also established prime time shows that contributed to
this success, including Sinteza Zilei, Știrea Zilei and În Gura Presei. Euforia continued to have a loyal following in the Urban Women 15-55 segment, securing 0.9 percent audience share in 2009. The best-performing shows on the channel were Shopping-ul: Pasiunea Mea and Inelul cu Diamant. Euforia and GSP TV combined contributed a further 1.3 percent to the reach of the Group’s portfolio in 2009. Understandably, it was a big year for news and Antena 3 was watched by 39.5 percent of households on average in 2009, peaking at 62.4 percent on 6th December 2009, due to the second round of the presidential elections.

Daily Reach Evolution Bucharest*
Radio Romantic continued to pull in a loyal listener base with 4.4 percent audience share and 59,800 listeners per day in Bucharest alone. Radio Romantic is one of the Group’s most established brands, yet it continued to evolve during 2009, when the station became interactive, adding nine online niche radio stations to its service. The station also launched an innovative SMS service, inviting listeners to send a text message to receive information about the song they are listening to. In line with these developments, Radio Romantic became a commercial station for the first time and began offering limited space to a select group of advertisers. The Group plans to further expand its radio division in 2010 and beyond, particularly online, based on the rise of Internet penetration in Romania and demand from Romanian communities abroad. 16 * Source: Imas, Mercury, aug-dec wave 2009

INTACT Print in 2009 INTACT Media Group’s print publications continue to perform well, despite the significant challenges faced by the global print industry. Almost twenty years old, Jurnalul Naţional is the best-selling quality newspaper in România. Since its arrival on newsstands, the paper has emerged as the ‘one-toread’ and remains the number one quality newspaper in terms of sales. During 2009, Jurnalul Naţional continued to deliver increased value to their readers through a number of initiatives that extend the presence of the publication in daily life. 2009 saw Jurnalul Naţional launch the incredibly popular Biblioteca pentru Toţi, giving readers the opportunity to expand their own personal library. By the end of 2009, there were 50 volumes in the library which has sold over 7.2million copies. The first three editions set new sales records for the publication, with Cel mai iubit dintre pământeni (Marin Preda) selling 250,000 copies, while Maitreyi (Mircea Eliade) and Pânza de Păianjen (Cella Serghi) also sold over 220,000 copies each. In October 2009, Jurnalul Naţional launched Mişcarea de Rezistenţă, a resistance movement to combat elements of society that undermine Romanian values. This campaign has received the support of high-profile Romanians from actors and presenters to sporting heroes and artists who are all committed to removing poor-quality, corrupt or hypocritical behaviour from public life. Scanteia was a four-page supplement delivered for free throughout the year. This was an incredibly moving journal of memories from the fall of Communism in 1989, which documented the experiences of Romanian people from diverse walks of life, including artists, censors and military. Jurnalul Naţional continued its successful music events which entertain thousands of Romanians each
year. Folk You reached its third year of this popular event which celebrates folk artists and quality music. Tarafuri și fanfare also had a successful third year of bringing together highly regarded Romanian bands for a two-day event of live, traditional Romanian music. Both events are central to the newspaper’s ethos of promoting Romanian culture and talent. 19
