“Purchasers are attracted to the tranquil open spaces of Regent ’s Park,” says Zach Madison from Savills St John’s Wood and Regent ’s Park offices. “The area offers 487 acres of royal parkland and gardens along with good schools, restaurants and connectivity to the city - the lifestyle here is second to none,” he continues.

Charlie Gibson, Managing Director of Oliver Bernard Private shares his reasons as to why property investors love the vibrancy that surrounds this area. “It’s home to Lord’s Cricket Ground, the legendary Abbey Road and Regent’s Park itself. This exclusive area of London really comes alive in summer. Book your Test tickets, or make for the park’s open air theatre to get your entertainment as the sun comes down. On the north-west side of the park, opposite the US ambassador's London residence, Winfield House, you have the detached house overlooking the canal - these are the most sought-after with private driveways and large gardens.

“To the west of the park you have the likes of Hanover Terrace where inspirational characters such as Damian Hirst reside. With an essential requirement to house a full-size snooker table, you get the idea of the kind of rooms these terraces boast. On the east you have Cumberland Terrace with iconic columns and pillars replicating the architecture you find in Rome and at the southern-most point you will find York Terrace West and East; some of the finest lateral flats have been sold and bought here with as much as 14 windows overlooking the park on one floor.”

What then do we make of the prices here? Zach says, “Most buyers looking to invest in property in Regent's Park would need to spend upwards of £1 million, however most buyers purchasing an apartment in one of the terraces can expect to pay in the region of £3 to £8 million.

“Homes located on Chester Terrace - one of the most sought-after roads on the east side of the park - are typically more modern in style having been rebuilt after the war, and benefit from internal elevators. Properties here command upwards of £10 million, while houses on Hanover Terrace, all of which have their own private gardens, seek anything from £15 to £40 million. Values can exceed £60 million when it comes to some of the park’s most exclusive villas. Many of these sales are done discreetly and off-market.

“However, there is opportunity to be had in the park. Towards the end of 2022, a property in need of development came to the market for circa £550K. While incredibly rare, it shows the opportunities that are here.”

“Those seeking peace and some time spent in nature will find it in Queen Mary’s Gardens – world-famous for having London’s largest collection of roses,” says Charlie. “Away from the park, and perfect for a weekend browse, there’s also St John’s Wood High Street: be sure to grab a tray of sushi from Maido before. Along with luxury beauty (think FaceGym and Space NK) and fashion boutiques (Zadig & Voltaire and ba&sh), you’ll find ultra-chic homewares and the iconic Panzer’s Deli, selling all the artisanal treats. We love the Russian ice cream and New Zealand honey,” he continues.

A stroll through the labyrinth streets of Soho leads to an almost unassuming building. You’ll descend into the DC universe via a fake bookcase, down an illuminated spiral staircase, before arriving at the main dining hall called Pennyworth’s. Named after Alfred Pennyworth, a British special forces veteran turned butler, he is the most loyal friend and confidant of both Bruce Wayne and Batman.

The theatrical dining experience starts with ‘Scales of Justice’, which is seared Scottish scallops with sriracha butter and puffed rice, along with tiger’s milk ceviche and caviar. Far away from the hustle and bustle of the city, you can find the small family business Moorschmied, located in Lower Saxony in Germany. There, Damascus steel is enthusiastically forged by hand, from which precious one-of-a-kind knives are created in elaborate craftsmanship – as personal as a fingerprint!

The Moorschmied family has made it their business to produce German Damascus knives of the highest quality. Not only do their many years of experience and material expertise of each individual flow into these knives, but the structure of a purely family-run business means that new impulses are always being given to the ongoing development of the products, which are characterised

by youthful passion and a prudence that spans the generations.

Recently they created a pure and classy but not so classic and very limited steak knife, made of 320 layers of hand-forged Damascus steel with a remarkable hardness of 61 Rockwell. For this knife, the craftsmen combined this steel with high-quality stabilised local woods, for example a bog oak, which has almost 4000 years under its belt, and united this perfect combination with beautiful ornamental rivets.

It is just a pure example of the knives that are made in this forge. Of course, the blacksmiths are open to almost all wishes of their exclusive customers. This includes fancy damascus patterns and even handle materials like mammoth ivory – whatever the customer wants they can certainly get.

A sub-penthouse bachelor apartment designed by Cigal Kaplan Interiors

igal Kaplan Interiors were absolutely delighted when they were appointed to design this newly built apartment. The brief was to create a contemporary space, with an emphasis on functionality. The client has a mixture of eclectic tastes and interests, and Cigal Kaplan were keen to show this off within his home.

The company agreed the property’s main selling point is its gorgeous view, overlooking Central London, so they really wanted the space to be both personal while emphasising the beauty of the surroundings.

