We aren’t so much interested in reinforcing old ineffective systems and products as we are about getting involved in the industry. In meeting and chatting with cleaners and cleaning managers to discover what is really going on. David Armstrong, Majectic Aged Care Servies Wayne Dixon, Barwon Cleaning Supplies

Majestic Cleaning About 18 months ago I was introduced to David Armstrong from Majestic Cleaning. David had been cleaning nursing homes in Victoria for some time and was using our products. He requested the best system possible to deliver better cleaning to his clients, while at the same time make his cleaner’s jobs easier and more productive.

He arranged for a meeting at one of his facilities and invited some of the best minds in the industry. Wayne Dixon from Barwon Cleaning Supplies and Jamie Finkler from Enzyme Wizard joined David and myself.

When looking at the traditional ways Aged Care facilities are cleaned with old fashioned mops, buckets and cloths being used in multiple rooms, it became clear that we had to build a system around the idea that it was our job not to spread the germs.

It was decided that we would create a system that would: • Minimise Cross Infection, having clean tools for each room 2

• Keep the facility clean, not deep clean it occasionally or weekly.

• Be easy for staff to minimise time wasting • Be easy to implement and train creating consistency.

• Be safe for staff and residents with lockable cabinets for chemicals • Be as Green as possible and minimise the use of chemicals and water being tipped down the drain • Be productive allowing staff time to do extra cleaning where and when required • Be a complete system • Each task should be Easy, Fast & Safe This is where the Asepsis Aged Care Cleaning Standard came from. We built the system based on the needs of David’s best customers and on his need for a better system, that he can deliver at a reasonable cost. It’s a system that allows for fresh microfibre to be used in each separate area, built around achieving all of these goals.

Asepsis is the state of being free from disease causing contaminants (such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites). It is also used to describe the practices used to create a state of asepsis – most often in an operative field like surgery and medicine. The focus is on eliminating infection and this is what the Asepsis system is all about, eliminating infection and maintaining the highest possible clean.

NEW PRODUCTS Accurate Dosing Of Microfibre Mops Now Available Do you have a lot of cleaner’s using pre-moistened microfibre mops? Do they use them with varying amount of solution, some too dry and some too wet?

If you would like a pre-measured, premoistening system for your microfibre mops that fits onto the front of your trolley, then the new ACCU-DOSE system is for you!

One or two 6L solution containers lock into the Accu-Dose system allowing you to control a measured amount of solution to moisten your mops or wall washing heads. A second solution can be used for bleach solution for your infectious cleans. This system can be trolley mounted or wall mounted for outside theatres.

Is emptying your bins A WASTE OF TIME? Many facilities have bins that require emptying 2 to 3 times a day. If you’re used to seeing bins over-flowing then chances are your cleaners don’t have enough time to empty them this frequently.

In these circumstances it is not uncommon for cleaners to do a waste bin run first thing in the morning, and then another waste bin run at the end of their shift. If they need to empty all bins then this can take an hour per run, and you can imagine how much time that takes up over a year.

In order to halve the amount of time spent emptying bins, why not try placing larger bins where they are required. This can produce up to 1 hour a day in time savings.

COMPACT MICROFIBRE SYSTEM Recently I have spent quite some time setting up cleaning systems in mining camps in outback Western Australia. In many cases we have needed a cleaning system for cleaning very small, very dirty Donga’s. These are small container sized dwellings lined up in dusty paddocks where fly in fly out miners spend their sleeping and showering hours. The red dust build up in incredible and would you believe the tiny bathrooms are extremely dirty, not just from the red dust, but from an overload of body fat, soap scum and mineral stains and mining greases.

To deal with this we needed a faster way to clean heavier build-up that we could clean more often without wearing out the cleaner. First I started to make some shower cleaning pads that would scrub more, and we soon found out that smaller pads were easier to use, allowing for more pressure to be dispersed over a smaller area. Then we started trialing the use of Scrub-E pads on a hand held holder and this is where things really started to get interesting.

and after this success have created a few new mop covers that go on a 30cm frame.

This means we can now clean the shower and the bathroom floor with the same mop.

The next step was to find a small trolley system or large bucket that could hold enough Microfibre for 5 rooms.
