Companies are facing increasing challenges not only from information technology but also from the ever-changing needs of users and user groups. These accelerated challenges are driving enterprises to be more adaptable, flexible and scalable, yet simultaneously to be more cost-effective and secure in maintaining their IT infrastructure. To increase their innovativeness, enterprises need new concepts of networking and information exchange. It is now prudent to seek the next step in outsourcing evolution: embracing real-time exchange within the close proximity of communities of mutual interest. This very human concept of “togetherness” is becoming more and more true for businesses, particularly tight-knit groups in finance, digital media and the growing cloud community. The resulting formula for success now is to: focus on what you do best. The rest – such as outsourcing – entrust to others with deep experience. Therefore, seeking a connection to a community of other highly engaging enterprises, for example, in well-placed, high quality, carrier-neutral data centres, is now truly smart business.

4 Communities: Stronger together

Just a few years ago, cloud computing and web-oriented architecture were met with considerable scepticism. But these outsourcing concepts have since established themselves and exhibit great potential for development. Interxion accommodates hundreds of companies from the finance industry, content providers and other service providers that invest in innovation and have built their success on it. The outsourcing of IT structures has emerged as an efficient solution for SMEs and large enterprises. But high-quality infrastructure and secure data centres alone are no longer enough. The digital exchange of large volumes of information with business partners, customers and suppliers is now an integral part of everyday business in companies from all sectors. Data centres therefore have to offer an environment for simplified data exchange, so that customers can develop new business models, increase their company's ROI and enhance its value in the long term.

Different communities for different needs At several Interxion sites in different countries, communities from financial services and telecommunications providers, cloud providers and customers from other sectors are currently being developed or are already active. These communities include companies along all stages of the value chain. The Financial Hub, for instance, links stock exchanges, as brokers, capital markets firms and banks. Content providers and distributors from the telecommunications sector form the Digital Media Hub, and the Cloud Hub unites a broad range of cloud providers. Companies from other sectors can also connect with their business partners and form their own communities in line with requirements. The advantages are clear Beyond the community, Interxion provides its customers with easy connectivity to the widest choice of carriers, ISPs, internet exchanges and other network operators in order to build the communication network in a way that ensures maximum user-friendliness. In the finance industry, this offers advantages such as better

5

responsiveness for real-time transactions. For the telecommunications sector, it means effective management of content along the entire value chain, as well as fail-safe performance for live and real-time services. Cloud providers can also reduce their costs with direct peering and establish easy, lower cost connections by means of cross connects. Keep complexity under control The complexity of managing data streams has increased due to factors such as data format, movement of data between different platforms, applications and people, and differences in the technological capabilities of business partners. Furthermore, B2B standards and compliance requirements for data transfer and data storage must be adhered to. To derive maximum benefit from the communities and achieve commercial success for all participants along the value chain, it is important to consider the following points: Leadership: a company should assume the role of community leader and maintain an overview of the developments

Communication: the leader should keep its community abreast of the latest developments, inform it of KPIs (key performance indicators) and communicate the benefits of use to the outside world Proactivity: potential partners should be defined as early as possible and included in the process Technology: shared IT structures should be analysed and, if necessary, consolidated Flexibility: effective and successful practices of partners and customers should be incorporated and, where applicable, adopted Support: new members should be actively involved and supported when joining the community and in the adoption of specific IT practices ANDREA LUIGI CAMPOMILLA Operations Manager Do you have any questions for Andrea Luigi Campomilla? > contact: +41 44 562 30 80 andreaca@interxion.com Interxion Newsletter

6 Cloud Community: The internet's next evolutionary step

The world's thirst for data is unquenchable: more and more data is being produced in all areas, from social media, to research, through to e-commerce and online banking. Those wishing to keep pace must continually invest in upgrading their IT – or simply make use of cloud computing. A growing number of companies are discovering the array of possibilities offered by cloud computing, which make business applications easier and more flexible and mobile. “Cloud computing is a logical evolutionary step for IT,” says Patrick Roth from bloosite AG. “And the next step is community clouds.” bloosite AG – “convenient" IT for evolving business models Swiss company bloosite AG helps SMEs to keep pace with the rapidly changing market by offering “convenient” IT for evolving business models. Companies benefit from a ready-to-go package with a usagebased pricing model. At the same time, the workloads and task completion times of their IT staff can be greatly reduced.

With protected and publicly accessible cloud products, bloosite operates infrastructures and platforms as a service. Among other things, the company offers virtual servers and desktops, and print and voice services, which are provided from data centres in Switzerland. bloosite combines these with the required level of security, high availability and the right SLA to serve almost every industry and market segment. Homogeneous requirements and use of the same software within the individual sectors enable further standardisation and optimisation. This gives rise to community clouds, which offer optimised processes and software for the same users. A solid foundation for the cloud Interxion's 32 state-of-the-art data centres throughout Europe house Cloud Hubs; i.e. communities of cloud service providers. Each Cloud Hub offers the ideal environment in which to develop and provide cloud services, and cut networking costs, ensure network stability and reduce latency. Cloud Hubs also offer easy access to potential customers.