Cigal Kaplan worked to this brief and prioritised each room’s design with its intended purpose. For example, they knew that the living room would be the ‘relaxation area’ so they created a neutral colour scheme and injected other hues with items like the client’s vinyl, artwork and books - these kept the interior relaxed and personal.

As the client is an avid cyclist, he wanted Cigal Kaplan to incorporate an indoor cycle training space. The challenges with this sort of very ‘practical’ room is that they are often tough to decorate beautifully, however the company decided that using wooden slats as a storage unit and decorative piece was an on trend, inexpensive yet modern idea. This added a wonderful amount of texture in the space and highlighted the client’s personality, allowing him easy access to some of his most prized possessions – his bikes!

his property is a new build located in Hampstead, North London, very close to Hampstead Heath. Architect Chris Snow was appointed by the client to design a new home on the existing site to cater to the needs of the family which includes multiple generations living together. Sarah Ellison, founder of Frank and Faber was hired to add a magical touch to the interiors.

The property is unique in many ways. With a Neo-Georgian exterior constructed in line with the regulations of the borough, the interior is surprisingly contemporary in style. There are eight bedrooms in total, occupied by two brothers and their families as well as their parents, all of whom divide their time between Nairobi and London.

The clients were very keen to have a home that, whilst very much oriented in its geographical setting, reflected their international heritage and lifestyle. They are passionate about history and wanted their home to be filled with artefacts that they own.

The interiors reflected the architectural mix of classic and contemporary. Elements such as marble, timber and stone were used to make discreet full-height pocket doors and joinery. The use of natural materials for the furniture and lighting brought an innate warmth and sense of wellbeing. Softness was achieved by consistent use of elegant window drapes.

Inspired by the surrounding gardens and neighbouring Hampstead Heath, a range of fabrics which mixed patterns and textures were introduced inspired by the client’s British, Indian and African heritage.

Free-standing furniture and accessories blended bespoke designs with contemporary, vintage and antiques, sourced from a range of international suppliers which were selected for their provenance, and connection to our clients (as well as aesthetics).

There was immense attention to detail visible from the macro to micro. From the hand-selected marble slab adorning the bathrooms to the beautiful bespoke shelving unit which Frank and Faber designed as a multi-functional storage/partition solution, bespoke rugs and lighting, right down the hand-carved headrest from north-west Kenya.

Light and airy

G Studio was appointed to reconfigure and refurbish a tired three-bedroom purpose-built apartment in the leafy suburbs of Hampstead in North London. TG Studio started the project by stripping the apartment back to its concrete base and reconfiguring the layout to cater for the client’s needs.

The retired owners live between London and Tel Aviv and wanted a more spacious pied-à-terre where they could truly enjoy London metropolitan life and catch up with their London family in a light airy and spacious accommodation.

The clients wanted a more modern design with minimal detailing and clear lines while incorporating some of their existing furniture. A palette of cream with hints of colour was also requested. TG Studios’ full interior architecture and interior design skills and experience were used to open up the apartment to create one very large open plan living, dining and kitchen area which now oversees the rear communal gardens with light pouring in from three sets of French doors.

As you enter the apartment the newly formed entrance hall is flooded with natural light through four black Crittal-style doors, separating but still linking to the now full width open plan living room and dining room. What was a dark uninviting entrance is now light and open and leads you straight into the open plan living area.

The living, dining and kitchen room were created by removing internal stone walls and connecting the three rooms to make a 16m-long space. The ceiling height was increased and pushed up as high as possible exposing the structural concrete beam with only the perimeter lowered to allow for cabling and recessed lighting. The clients were thrilled with the end result and the apartment now really works for them.

ABSOLUTE REALITY

The art of Joan Miró (1893-1983) has lost none of its seductive and enigmatic appeal. As an artist who saw in the modern world and the first avant-garde movements, Miró hovered in the Surrealist milieu, joining the group in 1924, and was fascinated by mysticism, visions and dreams as were other members of the group. This latest exhibition at the Guggenheim Bilbao explores the years between 1920 – when he took his first trip to Paris – to the end of the Second War. Unlike many of the Surrealists, he became politically engaged as a result of the Spanish Civil War and the lead up to Hitler's invasion of Poland as works shown here reference.

In numerous interviews from the 1930s onwards, Miró expressed contempt for conventional painting and declared an "assassination of painting" but in light of subsequent developments in contemporary art, his works appear rather conventional today – and far from assassinations.

In the period covered by this show Miro moved away from his explorations of magic realism and developed his characteristic iconography - floating signs on abstract or ambiguous backgrounds. Prehistoric art, including rock paintings, petroglyphs and statuettes, held a particular attraction for Miró, who proposed returning to the dawn of art in order to retrieve its original spiritual sense.

orks by the Alice Neel (1900-1984) have been popping up in UK exhibitions for decades but this is the largest show to date devoted to this vibrant American painter.

