A PERFECT PORTRAIT OF THE FATHER
All of our actions are brush strokes that paint a portrait of God for the world to see. Life, in the Garden, was fulfilling and eternal. Life, outside the Garden, was mere existence that ended in death. Genesis assures us clearly that Kingdom Living is what mankind is designed to do. It is our fulfillment to live in an interactive ongoing relationship with the Creator. Jesus opened the gates to the Garden for us through His death and resurrection. But we must humble ourselves and acknowledge our state of disobedience. Just like in the Garden, true freedom, true joy, is only possible when we live under God’s rule. There lies the Kingdom of God. ACFO’s mission statement speaks of “helping people discover the Kingdom of
We sometimes speak about “living in God’s Kingdom” in such a way that we miss the power and deep meaning of these words. God’s Kingdom is our place of origin. Genesis tells us that mankind came into being in this kingdom (the Garden of Eden) where our first parents, Adam and Eve, enjoyed an interactive relationship with God and an unrestrained enjoyment of all His creation. But it also says that complete human freedom is not possible without an obedient relationship with God. Because of disobedience to God Adam and Eve were expelled from the Garden; prevented from re-entering by their own strength; and condemned to work the land for survival.

an act. God is not only seen in the end of what I do but also in the means I use to accomplish His end in this world. As Jesus says, “…let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16) It is more than people only seeing my good deeds, and that is all they will see if I accomplish them in MY way. This will result in praise for me, not God. No, my life is to be such that good deeds clearly result in praise for the Father in heaven, not me. Prayer is the key in living such a life. We see this clearly in the life of Jesus. Notice in the Gospels, how often He goes off to pray. Jesus often talks of how, “when you see me…you see the Father” and how He is “one” with the Father. The Father did not
send Jesus to earth and leave it to Him to figure out the details of how to save mankind. No, Jesus’ life was a total involvement with the Father in all the details of His life on this earth. Jesus did nothing outside of his Father’s Will. To the Father the means are as important as the end for both are to be done in love. ACFO is being called to return to its roots of prayer. Through daily prayer we can live in the Kingdom--God deeply involved with us and us deeply involved with God. Interweaving the brush strokes of God’s portrait such that it is impossible to know our brush strokes from God’s. The portrait the world sees by our life will be God’s portrait, not our own. v

What characterizes a Christian, so that others say, "I want what that person's got?" The distinguishing marks of a Christian are unconditional acceptance, unconditional forgiveness, and unconditional love. The side effects of these characteristics are joy, tireless determination, a radiating love, and a readiness to pray instantly. Unconditional is the key word. I shouldn't judge people, but I do. Some I don't readily accept as they make me feel uncomfortable, others have irritating habits, and there are even some who "aren't from my planet!" I have to work at accepting them. Unconditional forgiveness is easier because living in a state of unconditional forgiveness was the only way I could survive as a pastor. Unconditional love is my greatest challenge, but is the most rewarding. We are to love our neighbor as ourselves (Matthew 19:19). I've discovered that the key to loving my neighbor is to pray for my neighbor. It works like this. We deliberately set our minds to focus on our neighbor, be it a co-worker, a clerk in a store, or strangers we pass on the street. We think thoughts of love towards them (Jeremiah
29:11). We are ever observant for opportunities to offer hope, to pray for them, to encourage them. These are marks of loving. For example, if you notice someone in pain, stop and politely ask if you may pray for them. If they say "Yes," offer a short and simple prayer of authority. "Pain, come out in the name of Jesus." Or, "Headache, by the authority of Jesus' name I command you to cease and all pain and stress to leave." You don't have to touch the person, or the point of pain. If you do, be discreet. Your job is to convey God’s love to the person. Caring about them is how it's done. Leave the results in God's hands. We always want immediate results, but immediate results are the exception, not the rule. You just speak the word of authority and trust God to do the rest after you've gone. Sunrise at Fiji CFO, the first CFO to greet each new day and the first to pray the 9:00 prayer each evening.
Bits and pieces of Steve Green’s song are running through my mind. “People need the Lord…we are called to take His light…He’s the open door…they must hear the words of life only we can share…” People Need The Lord & The Lord Needs People! The Lord has chosen us…sanctified us by His truth…called us to bear His fruit… to pray. ‘To walk in love as Christ has loved us’ and ‘to walk as children of Light because we are Light in the Lord’(Eph. 5: 2 & 8). Let us make the most of every opportunity. We are His Athletes of the Spirit to be about The Father’s business just as Jesus did His Father’s work when He was here on earth. In the last days before Jesus was crucified He said, “The Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. Love one another.” He prayed, “My prayer is not that You, Father, take them out of the world but that You protect them from the evil one.”(John 17:15).
Jesus also said,“Greater works than these you shall do because I go to my Father.” (John 14: 12-14). “Prayer is the greater work.” (Oswald Chambers, My Utmost for His Highest). So let us pray wherever we live…whatever the circumstances…for whoever needs prayer. Results always happen from God’s point of view when there is prayer. May we each be obedient to God’s calling… to seek Him diligently in silence and prayer…to come together often in prayer with others. I believe God is still calling for an increase of many prayer groups all around the world: As many prayer groups as there are fireflies in an Iowa cornfield on a hot July summer night. “Now to Him who is able to do more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us…to God be the glory!” (Eph. 3: 20). “I can say that I seldom had the privilege to be in a group of people so open and eager to learn to listen to God and be in His presence. His presence was real,” writes Erika, after leading at the CFOI camp in Ukraine. The camp has been meeting for just a few years, with a young, dedicated Council Ring. Last year a family from Ukraine CFO moved to Poland, and wanted to start CFO there. They began to pray, and soon had a prayer group meeting regularly. They wanted to hold a CFO camp, and they invited leaders from other countries to come and train new leaders; that training was held in early summer 2013. Then in August the first Poland CFO was held, with support from CFOI leaders from Germany, United Kingdom and The Netherlands. Praise God for this growth, and may it serve as a model for spreading training camps for Kingdom Living in more countries.