7 “ In Interxion's Cloud Hub, we found an interesting community of value chain partners. No other colocation provider is able to offer us access to a community in this form.” [Patrick Roth, CEO, bloosite AG]

In order to meet customer requirements and develop tailored solutions, bloosite interacts with other partners within this community, focusing on infrastructure and platform services. This has allowed community cloud solutions to be developed together with software providers and consulting partners. For the customer, this means a standardised product that can nevertheless be customised. To meet the need among software and service providers for a realistic test environment, Interxion operates Cloud Test Labs. In this virtual proof-of-concept environment, the provider can test different scenarios – without any risk – and thereby ensure that the service will meet real-world requirements after being launched. This test phase, which is offered free of charge, allows customers to focus on their priorities when developing new services and shortens time to market. Added value A scalable infrastructure for customers and partners turns fixed costs into variable costs, improves commercial

agility and enables SMEs in particular to form enterprise-class systems. Agility is increased through rapid provision of the infrastructure and subsequently shorter product development and launch phases. Cloud computing – the internet's next evolutionary step.

8 Financial Community: Helping the finance industry to benefit from change

Today's finance industry is characterised by uncertainty and regulatory changes. The economic and political landscape poses certain challenges, made all the more complex by a liberal attitude towards competition that has opened the door to globalisation. Big data is becoming increasingly important for financial services, as investment firms manage their risks in real-time and banks and insurance companies in the retail segment aim to exploit the explosive growth of digital customer databases in order to tailor their products and services more effectively. Regulatory requirements have created pressure to increase capital and liquidity reserves, and to meet stricter requirements for security, data storage and business continuity. These pressures mean that companies have to increase their agility by creating more cost-effective, flexible and scalable IT infrastructures. To achieve the necessary reliability with their own resources, companies must preemptively and continually invest significant budgets in areas that are not part of their core business.

Benefiting from shorter routes – our communities at the heart of financial markets Interxion's data centres offer a highly secure alternative for hosting systems and data at state-of-the-art sites in the heart of financial markets throughout Europe, helping companies to respond quickly to new requirements – because we understand the needs of market players from the financial community. Banking The changing regulations governing data security and business continuity, the growing demand for high-performance computing resources and the constant search for ways to reduce costs all exert pressure on IT infrastructures in the banking sector. Capital markets Capital market players need quick connectivity to exchanges, the ability to connect with business partners within the data centre, and fast and flexible provision of all services.

9 “ For us, Interxion is not only a reliable supplier. As a strategic partner, it enables us to provide our customers with a more secure and cost-effective environment.” [Hans Blindenbacher, CEO, Econis AG]

Insurance The wider political, economic and regulatory changes, combined with groundbreaking technology, are causing European insurance companies to rethink their data centre strategies and strive for greater flexibility and lower capital and operating costs. Econis – service provider from the financial community for the financial community Many companies are seeking not only a state-of-the-art data centre with flexible space packages, industry-leading operation and maintenance standards, but also proximity to the financial markets. Service providers such as Econis AG aim to connect to an existing community with potential customers and partners. Econis has been supporting Swiss companies – including financial services providers – with complete, customer-oriented infrastructure solutions and services since 1997. The company has played a major part since 2005 in the engineering and development of a new IT infrastructure for one of the largest retail banks in Switzerland.

The services were enhanced gradually on the basis of the developed mutual trust, and Econis has also been operating significant components of this infrastructure since the switch to Finnova. In addition, the company has been providing high-quality services for various cantonal banks and other customers from the financial services sector for several years. It will continue to focus consistently on the requirements of financial services providers, and offer its customers highquality, cost-effective IT services and a high degree of flexibility with 100% “Swissness”. The company will utilise the information flow within the network for this purpose. After all, the fastest and shortest route is the most direct.

12 Live communities: Why Interxion focuses on events

Even in today's technological age, personal communication continues to play an important role. It is essential for personal and professional success. Interxion's Community Events offer participants the chance to exchange ideas with acquaintances from the sector, make contact with new ones, and develop new business ideas and opportunities. Connect, interact and grow – our communities Interxion understands the diverse requirements of the various business sectors and the resulting differing expectations of data centre services. Many companies and sectors are seeking not only a state-of-the-art data centre with flexible space packages and industryleading operation and maintenance standards – a good city centre location and direct proximity to financial exchanges are also critical for their business. For other companies, a broad range of connectivity options, including specialist service providers, is more important, while others are looking to connect to an existing community with potential customers and partners.