Neel is particularly noted for vivid portraits that capture the faces of 20th century America.

Describing herself as "a collector of souls", Neel worked in New York at a time when figurative painting was deeply unfashionable. The first ever solo show dedicated to the Indian artist Sayed Haider Raza (1922-2016) has opened in France at the Centre Pompidou.

Following his early training in India, Raza lived and worked, mainly in Paris, from 1950 to 2011. The 100 paintings on show exemplify the challenges of the transcultural dynamics in 20th century art.

Raza was trained in Mumbai, where the first modern art galleries began to open in the 1940s. It was an effervescent artistic and political climate leading up to the events of 1947 and Partition.

The training Raza received at art school focussed on classical Indian art but in 1947 Raza became a founding member of the Progressive Artists Group, a collective of cosmopolitan artists determined to invent and showcase new forms of expression. After moving to Paris in 1950, Raza

The Barbican's exhibition, organised in collaboration with the Centre Pompidou, Paris, brings together over 70 of Neel’s most vibrant portraits, shown alongside archival photography and film, bringing to life what she called "the swirl of the era".

Works by painter Anthony Cudahy now on show in France reference a wide variety of sources from masterpieces of European art and gay iconography to family narratives.

This is the Brooklyn-based painter's first exhibition in a French institution, with 20 recent paintings being shown in dialogue with a range of anonymous works from the museum’s archives, in the words of the curator "breathing life into works rarely taken out of storage."

Part of Cudahy's process is to research and create an archive of reference images which he then re-visits and re-imagines – creating multiple interpretations from a single image.

"I have a great love for the images, whether from my family archive, the internet, other painter's paintings, or queer archives," he says. "Painting in multiples helps me to understand that you don't have to do everything in one painting. I feel more free to try out a colour or painthandling idea when I know it's not my only go at the image."

developed an expressive style of landscape painting reminiscent of Bernard Buffet, Van Gogh and Gauguin. The decades between 1880 and the outbreak of the First World War in 1914 were a complex, vibrant period of artistic questioning, searching, risk-taking and innovation. This latest major exhibition at the National Gallery celebrates the achievements of three giants of the era: Paul Cézanne, Vincent van Gogh and Paul Gauguin and follows the influences they had on wider circles of artists across Europe.

With over a hundred works by artists ranging from Klimt and Kokoschka, Matisse and Picasso to Mondrian and Kandinsky complemented by a selection of sculpture by artists including Rodin and Camille Claudel, the exhibition follows the creation of a new, modern art, free of convention, taking in Expressionism, Cubism and Abstraction.

The exhibition includes some of the most iconic works of art created during these decades.

he works of the Dutch painter Piet Mondrian are unmistakablenotwithstanding the fact that one has been hung upside down in various museums for 75 years! In later life Mondrian seemed to have become stuck in the grid world he created and his early works give little clue to the direction he was to take. The new show at Tate Britain is a unique chance to see Mondrian in a new light while discovering the visionary work of Swedish painter Hilma af Klint.

Af Klint invented her own language of abstract art rooted in nature – and so the curators argue did Mondrian. "At the heart of both of their artistic journeys they shared a desire to understand the forces behind life on earth."

Featuring around 250 works, including paintings, drawings and archival materials, the show will reveal how their art reflected radical new ideas, theories and scientific discoveries in an era of rapid social change.

he 32nd Tour Auto will take place on the French Riviera in the city of Cannes from 17-22 April, 2023. The festivities will start with the traditional exhibition day at the Grand Palais Ephémère in Paris. Competitors will drive along a route of about 2,000 km through the most beautiful roads of France to reach Cannes via Beaune, Clermont-Ferrand, Valence and circuit Paul Ricard. On the circuit side, the drivers will compete on Dijon-Prenois, Bresse, Charade and Paul Ricard layouts, not to mention the 10 special stages on closed roads which will not be unveiled until the day before. The Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte has been chosen as the official rally start.

Lobanov projected Star as a 133-metre-long vessel that would tower above the waterline by almost 60-metres with a symmetric fore and aft double-ended hull. Inside, this superyacht will include 3,500m2 of space and a total volume of 9,000 gross tons. It would have eight massive decks, connected by no less than four elevators – one of which would go to the top and then underwater, where a submarine viewing deck would be.

Lobanov also planned that the Star would be powered by no less than eight MTU 16V 4000 m33f generators and two azimuth

thrusters. A dynamic positioning system would rotate Star within her own length throughout the day, meaning guests would compensate for the lack of massive exposed sundecks by getting direct sunlight whenever they wanted.

Accommodation on board would be possible for 36 guests and staff, or for gatherings of over 200 people. And, while it looks like Star is almost barren in terms of amenities, as compared to other superyachts, it’s not so: it would come with its own helipad, and a unique viewing platform at the top of the tip. This is in addition to the submarine viewing deck.

