lexander Wong, founder and CEO of Alexander Wong Architects, is a name that stands out for his innovation and imaginative design in Asia’s architecture and interior design scene.
Born in Hong Kong, Alexander pursued his education in the UK and the US, where he cultivated his passion for architecture and design. Alexander’s journey has been marked by notable achievements, particularly in the competitive world of design awards. His firm has gained international recognition, collecting prestigious accolades such as Asia’s Most Influential Designer Award (AMIDA) in 2022. In 2024, Alexander Wong Architects made history by winning the World’s Best Interior Design Award at the International Property Awards, and the only architectural firm that has won World’s Best 3 times between 2016 and 2024 so far. For Alexander, while these honours are gratifying, it is the design process itself that he cherishes the most – a lifelong journey of evolution filled with ongoing learning and personal growth.
In discussing his approach to design, Alexander emphasises a unique interpretation of the popular DEI (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion) framework. For

his studio, DEI signifies “Diversity” in exploring a wide range of design projects, from hotels and offices to luxury homes and large-scale architectural works. “E” stands for “Exceptional Focus,” reflecting the attention his team gives to every detail, especially as they rethink workspaces in the post-COVID era. Lastly, “I” represents “Innovation,” the constant pursuit of new aesthetics that merge functionality with cutting-edge technology and cultural diversity.
Alexander’s innovative thinking extends into the practical challenges of design. For example, he describes the complexities of designing hotel banquet halls where usability, such as the need for moveable partitions, can limit creative freedom. His solution involves breaking traditional design conventions by incorporating spiralling diagonal ceiling designs, transforming static layouts into dynamic spaces. Such ingenuity sets his work apart, providing both aesthetic beauty and functionality.
Over the course of his career, Alexander has designed over 50 cinemas across 21
cities worldwide, creating more than 1.25 million sq. ft. of cinema space actually built. His company remains one of the most prolific cinema designers in the world. Looking ahead, Alexander hopes to expand his work into mixing leisure with retail, noting that malls may become even more central

BABYLON
A new collection
Arte’s new collection was inspired by cuneiform clay tablets. Cuneiform script was created by people carving and drawing in clay tablets and on rock walls, and it is this technique of sculpting in clay that serves as inspiration for the Babylon collection. You could easily call the designs works of art, featuring large clay tablets that are shaped by hand with extreme precision and then
translated into incredibly detailed creations that resemble plasterwork.
The first wallcovering design, “Terracotta,” uses a combination of light panels in tile form to create both a geometric and earthy pattern. The pronounced texture of the engravings gives the design a resemblance to decorative earthenware or ripples in the sand.
Next, the tile-shaped design “Medjoul” features a significant amount of texture, due to both the technique and the voluminous material used. The pattern is inspired by date palms, a plant commonly found throughout the Middle East.
The “Adobe” design plays with various types of texture, exploring both height and depth. Composed of irregular squares and triangles, it creates a playful, geometric, and intriguing effect. The name refers to adobe, the unbaked clay bricks that are dried in the sun.
The final design in the collection is named “Between Rivers”. This wallcovering presents a mythical scene set in the lush nature of Babylonia between the Tigris and the Euphrates rivers, in the region where arable and livestock farming first originated. The imaginative tableau depicts elephants, gazelles, date palms and the lasting remains of ancient Mesopotamian temples.

Turned to the sky, the lantern resembles an open shell and creates a soothing, atmospheric light. Wrapped in an organic silhouette and an intricate weave that comes in two colourways, this vibrantly textured lighting collection adds a unique ambiance to any setting.
Developed in Hamburg, SCOORA “unifies motifs found in nature and dramatic, gestural forms to create a splendid lighting experience,” explains co-founder Birgit Hoffmann.
