eTwinning offers a platform for staff (teachers, head teachers, librarians, etc.), working in a school in one of the European countries involved, to communicate, collaborate, develop projects, share and, in short, feel and be part of the most exciting learning community in Europe. Page 2»

We are all potential refugees Project Description The refugee issue is more topical than ever. Our countries are very often refugee host country. Students listen to information about the issue in the news, but their knowledge is limited. The program aims to understand our students the importance of inter-acceptance between peoples and the need for solidarity and mutually supporting. Page 2,3»

What is e-Twinning?

The eTwinning action promotes school collaboration in Europe through the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) by providing support, tools and services for schools. The eTwinning Portal (www.etwinning.net) is the main meeting point and workspace for the action. Available in twenty-eight languages, the eTwinning Portal now has the involvement of nearly 371 597 members and over 44 449 projects* between two or more schools across Europe. The Portal provides online tools for teachers to find partners, set up projects, share ideas, exchange best practice and start working together, immediately using various customised tools available on the eTwinning platform. Launched in 2005 as the main action of the European Commission’s eLearning Programme, eTwinning has been firmly integrated in Erasmus+, the European programme for Education, Training, Youth and Sport, since 2014. Its Central Support Service is operated by European Schoolnet, an international partnership of 31 European Ministries of Education developing learning for schools, teachers and pupils across Europe. eTwinning is further supported at national level by 38 National Support Services. All people are residents of a large village called Earth Human Rights A book that seemed very useful was the Universal Declaration of Human Rights for children.

By reading and discussing on the occasion of the facts set out in it, the students began to understand that many human rights are violated. (Primary School of Thassos)

Our fellow man in need. Introduction to the concept of the word refugee Students started various activities related to the course of language. We inflected nouns (eg migrant, the refugee) verbs and verb phrases (eg migrate, I ask for asylum). We also created an on line dictionary. We wrote there words related to the program and explained their meaning. The students from the other countries had to translate all these things. They could add their own words or phrases. We also read some articles via internet by personal stories of several refugee. The students loved a story about a lady who brought her kitty and the children immediately said that it was a pet refugee. Students from Yaprakli middle school Cankiri/Turkey made a great presentation, in order to expain things about the refugee issue.(https://www.dailymotion.com/vi deo/x3u2icv_multeciler_news)

Refugees and feelings On the fourth month we talked about the feelings a refugee can experience. In this section we read a lot of different fairy tales. Through what the heroes had experienced we had great opportunities for discussion and reflection. We made a lot of book presentations. Also, we did various experiential activities. We impersonate refugees in various situations, trying to understand how they feel and think about whether we felt the same if we were in their position. We had a very touching the moment when we had to think something that we were forced to leave it behind.

Solidarity with Refugees The students of 5ND grade of the 5th primary school of Rhodes participate in action "Recycling Program School Bag". The action is to gather in school backpacks, school bags or other (in good condition), which will be offered to refugees helping them in their long and difficult journey of the Greek Islands to Europe. The educational objective of this initiative is to sensitize students about the constantly growing refugee problem and to mobilize them to actively assist the suffering of our fellow human beings. In addition, students realize the great value that can have the use of a recycled object. This year the old school bag, rather than thrown in the trash, can be particularly useful to people whose survival is dependent on our help.

Evaluation We are very proud of the program we implemented this school year. The kids loved it too. They participated in many experiential activities, created and built. They had the opportunity to present it to parents and teachers.

School Events The students of 2nd Primary School of Thassos participated in an awareness event held in Kavala. The aim of this two-day event was to gather essential items and toys for refugee children hosted in Kavala. The ultimate, however, the aim was to inform and raise awareness of the local community about the refugee issue. You can view activities here...http://2dimlimena.blogspot.gr/2016 /04/blog-post_16.html The 2nd primary school of Thassos built a board game to assess the knowledge acquired by the pupils throughout the program. Some of the questions that should be answered by the students were the following What is the capital of Turkey? What Turkey landmark know? What is the currency of Greece? When is the World day of refugees?