Zero emissions

After the world premiere of his award-winning CLX96 design (exterior and interior) at FLIBS 2022, international designer Jozeph Forakis presents the visionary Pegasus envisioned for introduction in 2030.

The futuristic yacht was conceived on a beach in Koufonissi island, Greece. “I was inspired to create a yacht as close to the sea and nature as possible, made of clouds floating above the waterline,” Forakis says, “I wanted to honour nature by blending into it, becoming virtually invisible.”

This desire for “invisibility” drove Forakis to develop a true zero emissions yacht that is “invisible both in design and in her environmental impact,” says the designer.

The 88m superyacht’s construction uses robotic 3D printing to create a mesh framework integrating both hull and superstructure. The result is an extraordinarily strong and lightweight structure that can be produced using less energy, material, waste, space, and time compared to conventional construction.

The unique exterior design starts with a low, linear hull with a plumb bow and silvery metallic finish, which blends chameleon-like with the water’s colours and movements. This foundation at the waterline supports the superstructure with multi-tiered, ephemeral glass wings that reflect the clouds and the sky.

Like a shape-shifting vessel from the future, the elegant, lattice framework of her 3D-printed structure becomes visible through the reflective glass at certain angles and lighting conditions. The dramatic triangulated structure allows light to penetrate all levels of the interior while framing the remarkable views in all directions.

The Centre of Doha Beautification project is about re-establishing streets as experiential public spaces in the most critical areas within the centre of Doha, creating positive and memorable experiences.

The design aims to bring a coherent character and identity to the city centre that links important landmarks as well as creating a unique urban experience for city dwellers. Several strategies are used to accomplish this starting with creating a new transportation masterplan that will de-load the current road network and encourage visitors and occupants to use public transport or walk to their destinations.

The scheme identifies nodal areas where there could be additional points of attraction whether new micro parks or locations for public gathering and enjoyment such as cafes.

The Corniche Beautification Project is the main artery that connects Hamad Airport to the city of

Doha. Many of the country’s major cultural and government structures overlook the Corniche such as the Museum of Islamic Art and the Qatar National Museum.

The Corniche and its surroundings are considered the main area for cultural and national events. The development consists of two major elements including the introduction of a cycleway link that would connect the airport road cycleway to the proposed cycleway in West Bay North. Secondly, the introduction of pedestrian underpasses and sunken plazas that will cross the Corniche Road linking the seaside to the city side.

The underpasses are strategically placed to connect and activate major destinations and hubs such as the Doha Metro and the Al Bidda Park underground carparks. A fusion of architecture and design, both beautification projects will create one-of-a-kind experiences

The second is the western area of Marbella - here the properties in Puerto Banus and Nueva Andalucía stand out, and thirdly, the properties that extend towards the mountains of Marbella in the municipality of Benahavís. Here you’ll find important luxury urbanisations around the exclusive Villa Padierna Hotel, such as Los Flamingos and La Zagaleta.”

The budget required to purchase a luxury property in Spain can vary widely depending on a number of factors, including location, size, and amenities. “To buy a nice cosy property you need around 500,000 euros, but luxury properties in Madrid, Marbella can reach up to 5 million euros, and in Mallorca, up to 10 million euros,” says Constanza. “Regarding rentals, a good apartment can be rented for around 2,000 to 10,000 euros for a sumptuous property,” she continues.

There are a number of requirements for foreigners purchasing property in Spain, Constanza details… “It will always depend on the customers wishes and interest but as a foreigner mortgage can only be of up to 60 percent of the total amount of the property value and they'll need to have de NIE (national document) and a bank account in Spain. Real estate agencies charge around 5 percent of the price and there are taxes of around 10-15 percent of the property price.

“In relation to rentals, it is common for clients to pay for the real estate agency commission and it is compulsory to have at least one extra monthly instalment deposited although owners usually ask for an extra monthly instalment as a guarantee when returning the property, to make sure it is given back in the same conditions as received. All types of rentals have specific regulations and requirements but are easy and do not require big administrative processes although it is easier when a real estate agency expert helps with the contracts and requirements. ”

The intention of iDisegno is the enthusiasm to create, and to constantly explore the possibility of design. The Designer Wei-Ting Hsu loves to study the collocation of materials, with a focus on colours. She uses this interest as her motivation for design – there is no shortage of new ideas. She learns about the different tastes of each home owner, including geometric aesthetics, European and American classical lines, modern craftsmanship, wood textures, among many other things. She believes you can develop a space’s appearance with personal characteristics.

The company, ozi design works, provides facility branding through commercial space design for a wide range of business categories and scales, from large domestic and international commercial facilities to small stores. In recent years, we have received a certain amount of recognition, including awards in Japan and abroad, with some 500 projects in medical facilities.