But community building is not a shortterm process – it must be regarded from a long-term perspective. Over the past years, Interxion has successfully managed to build communities for sectors such as cloud computing, digital media and telecommunications, and also for financial services providers and systems integrators – both locally and Europewide. Live communities – our event format This year Interxion has been holding Community Events based on its focus sectors, thereby offering optimum networking and information possibilities tailored to the different target groups and objectives. The Community Events programme is a well-balanced composition of the following content: · Selected product presentations by existing partners and customers · Informative, topic-specific lectures and discussions (think-tanks) · Culinary treats and plenty of time for networking

13

Past Community Events that confirm the success of our new initiative The two Cloud Community Events held in spring 2012 made a positive impression on all participants, who unanimously agreed that the evenings were a resounding success, with interesting speeches and discussions and rewarding conversations, accompanied by excellent catering. Review On 26 January 2012, Interxion joined forces with bloosite AG and IBM Schweiz AG to hold an event for end customers on the topic of “Cloud Computing – can you see the benefits for your business?”. Roberto Grassi, Managing Director of RM IT Professional Resources AG, demonstrated how cloud computing can be used successfully in an SME by using a practical example with impressive live log-ins. The subsequent discussion with representatives of the above companies was given a theoretical perspective by Pietro Brossi, Programme Director Business Information Technology at Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW). This was especially important given the audience's many questions on the topic of law and

liability. The lively discussions in the drinks interlude and during the tour of Interxion's data centre confirmed the participants' need for information and an opportunity to exchange ideas about cloud computing. At the request of the German-Swiss Chamber of Commerce, this event was repeated successfully on 31 May 2012. To be continued Following on from the digital media, finance and cloud sector communities presented in this newsletter, we will continue our programme of Community Events in spring 2013. Whatever the specific requirements of individual communities, we look forward to getting to know them, measuring ourselves against them and growing with them.

16 Logistics in Switzerland Costumer Case Study: Schenker Schweiz AG

The logistics sector in Switzerland is growing and enhancing its position as a key function for the economy and the labour market. A 2012 survey of the logistics market, conducted by the University of St. Gallen and GS1, confirms this: with a monetary market volume of 35.9 billion Swiss francs, a new record was set in 2010. For industry and commerce, logistics is both a cost factor and a competitive factor. It has evolved from a transportationtransshipment-storage function into a growing industry made up of increasingly tailored and complex services. To an increasing extent, this also includes IT services. Among other things, they enable customers to order shipments electronically and to subsequently track them on their route around the world. In many cases, business and product-related information – not just transport-relevant data – is also exchanged for individual connections. Data security and reliability is therefore very important with regard to this sensitive information, which is why Schenker Schweiz AG makes it its number

one priority. The logistics company has placed its trust in one of the market leaders in IT security: Interlexion. DB Schenker – global logistics expertise DB Schenker offers integrated logistics solutions of the highest standard for land, sea and air. With approximately 2,000 locations in around 130 countries, the company has a strong presence in all important economic regions. By placing customer service, quality and sustainability at the centre of their work, the approximately 94,000 employees play a key role in DB Schenker's success and have helped make it one of the world's largest logistics companies. Schenker Schweiz AG is a Swiss subsidiary of DB Schenker Logistics. With more than 500 employees in 11 locations, it is one of the leading providers of logistics services in Switzerland. Optimising IT processes – boosting efficiency Schenker Schweiz AG offers integrated logistics concepts for the comprehensive operation of logistics chains and

globalisation of the flows of goods. This is made possible by a reliable exchange of information in real time, from order management and consignment tracking, to storage and procurement logistics, through to the latest logistics trends such as RFID and GPS. A constant and, above all, secure flow of data is an essential component of this. IT security and data protection – corporate policy and quality feature At DB Schenker, data protection is seen as a customer-oriented quality feature, just like technological progress and service innovations. Personal and company data is, of course, protected at all times – even for customer connectivity to inhouse IT systems. For instance, Schenker Schweiz AG subjects its systems and data to efficient security measures that meet the latest requirements. State-of-the-art IT without compromise DB Schenker's modern IT strategy also includes outsourcing certain routine tasks, which allows the company to focus optimally on its core activities. For Schenker Schweiz AG, outsourcing means

simple-to-use communications technology and better possibilities for secure and flexible growth – without compromising on security, environmental friendliness, energy efficiency and convenience. Since 2007, Schenker Schweiz AG owns two data centres, which have been operated at Interxion since 2009. Colocation at Interxion in two different redundant data centres means a high level of availability (up to 99.999 percent) for DB Schenker, as well as qualified security personnel on site and six physical security levels which guarantee adherence to the most stringent data protection standards and regulations. Green logistics – green IT DB Schenker is on its way to becoming the world's leading provider of green logistics services. The company is improving the carbon footprint of its customers, as well as designing and optimising transport chains in terms of ecological aspects, not just financial considerations. The logistics network comprises all modes of transport – from rail, to truck, Interxion Newsletter

data centre services offered by Interxion have carried the climate neutral label from myclimate.

In this regard, green IT is becoming an ever stronger and increasingly important sales argument. Environmentally aware customers, not just those of DB Schenker, are explicitly demanding green IT and requesting corresponding programmes and certificates. Interxion runs its entire data centre in Zurich-Glattbrugg on electricity from renewable energy sources (naturemade basic). This has enabled Interxion to reduce its CO2 emissions from 3,000 to 170 tonnes per year (2011). It is also the first data centre in Switzerland to compensate 100 percent of its CO2 emissions. This has been achieved by entering into a comprehensive partnership with the Swiss non-profit organisation myclimate to neutralise its own CO2 emissions in Switzerland. Since 1 January 2011, all
